DANCE WITH MEEEEE 💃🕺💃🕺
~~lyrics below~~
I. Dá bhfaigheann mo rogha de thriúir acu, De thriúir acu, de thriúir acu, Dá bhfaigheann mo rogha de thriúir acu, Cé hé acu siud do b' fhearr liom?
Ó mo mhíle gille thú, Grá mo chroí is fiche tú Ó mo mhíle gille thú 'S tú peata geal do mháthar
Ní phósfainn féin an táilliúirín, An táilliúirín, an táilliúirín, Ní phósfainn féin an táilliúirín Bíonn codladh grifín on gclár air
Ní phósfainn féin an gabha dubh, An gabha dubh, an gabha dubh, Ní phósfainn féin an gabha dubh Mar bíonn sé dubh sa cheartain
Ní phósfainn féin an t-iascaire, An t-iascaire, an t-iascaire, Ní phósfainn féin an t-iascaire Mar bíonn sé fliuch go bhásta
Sé mo rogha an veidhleadóir, An veidhleadóir, an veidhleadóir, Sé mo rogha an veidhleadóir Sé an veidhleadóir is fearr liom
II. Dhannsadh, gun dannsadh Dhannsamaid le Ailean Dhannsadh, gun dannsadh Dhannsadh Ailean leinn
Ruidhleadh Màiri Tàillear Dhannsadh Màiri Tàillear Ruidhleadh Màiri Tàillear Gus na dh'fhàs i tinn
Ged bha Màiri crùbach Agus car na glùinean Dhannsadh i gu sunndach Air an ùrlar ghrinn
III. Hao hil o il 'S i Cairistìon' nighean Eòghainn Hao hil o il Cha mhòr nach do chailleadh i
Hu hil u bhi Seinnidh Cas Odhar a phìob Hu hil u bhi Nì sinn ruidhl' aighearach

I really want someone with a VERY Irish name (though they'd probably go by an anglicised pseudonym) to become famous internationally to watch all the hosts and presenters struggle.
Saoirse Ronan and Domhnall Gleeson were difficult? I want to see them attempt a name like Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Sibéal Ní Chasaide, or Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin

Scarabia Character Songs and Associations
Tumblr media
Our fourth dorm, Scarabia, contains two musically-oriented students. They both have hobbies and interests that directly are influenced by music in some form or another, so what sorts of songs may fit these two characters' inner worlds, and outer selves?
Notes: Every song is from my liked songs playlist (so feel free to judge me for my taste, haha!) and I only allowed myself to use an artist once for this project. There is also some strong language and mature themes in some of the songs, so be aware if you choose to listen to them. I’ve included: - A song that represents them - A song they’d listen to - and (for some) an additional song, depending on the character and circumstance
The full Spotify playlist for ALL songs and characters is linked at the end of the post.
Heartslabyul | Savanaclaw | Octavinelle | Pomefiore | Ignihyde | Diasomnia
Kalim Al-Asim
Represented by: Top of the World - Carpenters
Kalim is first and foremost an optimist.  He's incredibly positive, and absolutely a people person.  If others are happy, he is happy!  This is especially true if it's a person he cares for deeply. This song reflects that exact sort of mindset that he holds!
Listens to: Ríleanna / Reels: Ormond Sound, The Torn Jacket - Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh
Pretty much any music that is good for dancing is something Kalim would like listening to.  ESPECIALLY upbeat, pleasant music that can be used for dancing in groups!  Since the songs I'm using here are all from my liked songs playlist, I thought that these reels would be most suited to his music taste :)
Bonus - Suggests for Music Club: Birdhouse in Your Soul - They Might Be Giants
This is an incredibly upbeat, happy song - just the type that Kalim would be drawn to. It has uplifting, somewhat silly lyrics, and an overall good energy. It also has a fairly prominent drum line, which Kalim would find fun as the main percussionist in the club!
Jamil Viper
Represented by: All Eyes On Me - OR3O
While this mostly is similar to his character in Chapter 4 and beyond (Ch. 4 spoilers ahead), this song reflects Jamil's desire to have the freedom to show who he is, his abilities, and his potential as his own person.  Plus, Jamil is remarkably powerful, and his Signature Spell/Unique Magic is made possible through eye contact, so lines like, "Focus on me /  I'll be all that they see" fit pretty well in that regard, too!
Listens to: Brain Stew - Green Day
Jamil seems like he would listen to fairly heavy music, including rock, punk, and maybe melodic metal.  Here, he would relate to the feeling of pure exhaustion conveyed in Brain Stew.  He would also like other Green Day songs, primarily those with a slower tempo (like 21 Guns), or a complex storyline and songwriting (like Jesus of Suburbia).
Bonus - Dances to: Alors on danse - Stromae
Though there are other songs with much more prominent breaks / drops, Jamil could (and would!) definitely be able to dance to some Stromae!  Stromae's music is basically made for dancing, so Jamil and his dancer's soul would really resonate with the energy of it. And he'd probably also enjoy the somewhat cynical lyrics of Alors on danse especially.

