THE FULL OUTLINE FOR LONELY REMNANTS / CORPSEJUICE IS COMPLETE…. Now to just keep writing the actual damn thing…
I thought it would be eight chapters but it’s going to be twelve if you include the epilogue :,)
Here are the names and songs for each chapter, these are subject to change! If you wanna be completely totally in the dark, I’ll put them in a ‘read more’ so they can be avoided
- Chapter 1 songs: title song (“Ocean Breathes Salty” by Modest Mouse), “Friends In Low Places” by Worthikids, “Go to the Light” by Murder By Death, “Under My Skin” by Jukebox The Ghost, “You’re Dead” by Norma Tanega (for vibes), “Lost” by Amanda Palmer, “Lonesome Town” by Ricky Nelson, “Cut You A Piece” from 35mm, “I Will Always Think of You” from “BoJack Horseman, “Today Today” by Jack Stauber.

Fun With Fics
Rules: Pick any ten of your fics, scroll roughly to the midpoint, pick a line (or three) and share it. Then tag ten people.
(I got tagged a while back and just remembered, lol. I am using a random number generator to pick the fics for this)
Single Parenting 101.
Jaime knew he should allow her some privacy, but he couldn’t resist peeking at the phone to see the girl—Brienne’s daughter, who looked to be around eight or nine. She was also Renly Baratheon’s daughter as she was the spitting image of him, except for her eyes. Renly’s were a bluish-green, whereas this girl’s were just like her mother’s.
2. Christmas Wrapping.
Trust Renly to bring ultrasound pics on a boat outing. He probably had fifty copies in case he lost a few.
Renly plopped down beside her again and thrust them at her. “Aren’t they gorgeous?”
Brienne stared at them, wishing she could think anything besides they look like alien life forms, what the hell. Renly rattled on about 3D technology enabling them to get lifelike images, and didn’t she think that baby A—the girl—looked like Loras, while baby B—the boy—looked like he was going to have Renly’s chin?
3. Single Dad Dating 102.
Jaime held the door for Brienne as she walked into Martyn’s, then took her coat and was rewarded by the sight of the back of the blue blouse she’d changed into after Maggy was gone. The front, which all he’d seen because of the coat, was relatively modest, but dipped low in the back, revealing her back, covered with freckles.
He rather liked them.
4. they don't know about the things we do.
Jaime wonders if he should suggest that they finally tell people about them. It probably won’t deter Renly from trying to interfere with their lunches, but if they go public and Brienne puts her foot down, then maybe…
He won’t deny that he’s enjoyed the cat-and-mouse game of keeping their friends from finding out, but a growing part of him wants to be acknowledged as Brienne’s boyfriend.
5. you who know what love is.
Brienne Tarth would never be beautiful, or pretty, or even considered handsome. Despite the perfection of her dress, her looks remained as they always were. But after she made her curtsey to King Rhaegar and Queen Elia, both of whom smiled approvingly at her, she walked through the throng of people in the ballroom looking like a goddess, her strength coupled with her now evident femininity making her the love child of the Warrior and the Maiden.
6. Trust Me with You.
She lowered her hands and tried to work up the courage to ask if she could see him. But almost as if he heard her, he shrugged out of his suit jacket and dropped it to the floor. His fingers went to his vest and made quick work of the six buttons, then his tie. It wasn’t until he started unbuttoning his white dress shirt that Brienne noticed that his fingers were trembling.
7. and we could be enough.
Jaime turned to help with the task and a moment later, a snowball smacked him in the back of the head.
“Unfair, wench!” he shouted, but Brienne was not behind him as he thought. He looked to see who might have done it, but the only person there was Sansa, smiling at him innocently with her hands tucked behind her back before she nodded and walked away.
Jaime supposed he deserved that. He tried not to smile as he helped with the cleanup.
8. but no one knows it's only me.
It shouldn’t be possible. Jaime’s done a great deal of research in the eight years since he took over being the Librarian, and there’s never been a single instance of a superhero being able to use telekinesis by remote. Even Tyrion has to physically go to his location to be able to use his power, and he’s the most powerful telekinetic on record.
By the time she’s finished, Joanna’s face is deathly pale, her eyes are dull, and she sways on her feet. Jaime scoops her up and sits on the couch, holding her tightly.
9. Reprise.
The video starts with the usual hysterical screaming. Jaime stands there with a sad smile on his face as he waits for the fans to settle. Then he begins playing. He doesn’t try to do too much with it, doesn’t turn it into something wild or funky or discordant. He just stands there and plays her song, eyes lowered to his guitar as though he’s alone rather than in front of thousands of fans who are mostly silent as he plays, until the final note dies away and they scream in ecstasy.
Brienne struggles to breathe as she stares at the screen, now frozen on the enigmatic look on Jaime’s face after he raised his head to the crowd. She looks over at him now, and she knows he knows what she’s just seen.
10. there seems to have been some disturbance here.
“Is there a particular moment you want me to interrupt? Are they going for the traditional cloaking and vows to the Seven ceremony?”
Galladon snorts. “Of course not. That’s what Brienne wanted, but Hyle felt that that was too paganistic. They’re going for the modern revised Ceremony of the Seven.”
“So I should show up right after the septon asks if someone has an objection?” Might as well go for the most melodramatic moment of the whole ceremony.
LOL! Mostly the smaller stuff came up--let's hear it for the random number generator! I think the links work. If all else fails, you can find me at cardinalgirl75 on AO3.

MUN QUESTIONS.
Q1 : If you could write your character your way in their own movie, what would it be called, what style would it be filmed in, and what would it be about? A1 : Possibly some Treasure planet type romp with Wes Anderson type humor/cinematography and probably steampunk thrown in. I honestly don’t have much of an idea.
Q2 : What would their soundtrack/score sound like? A2 : Modest mouse with other odd smatterings thrown in, I’ve started a playlist on spotify
Q3 : Why did you start writing this character? A3 : He’s particularly new as my characters go, actually, just about a year old, started him in fall/winter of 2018, started attempting to rp him at the turn of the year I think.
Q4 : What first attracted you to this character? A4 : He’s so goddamn normal I thought it was funny. He’s not got any magical powers, he has a shitty backstory but it’s pretty bland comparatively, all he’s got to get by on is whether he can charm people and he’s not got much confidence in that. So now he’s the basically the one normal guy surrounded by immortals and magic and warriors. Also it was an excuse to actually put my crafting knowledge to use as he’s a merchant that deals quite a bit in weaving and carpentry. Q5 : Describe the biggest thing you dislike about your muse. A5 : Well, he’s pretty fucking normal isn’t he? Sometimes I wonder if he’s just too boring for anyone to particularly care about. I’ve always cared more for the ‘odd man out’ characters in series, but I perhaps I was in a small minority there. Q6 : What do you have in common with your muse? A6 : We both short as hell, five foot fuck you. Also crafting, always making something. Q7 : How does your muse feel about you? A7 : He’d probably offer me a drink and condolences, hah Q8 : What characters does your muse have interesting interactions with? A8 : All characters have something interesting to them, I like to think Ruhka’s a way for them to get there, he’s got bit character mcguffin energy. But for him to have an interesting interaction, it usually comes down to humor, and he’s particularly easy to fluster. Q9 : What gives you inspiration to write your muse? A9 : Redemption, I guess. Still being worth something even if you aren’t anything more than normal. Q10 : How long did this take you to complete? A10 : Fuck, idk, an hour?

