We're Off to See the Wizard
Hey there, disqualifications. All right, I'm on the final thing in our stack! And we're gonna end the same way we started: with a FiM alt universe fic.
Here's the cover:
Tumblr media
Yeah, remember way back when we did "Little Fillies" #1? And I was wondering if they'd do other Classics Reimagined titles? Well, here's one for you! And at least this time, I'm roughly familiar with The Wizard of Oz. Like, I've never read the original books, but I've at least seen the 1939 film a couple times. I know the basic plot from parody and reference and pop culture. I know enough to know the ruby slippers are movie only, and they were silver in the book! Anyways, a pretty nice cover for this. Same artstyle as the "Little Fillies" story as well. This one might grab a few more eyes, at least~
I think we'll do the same thing I did in the Little Fillies review, where I name the character as the original work, then parenthetically refer to the MLP character playing them. So obviously, our depressed farmgirl is Dorothy Gale (Applejack). She lives with Uncle Henry (Big Macintosh) and Auntie Em (initially Rarity, but when she's way into playing Big Mac's wife, they swap her for Granny Smith. They also change the role from wife to mother). While they're making changes, Dorothy demands to be switched into overalls. So much for the iconic gingham~
So, before long, a tornado comes a-spinnin' into the story. Auntie Em! It's a twister! Starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton! She chases her dog, Toto (Winona), into the bedroom. This keeps her from enterting the storm cellar instead. And she's gonna wish she'd been in there, because the tornado doesn't just destroy the house, it lifts the whole thing spinning and spinning into another dimension! One with brighter colours! The main comic so far has been in muted, sepia-like colours (not outright monochrome), but springs to "full" colour at this point.
When everything's stopped spinning, Dorothy (just assume this is followed by "and Toto" every time, unless I specify) takes a peek out into this wide new world. She's greeted, not by munchkins, but by Breezies, which is one of the only times they've ever appeared in comics. They're super-enthused to meet a new princess, Dorothy having crushed the previous one. Dorothy tells them that both these facts are wrong, only to be swiftly corrected with the shot of Nightmare Moon's legs sticking out from under the house, silver horseshoes in the air.
Who should enter now but the Good Princess of the North (Celestia). Dorothy objects to the lazy find-replace of "witch" for "princess", but Glinda or Celestia or whoever plows on ahead anyway. She introduces the concepts of one princess per cardinal direction, two good and two wicked, and the Unicorn of Odd (title drop!) who might be even more powerful. Dorothy is about to make a feminist comment, but is interrupted by Nightmare Moon's dissolving. The silver horseshoes are now relinquished, and Celestia forces them on Dorothy to keep the plot moving.
This version does mention the Deadly Desert surrounding the Land of Odd on all sides, which is why she can't immediately go home to Kansas. It's a bit distressing, but Celestia suggests heading east to the Emerald City where the Unicorn lives. And of course, the easiest way to get there? Follow the yellow brick road, of course. The Breezies agree to accompany her to the edge of their territory, and to Dorothy's relief, only the book is in the public domain. Thus, they don't have the rights to use any of the songs~
Finally, just as Dorothy is beginning to tire of the fawning reverence of the Breezies, they reach the end of their lands and part ways. They soon come all up ons a cornfield, and Toto begins to bark. Dorothy's worried for a minute, but it turns out to be just a scarecrow. To her shock, though, the Scarecrow (Pinkie Pie) begins to talk. She's very glad to have somepony new to talk to, since it's all been birds before now. She's just terrible at scaring the crows, to her utter shame. She's just too good at making friends! See how she's made a new one just today~!
Dorothy uses her farm-found applebucking skills to knock the Scarecrow off her perch, freeing the straw-stuffed mare to move around and travel. And travel she does! She decides to accompany Dorothy on her journey, in the hopes of getting a brain from the Unicorn. She's happy enough with a head stuffed with straw, but what she really wants is to plan parties. Can't do that without a brain! And the comic ends as the pair set off, with Scarecrow also needing to be reminded they don't have the rights to the songs. But it's a comic book, so they won't be able to tell if she hums it instead~
Well, this seems like a lot of fun so far. Let's be honest, The Wizard of Oz is a lot more of an exciting and interesting story than Little Women. I'm sorry, but it's true. It'll appeal to your demographic a lot more, too. The roles seem pretty tailor-made for this, and Applejack is a natural snarker. So the asides and fourth wall breaks (there's a whole page of Celestia and Luna I left out to keep up the flow and to allow you to find the jokes on your own as you read) fit more naturally here. They got better at it here, with "Little Fillies" being their testing ground. I look forward to more of this, but alas, this is the only issue I have so far! Just like last time, we'll have to wait until I get a new shipment to finish the series~
Next week, though... Well, I have a few ideas I wanna explore. They'll tide us over in the meantime~

I'm so happy that I finally was able to do some interiors for MLP~
These are from My Little Pony: Classics Reimagined — THE ODYSSEY ~ There were several stories in here told by other ponies to Pinkie Odysseus and they're each illustrated by different artists!
