Coricopat and Tantomile: The Witch's Cats
A bit of Halloween vibes for you! So this turned out super cool and I'm really proud of it. I may have had a bit of a breakdown :3 had lots of fun adding in all the clutter on the shelves. I tried a lot of things for the first time and i think they all paid off.

This darn fic by @bamsara not only got me interested in COTL but kickstarted an unhealthy obsession with anything related to that game.
So of course I made a bookcover-style fanart of it lol.
#I have no idea how book titles are arranged so I eyeballed like most of this#I am still trying to figure out what style I even wanna go for when making fanart#but hey experimentations lead to fun shit like this “book cover”!#cult of the lamb#cotl lamb#cotl narinder#cotl the one who waits#toww#narilamb#doodles by lina

We laugh at sci-fi for how it over-explains technology, but we also need to make fun of how Victorians describe any time period that takes place more than ten years before the book's publishing date.
It's like if we wrote like this about the '80s or '90s.
According to the curious fashions of the day, she wore a shirt of tie-dye print. It may seem quaint to our modern sensibilities, but such colorful styles were a common sight in any public street of those times.
At the time this story occurred, it was not uncommon for young men to wear their hair cropped closely around the face, but allow the hair behind the head to grow until it brushed the level of the shoulders.
In those days, the information superhighway was little more than a crude unpaved path, full of hazards and beset by brigands, so it is not strange that our heroine, instead of entering her query into the search bar on her browser, went to the public library and scoured the books on the shelves for the information she sought.
She and her friends went to the theater to see E.T. How strange to think that film was once at the heights of popularity and acclaim, as well-known in its day as films like The Hunger Games or The Avengers have become in the intervening time.
I get that the lack of video and audio recording made it harder for future generations to experience the details of the past, and that technology was changing their world at a faster rate than ever before, but also, dude, it was only, like, forty years ago, so maybe chill out a bit.
#books#victober#lol#i've noticed this a lot in victorian reading this year#and then last night a chapter of 'a struggle for fame'#involved the author exclaiming over how believe it or not#in the 1850s books like jane eyre were considered the best and most popular things on the market#with a level of acclaim that things like 'the woman in white' or 'lady audley's secret' have since enjoyed#and it really brought the issue to the forefront again and was really funny#also harriet martineau was listed as the other uber-popular author alongside bronte#so maybe i should seek out that title too because it was the only one mentioned i hadn't read yet

I will always LOVE it when an objectively insane person in their own right (of which there are no short supply, in Naruto) gets a glimpse at Team Seven dynamics and gives the softest most genuine little 'what the fuck' at whatever they're witnessing. it's amazing every time. Zabuza thinking Kakashi's kids are rabid. Karin staring at sakura like she grew a second head for yelling at Naruto '...Sakura, was it, didn't YOU poison him.' All of Tenzo's long suffering growing pains with them.
#the best thing about Shippuden is that half the time we have the extra addition of Sai taking notes on team 7's behaviour#in a little book titled 'how to be the most normal person ever'#team 7#team 7 naruto#naruto#naruto uzumaki#sakura haruno#sasuke uchiha#uchiha sasuke#haruno sakura#uzumaki naruto

Me being totally normal: I can surely figure out what page he's at if I stare at it for too long
Also me, staring at it for too long: Wait...is he reading....the foreword...? I can't believe it took me this long to realize Vegas is reading the first page here. It might not even be the foreword, it might be info about the author, it's so funny. But don't worry, the good news is that he's actually reading the book in this scene:
which, of course, you can make the claim that beforehand, he was not in a good mental state (Vegas? not being mentally well? No fucking way right?) so he was trying to distract himself from whatever the fuck the whole thing he's doing at the safehouse is, but after him and Pete talk and bond and all of that good stuff, his mind can focus and actually read the damn book. Sidenote Because I'm a bit insane and very committed in finding things to obsess over with my hyperfixations, I estimated the possible percentage of the book he might be currently at, then went to the appropriate page and found this line there: "He felt very gay and light-headed, and quite forty years younger, as he walked to the door."
I swear to God, it was there, and I laughed so hard they must have heard me over in Thailand.
#this is the shit that occupies my brain every day#I might have a problem#I'm actually in the process of reading Childhood's End for a fic idea I got at random and would really like to see if it'd work#me sweating above the pages: how can I make it connect to Vegas????#surely they didn't make him read this book specifically only for its title right? RIGHT?#(the most probable answer is that yes it's because of the title but where there's a will there's a way)#(and I have a wild imagination when it comes to connecting two completely different and unrelated things together because I love them both)#(stay tuned for a fic that's coming in December for that lol)#anyway have I said how much I love this show yet?#I love this show and the brainrot it's given me#I hope it stays for a long ass time#vegaspete#vegas theerapanyakul#meta post