--> Lies, Lies, Lies - A Playlist for Sonia and Eddie <--
I’ve wanted to make this for a long time, and finally had the emotional energy for it today. This is... the most satisfying thing I’ve ever made. The goal was to craft a sort of rock opera about Sonia and Eddie’s relationship, to chronicle his journey from being in her clutches, realizing the reality of his situation, and then finally overcoming her abusive influence.
Keep reading for some embarrassingly thorough track meta:
1. Birds vs. Worms by Modest Mouse
This is the intro song because of the imagery of birds eating worms, with the birds as predators and the worms as helpless victims. After his arm is broken, Eddie specifically calls his mother’s eyes predatory, like the Leper’s, and then thinks “she’s only eating me because she loves me” in his delirious state.
2. Rebellion (Lies) by Arcade Fire
The lies adults/parents tell their children so they will behave and follow the rules, for their ‘protection’ or to cover up secrets, only end up being damaging and in the long run cause mistrust and defiance. Also the line about closing your eyes, repeated over and over, can symbolize Eddie’s denial at this point in time, as he actually believes what his mother tells him and refuses to see that it’s all lies.
3. No One Will Ever Love You by The Magnetic Fields
This one is more from Sonia’s point of view, commenting on Eddie’s passivity and kindness, and accusing him of not fulfilling the ‘dream’ (having a family, being a mother) that she ‘paid dearly for’ (by losing Frank). And when things go wrong, she ‘sings’ her lies, but Eddie needs to be there to make her false tears and ‘sad songs’ seem sincere, since he believes her every time. Finally, she assures him that no one will ever love him honestly (the way she does).
4. Mother by Pink Floyd
Horribly self-explanatory... ‘Mother’ is Eddie begging for Sonia’s approval, because his fear has been so well conditioned that he asks her opinion and advice and knows her response will keep him safely inside his comfort zone. She will put all her fears into him and keep him under wing - ‘she won’t let you fly, but she might let you sing’ being particularly depressing... Sonia won’t let Eddie run, she will never let him be free, but she will let him talk about his dreams knowing full well she will never let them become reality. She will literally help build a wall around him, too high for him to escape from later.
On top of all of that, this song also brings love into it - Sonia seeing Richie as not good enough, as dangerous, as a bad influence who can’t love Eddie like she does. She ‘won’t let anyone dirty get through’ and will keep him ‘healthy and clean’ by preventing him from living his truth and pursuing what, or who, makes him happy.
5. Rabbit Will Run by Iron & Wine
Rabbit Will Run is, like Iron & Wine’s songs always are, full of symbolism and lofty imagery. It’s no The Trapeze Swinger (I’ll go off about that one at a later date), but it’s such a good Eddie song anyway... it has mother imagery, her watching over him, ‘protecting him’. It has running imagery coupled with intense instrumentals, and also the vaguely religious symbolism that fits him so well. Guilt follows him throughout the lyrics, and though he has prayers they do not help, though he wants to run it turns out futile, and though his mother seems to offer comfort, she only makes the guilt worse. By the end of the song, he accepts his guilt and ‘badness’ without ever really identifying what it was he was guilty for or running from.
6. The Wanting Comes In Waves / Repaid by The Decemberists
OKAY THIS IS THE TURNING POINT, the greatest Sonia and Eddie song to ever exist (besides Dear Wormwood). This comes from The Decemberists’ rock opera and is a conversation between The Forest Queen and her ‘son’ William, who she rescued from the human world as a child and kept isolated in the forest. He falls in love and wants to leave her, so she accuses him of being ungrateful and that his ‘repayment’ for all she’s done for him is selfish. Sound familiar?
So in this song, Eddie is finally confronting his mother about giving him more freedom to be himself. He acknowledges that she wants to keep him safe from ‘the world of men’ but his desire to explore remains, and he (stupidly) thinks that her love for him will make her take pity on him. But her response is to accuse him of being ungrateful, of hurting her despite all the labor she’s gone through to protect him and keep him healthy and safe. Like, how dare he repay her by wanting more than the love she gives him?? He begs her to give him the freedom to pursue his desires but promises to return to her, because as his mother she owes him the chance to really live. She gives in, but it’s just another manipulation tactic - she will give him freedom tonight, and she’ll take him back in the morning, but then he’s hers forever.
(Sidenote: this is the friggin theme song for my Little Mermaid AU I swear!!)
7. Hang Me Up To Dry by Cold War Kids
This song starts out with a sort of reminder of Eddie’s time with the Losers, playing carelessly in the summer and getting dirty but not caring about it. But it quickly devolves into Sonia aggressively sanitizing him of those experiences, wringing him out and hanging him to dry until he’s pure again, perfectly white and innocent the way she wants him.
Following their conversation in the previous track, Eddie’s not having this shit anymore... he knows exactly what she’s doing, and this song is his challenge to her - telling her that he knows her whole deal and he’s tired of it. At this point in the story, her voice disappears and all that is left is for Eddie to come to terms with this new understanding of their relationship.
8. Wake Up by Arcade Fire
At this point, Eddie is just dealing with the knowledge that his relationship with his mother has been built on lies and manipulation. He feels empty and lost, but in spite of his newfound understanding, he still feels guilty for the way things went down instead of blaming her. But although he’s feeling shitty about it, he’s still coming through the other side stronger, deciding on his own terms to be adaptable and take control of his own life. So this anthem starts out kind of sad, but it builds into a more uplifting tune - Eddie is awake now (throwback to him symbolically keeping his eyes closed in ‘Rebellion’), he sees where he’s going for the first time because no one else is there to decide his path for him, and he’s ready to fuck shit up.
9. Synthetica by Metric
At this point in the story, Eddie is taking control of his life, and feeling happy with it and stronger than he ever has. He’s throwing out the fabricated, wind-up doll persona that Sonia created for him, and finally finding himself. He realizes that he has an inner strength that no pills or medication could ever silence, because he’s not sick, and he’s stronger than any drug Sonia might push on him. Most importantly, he’s decisively thinking for himself now, and not allowing any more manipulation from her or anyone else.
10. Dear Wormwood by The Oh Hellos
The grand finale, THE Sonia and Eddie song, which I have listened to five thousand times and have cried about... way too often. I see this song as Eddie’s good-bye letter to his mother. It’s sad, and bittersweet, because he does love her, and he pities her, but he knows he’s better off without her in his life. Mostly, he wants her to know that he sees her for what she is now, and doesn’t forgive her, as much as he might understand her.
