And on a more important note, I need to see Jocelyn’s reaction to Ash… cuz I know I’m going to cry. Like idk about you guys, but reading the way she spoke about Sebastian and what could have been always broke my heart (like COFA when she went to the hospital and saw that baby 💔). Like that’s her could’ve been son (and actual grandson!)

It started with Valentine, the prick. He was just such an engaging character to me, always. When I read the books I thought he was a phenomenal villain, very nuanced, and I don't know, I liked the vibe. It's hard to explain what about him caught my attention so much, I'll have to think on that. Then I started analyzing his character a lot, which I may or may not do a few posts on, and found that even more intriguing on how he could end up so poorly, and the tragedy that if he'd made a few better choices, he could have done so much good in tsc, especially with how easily he was able to influence people. I started pondering his backstory, which included Luke and Jocelyn and their unfortunate dynamic. The other circle members came into the picture too, and I started trying to imagine how their school days would have been like, how their personalities tries together, and how on earth they could all end up like that. The reasons were of course, trauma and insecurities and I happen to find very traumatized and insecure characters that have extremely morally grey choices that you can only understand by background and context. They're just a group of insecure teenagers who made the wrong choices because they needed love and no one else could supply. I find that so engaging and explorable. They're the most human characters in TMI, and then of course the fic ideas of their school lives in the 80's in this traumatized angsty teen group that started based of rebellion to the government was also really charming, and that had me sold. Found family with a tragic twist lol

When Sebastian believes that loving means belonging to someone, that the one you love is your property, with which you can do whatever you want… this is not particularly surprising. Sebastian's mind is clouded. Demonic blood, Valentine's upbringing. I think Valentine often told him that only he loved him, that only he could love him. How important blood ties are. That Sebastian was a part of himself. All this cruel upbringing out of love for him, to make him the perfect warrior. I do not know if Valentine really loved his son, but Valentine could manipulate Sebastian to be faithful to him, and could not raise a sword against him. "only I can love a monster."

But initially, the sense of ownership came from Valentine. He did not consider it something disgusting, he perceived love as possessiveness, possession of a thing. I don't understand where it came from. he grew up in a full-fledged family, most likely with a loving mother. Yes, his father seemed strict, but clearly not as crazy as Valentin himself. Valentin himself eventually began to understand love as possession, because it was easier for him that way, or was it a Morgenstern family trait - a complete misunderstanding of love?

"here, son, I will whip you to make you stronger, but you have no right to hate me or complain about injustice, you are my son, you belong to me. You have to be perfect. Otherwise, I'll have to flog you or kill you. So don't let me down." Is that the whole point?

see guys so all the blackthorn siblings have their own life and all and every once in a while they spend time together themselves so in return all their partners get together and have their own meet up XD like imagine kieran being a big brother to kit & ash, emma and aline trying out new weapons and training with tina oh and the gossip sessions lmao they all live in different places and have the best tea loool

When Sebastian shows off to Izzy what languages he speaks, German is not on his impressive list! do they know Romanian but don't know German? I don't believe it! I will never believe that the Morgensterns have forgotten the language of their ancestors.

both of Ash's flower cards having just his first name is so interesting... normally it's a character's full name and while there are other exceptions they tend to be because they don't have a last name (eg. Kieran & other faeries). which is not the case for Ash Morgenstern (as of right now)