My fav thing about TAZ is that any aspect out of context sounds fucking bonkers.
Like, in the balance finale there's a scene in which Garfield (who is very specifically never described visually bc most people imagine him as like. The Lasagna Cat. Who in this universe is the most powerful warlock in the realm and also has a hobby of cloning people, which is great for the one character that got forced into haunting a mannequin) is summoned by an alien spaceship that runs on the power of friendship so he could beat up some flashing balls. In D&D.
And that was just. Such a normal scene in the narrative. No one blinked an eye. I would like to bow down to Griffins clear unmatched talent for making me feel such big emotions over ridiculous shit like a goddamned umbrella or a regular ass pair of jeans or the idea of a taco recipe.
#taz balance#the adventure zone#taz#i have. so many drafts of this post decontexualizing so many different scenes.#merle killing a room of autism creature looking things by asking them to tell the truth which then summons god#also merle retiring from his retirement to run fantasy margaritaville under the title Earl Merle#magnus the mannequin telling taako and merle to find the baby voidfish bc the big voidfish sung at him real hard bc in the century he#just now remembered (bc hes a mannequin not a human boy)#he gifted an alien jellyfish with dozens of shitty wooden ducks. he forgot that century bc his friend fed the jellyfishs baby a book#the gnome version of Teddy Rucksbin turns out to be the universes most competent spaceship pilot. hes also a talented opera singer#a man named Barry Bluejeans is dead and uses his ghost haunting powers to gift the three heroes badges that they cant see#right before theyre shuttled off in a cannonball to save a space lab full of kitschy elevators thats snowing pink tourmaline#barry also uses his ghost powers to hold hands with magnus and make random shapes in midair like a dresser when theyre trapped in a#fantasy version of The Dating Game hosted by ghost Jesse and James Rocket who steal bodyparts if you lose their game.#or like in campaign how a dude who wiped out in the first three seconds of ninja warrior convinces a human wifi router#who owns a bible theme park to take the apparent King of America to the white house on their hovercraft to be trued for treason#after he announced his intent to take over the country in a televised debate with an inuit goddess who is sometimes trapped in the body#of an HR worker all Donald Blake/Thor style#anyways. this show is ridiculous and i love it So Much

i still think my best fic idea/ability idea is the first fyozai fic idea i had - not the one that ive been putting up for the polls. i wish i had the inspiration for it but </3 alas there is none
#had v heavy religious themes#reader's ability was inspired by one of the most famous chapters of one of dostoevsky's works#which was intentional bc from the start of the story to like the midway point she was pretty much just an extension of him#didnt rlly have any autonomy / desires of her own - only ever did what dostoevsky wanted#her character arc centered around meeting dazai & the ada and finding her own sense of self all the while knowing she's supposed to betray#them for dostoevsky#she was part of the doa#bc in the book by mishima - decay of the angel - the title references the 5 signs of the decay of an angel in buddhist scriptures#hence the five members#so there would still be fukuchi fyodor bram sigma and nikolai as the 5 members and#she was meant to represent the decaying angel itself

Books of 2024: Cincy Bookstore Crawl Haul!
I have spent the past thirty (30) hours whirlwinding through ten (10!!!) indie bookstores in the Greater Cincinnati Area, and I had such a great time!! I told myself I was allowed to purchase Up To One (1) book at every store, which I actually mostly stuck to--I did get two used books at the Friends of the Public Library (INVISIBLE MAN and BLACK LEOPARD, RED WOLF), because those were each $3 (so I figured it hardly counted), and two at Downbound (beloved), but one is a gift so it also doesn't really count thanks :)
Please witness: The Haul, plus bookmarks from every store (except the Friends of the Public Library and iNK).
#books#books of 2024#cincy bookstore crawl#book haul#i'm actually fairly impressed with how much i didn't spend over all lol#i wasn't anticipating quite so many used books but my wallet is NOT complaining#nabokov ellison harrow and james were used#and respectively: $5 $3 $12 and $3#CAGE le guin vo solomon and jimenez were new#but i had points to use at downbound and The Bookshelf was doing discounts at the register so both of those were Not Full Price#which means really i only bought two new hardbacks and a paperback at list price??? damn i did okay lol#ANYWAY I HAD SUCH A FUN TIME THAT WAS SO GOOD!!#i didn't hit ALL the stores but i got 10/16#love how many bookstores we have#most of them were SO STINKING CUTE TOO#oh all these authors/titles were on my list#(at least either the author or the title)#(no totally off the wall impulses!!)#i didn't get a book at the manga store or the zine store but i DID get a [redacted] and a card respectively#Financially Supporting All!!#now i gotta find shelf space for this RIP me.....