In the first verse, he tells her that he knows his fears were created by her, and that she taught him to view his dreams and beliefs as silly and pointless, only because she wanted him to hide away with her. Then, in the second verse, he tells her that he knows she was always there, waiting for him to display any sort of weakness or faulty courage, just so she could say ‘I told you so’ and come to his rescue. He knows now that it was all manipulation, that she taught him passivity not as means of protection, but because she was selfish and self-serving. He sat and dreamed but couldn’t act on his dreams out of fear, which is exactly the kind of person he was never really meant to be.
Finally, he tells her that she’s always in his mind, poisoning his thoughts, but that he understands her. This verse is especially sad, because you can hear the pity in the lyrics - he sees her as sad and pathetic, and is point blank refusing to be a part of her delusions anymore. And here is where the chorus of ‘I know who you are now’ changes to ‘I know who I am now’, because Eddie needs her to know that he has found himself, and that his confidence won’t be shaken by her anymore. He’s aware of all the damage she’s done, and he’s working on overcoming it and becoming the person he wants to be - but in order to do that, he needs to cut her out of his life.
The closing line, ‘I want to be more than this devil inside of me’, is symbolic of two key features in Eddie’s growth arc. The devil could be Sonia, and the line could be about overcoming her influence alone, and moving beyond her ‘plan’ for him. But this line could also be referring to the consistent theme in the novel of Eddie feeling wrong, or bad, that he’s bound for Hell - and he’s deciding here to let those feelings go. He’s silencing his mother’s voice AND ALSO purging himself of those dirty and wrong feelings, just as he did when he died in Richie’s arms. Though in this story, he doesn’t need to die to realize he’s strong and good on his own, he heals EARLY with both arms intact.
SOOO yeah THE END.
I sort of want to write a fic to go with this, but the emotional labor that would involve... idk, maybe someday.

MUSIC MONDAYS:
A series where I recommend a book, review it, and create a short playlist to give a sense of what the book is about.
This review may contain spoilers.
Disclaimer: I received a copy via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
This week’s feature is a book that I almost gave up on. I read the first couple of chapters and I was worried about where the story would take me, so I was 80% sold on DNFing That Night by Amy Giles. However, I caved and broke one of my reading rules: I looked at the synopsis and the rating on Goodreads. While I admit that sometimes this decision can backfire, reading the synopsis helped ease my worries and the rating (while not always accurate) was another push towards reading Giles’s newest book.
I’m so happy I didn’t give up on That Night.
That Night not only handles the tricky subject of grief, but the even more dark and timely topic of grief following a mass shooting. Jessica and Lucas, the split narrators of this Young Adult novel, both are grieving the losses of their brothers. But while Lucas has found a potential outlet and has an extremely overprotective mother as a result of the shooting, Jessica is left on her own. She loses both her best friend and brother and is left to deal with her depressed mother. When the two meet, they realize that they can help each other survive their grief and their friendship quickly evolves into something that gives hope and light to their dark stories.
When I finally let myself fall for these characters, I couldn’t get enough of them. Jess’s story was tragic and I kept hoping for something better for her. I wanted her mother to see that Jess was still there. I wanted her to try for her daughter and seeing her physically being unable to overcome her grief was so heart breaking. The complicated story of Jess and her mother added an all too realistic touch to the story because it’s not uncommon for a parent to be swallowed by their grief. Jess herself made a comment in the book that reflected on how difficult it was for her to lose a brother, but that the pain of losing a son must have been even more unimaginable.
Lucas, on the other hand, has the exact opposite problem from Jess. While he suffers from the idea that he was the wrong brother to live, his parents are the perfect example of when caring crosses a line. From hiding car keys, to smothering behaviour, Lucas’s mother is another realistic example of how a parent might overcompensate when they lose a child. But while Lucas acknowledges that he is at times frustrated with his mom’s actions, he’s also pretty calm about it.
Rather than having similar grieving experiences, Giles explores the complexities of loss. With these two characters, we’re given glimpses into two different but realistic forms of grief.
Grief is handled very delicately in this book, but at the same time, it’s dealt with heavy doses of reality. There are no dramatizations, there are no fights that leave the parents wounded enough for the child to feel guilty over their lashing out, and there are no over-the-top decisions being made. One of the big reasons for why Giles handles this topic so well is because of her comprehensive understanding of communication and its importance.
Communication is, in my honest opinion, something that is usually lacking in a lot of books that explore heavier topics. Where Giles succeeds in her new book is that she has her characters communicate. If there is a misunderstanding, it is quickly cleared up. One person’s confusion and suffering isn’t a quiet thing and it isn’t a plot device. Whether it’s between Lucas and Jess, or Lucas and his parents, or the pair and their friends--there is communication. The story has a goal for its readers and it is not the act of miscommunication.
Another notable thing that Giles does with That Night is how true she remains to the main topic of the novel. In seeking a way to make the story “refreshing” or “memorable”, sometimes an author writes a narrative that’s a little dramatic (or a lot dramatic) and at times, the topic of grief is set to the side for the better selling genre: romance. Giles does not do this with That Night. Sure, there’s romance but it’s not the main topic, it’s a side event to show us how the characters are growing and how they’re recovering.
That being said, going back to the issue of communication, I have to say I’m impressed. There were so many opportunities for Lucas and Jess to fight big time over certain situations. But because they had this connection and honesty between the two of them, they both spoke openly about what they were struggling with (even if it took longer for one of them to open up more). Reading about their love and relationship was refreshing and I’m grateful to have experienced it.
That Night deals with a heavy subject matter, but the characters’ growth, the lessons learned, and the masterful storytelling makes Giles’s novel a worthwhile read that I recommend to everyone who wants to be touched by a good story.
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Age Recommendation: 14+

The Playlist & Why I Chose this Music:
1. You Found Me by The Fray
I think of Jess while I listen to this song. The near-pleading nature of the song makes me think of her desperation while her mom is struggling with depression. Before and even during parts of her relationship with Lucas, Jess feels very alone in her grief, so the lyrics “Where were you?” repeated over and over again is especially poignant.
2. Tragedy + Time by Rise Against
I picture both Jess and Lucas sitting at the beach together during the anniversary of their brothers’ deaths and reminiscing on the memories they have while listening to this song. Almost like an end-credit scene song.
3. Beauty From Pain by Superchick
This song is such a beautiful example of how grief can cause so much pain, but how we start healing as the days go by. Jess acknowledges that her dreams have changed now that she’s gone through so much after that tragic night. The same can be said for Lucas. His hopes and dreams are different, but it’s not an ugly thing--it’s just something different.
4. Trust in You by Lauren Daigle
Putting aside that this is apparently a Christian song, I like to think of these lyrics more for how Jess and Lucas’s relationship forms. There’s a connection of trust that these characters share that is incredibly refreshing in a YA novel.
5. Happiness is Not A Place by The Wind and The Wave
Lucas was a bit hesitant with his emotions because of the stress the romance might bring. His grief is heavily burdened with anxiety and panic attacks and he learns that even positive emotions can amp up your stress levels. This is something that Lucas needs to work on for himself and allow himself to be happy.
