Oh, yes! These guys were once best friends and almost brothers, and there is not a single drawing on them. It's not fair!
Give me 6 The Shadowhunter Chronicles ships to make a fanart of
Tumblr media
We have the first winner: Malec/Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood
Honestly I knew they’ll be the first one to win but Jemma/Blackstairs was pretty close too! In fact Malec only won by 1.
But let’s be honest, which one of us doesn’t love a good Malec fanart sigh
Now we are in for round 2!
Rules if you wanna vote for your fav ship to get on it next:
-comment or reblog with your suggestion
-it doesn’t have to be canon but if you’re being weird about it (incest, pedophilia etc.) you’re getting blocked and ofc it doesn’t count as a vote
-only ships with book characters from any book. I’ve never watched the show and don’t plan on it and I won’t draw anyone from there <3
-have fun and be nice to others!!

I watched a movie about a sect, and this moment strongly associated Stephen and his relationship to Valentine and the circle. in the end, this smile is fanatically sick. and the fact that Stephen knelt in front of Valentine seems to be canon, judging from the graphic novel by Cassandra Jean...
A moment from the movie "Jackals" 2017; Music - Gothic Lullaby Eric Vargas; The text of Cassandra Clare from Stephen's letter to Jace

*Clary and Jace watching a movie on a Saturday night*
Jace: I've noticed that there is something that makes me angry and sad at the same time.
Clary: Do you want to tell me?
Jace:
Clary: It's okay if you don't want to.
Jace: I miss him.
Clary: Who?
Jace: Valentine... When we watch a movie he might like or learn a new language, when I manage to do something I thought it was impossible. I still think about him, a part of me wants to run to show him what I did and hope I makes him proud.
Jace: I miss my dad, and I hate him for it.

Fell in love…? And Amatis continued to write letters, perhaps even dating, and confessed that he hated his unborn child. It was as if he was being forced at gunpoint to have children with Celine. Who had just turned 18, and Stephen considered her a child who needed to be told what to do. Isn't it a little early for her to become a mother? She hasn't grown up yet.
Celine Herondale
I've read the book abt Celine Herondale and I'm just going to say that she's one of my favorites characters I ship her and Stephen so bad
really I love her
I know that Stephen was married with Amatis and Valentine made them break but I think that after a bit Stephen fell for Celine. Like, he started to like her as a friend and then he fell.
Like James did with Cordelia.
I KNOWWWW poor Amatis I feel bad for her 😭😭
But I can't Celine is so precious
Celine and Stephen are my roman empire sorry i love Amatis but Celine>>>>>>

I do not know who this is, but he reminds me a hell of a lot of Valentine Morgenstern

Ash is not like Sebastian, because he was born like that, and Sebastian was injected with blood artificially. Cassie said that Lilith's blood had destroyed his conscience, his morality. He doesn't understand human nature. She interestingly answered all the questions about Sebastian and his upbringing and blood on her Tumblr, hinting that it was the demon's blood that blackened his soul, but it would be better if she wrote about it in more detail in the canon! I would like more information about baby Sebastian and how he grew up, because so far, I don't see anything terrible about him as a child.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sebastian is awful yes & pretty much irredeemable within canon but sometimes I wonder how he would have turned out if he hadn't been raised by Valentine. like yes he has Lilith's blood but how much did that actually contribute to him becoming a monster. how much of it was from growing up being told your a monster, that there's something so inherently wrong with you that it drove your own mother away because she was incapable of loving you.
like maybe the two Jonathan ending up how they did has less to do with the experiments Valentine preformed and more to do with the different ways he raised him knowing which blood ran in their veins. which is supported by Clary & Ash, whom Valentine had no direct influence over, because Ash has Lilith's blood and is capable of being caring etc and Clary has Ithuriel's blood and is capable of being cruel & heartless.

