This ask is a free ticket - I want to hear you ramble and babble about something that delights you, please. I think you're lovely.
apologies to everyone but it's time for yall to hear my story about Jack Frost u_u
so about 5 years before Rise of the Guardians came out, one of my friends, unbeknownst to me, was working with William Joyce at his new studio Moonbot. One day they messaged me and said "I have a NDA, but something I'm working on is gonna make you go nuts". I'm like "oh that's ambiguous and I wonder what dragon or monster they are getting to work on :O"
We hadn't spoken much, and we still don't talk much bc I have a tendency of being an idiot and saying the wrong things, but my dear friend had spotted that I have Issues when it comes to Spiky White Hair.
anyway, RotG comes out and I p much forgot about this until I go out to see it and instantly when I watched it I turned my head all the way across the united states to dead stare at them because I KNEW it was them somehow, they confirmed it, and now I'm Extra insane bc when I look at him, I'm like "THIS DEAD BOY WAS MADE FOR ME" and I feel the need to climb into his eyeballs against my will.
anyway I also used this knowledge later to ask my friend if Jack Frost Shits like a Bird and told them I would count their answer as word of god, and they said Yes he has a Cloaca so here you guys go. New RotG canon 11 years in the future.
bless you anon and good day to you all. u_u
#replies#rise of the guardians#text#jack frost#I'm so sorry to all my followers looking at me and judging#jack frost and skimbleshanks both make me feel legitimately fucking nuts and I have to limit how much I think about them#or I go feral

Well it's finally happened. I'm getting to direct a movie. It's called "The Extincts".
It was announced in all the trades, Cartoon Brew, The Hollywood Reporter... you name it.
This is a journey I started when I was 5 years old...when I went to see my first movie at the grand old movie palace, The Strand, in downtown Shreveport, Louisiana. The theater is still there. And so are my movie mad dreams.
Every Saturday The Strand showed a classic kids matinee... like Robin Hood ...
or King Kong...
...or a Ray Harryhausen fantasmagoria...
These movies scorched their vivid images into my young brain and I never recovered. Who could not be haunted forever by scenes like the one from Pinocchio when Lampwick is turned from a boy into a donkey. Who could ever forget him screaming for his mother as he drops on all fours and his voice becomes a bray "Momma! Maaaaammmaaa!!!" He was lost forever but so was I. Lost in the power, the terror, the wonder of the movies.
I'll be making the film in France. My daughter Mary Katherine lived in Paris in the last months of her life. She was as brave as any film heroine. And somehow I take great comfort in continuing my journey in the place where she blazed her own trail.
Mary Katherine was always followed by lady bugs. Even when she lived in Paris. Her room still fills with them several times a year. One of my new producers, a rowdy woman from London, told me she'd been finding lady bugs in her clothes and luggage. I took that as a good omen.
The streets of France seemed open to whimsy and possibilities.
And "Extincts" has many whimsies.
Looking for daydreams to put on the screen..
Dreams that only the movies can make seem real ...
A journey that began in childhood will keep going on and on and on till I'm back where I started. Back home. Where, despite all the hard times and heartbreak the past and possibilities stroll together as easy and happily as a breeze.
Wish me luck.

Sketchbook Prompt #1
As we start the Children’s Book Illustration this week, I would like you to watch this promotional trailer for William Joyce’s book “The Mischievians” 2013. Take special note on how everyday things become personified in Joyce’s characters. How does the stylistic approach inform the narrative ?
You may want to investigate more images from Joyce’s book here

Friday Film Short
The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, a 2011 animated short from Moonbot Studios in Shreveport, Louisiana. It was the Oscar winner for Best Animated Short that year, directed by William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg. “Previously on …” Say the phrase and most listeners’ brains switch to a favorite channel and television series. It is part of our vernacular. It instantly evokes a compound state of remembering and anticipating.
Myriapod Productions embodies that state of mind in its animated alphabet-book film series Mysteries of Vernacular. Each book for each…

Memories [practice 1] | update 1
inspirations
Memories and nostalgia is the next topic for the brief. One of my favourites animations touches on this topic in a lovely manner. La maison en Petits Cubes by Kunio Kato tells a story of a man living in the world where the water level constantly increases and because of that he is forced to repeatedly build another floor on top of the flooded one. One day he dives in the water and visits the old levels that remind him of his life. I first saw this animation on a festival and everything, from the music to the visual expression, absolutely moves me. The animation has a rather slow pace.I think what I admire about this movie is it’s ability to show a very sad topic, but still show it a way that put a smile on your face. The story and a concept is genius, the metaphor each cube representing a certain period of life, makes you really strongly connected to the story.
youtube
Whenever I try to come up with any animation I take inspiration from La maison en Petits Cubes, just because I consider it as a very good visual story. The animation uses no words and despite that the viewer has no problem understanding the world and its laws entirely.
For my animation, however, I would like to use a voice over. My two main inspirations are Taking Flight and One small step. I would show a kid’s perception of a world. One small step is a beautiful story that has incredible visuals. For Memories, I would very much like to go in that mood of an aesthetic. Soft colours and glow. I think it is a very well made animation because everything in it kind of reminds you of a dream and aspirations, the added glow is directly connected with the girl’s dream of being an astronaut and her father. It also reminds the viewer of the space and the stars. Taking flight has a different aspect that I would like to showcase in my animation. It shows a father that is forever busy but once he sees he’s old cart he comes back to the world of imagination and carelessness.

storyboard
[voice over transcript: When you are a kid, sometimes you don’t fully grasp some concepts. So when I was a kid, I would watch this one movie, not because it was my favourite. I watched it because every time the characters would go on the adventure and every time they would be so close to the final, the movie would stop and the screen would glitch. I would be so disappointed... But in my kid’s logic, I just had to give the cassette some more time to rest and so it could stop being so mean. So I would watch it again and again, until I got too old. I need to say, it still bugs me, how did the movie end?]
The story is quite long, I assume that I won’t be able to complete it all in less than a week. However, I think I will try to start it and completed it to some extend.
I am still learning the new software so I will have to figure out how to get a best visual effect with what I know so far. The animation of a character I want to be inspired by the main girl from One small step.