6. Float On by Modest Mouse
Lucas has a friend who speaks his mind and doesn’t have that sympathy-filter that he encounters nearly every time someone finds out who he is. While some of the lyrics obviously don’t work for this book, the easy going vibe and the positive chorus makes me think of that character.
7. Just You and I by Tom Walker
This song is perfect for Jess and Lucas. So perfect--especially the chorus and the first half of the song. It perfectly illustrates the support system they grow between each other, and how their unfortunately similar experiences brings them together.
8. A Song For Mama by Boyz II Men
I normally don’t pick an eighth song for these playlists, but I absolutely had to pick a song for moms. Despite their vastly different experiences with their mothers, Lucas and Jess have incredibly strong bonds with their moms. The women play a huge role in their grieving.
Have you read this book yet? Would you recommend it?
Happy reading!

If you could be anywhere else right now, where? Walking around and visiting every coffee shop in Tucson. Just to have one drink at each place while checking out the locals.
What was your coolest Halloween costume? I stopped dressing for Halloween years ago as a kid. Around teenagehood I realized I only use the day as an excuse to get drunk and threw away any pretense of costumes.
What’s your favorite ‘90s show? Rocko’s Modern Life. What a surreal experience that entire adventure was. I can’t even really remember a distinct episode, they all just blur into some one brightly colored animated experience. I’ve always liked cartoons and not in that “Oh animation can also be high brow and talk about important issues blah blah blah” nonsense people like to say. Fast, loud and obnoxious; the only way I took my television as a kid. GI Joe, Daria (okay that one is the polar opposite but deal with me please) and Pokemon were also good ones.

Science Book Roundup, Social Distancing Edition
When I posted my last science book roundup, few of us knew what was about to come. We had heard about a novel coronavirus and an outbreak of a new disease called COVID-19 in China, but only those well-versed in epidemiology or the history of previous pandemics expected to see so much of the economy shut down as we practice a previously unknown form of interaction called social distancing. Perhaps as a result, I have only heard from a handful of publicists with requests for reviews, and I offer four of them for my readers’ consideration. They have a common thread, namely that they deal with organisms, human, terrestrial, and otherwise.
We will get to those books shortly, but first “a word from our sponsor.” My usual caveat: For my Roundups, I don’t read all of the books in detail, but they are published by reputable publishers and written by credible authors. I browse them enough to recommend who might want to pick them up from a library or bookstore shelf.
My usual request: Because freelance book review opportunities have almost disappeared, I now rely on Amazon referral fees to cover the cost of maintaining my online presence. If you are inclined to buy any of these books from Amazon, please use the links here so I can get a small referral fee. Another way to thank me is to click my portal to Amazon for whatever shopping you plan to do. I get reports of what people buy but not who is buying, so I will not be able to say thanks. But please know that I am grateful.
Did you catch that “otherwise” in the opening paragraph? If you know my science books for young readers, then you probably are aware of my strong interest in planetary science, including Astrobiology, the science of life on other worlds. Astrobiology takes many forms, but probably the one that generates most interest among general readers is SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. In a galaxy as vast as our Milky Way, it seems highly unlikely that Earth is the only planet on which intelligent beings, capable of sending signals outside of their world, have evolved. And if that is the case, why have we never detected a signal from any one of them?
The short answer seems to be that with hundreds of billions of stars to choose from, we simply have not sampled enough to find any of a handful of needle-in-a-haystack worlds. Perhaps, some SETI researchers suggest, we should deliberately send out a message and see if anyone answers. That is the starting point for British author Keith Cooper in
The Contact Paradox: Challenging Our Assumptions in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. The back cover describes the book this way: “(T)he act of transmitting raises troubling questions about the process of contact…. Cooper looks at how far SETI has come since its modest beginnings by speaking to the leading names in the field and beyond. SETI forces us to confront our nature in a way that we seldom have before–where did we come from, where are we going, and who are we in the cosmic context of things? The book considers the assumptions that we make in our search for extraterrestrial life, and explains how those assumptions can teach us about ourselves.”
Moving from the far reaches of the galaxy to the innermost element of human life, University of Cambridge and Caltech biology and bioengineering professor Magdalena Zernicka-Goetz joins noted British science writer Roger Highfield to explore
The Dance of Life: The New Science of How A Single Cell Becomes a Human Being.
The publisher describes the book as “A renowned biologist’s cutting-edge and unconventional examination of human reproduction and embryo research.” It also includes an account of Zernicka-Goetz’s own pregnancy, in which a sample test of placental cells showed a possible genetic abnormality. She continued the pregnancy to term and delivered a perfectly healthy baby boy. The experience led her research in a different direction, including an understanding of the ways embryos can, in some cases, repair their own defects, which could revolutionize our understanding of pregnancy and give new promise to in vitro fertilization.
The publicity copy notes the following: “Scientists have long struggled to make pregnancy easier, safer, and more successful. In The Dance of Life, developmental and stem-cell biologist Magdalena Zernicka-Goetz takes us to the front lines of efforts to understand the creation of a human life. She has spent two decades unraveling the mysteries of development, as a simple fertilized egg becomes a complex human being of forty trillion cells. Zernicka-Goetz’s work is both incredibly practical and astonishingly vast: her groundbreaking experiments with mouse, human, and artificial embryo models give hope to how more women can sustain viable pregnancies. Set at the intersection of science’s greatest powers and humanity’s greatest concern, The Dance of Life is a revelatory account of the future of fertility–and life itself.”
In a different look at human evolution, British science writer and broadcaster Gaia Vince goes beyond biology to other forces that drove our development to become the dominant species on Earth. It is not merely evolution, but
Transcendence: How Humans Evolved Through Fire, Language, Beauty, and Time. The dust jacket copy describes what sets this book apart: “Although prevailing theory holds that a recent cognitive revolution transformed humans, Vince argues that we are the product of a unique coevolution of our genes, environment, and culture. Beginning hundreds of thousands of years ago, with four key drivers–fire, language, beauty, and time–it set our species on a new path, unleashing a compounding process that propelled us from the Stone Age to the Space Age and continues to transform us today. Provocative and poetic,… it asks: Now that we have remade our world, what are we doing to ourselves?”
The final book in our roundup is certainly the most unusual. The paperback original
The Gyroscope of Life: Understanding Balances (and Imbalances) in Nature by David Parrish, an Appalachian naturalist and 50-year practitioner. The back cover notes call it “A love song to the field of biology [that] will stretch the minds of readers–scientists and nonscientists alike.”
Its main theme is this: “Culturally, we tend to simplify challenging concepts by thinking of them as binary systems: life/death, female/male. But what if these concepts are more complex than mere opposites…. While sharing his personal experiences with religion, science, battling illness, and more, Parrish explores a series of unconventional topics such as a biologists credo, Mother Nature’s House Rules, the foolishness of conflicts between science and religion, ritualistic funerary cannibalism, a biological critique of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ theme song, pseudo-copulation of insects with flowers, and the Faustian bargain that agriculture and plant domestication represent.”
