Case 10 - The Moonlight’s Pacifism (part 1)

[AO3 version]

Takeru was passing by when he noticed a group of Amanogawa High students gathering… at the parking lot.

“Huh, what’s that?” Patamon flew over people’s heads and saw a group of kids fighting with their digimon, “Hah!? A digimon battle!?”

“What??” Takeru gasped, then he tried to approach, but the number of students was making a strong, thick barrier. Then he had an idea, “Patamon, come back…”

Patamon came back, and then Takeru Armor evolved it into Pegasusmon. He jumped on Pegasusmon’s back and they flew around the area, like a helicopter following some car chase… Or a digimon battle. With this, Takeru could notice the ones fighting were a Gumdramon and a Sparrowmon.

“I will sweep the floor with your tears, Akashiya!” Takeru heard a tomboy girl with short blonde hair shouting, “Sparrowmon, let’s show them our strength!!”

“Heh. keep dreaming, Tenno!!” The spiky haired boy with a red colored bang covering his forehead smirked, “Gumdramon, don’t dare to lose!!”

“Are they… fighting each other?” Takeru muttered, he had never seen a digimon fight in the sense of a street fight… Or, like those TV series where children used monsters to fight each other as some sort of sport.

“Takeru we should intervene--” Pegasusmon suggested, especially when the light of evolution hit his and Takeru’s eyes, making them blind for a second, “Guh!”

When the light faded, they were looking at Arresterdramon (Akashiya’s partner) and RaptorSparrowmon (Tenno’s) forms facing each other -- Oh no this won’t be good…!! Takeru was sure things would end up bad if those two digimon just started hitting the buildings and that crowd would be in big danger right now…!!

It was when… A third digimon with very fast and graceful movements hit the fighting digimon with… bombs!? No, those were… bubbles… Bomb-bubbles!? The digimon fell asleep and devolved back to Babydmon and Monimon respectively.

“What!?” both Akashiya and Tenno exclaimed in surprise.

In front of them there was a Lekismon. Akashiya and Tenno stared at the 3rd competitor, as if that digimon just ruined their fun. But a girl with short blue hair and a moon hairpin appeared next to the digimon:

“The school rules do not allow starting a digimon battle in the school’s fields” The girl said with a serious tone, “If you want to pick a fight do it outside and a safer area to battle, like in the Digital World’s fields.”

“Who the heck is this gi-- Oh!!” Tenno babbled until she recognized the one opposing her spar with Akashiya, “It’s… It’s the popular psychic girl, Lune!”

Yes, this girl is one of the popular kids from Amanogawa High. The one who’s nicknamed as ‘Lune’ (Moon in French), because her real name -- Mizuki --, has the kanji for ‘moon’ in it. Besides that, Lune is also a very serene and gentle person… Her partner is Lekismon, Lunamon’s adult form. She’s from the other classroom next to Takeru’s classroom (which also has Daisuke and Hikari in it)

“Riiiiiiiiiight” Akashiya shrugged, “ C’mon Tenno… Let’s solve this later and outside the school area. Or this goody-two-shoes will interrupt us again.”

“Good, just don’t put anyone’s lives in danger again” Lune smiled at the other two.

The crowd and the two troublemakers left the area, leaving just Lune and Takeru there. Pegasusmon landed on the ground carefully and Takeru jumped to the ground.

“That was… impressive” he approached Lune with a grin, “What kind of digimon is your partner?”

“Oh, if it isn’t Takaishi-kun” Lune looked at him, but without any interest in proceeding that conversation, “Lekismon can put anyone to sleep with her Moon Gloves, didn’t you know?”

“Isn’t that bad?” Patamon (he had just devolved to child form) landed on Takeru’s head, “They devolved to Baby level…”

“They were already running amok” the girl replied calmly, “Lekismon just helped them to relax and end their partners’ discussion.”

“I wonder why they were fighting for…” Takeru frowned, something… was strange there… she left with Lekismon and all Takeru did was watch her leaving.

After class, and in their usual karaoke booth, Daisuke slapped a pamphlet on the table. They all looked at it, and then to Daisuke and V-mon.

