#Altheya #altheyatde #my ocs #Ser Valerie #I’ve been trying to find a last name for her for the past week #And for me that’s usually just hearing or reading a word somewhere and going ‘could that be a last name?’#So this week I encountered the word ‘Florett’ which is the German word for a light rapier sword that’s called a ‘foil’ in english #English has the worst name for them #Because every other language used a variation of the French word fleuret #So it’s florett floreto fioretto etc in most languages #We don’t know yet what language or region Mark is going to base the Suncrest isles on but southern french spanish italian etc should be fin #I like that word but it sounds a bit clunky as a last name paired with her first name (Ser Valerie Fioretto? Too long)#So I’m still workshopping that #Her first name came very easily so of course her last name is more difficult to find :(#I chose Valerie because it’s valiant+flattery with a hint of Valkyrie and it has a latin/roman/italian origin #So a very good name for her!#Anyway wow cool drawing I like it a lot

Something I love about Yiddish is being able to pick out some word or phrase that's intelligible to me, which is cool considering I haven't touched german in over three years

#yiddish #funnily enough i am studying hebrew first and foremost but i've been listening to a lot of music in yiddish #i do still want to learn yiddish though because i'm under the impression that many american jews speak yiddish #apparently yiddish is a vulnerable language on the endangerment scale??? :/#also considering english is a germanic language it does make understanding yiddish a bit easier in some ways #but my brain kind of translates it from yiddish > german bits i understand/pick up on > english #maybe i should pick german back up because parts of my family are from germany (i'm like third or fourth gen?? i think???)#i said german because again my brain is weird about how it understands and self-translates languages i understand to any capacity

#yayo #i think i may make her an american student to match all the rest of the cast... :)#++ my explanation for why i write them little dialogues in english so far is theyre all immigrants or expats for whom french is a second or #third language so english ended up being their shared language #(klein speaks german english and french - xeres speaks tamazight arabic french and english - soona speaks arabic english and french)#in that order so both soona and klein spoke english before they did french and would have been more comfortable w it #at least when they first all met lol. so thats why they dont speak french among themselves!#i think kleins french is v good for professional reasons but he still prefers english #and possibly selected xeres as a roommate bc she was comfortable speaking english to him lol #maybe for yayo ill make it so that she has 1 french parent and was raised bilingual #so she moved to france for studying bc its cheaper #thatd make sense.. so theres my thoughts on my ocs today :)#ocs #xeres & co

You know what? I give up on this paper once and for all. I'm not even ashamed anymore

#okay I'm a little ashamed #it's another 5 points i have to catch up with next semester #but it's making me want to kill myself and i don't even know if the professor would still accept it #(the original deadline was in October. i got an official extension until November. i guess it'd be just rude #to ask if it was still okay to send it #especially since i haven't done any substantial work on it #it's just bad. i hate the topic. i hate the way the professor views the subject 'language and emotion'#so that i cannot write what i want but would have to tailor it towards her views because otherwise I'd fail #and also i cannot write in german. i simply can not do it. )#it's better to move on and focus on my last paper for last semester (official deadline is end of March #so I'm not behind for once)#and i should do the assignments for a module i should have finished 1 year ago #so i don't have to do that next semester #and i should start studying korean again so i don't make a complete fool of myself next semester #I have my first day of work in 2 weeks so I'll also have to focus on working (for money) from there on #I've been paralyzed by the thought of having to write this paper for way too long #the professor is not my boss anymore (i still have to work off some hours though) and even if she was #I'm so done being ashamed of myself for not being able to do certain things #i wanna give it my best from now on but not for this paper. it's done.#void screams

Been watching this woman teach Welsh in Spanish, and on the one hand, it’s super helpful for me to learn/improve both, but it also reminds me how woefully inept I am in Spanish and yet 5x as functional in it VS Welsh lmao I’m utterly doomed

Keine Ahnung, warum sie kein Gesundheit sagt, aber ich hab ihr schon mehrmals in der Vergangenheit gesagt, dass ich es schön fände wenn sie es sagt? Einmal hat sie die Ausrede rausgeholt, dass ich doch komisch niese und sie denkt, es wäre ein Husten (sie sagt es aber auch nicht wirklich zu anderen und andere haben kein Problem damit mein Niesen zu erkennen lmao ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Sie ist nicht wirklich sauer, wenn andere es sagen? Ich glaub, wenn andere es sagen fällt ihr nur auf, dass sie es selbst nicht macht und is deshalb eher mies gelaunt? Die Emotionen sind wahrscheinlich eher auf sie selbst gerichtet, weshalb sie mal ein bisschen davon angepisst war. Aber ich hab sie nie näher danach gefragt. Ich sage ihr lieber, dass ich es gerne hätte, wenn sie mir mal Gesundheit sagen würde, als das ich frage, ob sie tiefere Gründe dahinter hat, es nicht zu sagen :/ Man denkt, dass so ne kleine Nettigkeit nicht schwer wäre aber bleghhh scheint schon so zu sein?

SO fucked up that when u study languages they also make u study architecture history and ant biology and economy and european politics hierarchy so by the end of the semester i still cant tie a proper sentence in any language but sure i can differentiate the neo gothic style from rococo or tell you what a bull market is

#shut up dave #im tired im tired im tired i dont care abt any of this #i mean i do enjoy architecture and art periods. i dont want to be required to know all of them #i have an exam tomorrow and one on sunday and one on wednesday and one on next saturday #then on monday and tuesday and the following saturday and monday too #and frankly. im only confident i can pass 3 maybe 4 of them #for the rest??? idk ill need to study and im very bad at that #but hey we got the grades back from the first exam!! the one i took last week and i got a 9 yippeee #that is out of 10 #it was in german interpreting n like. genuinely. im good enough at consecutive interpreting that i dont think theres a way 4 me to fail #like even if i mess it up i cant do THAT bad #i had to do it 4 english today and i think i fucked up sooo big it was so embarrassing. but then we got to the critique of my performance #and. it was all the usual nitpicks? like few word choices #the occasional discordance with adjectival conjugation. few points that 'havent clearly come across'#in my mind i had missed like a whole half of the speech but apparently it was p good still #now the problem is. same prof who teaches that subject also teaches specialized languages #and im. very bad at that one for simple reason that i have not processed any information all year #um maybe next time dont make your class about the stock market? idk just a suggestion. i dont care for wallstreet or whatever.#tho to b fair i didnt care for the european parliament last year either so ig u just cant win me on those terms #but if we get to specializing on the judiciary field i think i wouldnt be able to keep ignoring it. because of the circumstances #i have two more shirt designs to finish before the month ends but as u can see school wants me dead at the same time #one of said designs is a full 7 character thing :/#and the other. well ive already made 3 thumbnails for it and nothing rly clicks the way i want it to