If you think that describes a bit of a hodge-podge, you are probably right. That doesn’t make it a bad book, but you need to be the right kind of reader to enjoy it. The sections I sampled seemed disjointed with interesting tidbits scattered throughout. Are all those diversions necessary? If you are the type of reader who enjoys discovering information that way, then this is a book for you. Just be prepared to be jolted by “too much information” at times, such as the author’s choice to open the chapter called “Male or Female?” by describing himself as “castrate” (for valid medical readers). For me, it seemed to distract rather than inform or serve as a thread to tie up the chapter. You may respond differently, or as some people say, your mileage may vary.
I’ll close with a wish for your good health as we all face a historic pandemic. I can’t predict when I will have another roundup to offer. If I’m lucky, some publicists will return to their offices, read this blog, and decide to offer me science books to share with you in the next few months.
Blogger and reviewer Fred Bortz is the author of numerous science books for young readers.
A request from the blogger: Please let me know you appreciated this posting by adding a comment or sending an email with your thoughts to [email protected] . Many thanks!

By question:
zodiac: what’s their sign? does it influence theirpersonality? do they care about astrology?
Egeire Mahariel & Egeria “Ria” Surana:
As Egeire is a derivative of Egeria and Egeria is originally aSelf Insert, both are born in the twelfth month, known as Cassusor Haring. Unfortunately if I ever nailed down a date fortheir birthday/s I absolutely cannot find it.They very likelystill both fall in the range for Sagittarius, though. I don’t thinkit terribly influences their personalities, though I am very biasedby years of being umimpressed with the common astrology babble of“Sagittarius is an extrovert who loves adventures and excitementand is changeable and spontaneous!!1!!1“ Ria would probably payastrology no mind and Egeire would probably mostly do the same but heis also absolutely the type to lowkey look up sign compatibility withpeople he gets crushes on.
In the Chinese zodiac, they were both born in 9:08 I believe, which if you translate that straight as 908, means they’re EarthDragons. I… think.
Soveliss Liadon:
yeah I’ve got 0 idea when Sov was born. soz fam. if it becomesimportant to his backstory or if aub develops any Cool Year Info NShit maybe I will figure that out but honestly I never come up withcharacter birthdays until it comes up. which is not often. I don’teven have any real vibes for seasons they all seem Fine.
shooting star: if your OC(s) could have one wish whatwould it be?
Egeire Mahariel
Perhaps… peace, or maybe life depending on the timeframe. Peacebeing the ability to be cured of the Taint in his blood and live alife that makes him happy with the people who make him happy.Alternatively, life– namely, Tamlen’s. He feels guilty aboutTamlen’s death for a long time. Even if Tamlen isn’t his…Egeire wants his friend to live a full life and die a death not inagony.
(Egeire’s wish for peace extends to any Warden Egeire AU, but inWAW!AU imagine his life wish expanding. it would probably take quitesome rules-lawyering to keep it from being disastrous, but what ifEgeire could undo so much sorrow? Tamlen lives, and so does anybodyfrom Clan Sabrae who might have perished in the Blight. The Circle isnot ravaged, and so many mages who were locked behind heavy doors andleft to die have a second chance at life. Hundreds of soldiers, lostat Ostagar and beyond, return home to family and loved ones.Consultation is probably needed to keep his tongue from erring intosomething unwise, but what if the past year did not need to be soakedin so much grief? And, well… he has plenty of role modelsfor ambitious goals, now.
Royals AU Egeire would consider it, and… honestly find hedoesn’t want for much. He is happy with Denoreth, and unlike theother royals AU, this Egeire is not as scarred by Cyrron beforeCyrron is eliminated from his life. His training with Cyrron isultimately what allows him to keep Denoreth safe, in fact, and evenDen likes watching him fight. so Egeire would probably just wish forsomething like eternal prosperity upon both their kingdoms or somesuch.
Fugitives AU Egeire probably has an interesting wish: A life wherehe is never taken and broken by Cyrron, but still gets to meet andend up happy with Denoreth like he is now, without the trauma.Failing that, the follow-ups would be erasing the aftereffects ofsaid trauma, or him and Denoreth having a life of comfort where theynever have to struggle to get by again, like they did when they firstfled their past lives)
Egeria Surana
I think the big thing that would address a lot of Ria’s hurts inlife would be equality; if elves and mages and non-Andrastians wereon even footing with humans (etc), maybe then she and those who comeafter her wouldn’t have to worry about mages (some of themso young) leaping from high windows or choosing Tranquility, and elves wouldn’t suffer in alienages, and she would not feel socaught on a tightrope between Warden and elfmagegirl, the latter ofwhich also becomes a real threat to her relationship with Alistair. It is a gigantic scale wish, but it’s one concept, and itwould likely be hers.
Post-Inquisition, the wish she makes probably wouldn’tchange… but honestly, on the inside, she just wants Alistair backfrom the Fade.
Soveliss Liadon
There are two major angles Sov can wish for: past and future. Onthe one hand, he could have everything he lost back. The monks couldlive again, he could have a home, they could perhaps reconcile, andhe could spend like a week straight just crying and holding onto eachand every one of them for dear life.
But on the other hand, there is the future. There is him as anadventurer, a warlock, and a traveling acolyte. For the future, hiswish would likely be power. Knowledge, magic, and control farbeyond his current comprehension. With enough magic he could protectwhat few things he still cares about, and fulfill his duties toKelemvor in protecting others and striking down undead. With enoughmagic, he might not feel so small compared to his patron, though hewould not be able to fathom being on equal footing (or being morepowerful than?) his dear patron, an archfey. With enough magic… hecould perhaps bring his family of monks back himself, or at least putthem to rest so they no longer haunt the halls of the monastery. Sogiven the choice, Soveliss would probably wish for magic, power, andknowledge.
What could possibly go wrong?
Under the cut: mixtape & fragrance
mixtape: 5 songs that describe your OC(s) or songsthey themselves would like
Answeredhere for normal Egeire, Egeria, and Soveliss.
Royals AU Egeire:
1. “TheBest Is Yet To Come” - Frank Sinatra (once Egeire and Denorethfinally get to the point of being in love… things are reallylooking up)
2. “I Lived” - OneRepublic (being very suddenly thrown into an arranged marriage feels a bit like being thrown to the wolves, but perhaps by the end of everything, he will have finally lived a life of his own choosing.)
3. “Collide” - Howie Day (tentative, sweeter love song for boys gettin’ to know each other)
4. “Float On” - Modest Mouse (chill song about carrying on through setbacks, bc hey that’s p much all Eg can do at this point)
5. “Any Way You Want It” - Journey (surprise most of this AU rn is young princes falling in love and holding onto themselves despite the politics as much as possible)
Fugitives AU Egeire:
1. “TheOnly Exception” - Paramore (Egeire learned from Cyrron thatlove was fickle and fleeting and led only to hell and heartbreak, andDenoreth had figured out pretty quickly that getting attached topeople was a fool’s errand, but…)
2. “Be OK”- Ingrid Michaelson (Poor tol has spent so long being torn topieces and scrambled and he just… wants to have the partsof himself he lost back)
3. “Field of Innocence” - Evanescence (The sadder half of the above coin. Flip-flopping between wanting to Be OK again and just wanting to go back to before he was ever hurt.)