I did the story of Celestia and Luna as Helios and Phaethon, told by Persephone Fluttershy, which was an honor!
Here's all my pages — Lettering by Johanna Nattalie!

My Little Women ...Would Be Kind of a Creepy Title, Actually
Hey there, winking emojis. Well, we finished another third of Avengers Arena, and we need a break, yeah? Something light and fun. Now, I did finish all the G5 pony comics I had in the backlog last time... But note that one bit: the G5 comics. I got a little something else for you today~
Here's the cover
Tumblr media
So this is My Little Pony Classics Reimagined - Little Fillies. Dunno if there are or will be more in the Classics Reimagined line, but here's the first. It's all the MLP characters you know and love, but it's plugged into Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women". If you haven't read "Little Women", don't worry, neither have I! It's still pretty entertaining, and you get a strong sense of the original story. You'll see. Either way, a fittingly simple, pleasant cover for such a story. Dunno what crowd the Little Women fandom draws in for comics, but the Friendship is Magic cast is sure to pull in a few readers~
Now, just for clarity, I will be referring to the characters by the names of the roles they're playing. I will, of course, indicate who's played by who each time they're introduced, but otherwise when I say "Meg", you're gonna have to remember it's our favourite purple book horse. Speaking of, we open at the March house, where Meg (Twilight Sparkle) is finishing up here contribution to their family newspaper. Beth (Fluttershy) compliments her on the story's moral, while Jo (Rainbow Dash) scoffs at it. She doesn't have time for moral lessons. Yup, that's Rainbow Dash~
After a side comment from Amy (Rarity), Jo shares her own story: a frolicking adventure story starring a pony named Rainbow Dash collecting artifacts and fighting thieves. Beth interrupts her, unsure whether they've already heard this story or not. Meg agrees, eventually realising it sounds a lot like AK Yearling's Daring Do books. Amy agrees that it seems derivative, and is also miffed that Jo gets to copy for her articles and she isn't. Jo's pretty mad at the insinuations. But it's hard to write adventure stories when you haven't had any yourself...
Her sisters sympathise, but even everyday life is a kind of adventure. Besides, it's Hearth's Warming Eve, and who can be sad then? Even if their bits are going somewhere other than presents, perhaps. Their father (Cheese Sandwich) is off fighting in the war, so money is tight. They muse a bit about what they would've liked to receive, and when Jo mentions she'd like the newest AK Yearling book, Meg is surprised she hasn't bought it yet. She probably would have, but Aunt March (Discord) hasn't paid her yet. Once she does, though, Beth suggests they pool their money for a gift for their mother, Marmee (Pinkie Pie).
And here's where some of the humour of the adaptation comes in. Up 'til now, it's been a fairly straight adaptation (I assume, anyway). But upon mention of her character's name, Pinkie pirouettes in and flops on the floor. Twilight protests that this can't possibly be her entrance, and Pinkie points it out in the script. The script in her hoofwriting. Pinkie's retort? Are they adapting a literary classic? Yes. Does that mean she can't add cartwheels if she wants? No. Rarity then pipes up with some regard to wardrobe, and Twilight shouts for focus.
Totally focused, Marmee pulls out a letter from their father and reads it out loud. The key part, though, is the ending which goes something like "adventures are well and good, but don't seek them so strongly you miss what's right in front of you now". This is clearly directed at Jo. In the days that follow, she tries to take it to heart, attempting to write something not so Daring Do derivative, but comes up with nothing. Meg interrupts her nothings to remind her they've been invited to a fancy New Year's party. Jo accidentally butchers Meg's hair while they're dressing, but they make it there.