Embracing the coziness of my home this winter.
#living in the woods is great until it’s winter and I work 55 miles away in the city#and I leave my home in darkness and return in darkness even in early November#and as much as I love being a preschool teacher it is incredibly draining and I have little time for the other things that bring me joy…#…during the week (especially since most of those things involve being outside)#but curling up on my couch with a book about the natural world while facing these collections is a really lovely way to spend my evenings#mousemumbles#hopefully tumblr doesn’t completely butcher the image quality so y’all can see the book titles if you want

Uh-oh! You are like, SOOO awkward!!
You're so awkward that it is occasionally mildly uncomfortable for people!
You're so awkward that sometimes people are confused by you and then there are awkward silences!
You're so awkward ...... that ultimately no one is harmed!!
Oh damn!!! What a vile crime you have committed! What an unforgivable thing it is to make a fellow human briefly confused!
Why, if *I* were ever briefly confused and kind of uncomfortable as a result, I'd be devastated.... by the absolute net zero change in my happiness and health! - From which I might never recover!! Yes indeed! No punishment can ever be enough for you!!
So you better absolutely hate yourself for it.
Better be SO MEAN to yourself about every single missed social cue so you don't forget your horrible crime! Meaner than you'd ever dream of being to someone else for the same thing! This is YOUR responsibility!
You need to show the world that you KNOW you are bad by punishing yourself constantly! After all, think of all the people who BENEFIT from you punishing yourself! - No, really! Think about it! Think about who benefits from your pain.
Think of alllllll the definitely-good people that your definitely-necessary self-torment definitely helps! I mean, you can't just cut off their definitely-life-sustaining supply of your suffering, right?? Sure, everyone else has a breaking point, but you're probably the only person in human history who doesn't, right? Best not to question it probably. Sure, it's a symptom that billions of people with trauma have had, but who knows? You could be a one-in-seven-billion exception. Anything's possible!
Instead, better just accept that idea that bullies carry like guns in holsters - the idea that people who have trouble with social cues deserve to suffer. Better carry on the burden they placed on you until you drop. Aid the cause of the callous by enforcing shame and suffering upon yourself extra hard; try your best to do their work for them. They're very busy.
Better not recognize that you need patience and kindness to heal from your trauma. Better not find out that it was trauma rather than personal weakness filling your head with self-hating thoughts. Better not find out it wasn't your fault.
Better not find out that awkwardness is not inherently harmful or unkind, and, in fact, the people who act like it is *are the ones enacting harm and being cruel.*
Better not get righteously angry when you realize just how much unnecessary damage this has done to you. After all, if you get mad, you might realize you deserve better. You might even feel brave enough to DEMAND better! You might build boundaries that keep you safe! You might make other people think they deserve to feel safe too! And we obviously can't be having that, so...
Better not show yourself even a little kindness a little bit at a time.
Better not make a habit out of it after all that practice.
Better not get confident.
Especially if you can't first wipe out every trace of awkward. (And you probably never will. Because people who experience absolute social certainty at all times tend to be insufferable assholes that enforce the status quo. And you just don't have the stock portfolio for that.)
Better not be confident and awkward because then you might confuse and delight people
- you might accidentally end up making other people feel less shame for their social difficulties
- you might make isolated, traumatized, and shy people feel like they deserve to be included in social situations
- you might even make them feel they can be themselves around you
- you might start loving the effect you have on a room
- you might enjoy conversations more
- you might forgive yourself and bounce back from shame more easily and frequently
- you might come to enjoy some of those moments of harmless confusion you cause because NOBODY expects the Confident Awkward, and that can genuinely be an advantage in social situations
- you might stop apologizing so much.
- you might find that socializing is like a video game: it requires practice but also a safe space for it to be fun and positive.