“W-why are y’all lookin’ at us!?” Daisuke babbled, “Just look at this! Is this possible, or is this a scam!?”

“A digimon battle arena?” Hikari asked, reading the paper again, “But… Why would something like this exist…?”

“I dunno! Someone passed by me and Chibimon and gave me those, they even have a prize for the winner. Something is fishy here, don’t ya think?”

“Why would someone give you that?” Miyako raised an eyebrow.

“Maybe… They thought I was strong? Or just some easy victim to fall for the scam…?”

“Definitely the latter,” Ken, Iori and Miyako said nonchalantly.

“H-hey!!” Daisuke snapped, staring at them, but then he went back to the subject, “So, should we check this thing?”

“You’re interested in some digimon fight, right?” Tailmon sighed.

“W-we ain’t!” Daisuke and V-mon defended themselves quickly.

“... Daisuke’s right, this seems sketchy” Ken said, “We should put an end to this before someone gets hurt.”

“By the way…” Armadimon took the pamphlet to read it, “What’s the big priz--”

-- BIG PRIZE: The winner gets a special all-you-can-eat ticket in the Downtown region of the Digital World!! --

“... ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT TICKET!?” the digimon and the kids (except for Daisuke & V-mon) exclaimed.

“... I get why Daisuke(-san) and V-mon want to investigate it…” Iori and Miyako side-eyed at those two.

“If it’s real, they will just compete for the big prize,” Patamon shook his head.

“Predictable, as always” Hawkmon nodded sagely.

“NO!? We’re not aiming for the prize!” Daisuke growled “There’s something fishy here!”

“Hmm… A battle tournament, huh…” Someone was talking to Lune on the phone, while she held one of those pamphlets, “I see, your goal is to stop those silly games.”

“Yes, I don’t like this kind of business… Someone could get hurt, especially the digimon.”

“What do you plan to do then?”

“Close that battle arena, of course. I doubt it is a legally authorized event. Can you help me here… Soleil ?”

“If you want some evildoers to get punished, why not?”

A few days later, after the registrations to the tournament were completed… All the competitors and audience were gathered at a mysterious dimensional-space…?! Suspicious… Ken was not sure if it was safe to send one of them there so they plotted some… disguises for everyone beforehand.

“Are you ready for some brawl??” A Volcamon was the MC, energetic and loud, blasting his voice on the microphone, “Testing all the abilities of the digimon tamers around, there’s a big prize!! The All-You-Can-Eat ticket for the restaurants and street food from the Downtown region of the Digital World!”

Ken, Miyako, Iori, Takeru and Hikari were in the crowd and wearing something different from their usual: Hikari had rose colored sunglasses, lemon yellow shirt and a straw hat with a pink ribbon on it; Takeru was wearing an orange hoodie, lensless glasses frames and a medical mask on; Iori had a yellow parka, red-orange shirt and a black cap; Miyako had a low ponytail and a few strands of hair in her face; her high school uniform and a rose red cardigan, also she was wearing golden frames with purple lens sunglasses; and finally Ken… had his hair spiked ala Kaiser, but smaller, and was wearing a lavender collar shirt with a cream color coat over it.

“Are you sure we had to send Daisuke-san and V-mon for this job all alone?” Wormmon asked the group, in a whisper.

“He’s good at entertaining and keeping everyone busy,” Tailmon replied, whispering back, “Don’t worry.”

“Besides they asked for it” Takeru added, “Let’s get separated, like we planned.”

“Alright, have your earpieces online right?” Miyako asked them, and they nodded, “Alright… I’ll wait in a less crowded place with my laptop.”

The group divided between three: Miyako went to a place the cameras couldn’t get her, a blink spot in the area. Ken left sleuthing around the arena, Takeru, Iori and Hikari kept in the main area, watching the battles and keeping in touch with everyone -- Daisuke included…

The first fight began: It was a blonde girl and a Floramon against a brunette boy with a Bearmon. Before they could evolve, Floramon used the special technique Sweet Scent on Bearmon, attracting him to her vines. She then finished him by spreading her secret trick, the Allergy Shower technique. Bearmon felt his energy drained and then all Floramon had to do was to throw it out of the arena -- and this is what happened. The boy came to check on Bearmon, but he felt discouraged to keep fighting.

