Hello, Prosecutor van Zieks! I have an interest in identifying dog breeds and I was wondering what breed Balmung is! Just a larger-than-average greyhound? Is he part Great Dane, or Irish Wolfhound?

Balmung is a purebred Sloughi, actually. His breeder is from Spanish Morocco, and arrived in England as a refugee with her four dogs and younger sister. I heard them barking one day at the market, and as the barking did not sound like any breed of dog I knew, I found myself too intrigued to do anything but investigate the matter.

My parents primarily kept Great Danes as part of the staff, but I fell in love with Madame Kashif's dogs on sight. I introduced myself, and she introduced herself in turn, and I cajoled my father into inviting her to a hunt on the family forest grounds, as a welcoming to England. I admit, I wanted to see what they were capable of.

When one of her dogs had puppies, while my mother was heavily pregnant with my youngest brother, I bought the whole litter. My father decreed to me that I would be responsible for the whole of their care, as the price of my admittedly-rash decision to take them all home. Moriarty did not care for my pack of dogs, but I loved them all.

Balmung remains with me even now, although sometimes I do still hear his littermates barking in the distance. I do wonder where the rest of them ran off to...?

♡ HAPPY HYUNGWON DAY ♡ wishing the happiest of birthdays to hyungwon, who is still mid-comeback week and likely will have! very little time to relax because of their whirlwind schedules! nonetheless i hope he snatches some moments to do what makes him happy, that he’s smiling all day, that the people around him make him feel extra special amidst all of the hustle and bustle. :’)

quick cc note: ah well we all know how this goes right!! i don’t know how obvious this is, but for as quickly as kihyun cemented his status as a resident of my heart, hyungwon was barely a step behind. and like. i simply accepted it. i was like. ah yes. this makes sense. (it didn’t! he’s not my usual bias type at all. as opposed to minhyuk, who IS, and who i fought tooth and nail.) it was like. what. was i supposed to say NO to this silly lanky string bean of a man who is so endlessly graceful onstage and then. regularly falls over his own feet when he isn’t performing? absolutely irresistible imo.

[enter brief delusional paragraph im so sorry] ok. in the most normal way possible. if u were like. megan who in monsta x do u think you would Actually be good friends with. hyungwon is the obvious pick!! and the reason i think this is. a) infps tend to get along with other infps and i think our energies match well. b) i would go get seafood with him all the time so kihyun doesn’t have to. c) on a worldview level i am nearly perfectly aligned with minhyuk and as we know hyunghyuk are soulmates! in conclusion i just think. we would get along. in my mind hyungwon is my friend. let me have this!! okay. end delusions.

because it’s his birthday... and bc you all know it already, i’ll admit once again that hyungwon is my absolute favorite mx producer. (shh don’t tell the others!) the sheer DRAMA in most of his songs and the way he writes so compatibly with kihyun’s wheelhouse is so <3 to me...... but like. genuinely, every time i see his name in a song’s credits, i KNOW that it’s going to be one of my favorites on the album, no exceptions. (by the way, spotify code in the second panel is active and goes to a playlist of his songs! i’ll keep it current.) i love the progression of dj h.one (MY BELOVED) to producing songs for his group, and even outside of his group!

hyungwon i think more than any other member has really come into his own in the past year or two, and it’s like. really lovely to see. he has always been charming and handsome and he has always had a smile that could knock you right off guard, but lately he has been brimming with confidence! (which. i love.) it’s in the way he carries himself, the way he’s so much more sure-footed and is just comfortable in his skin. i really admire the way he’s so steady. i think his personality, while so incredibly endearing and often playful, is maybe less flashy than some others in the group, but he is still such a force to be reckoned with. i think often of that interview he did recently, where a fan talks about feeling like it’s too late to try learning new things, and he rebuts that notion firmly, talking about how he himself was a “late” bloomer in so many things in his life, but that there’s no such thing as TOO late, as long as there’s a willingness to learn. i’ve been carrying those words with me, have held them close and reminded myself of them whenever i’ve felt myself shying away from starting something for fear of not being good at it right away, for fear of being “behind” everyone else.

i’m really happy that he seems to finally be getting broader recognition. i know that he doesn’t need outside validation really, and that he’d be just as happy as long as the group was doing well, but he deserves the millions of views on his my alcohol diary episode, and he deserves that drama gig, and he deserves to be getting invited to luxury brand events left and right! he deserves the korean gp falling over themselves to talk about how handsome and kind and wonderful he is!!

i think 2023 is going to be his YEAR. he is riding momentum, he is catching fans left and right, he is, as i said, brimming with such energy and confidence and i cannot imagine a world in which that energy isn’t returned to him. i think so many more opportunities are going to come to him, and i’m looking forward to seeing what he chooses to do.

but career advancement aside, chae hyungwon i hope that you continue to love what you do, and that you get time to rest at some point, hopefully soon! i will always be rooting for you, i cannot wait to see what the future brings. at the end of the day i hope you are happy, i hope you are laughing and smiling more often than not, i hope that you get your introvert recharge time as needed, and most of all, i hope that your wishes, whatever they may be, come true all of this year and beyond.

Lotus Elan S3, 1966. The Elan was an era-defining car and was for Lotus, their first really commercially successful road car. It featured a steel backbone chassis with a fibreglass body and was powered by a DOHC 1,558 cc engine, with 4-wheel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering and 4-wheel independent suspension. Sales were boosted in the UK and internationally when the character Emma Peel (played by Diana Ring) drove one in 60’s TV series The Avengers. It provided the template for the Mazda MX-5 Miata. In 2004, Sports Car International placed the Elan number 6 in a list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s. 