Or if you can't become assertive and confident, better not remain awkward and shy and quiet, and then love and forgive yourself anyway!
Why, it would be carnage!!
In either scenario, you run the risk of finding out that it's not your fault that safe spaces full of kind people can be really hard to find, create, and nurture. You could end up building a skillset that helps you do those things if you're not careful!
If you start giving yourself even the tiniest amount of grace at a time, you will find that you've accessed a gateway drug with extreme long-term side effects:
- You might realize that it was never your fault that it took so long to like yourself.
- You might realize that you were always worth talking to, even when you didn't like yourself and communication felt impossibly difficult.
- You might realize that you'll still be worth talking to even if communication becomes harder as you age and/or experience disability.
- You might come to know that you deserve to be heard even on bad days when words come slow and blurry.
You might discover that you were always deserving of kindness, first and foremost from yourself.
So. As you can see, it's FAR too much of a risk to start granting your awkward self free pardons for your many heinous and harmless crimes. Better to just leave it there.
#social skills#i have a few posts now in my ' social skills' tag#original#maybe eventually I will compile them and polish them in some meaningful way. I know what I want to call the book title#in big text it'll say 'I'M AUTISTIC' and then beneath that in smaller text 'And I Have Better Social Skills Than You'#or something to that effect. and the cover of the book will be me making an exaggerated smug face like the little rascal I am#challenging the viewer to pick up the book and see if they can prove me wrong.#and then the entire first section of the book is about how actually the issue with our society's social skills is the harsh judgment#for people who have trouble communicating and not the other way around. I don't actually think I'm the#most charismatic person in the world by a very long shot. but i do know that I have put more thought into my social skills than#most allistic people and frankly i have surpassed most of them. not because i am more persuasive or smooth or funny#(tho i am persuasive and funny lol) but bc i have questioned which social functions are more restriction than utility.#and instead i have focused my energy on actively learning how to make people feel safe. i feel social rules would benefit all people by#being a little more autistic tyvm. i don't think every person should dedicate themselves to being better at communicating#i think people should dedicate themselves to being kind and patient to everyone regardless of their ability to communicate#I think our society wrongly links communication ability to intelligence and intelligence to level of humanity.#when in fact all three of those things are fucking unrelated and connecting them inevitably leads to#really fucked up views on disabled people that hurt us. and then with that aspect of the book firmly understood and established I would#go on to recommend some ways to make socializing easier and more fulfilling (and less shameful and terrifying) for all kinds of people#it wouldn't be a book about Leaning In To Succeed in Business or 'here's how to avoid being the awkward loner at a party'#it'd be a book about how if you see someone alone at a party here's how to invite them to join your group without pressuring them#stuff like 'hot tip! if someone takes a while to type or speak a full sentence - talking over them b4 they can finish makes u an asshole!'#I know that a lot of people cannot or don't want to dump a lot of skill points into socializing like i did and they shouldn't have to in#order to experience basic dignity and respect. if we treat people like that then we just validate that people - especially#autistic children and elders and disabled people of manu varieties - have to suffer unless they learn all these arbitrary bullshit rules#and a lot of them are arbitrary bullshit! one of the reasons I throw people off so much is because I harmlessly break a lot of social rules#but I know I'm doing it and I'm not ashamed and people just don't know what to do with that! but a lot of them like it actually!!#i think it's a relief to be around someone so openly and unrelentingly weird bc what am I gonna do? judge you for being weird??#I only care if you're kind. not necessarily 'nice' or passive. Kind. Brave enough to care about people being treated well. Kind.#also I recognize that at least some of my ability to be openly weird is white privilege so that's important to acknowledge too

