I was just bored and l just decided to take a look at this sub-zero refrigerator:

When Sebastian believes that loving means belonging to someone, that the one you love is your property, with which you can do whatever you want… this is not particularly surprising. Sebastian's mind is clouded. Demonic blood, Valentine's upbringing. I think Valentine often told him that only he loved him, that only he could love him. How important blood ties are. That Sebastian was a part of himself. All this cruel upbringing out of love for him, to make him the perfect warrior. I do not know if Valentine really loved his son, but Valentine could manipulate Sebastian to be faithful to him, and could not raise a sword against him. "only I can love a monster."

But initially, the sense of ownership came from Valentine. He did not consider it something disgusting, he perceived love as possessiveness, possession of a thing. I don't understand where it came from. he grew up in a full-fledged family, most likely with a loving mother. Yes, his father seemed strict, but clearly not as crazy as Valentin himself. Valentin himself eventually began to understand love as possession, because it was easier for him that way, or was it a Morgenstern family trait - a complete misunderstanding of love?

"here, son, I will whip you to make you stronger, but you have no right to hate me or complain about injustice, you are my son, you belong to me. You have to be perfect. Otherwise, I'll have to flog you or kill you. So don't let me down." Is that the whole point?

Am I the only one who hopes Dru won't be a swordswoman? because as all the main female characters (except Tessa) are swordswoman, it's a bit boring in the long run

What I really enjoy about Luke and Maryse's interactions in City of Ashes is that they clearly grew up separate from each other. Both of them are in their late thirties, but they hold this image in their heads of who the other was when they were teenagers, when they were enthralled by Valentine's hateful rhetoric.

From how he describes them to Clary, it's clear that Luke looks down on the Lightwoods. He says that they were Valentine's closest lieutenants and the most dedicated to his doctrine, and yet he ignores the fact that he was Valentine's second-in-command for most of the Circle's existence. He knows that he had doubts at the time and then grew into a kind and accepting adult, but Robert and Maryse appeared dedicated to Valentine from the outside and have been separate from Luke ever since, so to him they must still be as cruel as they ever were. He sees himself as superior because he got out first, but forgets that he stuck around until Valentine literally told him to kill himself, while Robert and Maryse surrendered to the Clave voluntarily.

Then there's Maryse, who's still bitter over Luke's betrayal. Not because he turned against Valentine, but because he and Jocelyn set a trap that ended with every member of the Circle (other than the Lightwoods, Hodge, and Michael) being killed by the combined forces of the Clave and the Downworlders. Of course Maryse is being pretty hypocritical here, since she was fully in on the plan to murder a bunch of unarmed diplomats, but she does have a point that Luke and Jocelyn did nothing to protect their former friends. Their plan saved lives in the long run, but it resulted in far more bloodshed that night than Valentine's simple massacre.

After Valentine's supposed death, Jocelyn, Luke, Robert, and Maryse all went into a sort of retirement in New York City. For Luke and Jocelyn it was their mundane employment and for Maryse and Robert is was their place as Institute heads, but both couples spent fifteen years raising their kids and learning to be better people. By the time we see them in TMI, all four former circle members had come to terms with how atrocious Valentine had been and dedicated themselves to doing better with their adult lives, but since it happened in relative isolation, they all still remember each other as they were at age twenty. To Maryse, Luke is still the man who left his friends to die, and to Luke, Maryse is still the woman who stuck by a murderer until the end.

I just think it's very interesting that there are so few survivors of the Circle left in 2007, and barely any of them communicate with each other at all. Amatis was left alone in Idris, Hodge felt so abandoned by the Clave that he went back to Valentine, Robert and Maryse trapped themselves in a loveless marriage rather than give up the illusion of stability they'd built for their kids, Luke and Jocelyn denied their past until it came to find them, and Michael was killed with his family in a scheme that would never have worked if a single person came to check up on him in the ten years Valentine inhabited his life. They could have found a community through this common experience, but instead they saw each other as monsters for the things they all did.

luke and amatis two of the most interesting characters in the shadowhunter universe... WHY do we not get the greymark family in any of the other timelines? why not more with their family?

And on a more important note, I need to see Jocelyn’s reaction to Ash… cuz I know I’m going to cry. Like idk about you guys, but reading the way she spoke about Sebastian and what could have been always broke my heart (like COFA when she went to the hospital and saw that baby 💔). Like that’s her could’ve been son (and actual grandson!)

see guys so all the blackthorn siblings have their own life and all and every once in a while they spend time together themselves so in return all their partners get together and have their own meet up XD like imagine kieran being a big brother to kit & ash, emma and aline trying out new weapons and training with tina oh and the gossip sessions lmao they all live in different places and have the best tea loool

both of Ash's flower cards having just his first name is so interesting... normally it's a character's full name and while there are other exceptions they tend to be because they don't have a last name (eg. Kieran & other faeries). which is not the case for Ash Morgenstern (as of right now)

The Morgensterns are Swiss, but they don't seem to speak German anymore, but they know Russian and Romanian. The Morgensterns owned a pair of Circassian daggers, the cold steel of the Caucasus. Black eye color is most often a sign of Oriental blood. Who are the Morgensterns really?

I'm sorry, she's a horrible mother to Jonathan who might have had the chance to be a good person even with his demon blood. if he hadn't been raised by Valentine

although I understand that she was perhaps blinded by love not to see the things that Valentine was spanking

It turns out that Valentine did not hide the fact that he was studying magic and it did not bother Jocelyn? Considering that magic is unnatural for shadowhunters

It’s actually crazy how negligent the Clave can be.

Like, forget them being ignorant enough to let mere teenagers form a group (the Circle) with an ideology no one did anything to put a stop to except for frowning upon it, or even letting teenagers do their dirty work when they themselves should’ve been doing it all along, but knowing the Clave as I do, I still would’ve expected them to keep a check on the deceased (with no family left) or exiled shadowhunters’ homes instead of leaving them as they were. Like, those lands could’ve been passed to other families, or something, no?

Instead, a supposed threat of a man assumed dead lived there and raised a boy (or two) in the heart of their home country/city (?)