4. “Jump the Fence” - Mother Mother (Fleeing and freedom and not necessarily goodness, only looking out for themselves and going straight back to merc work and profiting (surviving) off of doing richer bastards’ dirty work)
5. “Give Me A Sign” - Breaking Benjamin (Just. Boys gotta hold onto each other and try to keep each other together through financial struggling and moral conflict and internalized shit and the scars will remain but they can too.)
Bonus: “Home”- Phillip Phillips (could apply to both AUs, really. everything is uncertain- and inFugitives AU especially even terrifying- but they will have a home. This new place will be home, one day.)
fragrance: what do your OCs smell like?
Egeire Mahariel:
Canon/WAW: Leather and sweat typically, from being out on the road, often with some measure of blood. When they get to Vigil’s Keep and there’s room for fancy soaps and shit, he would probably be particular to pine or herbal scents or smth.
Royals: really it’s going to be like soap and scented oil rubbed into his hair or halla and sweat and there’s not a whole lot of in-between
Fugitives: When Denoreth first meets him, it is the light, almost undetectable scent of salt water and ocean breeze. This lingers through most of their encounters, at varying degrees of intensity, until they make their break for it– that day is just sweat and fear, ironically as they are surrounded by the real sea and eventually have their final confrontation with Cyrron. After that, Egeire never smells of the ocean again. He likes apple and water lily and honey scented soaps, and the smell of flowers often lingers on him when he leaves his room. He also specifically keeps unscented soap around for when they’re working.
Egeria Surana:
Scents don’t cling to her much. Soap and books if anything, in the Circle. Sweat on the road. Likes flowery soaps once she can get her hands on them. Still only lingers for so long, though.
Soveliss Liadon:
Pre-adventuring Sov mostly smelled like old, old books and incense. Adventuring Sov probably smells of pretty little considering he is extremely ready and willing to basically prestidigitate off layers of skin to keep himself fairly clean. Dusk of the New Morning Soveliss probably smelled like dust and food, while Here There Be Kerbolds Soveliss (aka current Sov which is absolutely getting a The Adventure Zone reference name bc of the Abraca-Fuck-You quote) probably smells like either linen or faintly of swamp (bc grumblegrumble it takes /so much prestidigitation/ to get swamp water out and he’s probably still going to have to wash so much shit after this is over).
#oracleanswers#mossandrock#Egeire Mahariel#Egeria Surana#Soveliss Liadon#one day I will be able to come up with my own one-liners but in the meantime fuck it let's just kill the table with quotes#also just imagine the au in which WAW Egeire can't rules-lawyer that wish to perfection#and he is offered a choice#either a smaller scale wish#or he gets everything he wants: everyone lives#people have their loved ones back#and the timeline is reshaped in a way so as to not be broken#but he trades his own life for it#:)#and then one day Tamaris wakes up with the feeling that something is off and goes to their office#to find their desk covered in letters from their friends making fun of their latest political speech and asking after Kieran#Denoreth wakes up to his lovers in his bed - a Dalish elf and an Antivan assassin#but both of these men are blond and that Dalish elf's markings look /incomplete/ and when Denoreth is confused#his lovers - Tamlen and Zevran - are just as confused back at him#and Kylare is told that she and Tamlen went through the Blight together#'Egeire... we lost your brother at the cave lethallan- don't you remember?'#'he... when we saw him again during the blight- he was- you... you were the one to... it was all we could do'#can they get Egeire back? is he gone forever? haha who knows depends on the AU you want I guess#but fun times!#[confetti popper intensifies]

How Princess Diana Is Helping Prince William and Kate Middleton Raise Their Children
New Post has been published on https://harryandmeghan.xyz/how-princess-diana-is-helping-prince-william-and-kate-middleton-raise-their-children/
How Princess Diana Is Helping Prince William and Kate Middleton Raise Their Children
Asked to extrapolate the type of grandparent his late mom, Princess Diana, would have been, Prince William gave a surprising answer.
“She’d be a nightmare grandmother, absolute nightmare,” he quipped in the 2017 ITV and HBO documentary, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy. Sure, the former nursery school teacher would have loved Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 3, “to bits,” said the royal. (At this point Prince Louis was still nine months away from making his appearance.) But she’d be so taken with her little ones that she’d indulge their every whim, he speculated. “She’d come in probably at bath time, cause an amazing…scene, bubbles everywhere, bathwater all over the place, and then leave.”
Her style certainly left a mark on her eldest heir. When Diana gave birth to her future king in 1982, her insistence on hands-on parenting was seen as revolutionary. After all, a newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II left young kids Prince Charles and Princess Anne in the care of his grandparents and household staff to embark on a six-month tour of the Commonwealth shortly after her coronation. And her decisions to let them wear jeans and baseball caps and eat McDonald’s hamburgers, while not express defiance of any sort of rule, were certainly not the done thing.
Now the 36-year-old and his wife Kate Middleton, 36, are following in her trailblazing footsteps. While the pair certainly abide by many royal traditions—today, after all, 11-week-old Louis was baptized at St. James’s Palace wearing a replica of the intricate lace and satin dress made for Queen Victoria‘s eldest daughter in 1841, the same outfit his older siblings donned—they’re keen to give their tiny heirs a life outside the gilded walls of Kensington Palace. “They feel it’s important to make them aware of their backgrounds,” a source told Us Weekly. But it’s also “vital” for their kids—third, fourth and fifth in line for the British throne, respectively—”to have as much normalcy in their lives as possible.”
So far, they feel they’ve struck just the right balance. As William told BBC News in 2016, “As far as we’re concerned, within our family unit, we are a normal family. I love my children the same way any father does.”

Much of this modern way of thinking and lack of hired help has been credited to the so-called “Middletonization” of the royal family, what with William’s bride being a commoner who experienced a relatively modest upbringing. But the seed was planted well before the University of St. Andrews grads ever crossed paths.
It was Diana who declared, “I want to bring them up with security. I hug my children to death and get into bed with them at night. I always feed them love and affection; it’s so important.” And she’s largely thought to be the first woman in the royal family to nurse, ABC News royal correspondent Victoria Arbiter said: “Of course, that’s hard for us to know for certain, but Queen Victoria was adamant that she found breastfeeding disgusting. She thought babies were ugly, and she didn’t really enjoy any part of being pregnant, yet she had nine children.”
Diana, meanwhile couldn’t get enough of her newborn boys. At William’s first press conference she admitted, “I find I can’t stop playing with him.”
So when it came time for an official tour, this one to Australia and New Zealand, she insisted 9-month-old William come along. “And [people] were like, ‘Breaking royal precedent,'” Daisy Goodwin, author of My Last Duchess told ABC News. “But it was brilliant, because…we all really warmed to her. Because no woman wants to leave her baby, and that was what made Diana so lovable—that she always absolutely adored her children.”