“OH WOW, BEARMON IS OUT OF COMBAT!!” Volcamon announced, “THE WINNER IS KIMISHIMA AND FLORAMON!!” The audience cheered.

“How much time until Daisuke-kun’s first battle?” Hikari asked, looking a little concerned for some reason.

“According to the schedule,” Iori spoke, looking at the list of participants, “There’s enough time to Ichijouji-san and Miyako-san discover something before his first batt--”

“Oi oi! I’m also workin’ here…!!” Daisuke hissed at the communicator, “There’s a lot of people… Really, I think I heard of a ‘special’ fighter being in it here…”

“Special?” Takeru, Hikari, Iori, Miyako and Ken exclaimed through their communicator devices.

“Hmm…” Ken mused, “A special fighter, huh…” Suddenly he heard someone chatting with another inside a room. Huh, something about…?

“So… There’s a ton of humans partnered with digimon right now…” “Yes, sir! And… What will we do, do you think they can beat our champion?” “As if! No one has ever beaten her before!” “But… What if they do? How about the prize…?” “Ah… She will get rid of them, in this case.”

“Get rid of them…?” Wormmon muttered to Ken, who bit his lip. So this is why Daisuke felt it was a scam… Something really suspicious was happening right there…

Ken and Wormmon kept eavesdropping their convo, for more details:

“Do you think it’s a good idea, my king…?” “We have no option, my child.”

“We heard enough,” Ken muttered to Wormmon, “we have to go out here quickly.”

“Right!!” Wormmon nodded and whispered back. But the moment they tried to escape… Something came from the shadows like fabric tape-like tentacles and captured both!! “W-WHA!?”

“How did they--” Ken babbled, struggling to get free from those tape-like tentacles.

“Oh, you heard the king’s little chit chat, huh” A feminine voice spoke, then they saw a digimon mollusk with a humanoid form -- TeslaJellymon -- “Huh? Aren’t you…”

“Oh no, she recognized us…” Wormmon panicked.

“... A heavy metal freak?”

Ken and Wormmon blinked, that’s a relief… Ken’s haircut change didn’t ring a bell on his infamous older persona…

“S-sure… let’s go with that” Ken replied with his sassy tone.

“Let us go!!” Wormmon ordered.

“I can’t let you ruin my business, punk. I’ll use those humans to train my abilities and get stronger…!”

“Ichijouji-kun, are you hearing?” Takeru spoke via the earpiece communicator, “Have you discovered something already?”

Dang I can’t respond right now… -- Ken thought. He knew if he tried to reach his ear to transmit his microphone he would call attention!! Now, what can he do!??

Some battles after, and no answers from Ken’s end… Takeru shook his head to the other two and their mons.

“No answer…” Takeru whispered.

“Should we go look for him?” Hikari asked with a concerned look.

“Ah, wait… Look, it's Daisuke and V-mon, dagya” Armadimon pointed to the arena, and… he was wearing a dark red sleeveless hoodie that looked like his original iconic Digital World’s jacket, a black shirt with gray and dark gray stripes. He had some orange shades and a blue scarf on and covering his face. V-mon was also disguised for some reason -- he had a purple robe covering him, with the hood on.

Volcamon’s voice blasted from the speakers: “AND HERE’S THE NEXT BATTLE COMPETITORS, BUDDYMON AND LANCE GOLDHART!!”

“What’s with that big name there?” Armadimon squinted his eyes. “He said he got this name from a TV show.” Takeru, Hikari, Iori replied with a sigh.

“AND ON THE OTHER EDGE, IT’S BANCHOU-GOMAMON AND BIG J.!!” Volcamon gestured to the other side of the arena.

Oh… Somehow Daisuke and V-mon’s opponent was a masked dude with a Gomamon partner with a gakuran in his back. But both digimon just gulped at sensing each other’s presence…!?

“Y-you can’t be--!!” Both Buddymon and BanchouGomamon gasped, “W-what are you doing here!?”