Róisín Dubh - Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and the Irish Chamber Orchestra
Róisín Dubh (Irish: [ˈɾˠoːʃiːnʲ ˈd̪ˠʊw]; "Dark Rosaleen" or "Little Dark Rose"), written in the 16th century, is one of Ireland's most famous political songs. It’s a love song... for Ireland!  This version is performed for the project "Róisín ReImagined."

Ethan Sellers of Logical Fleadh emailed: "Hey Marc -
Just wanted to send a belated thank - you for the Mother’s Day spin.  Such a nice thing to highlight the women in Celtic music.  The strong presence of women  -  especially instrumentalists  -  in traditional music is one of the things I really appreciate about the field. Cheers,"
Ann Peck McBride emailed: "I first heard the podcast about 13 years ago! And it's taken me all this time to become a Patreon member. Sorry, Marc!
I'm embarrassed to say I listen to your podcast while I'm doing housework. (It's a treat I give myself so that I'll actually do the housework) I am always surprised at the wonderful new Celtic artists you play.
I first listened to you because I needed to hear all the Celtic music I could. I listen now, partly for that reason, and partly because for the last few years, I have co - hosted a Celtic Music Hour program in Salem Oregon, on KMUZ. As my friend (and I think yours) Steve Behrens said, "We've fallen down the rabbit hole of Celtic music!" And here in the Pacific Northwest, we have a LOT of Celtic musicians... Thanks"
Debra Roche emailed a photo: "Hello, Mark, I recently played your St Patrick's Day 2023 podcast from SiriusXM and loved it!
Many years ago (1985 - 1991)I had opened The Celtic Cottage & Roche's of Ireland in Davenport, & Bettendorf, IA which brought me to do an Irish show at St Ambrose University for their college radio show.
How much fun that time in my life was! Whenever you give back to your community it is just the best when your family roots are connected! As my father's parents where from County Limerick Ireland. Glin & New Castle West.
Hope you're well and thank you for your music podcast!”
Melissa Helman emailed a photo of her dirty dishes: "So exciting, I know. Keep up the great work with the podcast."
Christopher Patrick of Salem, MA emailed a couple photos: "Hello Mark!
I can’t tell you how happy I am to have discovered the ‘Irish & Celtic Music Podcast!’ But I’m gonna try, all the same!
You see, in my childhood, my 5 siblings and I would get loaded up into our family station wagon every Saturday morning by our mother. She would then proceed to drive us all into Boston for our weekly Irish Step Dancing lessons. Our rides both in and back were spent listening to Boston’s AM’s radio show, ‘The Irish Hour,' and later, ‘The Irish Hit Parade,’ (still on the air to this day!)
So, those jigs and reels were ingrained in us in our step dancing, and the other traditional music was from our rides there and home. My mother soon landed us an agent, and we, the six kids, danced all around the Greater Boston area.
So, it is no real big surprise that these days, I play in an Irish Music Band with my family. Comprised of myself, my brother, two sisters, and brother - in - law, we perform under the name of ‘FitzBlarney,’ based in Salem, Massachusetts.
I’ve attached a coupla’ photos for you, too  -  one of the six of us in our 1970s step - dancing attire, and one from this past St. Patrick’s Day, where FitzBlarney played out at The Witches Brew pub in Salem.
The music you play means a lot to me, so, I recently became a patron. Just out of appreciation! Thanks again, and ‘Sláinte!’
P.S. I would love to one day get on your podcast! That’d be so cool!"

♫ for Grant and also ♬
hi thank you for the ask! 💜
♫ - for a smaller playlist (3-5 songs/pieces) that inspires the mun to write the muse.
i pulled these directly from my story playlist! my favorite inspo pieces are often instrumental or idk also lullabies because i find them very emotional and if you pick one you think your character would have heard, it's like getting to the core of their soul, ya know?
so here's a few instrumental pieces, two songs where the lyrics are inspo, and the last one is a lullaby 😭
across the stars (love theme from star wars: attack of the clones) - john williams
the planets, op. 32: 5. saturn, the bringer of old age - herbert von karajan
linger (acoustic) - the cranberries
not the leaving - aoife o'donovan
seoithín seothó - muireann nic amhlaoibh
♬ - for a smaller playlist (3-5 songs/pieces) that inspires the mun to write in general.
it definitely depends what mood i'm in and what i want to write and who i'm writing for but i'll try to come up with a generic list! usually if i'm listening to my generic writing inspo playlists, i don't pay too much attention to the lyrics. it's way more about the feel of the song and idk like i'm seeing a movie in my head and hearing the soundtrack. i like my inspo music to be like transitional music in a movie
what are you doing new years eve - ella fitzgerald
romeo and juliet fantasy overture - tchaikovsky
slow like honey - fiona apple
drive all night - glen hansard
ryland (under the apple tree) - i'm with her
yes i know the christmas song sticks out in this list but i'm just saying...slap that song on when you're writing a romance scene and it is UNMATCHED