William and Kate followed suit, toting 8-month-old George Down Under for their 19-day visit in 2014. And while George and his new sister Charlotte didn’t tag along for a weeklong trip to India in 2016, “Because George is too naughty,” Kate told fans, “he would be running all over the place,” they were on hand for a 2016 trip to Canada and a stopover in Germany and Poland last year.
Both trips produced some utterly relatable photographs of Kate trying to soothe or scold both of her children, each snapshot serving to highlight the fact that despite living in a literal palace, when it comes down to it, the duchess is a regular mom. Rather than rely on a team of household helpers, William and Kate have a team of one: longtime nanny Maria Borrallo. “They’re not having them raised by a coterie of nannies behind palace walls,” Christopher Andersen, the author of the new book Game of Crowns: Elizabeth, Camilla, Kate, and the Throne, told Good Housekeeping. “Charles had no real exposure as a small child to the world outside the royal circle. She does have a nanny, but really Kate is a hands-on mom.”
Chris Jackson/Getty Images
Having spent their earliest years two-and-a-half hours from the London spotlight in the sleepy Norfolk village of Anmer, Charlotte was able to develop her love of soccer sheltered by cast-iron security gates, 12-foot pines and a no-fly zone that was placed overhead at William’s request. At a 2016 luncheon held in his honor, British Football Association president William reported to the crowd that the then-11-month-old was “a very good footballer. You hold her hand and she kicks it. Very sweet.”
Meanwhile George, lover of anything with wheels, was able to tool around the 20,000-acre grounds of Anmer Hall on bike rides with Dad. And when Charlotte wasn’t tumbling around with George, she’d be trailing after her mom, a family friend telling Us Weekly she had her own set of kitchen gadgets she used when Kate was preparing food in the 18th century home’s renovated kitchen. Her other go-to toy, the friend revealed, anything Disney Princess, though, “I don’t think it’s quite dawned on her that she’s a princess herself.” Similarly George, “quite likes The Lion King,” William has revealed, however, it’s unclear if the presumed future monarch grasps the full weight of the song “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King.”
In an ideal world, that particular cognizance is a ways off. Catherine Mayer, author of Charles: The Heart of a King told E! News that William knows how much his father struggled with the weight of his future as a child. So with George, he and Kate “are trying to delay that moment of realization and give him normality before they thrust this on him.”
While it seems likely a few of his well-heeled classmates at Thomas’s Battersea recognize his status, for now he’s just George Cambridge, whose parents chatted with the other grownups at orientation and turned out to watch him portray the role of sheep in the nativity play.

But all of that may not have been possible if Diana didn’t take a stand back in the ’80s. At her insistence, William, followed by his brother Prince Harry, became the first heir to “begin his schooling outside of a palace,” Newsweek‘s George Hackett wrote in 1985. “The decision to have William, 3, develop his finger-painting skills among commoners showed the influence of Diana, Princess of Wales, who had worked in a nursery school herself when she was just a Lady.”
And William’s first day at Jane Mynor’s nursery school went went swimmingly, the young prince returning home with a finger mouse and his Postman Pat thermos. “He enjoyed himself; there were no tears,” a palace spokesperson proclaimed.
Just the slightest bit of annoyance. Bodyguard Ken Wharfe recalled one anecdote to ABC News, noting Diana informed William there would be people taking pictures and he’d need to behave. “And he, in this sort of just William way, said to his mother, just below the pink cap, ‘I don’t like ‘tographers,'” recounted Wharfe. “She said, ‘Well, you’re going to get this for the rest of your life.”
Jayne Fincher/courtesy of HBO
But to balance out the intrusion, Diana packed in as much fun and normality as possible. Before she came along, royals were mostly kept sequestered from the population they’d one day rule. As a princess, Elizabeth was said to be so trapped in her gilded cage the palace had to invite in a Girl Guide company (known as Girl Scouts in the U.S.) so she had kids her own age to play with.
“I think that really is the long-lasting legacy that Diana has left William and Harry,” royal correspondent Arbiter said. “She took them outside the palace walls.”
With Diana leading the way, they road the bus and the tube and even went to Disney World, where they stood in line with everyone else.
“She made sure that they experienced things like going to the cinema, queuing up to buy a McDonalds, going to amusement parks, those sorts of things that were experiences that they could share with their friends,” Diana’s chief of staff Patrick Jephson told ABC News.
Perhaps more importantly, she introduced them to her charity work, bringing her boys along on visits to hospitals and homeless shelters. “It was a very difficult dilemma for Diana to prepare them for the very distinctive, unique life that they have had to lead,” Jephson said. “And she did it very cleverly, I think.”
Mike Forster / Daily Mail /REX/Shutterstock
That included taking a 7-year-old William to a homeless shelter “completely out of sight of any camera or media,” Wharfe recalled. “This was Diana’s way of actually saying to William, ‘Listen, it isn’t all what you think it is living at Kensington Palace.’ That was a quite a brave thing on Diana’s part.”
It’s a lesson William, now the patron for the Centrepoint homeless charity, took to heart. “She played a huge part in my life and Harry’s growing up, in how we saw things and how we experienced things,” William said in a 2012 interview Katie Couric.
For now, he and Kate are focused on parables that are more easily digestible for those under the age of 5. “My parents taught me about the importance of qualities like kindness, respect and honesty. I realize how central values like these have been to me throughout my life,” Kate said during a kickoff to Children’s Mental Health Week last year. “That is why William and I want to teach our little children, George and Charlotte, just how important these things are as they grow up.”
But greater education lies ahead. As William recalled to Couric, his mom “very much wanted to get us to see the rawness of real life. And I can’t thank her enough for that, ’cause reality bites in a big way, and it was one of the biggest lessons I learned is, just how lucky and privileged so many of us are—particularly myself.”
George, Charlotte and now little Louis will never have bath time with Grandma—their greatest connection to her coming from William’s frequent bedtime stories and the photos that line the halls of their 21-room palace apartment. “It’s important that they know who she was and that she existed,” William explained in Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy.
We’re willing to bet they’ll be feeling the effects of her legacy for years to come.