Young age is not an excuse. She understood everything about who Valentin was and what he was capable of, saw with her own eyes how he framed people, killed her parents. After that she decided to stay in the circle🤦 In a circle where most people think she's a little kid. When she destroyed another family, she didn't care what might happen to Amatis. At 17, her brain should have been working by now.
To be honest, most of the members of the circle are terribly stupid. almost none of them support Valentine's ideology, but they are still in his ranks. Valentine may be crazy, but he's nothing without the support of people.
Okay recently I’ve been talking about Jocelyn so now I want to talk about another circle member: Céline (I might make this series).
I find Céline an interesting character because she is not a good person but it’s also the fact she doesn’t know how to be a good person.
I know a lot of people aren’t fond of her or really don’t find any interest in her, which is fine. But I find her so compelling from the snippets we’ve gotten. She is this poor abused girl who literally couldn’t get any help (which she begged for!) to get away from her abusive parents. Not only does she not have any good role models in her life, or even friends, she falls into the hands of Valentine.
Her relationship with Valentine is so interesting because he plays on her need of not wanting to be alone. This is the first time in her entire life she’s ever had a group of people to care about her. Céline herself said she even thought about becoming a silent sister but realised it was too secluded.
Her relationship within this group is so interesting because she is just a chest piece Valentine needed. Céline does not agree with Valentines hatred’s towards downwordlers, shes even quite fond of them. She’s only with this group because she wants to feel loved for once, to feel wanted.
Even so, she is consistently manipulated by Valentine and she ends up making really poor decisions. Telling Valentine she wants him to make Stephen leave Amatis (preface: not blaming her for this, these are two grown men and she’s 17). Also letting Valentine kill her parents (also deserved). So much of this is literally based on the fact that Valentine is manipulating the fact all she wants is to be loved, cared for. He even literally tells her the circle is her only family (even though she wasn’t a close to a lot of them!).
Tumblr media
I think it’s even worse when she’s pregnant because she’s so excited to have this baby.
Tumblr media
To her this was her starting a real family, a family that truly loved her. I think it’s even worse knowing that Hodge and Valentine killed her, but set it up as a suicide. The world will never know she didn’t kill herself :(. She never even got the change to meet Jace (I wonder what she would have named him!).
I know a lot of people don’t like her, which I understand. But she’s this character who’s quite literally never stopped being abused and manipulated. She makes me so sad :,(

"birthdays should be special."
Did this tradition extend to Jonathan-Sebastian? Then I want to know what he did that day and what he asked for.

From the moment I found out that Luke and Valentine were parabatai, I was wondering which one of them suggested it first. if it was Valentine, which it probably is (Luke seems so indecisive during his school years), then it's even a little funny. he created this connection himself and destroyed it himself, and called this connection a weakness💔

If I had to describe Valentine, I would say that he was a devoted son, a selfish husband and father, a talented teacher and a magnificent villain.
He was evil, and it's good that an angel killed him, but sometimes I miss his funny speeches and dirty antics.
He seems so devout, hides behind the phrase "Deus vult", believes that his life's work is what heaven wants, but conducts a ritual that will make Raziel fulfill his wish.
"Do you intend to challenge heaven like that other Morning Star whose name you bear, Shadowhunter?"
And now he's in hell, along with his Morning Star.