While Meg fawns over the high class guests, Jo wanders off to stew. While she's moping, a butler (Discord again, in another role) suggests she try stage left. Someone has to keep the narrative pace going, right? Jo ducks into a little room where she can escape the party for a bit, and it's here where she meets Theodora "Laurie" Laurence (Applejack), their next door neighbour. Oh boy, this is gonna be some Appledash shipping, isn't it? Coz the surprise and explanation for Laurie's nickname preferences works better in the original book, where the Laurie character was a boy.
Anyway, Jo wonders why they haven't hung out before, being next door neighbours and all. Laurie's just been busy with school and stuff. She's been all over, and Jo is swooning a bit at the thought of all that adventure. She's jealous, coz there's not too much to write about in Broncord, Massahoofsetts. Laurie is pretty intrigued, even if Jo isn't officially published yet. She asks Jo for a story right now, and she obliges. She gets a little stuck in the middle, and Laurie suggests Jo stop thinking like AK Yearling and tell what she wants in the story.
Alas, while Jo catches a second wind spinning a yarn about her self-insert OC Rainbow Dash (now there's some confusing canon mapping for you~), she's just getting into it when Meg appears, rather disheveled and ready to go home. She got too involved in a competition with the Great and Powerful Trixie (who I guess doesn't get a canon character to play), and she would like to go home now.
Jo and Laurie walk home together, and the pair part amicably. Laurie muses that while it might not be as exciting as a Daring Do adventure, but the story of how they met might be worth writing about too. Jo supposes that's true, and the comic ends with her heading inside to recount Rainbow Dash's latest adventures to Beth and Amy (who didn't get to come, I guess)~
This is pretty all right. Like I said, I’ve never read ”Little Women” myself, not even for school, but there’s enough both in the story and the meta asides that I’ve gotten the gist of it. Speaking of, it’s those meta asides I like the most. A straight adaptation wouldn’t be quite as fun, I don’t think. It does make you wonder if they’re putting it on as a play or something, or if they simply know they’re in a comic adaptation. Either way, this certainly isn’t a bad story, I mean, it’s a classic for a reason, right~?

My Little Pony Classics Reimagined The Odyssey
Tumblr media
5/5
This post is for fan entertainment, I am not being paid.
Hi everyone,
I would have never thought that I would pick up  a non-detective My Little Pony comic but I love reading about The Odyssey I love reading about Greek myths and having a My Little Pony version of the Odyssey was interesting. I will tell you that I was worried that since the main character of this comic was Pinkie Pie I was worried that it would go off the rails (not that it’s a bad thing) Pinkie was a prefect fit to play the lead for this story.
Story time
Our story begins on Sugar Cube Island where chefs from around Greece has come to get their hoofs/claws on The World’s Most Prefect-est Cupcake. (I kid you not that is the treasure’s name, I love cupcakes, and it makes sense for Pinkie that would be the important thing she leaves behind).
Pinkie left the island to participate in the Great Trojan Baking Competition and has been gone for 10 years and everyone thinks she is not coming back so the cupcake is up for grabs. So, the chefs are now putting pressure on Mrs. Cake to pick a chef that gets the cupcake, which Mrs. Cake tries and stalls.
Now Pinkie is on her ship in the middle of the ocean, she befriends a bird, and she names him Homer. She laments to Homer that she is trying to get home to the World’s Most Prefect-est Cupcake. But Pinkie got lost on her way home. Pinkie and Homer come across an island Pinkie runs into a green pony who lives on the island who doesn’t introduce his name too.
But the green pony introduces Pinkie to lotus macaron, and tries to get her to eat it but Pinkie evades but the green pony starts telling the story of Atalanta.
Ok this is what I really like about comic, not only its retelling of a famous Greek story, but the famous ponies play roles of famous Greek heroes.
So, Atalanta is played by Rainbow Dash, the fast racer around. Atalanta’s dad is worried that she doesn’t have any friends (this is much like the episode where Rainbow gets Tank her pet) he gets the idea the only one who could Atalanta is the one who can be her friend, so he sets up a race. Which Atalanta wins every time until she goes up against Hippomenes (who is Spitfire).
However, Hippomenes before the contest meets with Aphrodite (who Applejack plays). Aphrodite gives Hippomenes an golden apple, which during the race Hippomenes throws to distract Atalanta and Hippomenes wins the race.
Pinkie makes the connection after talking to the green pony that the macrons are making them forgetful, she throws her away which makes the ponies of the island unhappy and chase her off the island.