thinking of rereading the entirety of HoME again. for my health
#‘for my health’ says the woman who has been struggling so much she’s barely read a book in the last half year lmao#silmarillion#(eh close enough)#tolkien#personal#also because I got so viscerally appalled when someone the other day tried to claim that ‘the second age has a lot less written about it tha#n the first age’ like I beG YOUR PARDON LMAO WHOMST#clearly someone hasn’t read unfinished tales 🙂↔️ clearly someone hasn’t read the entirety of HoME 🙂↔️#and like obviously idc idc I’m not a completionist truther read as much or as little of a fandom as you want enjoy what you want etc.#but when I went ‘oh there’s actually a lot in unfinished tales and in the home! it’s rly fascinating and fun and some of my favorites have y#ou had a chance to check it out ever?’ this person rly had the audacity to say they’ve ’read some of the unfinished tales’ like hm. somethin#tells me I don’t believe you lmao#I have never once in my life heard someone call. unfinished tales. the book. titled unfinished tales. ‘the unfinished tales’ like lmao what#anyways. it’s okay to admit you haven’t read something babe I was actually gonna recommend a few parts of that book and HoME you might enjoy#but 💋 okay then 💋#also normally I’d give ppl the benefit of the doubt but this person is Like This TM a lot and always has to outdo others & im over it lmao#but also also anyways. The Dilemma
New inspiration for my time travel Inklings idea! Stepping away from the story worked!
Just found two new books written in exactly the time period and place I'm now drawing from.
These could just make it possible to get just enough historical detail that I could pull off setting this in the real world.
But I'm already running out of writing time and won't have time to read books and write something that satisfies my worries about historical accuracy before the deadline.
Plus real-world details could interfere with the story.
Even though the themes make more sense in the real world, going with a "real world with the names filed off" fantasy world seems to be the only real option here.
Plus it would be fun to throw in even a few fantasy worldbuilding bits.
I'm still downloading those books though.
#adventures in writing#also looking through the persephone books website feels like browsing through wright and co.#nice little website full of books i'd probably like with titles i've never heard before#also why on one of my main writing days am i sick and tired and lose all motivation and have a minor spiritual crisis?#i'm getting better but i've lost so much time#i'm losing out on most of the last week of inklings writing time so if i don't finish soon it's likely not gonna happen

So Witches We Became
YA horror
a girl and her friends go on vacation to a house on a private Florida island, but when a strange mist and toxic tar surrounds them, trapping them there, they have to find a way to survive and/or escape
while she’s being haunted by a traumatic experience with her friend’s boyfriend - who just showed up - that she’s been unable to tell anyone about, and by a shadow from her childhood that she fears might have something to do with what’s happening
sapphic, explores complicated friendships, and surviving assault
#So Witches We Became#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#Ooh yeah I thought this was good!#the first half especially was super atmospheric and had some Very creepy horror moments.#I do wonder if it would have been better if the witchy stuff was a bit more ambiguous and just its own unique paranormal thing-#if it weren’t for the title I feel like it would have felt especially random. As it is; it felt a little basic; comparatively? idk.#(I did wonder for most of the book what witches had to do with anything).#A few aspects felt a little heavy handed & I wonder if they could have been handled with more subtlety? But maybe the directness is needed.#I kinda wish there was a bit more with Nell and Harper’s relationship over the weekend#obviously the build up of tension is the point but I wish we’d seen some of the positives of their friendship#not just the flashbacks to when they were kids; because it felt like such a sudden shift from resentment to friends again at the end#I just didn’t really have any empathy for harper for most of it especially with Gavin being SO blatantly and unsubtley horrible#(though I guess Nell’s POV was biased toward showing that for obvious reasons)#but those are two specific things - broadly speaking I enjoyed it a lot!#Yay for some love for zines! though “blogs/tumblr and the like had made them all but obsolete’ false!!!!! zinefests still go hard!!#sapphic books#ya horror

It's so hard being a Rhage (from Black Dagger Brotherhood) girlie because while every other character, including background characters and newly introduced characters, have had pov chapters in multiple books. My boy Rhage has had a pov in exactly one book! And it was his book! And it was book two! (I'm up to book 12 of 22) And I didn't even get his pov in the lead up to his book like all the other characters have for their books because book one was too busy setting up the series and focusing on the main characters of that book, to fit in extra povs. So anyway it's just really hard 😭
#rhage#black dagger brotherhood#I'm up to book 12! it's been 10 books since I've had my boy rhage's pov!!#everytime i start a subsequent book and i get another john michael pov when he's had a pov in like 10 books im like come on#anyway even though I'm not looking up what happens in the future books because i want to go into each one not knowing#i did see that the title of book 14 is 'the beast' (aka rhage)#so that HAS to be about rhage!! so I'm just holding on then till then#and I'm hoping book 13 will have his pov in the lead up to his second book seeing he didn't get that the first time#so I've only gotta wait at most 2 more books and hopefully only 1!!#for more of my boy#and I'm so excited!!#anyway literally no one cares about this#and I'm rambling#so sorry about that#but you're gonna hear about it anyway