I'm sorry that it's impossible to find out more about Valentine's father. Sebastian said that Valentine loved and hated his father-hmm, I wonder how Valentine told him about this? Once he realized how he really felt about his father, why didn't he stop, smooth out the corners and become better for his children? I want to laugh at this fact: I am so interested in a character about whom almost nothing has been said - Oscar Morgenstern, what kind of man and father was he? What is his story?
I'm guessing that maybe Oscar and his family lived in the epicenter of World War II, and during any war, demons appear in the world more often and in large numbers. Perhaps Oscar's parents died in this war, he was orphaned early, grew up early, these losses made him strong (in his understanding), and he decided that the best thing he could do was raise his son as a better warrior, the only way he could show his love. Otherwise, I cannot explain Valentine's father's worldview: "loss and pain make you stronger." This family has definitely experienced and lost something.
kinda pissed ngl
This post wasn’t supposed to be a rant…
I originally began by wondering what Valentine’s father must have been like, for him to be so influenced by him.
We’re told that he had a similar upbringing to Jace and Sebastian, one involving the expected manipulation and abuse. However, those two completely disavowed any association with Valentine, and hated him with a passion: one was prepared to kill him, while the other acknowledged him only though blood, downright saying “I’d like to spit in his bastard face” behind his back. I wondered why Valentine didn’t have this attitude toward his own father. How, instead, he destroyed himself and everyone around him while pursuing revenge. How a son in an abusive situation could love his father that much.
And, yeah, there’s many other factors that tie into Jace and Seb’s hatred, but that’s exactly my point. When it comes to Valentine’s relationship with his father, it’s a big, fat blank — and I hate it. First of all, there wouldn’t even be a Mortal Instruments series without the initial villain that propelled the plot, and this is that villain’s story! Why don’t we know more? Why is there this empty gap between Valentine being a “gentle, kind boy” who had “an intensity bent toward doing what was right, what was good” and then suddenly the murderous, raging sociopath takes center stage? With zero elaboration??
Part of the reason I’m tired out by the hate is because we never get to find out why. Sebastian’s why is the demon blood coursing through his veins, his determination to bind his family to him, no matter how unwilling, and to raise Hell. It’s in his nature. He had no choice. His eyes were meant to be “green as spring grass”. We bawled for a reason.
All I’ve ever been trying to do since I became fascinated with Valentine’s character was filling in that why. The blank in his character arc – the blank that makes him look cartoonish, and just a bloated allusion to Hitler. It made him so easy to hate, and so difficult to understand. Why did he fight so hard for change, and as early as twelve years old? Why was he so good at manipulating people, at filling in a hole where they felt lacking, at being able to charm his way out of deadlines and due dates with just a smile? (That sounds like a legit superpower. Sign me up.) Why does he say the word “party” with such revulsion, as if at fifteen years old he wouldn’t even allow himself to have fun?
Who were Oskar and Seraphina? (He even had an uncle.) How do they fit into this villain’s backstory, the grief-fueled rage that ultimately defines his transition into the bad guy, and decides the fates of so many other characters? They have to be more than just a mention in the Shadowhunter Codex in order to flesh out Valentine’s character, in order to help us empathize with his downfall, and see his flaws echoed in ourselves. That’s the tried and true way to write a fantastic villain. To capture the very evil that resides in all of us – instead of taking abuse, racism, bigotry, whatever feature of modern politicians or conservative alt-rights you can slap onto a fictional character in order to evoke the strongest response from a target audience. Relying on real life and nothing else to give your antagonist dimension is a cheap move. I hated that Valentine was a springboard for Sebastian’s narrative. I hated that he was sidelined as the psychopath, when in reality he wasn’t genetically predisposed to violence at all – he became a monster. He wasn’t born one. He aligns with the criteria for a sociopath much more accurately, and on plenty of different levels (I did my research, Sherlock!!) But all for what?
This is the man that dies “unable to distinguish between force and cooperation, between fear and willingness, between love and torture”. This is the man that tells Jocelyn in her deleted story: “I’m afraid of losing myself in all this sometimes, Jocelyn. It’s why I need you. You keep me human.” … and who loses himself anyway. This is the man that learned, painfully, that “To love is to destroy, and to be the one loved is to be the one destroyed.” Not Jace. Not Sebastian. This is the man that came to the conclusion that he was meant for a higher purpose, that he had driven away everyone he loved – and was forbidden from trying to retrieve them – because they were distractions, that he couldn’t allow himself to be human. We probably expected Valentine’s flower card to do with pride, or vanity, or rage. Instead, it was the anemone – a flower that means forsaken.
For·sak·en: abandoned or deserted.
There’s an underlying tragedy behind Valentine Morgenstern, and I’ve struggled to dig it up, at least for the last four years now. Though his actions are inexcusable, and there is no doubt that racism, bigotry, and abuse are the extents of his monstrosity… he was once the good guy. The hero, even, set on reforming the future, ensuring that the world would be safe. Instead, he becomes “the very monster he sought to destroy”, and the only word from him is? That he parallels himself to Milton’s Lucifer, and that’s about it. Fuck this.
…….
I just think the very first villain to ever grace Cassandra Clare’s seductive, compelling Shadowhunter universe – deserves a little bit better.

All I expect from twp is an epic appearance of Lucifer, and that he won't be as boring as Belial.
And in the end, what's wrong with him?
Has Lucifer escaped from hell? Doesn't it have a shell? Is this shadow just a shadow or is it Lucifer's shadow? I'm intrigued.