So, after drifting for a while at sea she comes across another island. This island has a lot of pigs on it. Who do we meet on the island, Circe (who Zacora is playing). Pinkie starts boasting about her cupcake to which Circe asks how she knows it’s the best cupcake.
Now Circe starts telling the story of Arachne.
Arachne (who is played by Rarity) is the best seamstress around no one could compare and that made her a bit arrogant. One day a traveler had asked Arachne if she is the famous weaver that everyone talks about.
Which Arachne agrees and starts boasting she is even better than Athena (who Twilight is playing), which to no surprise the traveler was Athena in disguise. So, Athena challenges Arachne to a weaving contest to see who the better weaver is. Athena admits that Arachne is the better weaver, but instead of being modest Arachne starts boasting which results Athena turning Arachne into a spider.
After some more talking Pinkie (with the help of the pigs) discovers what Circe was doing and makes a run for it.
Somehow Pinkie gets to the underworld, and she meets Hades (who Discord is playing) and he gives Pinkie a map back home, which Pinkie is having a hard time picking the right route. This is where she meets the Queen of the Underworld Persephone (who yes is played by Fluttershy).
Persephone helps Pinkie with a story, the story of Helios and Phaethon (who is played by Celestia and Luna) and it doesn’t follow like in the main series, that Helios loved for her hard work pulling the sun across the sky. While Phaethon grows jealous and wants to do it too. Helios tells her it’s not as easy as it looks, but Phaethon doesn’t believe her.
So, on the day of Phaethon birthday she is granted one wish by Helios, which is her chance to pull the sun across the sky and get the love that she saw Helios receive.
Helios agrees and tells her she has to pull the sun just right or the world won’t get the sun they need. Unfortunately, Phaethon can’t control the sun, so some areas got too much sun and other didn’t get enough, and she crashes. With some heart-to-heart Phaethon got her own thing to pull across the sky: the moon.
After some comedic back and forth with Persephone and a chase scene Pinkie makes it home to Sugar Cube Island only to find out that Mrs. Cake had to break under pressure and is holding the contest for the cupcake. Which breaks Pinkie sprinkle cover heart.
Maud Pie makes an appearance and tells Pinkie the story of Eros and Psyche (Big Mac is playing Eros while Sugar Belle is playing Psyche).  Psyche is married to monster, but he is really kind to her, his one rule is that she is never look at his face, well one not when Eros was sleeping Psyche looked and he had to leave. So, Psyche went on a quest and even asked Aphrodite for help. Aphrodite sets her task that she has to complete (which looks like farm chores for Sweet Apple Acres). In the end Eros and Psyche got back together and lived happily ever after.
Which gives Pinkie the idea that she will compete to save her beloved cupcake. So, she disguises herself as a pony named Fiery. Long story short, she wins the contest only for Homer to steal the cupcake.
I love this comic. The number of jokes are too funny, I found a Monty Python and the Holy Grail joke, the Fiery reference which was a play on Guy Feir and Pinkie mentions that she got a hoof shake from Palomino Fillywood (love the Paul Hollywood ref.) and even the Great Trojan Baking Competition is a pun too.
This is one of the most interesting comics I have picked up, and I found out that there is going to be another issue The Unicorn of Odd, natural this is the Wizard of Oz. Applejack is playing Dorthy and Winoea is playing Toto, Pinkie is playing Scarecrow, Rarity is the Tin Man, and Fluttershy is the Cowardly Lion.
This series has got a fan, and I can’t wait to collect them, I hope they do a Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot or even Sam Spade.

New My Little Pony Classics Reimagined--Little Fillies Book available here: https://amzn.to/4cWPnr7
Details below:
Little Women meets My Little Pony in this new graphic novel interpretation of the literary classic about love, life, and sisterhood. Rainbow Dash, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, and Rarity appear as the March sisters, who harbor dreams of life beyond Broncord, Massahoofetts.
Rainbow Dash yearns for excitement—something to write about. So when Applejack, the Marches’ neighbor, arrives home with tales of eel wrangling and apple eating, Rainbow Dash and her sisters dare to hope for more. Soon, Twilight finds herself in conflict with high-society mage Trixie, Fluttershy contracts a nasty case of Pony Pox, and Rarity and Rainbow Dash are fighting about, well, everything. Through difficult times and surprising challenges, the fillies work together to be better sisters and friends. Little Fillies captures a message that is as central to My Little Pony as it is to Louisa May Alcott’s timeless novel: Nothing is more important than family.