“What’s wrong, Bud?” Daisuke whispered to the hooded V-mon. “I think this is… Joe’s Gomamon.” “W-what…?” Daisuke gulped “W-why would they be here…!?”

“Aaa, I think I sprained my leg!!” V-mon said, waving his hands dramatically, “I can’t fight!!”

“Dude are you okay?” Gomamon tilted his head, “Are you--”

The moment Gomamon approached to help V-mon, the sneaky dramatic dragon just grabbed Gomamon by his paw and threw it on the ground, but not with all of his strength!!

“H-HEY!!” Gomamon got up and growled, “WHAT’S WRONG WITH THAT!? I THOUGHT YOU GOT HURT!!”

“Sorry Gomamon, but… My life is on line” V-mon said with a serious and creepy voice tone.

“W-what do ya mean with ‘your life being on line’ ?!” Daisuke squinted his eyes, “We’re here for another reason, dude…!!”

“Well then--!!” Gomamon’s eyes were burning on fire, “I’LL SHOW YOU MY BANCHOU-GOMAMON PUNCH!!”

“BUDDYMON KICK!!”

They started a fight. A real fight. Daisuke and Big J were just watching it in silence. Daisuke discreetly pressed the button on his earpiece, and muttered: “Uh, guys? Gomamon’s here, and I think he and V-mon are just… picking a fight now… Have y’all found anythin’ suspicious?”

“Hmm… Ken-kun is still inspecting the area,” Miyako answered “but his digivice is standing in the same area so far…” “Huh, he hasn't come back yet?” Hikari commented via the communicator. “Not at all…”“Should we go look for him?” Takeru asked. “In this case only Daisuke could be effective, since he’s Ken-kun’s jogress partner…”

“...” Daisuke looked at the catfight between Gomamon and V-mon and shrugged, “Yeah, I’ll have to do it…”

“Do what??” The other four asked.

“HEY, BUDDYMON!! END THIS RIGHT NOW!!” Daisuke shouted.

“That Buddymon is too suspicious” Big J raised an eyebrow, “You can’t let him beat you, BanchouGomamon!!”

Seriously, if you’re Jou what are you plottin’ to do!? -- Daisuke thought, but then he gestured to Volcamon for a break. It was granted, so both humans went there and got them apart.

“W-why did you stop the battle!?” V-mon whispered, but angrily, “I was about to win!!”

“Bad news, V-mon… Something happened to Ken and Wormmon, we have to go…!!”

“Eh!?”

“Oh, are you planning to give up, pal?” Volcamon asked the duo.

“Uh.. Yeah, Buddymon cannot handle BanchouGomamon’s pow--”

“HOLD ON!!” someone unexpectedly appeared in the arena, Daisuke blushed but no one could see it, “I’ll assume things here!!” It was Hikari!? “I, Luka Hikarin and my partner, NinjaTailmon, will fight Big J and BanchouGomamon in Lance-kun and Buddymon’s place!”

“Is that possible!?” The 02 group exclaimed.

“Well, If you think it’s okay to pass the baton to your friend…” Volcamon looked at Daisuke.

“Yeah, go wreck those two for me, Luka-chan” and he grabbed Buddymon and left the arena.

“OH THERE’S A NEW CHALLENGER!!” Volcamon announced, “THE MYSTERIOUS DUO, NINJA-TAILMON AND LUKA HIKARIN!!”

“N-NinjaTailmon!?” Big J and BanchouGomamon exclaimed, fearing for their lives. Tailmon was now dressing like a ninja and stared at them, menacingly.

Meanwhile, Daisuke and V-mon followed the signal of the digivice, while talking to Miyako for directions…!! They reached a corridor with a door at the end of it -- the Janitor’s closed. They opened it, Ken and Wormmon fell on the floor.

“Ken! Wormmon!” Daisuke helped the other to get up, “What were you two inside a clos--”

Ken covered Daisuke’s mouth, and gestured to not make any noise, then he whispered in Daisuke’s ear: “You were right: This is a scam, and a digimon wants to use us as punchbag to get stronger for some reason.”Daisuke clenched his fists… then, they heard Miyako’s screams through the communicator: “Ken-kun, Daisuke!! Hurry up there’s something happening in the arena--!!”