PS: Diana Rigg had to learn to drive for the TV show, Lotus gave her the car when she left The Avengers, but she wasn't a keen driver and passed the Elan onto a friend. More recently Dame Diana played the role of Olenna Tyrell in Game of Thrones, she passed away in 2020, aged 82. R.I.P

heres part two of my 223 years of fashion series! we're well into the regency era now and we see what's mostly associated with this era: spencer jackets, neoclassical silhouettes, and lots of curls. you see more trim and design in this era, as well as a popularization of fur due to napoleonic spread in eastern europe. you'll also notice that a lot of things in this era are slowly getting wider and larger: sleeves, skirts, hats... the elegant simplicity of the regency starts to transition into early victorian shapes.

Hello!! A brief(ish) recap before the actual list. It’s been a pretty wild year in wingsland, mostly thanks to finishing up my second master’s degree in December (finally, BYE!). Looking back, I’m surprised at how much content I actually created, but this has been a refuge and source of comfort for me while running on fumes between work and school and general adulting. 2023 also marked some changes in my listening and sources of inspiration. I fell more out of interest with txt (apologies to all followers who were here for them… this is the second time this has happened, oops?) but fell even more in love with Monsta X while discovering some other new or new-to-me artists (more on that in another post). Reason was my first official comeback with them, and it really lit a fire in my brain. I have a few ongoing series that I intend to continue, whether they’re gifs or audio compilations. I giffed a LOT of besties (minhyuk + hyungwon, the soulmates of soulmate besties). It brings me so so much joy to work on those sets and the various audio edits or just being excited about musical details in my music box tag. I also managed to squeeze in a few angsty mv sets along the way, because tbh I feel like I am thriving most as a creator when something is pulling at the heartstrings. I know mbbblr has been quiet lately (and must seem exceedingly so to those who were around years ago), but I will keep being noisy about them until mx6 is reunited and beyond. Thank you for sticking around with me ♡

♡ HAPPY CHANGKYUN DAY ♡ happy happy birthday to monsta x’s forever maknae, who despite turning 27 years old and fully being an adult, is still undoubtedly regarded by his hyungs as not-quite-grown-up yet. wishing him a lovely day and an even lovelier year as he so very much deserves!!

quick cc note: hehe here we goooo! buckle in we’re in for a long ride etc. you’re all used to this by now! changkyun is so very dear to me in such a specific way where i can’t think about him for too long or i’m at risk of crying. you know? he occupies such a particular place within the group and in my heart.

i definitely don’t claim to know what’s going on behind the scenes or pretend to exactly understand anyone’s state of mind except my own... but doesn’t changkyun seem lighter these days? i think in general changkyun loves the stage and loves music, and you can always tell that. he’s always been happy when he’s out there under the stage lights all mic’d up. but this past promotional period he has seemed so relaxed and happy and comfortable like he has been GLOWING!! that impossibly charming silliness that sometimes shows itself has been spilling out of him!!! and it makes me so so happy because he deserves that! like doesn’t it do your heart good to see him thriving!!

i have such a soft spot for him for a myriad of reasons but one of them is that it’s because i know that so much of this job kind of goes. against his instincts?? alkf;alsk. changkyun is by nature, so reserved a lot of the time and a lot of an idol’s job requires you to have your on switch flipped at all times. he himself has talked about it, how it doesn’t seem like a job suited for him and yet... it IS his job and it DOES suit him. and in a lot of ways, i think how introverted he is helps at his job, in that he is able to expend his energy when needed and ride that high, and then knows how to regroup and recover within himself. he’s talked about the come down from the rush of being on stage and how it’s a peculiar and acute loneliness, and how actually, he doesn’t mind it. that it’s something that you need to feel.

changkyun is just so thoughtful and introspective. i think he’d be such a good conversation partner. from now on when people ask that icebreaker question that’s like. which three people dead or alive would you want to have dinner with... i’m naming changkyun as one of the answers. i really admire the way that he can sit with his emotions and acknowledge them, and at the same time, the way that he’s like. fake it til you make it!!! like. so true king. me too. sometimes you just have to keep telling yourself that you’re fine and you just keep saying it and keep saying it until it’s true.

he’s a bundle of contradictions. he gives off this cool and fierce image while being so, so sweet to the bone, the group’s resident romantic. he quietly watches his groups antics from the side except for when his goofy sense of humor bursts out of him. he cares fiercely, so fiercely about what his people think of him — and nothing at all for his naysayers’ words. he’s incredibly introverted but loves standing in front of the crowd under the spotlight. :):

i think all the time about how changkyun really maintains a strong sense of self in an industry where it can be really hard, really brutal to do so. here are the things that stand out to me, especially: he is considerate of others, and endlessly patient with those he cares about. (thinking of: him sleeping in his studio for kihyun’s solo debut to make sure he didn’t disturb the sparse amount of sleep kihyun was getting. the way he always indulges hyungwon when hyungwon asks him to check his eyes.) he was raised with an appreciation for music and art and it shows so clearly in his identity as an artist. and along with that, growing up in a few different countries when he was younger gave him maybe a more international mindset than he would have had otherwise. he is honest in his music. he knows his worth and will make the decision that’s best for him, even when those decisions may not come easily.

i’m so excited for the future for him. like changkyun, i also believe that good times and bad times must both exist, and that one will naturally follow the other. but i hope that for him the good times always last longer than the bad ones, and that inner light that’s been shining from him keeps on dazzling us all.

im changkyun!!! i admire who you choose to be every day!! i’m really proud of you and the way you’ve had your cake and eaten it too, leaving the company and staying committed to the group and the members you love so much. i can’t wait for your solo ventures to come, i can’t wait for the group activities to come, i just can’t wait to see what comes next. this year i hope you stay happy, stay smiling. i hope you keep on betting on yourself, because you will never, never lose when you do. with all the love and support, always. rooting for you, cheering for you. with you every step of the way.