Locating the Ideal Gifts For Modest Men Created Uncomplicated
dárky Does obtaining the ideal gifts for males really issue? How essential are the gifts we give? Can individuals seem by means of the neatly tied bows and crisp, patterned wrapping paper and see the authentic you and connect a that means to it all? Is it really that significant to your vocation, romance or impact over other individuals? Completely! The artwork of discovering the finest presents for modest males may possibly appear a comparatively straightforward approach, but when it arrives down to it, it is not. Presenting inappropriate items or gifts that may well offend can destroy any emerging or currently cast romantic relationship. New research concludes that getting a incorrect present for a male can set a partnership in jeopardy. This was centered on the assumption that 'gifts act as markers of interpersonal similarity for both equally acquaintances and close relationship companions...' (Dunn et al 2008). In this experiment, men's evaluation of unwanted presents revealed that they observed the present giver as a lot less equivalent to them. Subsequently they considered their long run together with these kinds of a particular person would be considerably shorter. I guess the lesson for all of us is that undesirable gifts mirror terribly on our romantic relationship and us as these close to us believe we know them well ample to locate the perfect present for each situation. It also pays to don't forget that finding a soul mate or 'kindred spirit' is believed to be central to a effective romance and pleasure (ibid. 2008). Where we discover a similarity with a lover, friend or colleague, it is human mother nature to affiliate this with higher connection satisfaction. We in particular like to believe our associates are similar to us. So this reveals the possible hurt that acquiring a bad present can do due to the fact it damages that sense of similarity when we get a bad gift. Obtaining the ideal items for gentlemen no matter if modest or not is for that reason, extremely important in my opinion. Do not lose heart. Choosing the finest reward for Xmas or any other situation will need not be an arduous undertaking as we will be searching at how to find the best existing for your dad, husband, son, male mate or colleague, specially if they are the modest kind. The common epitome of the "modest man" is one whose daily life is marked by simplicity and has a humble belief of himself. To put it far more bluntly he is generally a simple male with uncomplicated preferences - not that it is a poor factor. It can be almost extremely hard to get presents for this sort of guy, as you are constantly next guessing your selections. Will he like it? Will it be suitable? It might appear as a surprise to most girls that males generally have simple tastes and are sentimental contrary to popular belief. While they may prioritise necessity from time to time, they also have an psychological connection to certain things and occasions. Coming again to our modest guys, these adult men are generally not very materialistic which typically poses problems for any person who attempts acquiring the ideal gift for them. We can attract some similarities in between the essence of reward supplying and our modest blokes. The artwork of reward offering can be traced again to historic Roman festivals exactly where communities gave each and every other easy items these kinds of as sacred evergreen branches for the duration of celebrations. With time and as all issues do, there have been alterations to the types of items, which then incorporated gifts of honey and cakes symbolizing prosperity and sweetness anticipated in the coming year. Currently, reward-providing has develop into massive small business in particular at Christmas with the advent of St Nick, cutthroat marketing by the media and its potential to sensationalize this when modest gesture into a purchasing frenzy from early November until Xmas Eve. Ironically, there are still some cultures exactly where there is no present supplying insanity in the course of Christmas or any other instances for that issue! It is normal observe to be grateful to the powers that be for the additional a long time when it arrives to birthdays and a unique food, mostly chicken, rice and delicate drinks for lunch to mark Christmas. At very best the young kids get new outfits to put on to church. With this history in thoughts, is it any ponder that some individuals favor the simple items in existence? Despite the fact that the men we are worried about are modest, it undoubtedly does not signify that you can grab the drained outdated socks, jumpers and cologne regimen to mark each and every event. With selections only a mouse simply click away, we will need to put an stop to traditional mundane reward ideas. Assortment is the spice of lifetime, it might be an outdated stating but that should assist us refocus and deliver out our feeling of creative imagination even though seeking for the ideal presents for men. As these, gift obtaining really should be a course of action that calls for the innovative expression of our thoughts for the receiver, relying on the romance of course, which must be a pleasurable practical experience relatively than be observed as a chore or stressful time. Getting items only gets tricky when still left until finally the very last moment. When you make the choice to acquire a present, you will need to preserve in head the event, the recipient's persona and most importantly, your price range. I can not emphasize this ample. What are his passions or hobbies? Is he an active outdoorsy kind of dude? Is he a car or truck fanatic or eager on art, fishing, golfing or sports activities mad? Does he take pleasure in new music or videos? There are also a lot of good present ideas for the modest traveler or adventurer. A weekend reserving in a mountain cabin or passionate getaway are all alternatives that can be explored relying on your funds and his passions of study course. Selecting exceptional items that thrill him this sort of as expertise items could confirm lucrative for you in the lengthy run. We all know it is effortless to get anybody enthusiastic about something if you pin it to an present passion. Exceptional items, personalized items, high quality seating tickets for his favored group, a reward certification to a attractive restaurant will indicate a great deal more and display the recipient that more assumed has long gone into the selection process. I have carried out some research for you and have a handful of good gift supplying tips. I hope this helps. Generally, selecting up a hint from the receiver, an plan listed here or there is all you need to get the ball rolling. My son is 1 of people individuals that will convey to you as the calendar year progresses the kinds of factors he is into which can make lifetime less complicated when birthdays and Christmas will come alongside. All I want to do is choose from the several hints dropped albeit knowingly! Thus, listening to hints from a receiver is a fantastic way to gauge interests and it is of excellent importance in discovering the finest gifts for adult men. Obtaining said that, doing your purchasing on the web opens several options all at the touch of a button. Presents online arrive in a wide variety of groups to accommodate all preferences and superior still, queries can slim it down to suit your price range must you make a decision to set yourself cost ranges in these periods exactly where belt tightening has develop into the buy of the working day. Inexpensive is the new awesome this 12 months. Start early and you get a lot of time to seem for low-cost thoughtful presents that match your recipients' flavor, persona and your budget. Whoever coined the term 'boys and their toys' is absolutely a genius. My husband's best friend, a renowned physician and modest male I might incorporate has a popular rule, which rings true of most men if not all. He under no circumstances buys his children any toys that he can't perform with. Amusing that! As most of us have learnt, adult men are but youngsters in larger muscular bodies. For that reason, when getting them items, even for the modest person, maintain this gem in intellect. Absolutely everyone has a role model. As this kind of, all guys can be categorized into the James Bond type who adore all gizmos and his spirit of experience. This is manifest in males who enjoy and obtain and or function with everything electronic, mentioned health practitioner falls neatly into this classification Walker Texas Ranger, John Wayne or GI Joe wannabes who in authentic life may be our adult men in uniform policemen, army staff or firemen the MacGyver and the Do-it-yourself Mr. Fix It crew who revel in their electricity resources creating and constructing points. All adult men adore toys of some type and are enthusiastic about them.

Acquiring the Best Items For Modest Gentlemen Created Simple
dárky Does locating the best gifts for guys seriously matter? How crucial are the gifts we give? Can folks look by way of the neatly tied bows and crisp, patterned wrapping paper and see the real you and connect a that means to it all? The art of discovering the ideal presents for modest adult men may well seem a reasonably straightforward approach, but when it arrives down to it, it is not. Presenting inappropriate presents or presents that might offend can damage any emerging or currently cast connection. Latest exploration concludes that buying a incorrect reward for a guy can put a relationship in jeopardy. This was based on the assumption that 'gifts act as markers of interpersonal similarity for both acquaintances and near romantic relationship companions...' (Dunn et al 2008). In this experiment, men's analysis of undesirable presents revealed that they observed the present giver as much less equivalent to them. Subsequently they imagined their potential with each other with this kind of a man or woman would be significantly shorter. I guess the lesson for all of us is that negative presents mirror poorly on our relationship and us as all those near to us presume we know them properly ample to come across the great gift for each and every situation. It also pays to recall that acquiring a soul mate or 'kindred spirit' is considered to be central to a profitable relationship and satisfaction (ibid. 2008).
