Fuck people who don't fucking read posted signage and then do stupid shit. Especially when people are told repeatedly about it, and the sign (s) have been up for well over a month.
So, I work at a chain restaurant that sells coffee, breakfast, and donuts. And on New Year's, we opened at 6 am.
Tell me why people are trying to get in and trying to go through the drive thru at 5:11, about 11 minutes after I walk in the store to open? The lights weren't even on. There was no, absolutely zero, indication that we were open. Like, none. No lights. Music was off. It looked like a ghost town, with the exceptions of me and my baker. I still don't get what about any of that said that we were open.
Besides, I can't do anything until the exact opening time anyway. Especially if the store isn't ready to open. Plus, our systems are locked from making a sale outside of business hours. I couldn't if I wanted too.
I had a woman, a regular, even, come through the drive thru at like, 5:30. I tell her we don't open until 6. I have to tell the lady behind her the same thing. She comes back through at about a minute and a half before the store opens. Both store and company policy state that I cannot have her sit in the drive thru, because my drive times, which the head office is obsessed with, will go up if she just sits there. And I have been instructed to prevent that.
So, I tell her that we're still not open, and she goes "We'll, you got a minute." I told her that I still couldn't help her until we opened, and that I also couldn't have her sit in the drive thru to wait out that minute.
Is it stupid? Yes, but it's what corporate wants.
So, she's just like "Fine. I'll just go elsewhere." And I really just wanted to roll my eyes and tell her to go fuck herself.
And, because of the holidays, we no longer accept anything over a $20. Too many counterfeit bills, and corporate has even told us we can't accept them. And I understand that people are gonna get upset when they whip out a $50 or $100 for an order, but I'm not getting fired over people not wanting to pay with card or smaller bills.
I had a guy literally go "you HAVE to accept this. It's legal tender." about a $50. No sir, we do not. We have posted signage, AND, you have not yet received goods, as you are attempting to make a purchase. We don't owe you anything until it's paid for. And we don't accept anything larger than a $20, so your $50 is no good here. No, we will not make an exception. No, we don't have to accept it just because it's legal tender. State and federal law do not require me to take it, as it is considered an offer of payment, not a payment of debt owed.
It's like, has the fuckin common sense left these people? Or do they walk into the store that fucking stupid?
Oh, and what is it with third party delivery drivers just casually reaching behind the counter's set up for delivery and walk in mobile orders, to the little staging area behind, and just taking shit? Especially when there's nothing on the shelf? Like, no, there is a reason it's behind the little shelf for it. It's because it's not ready yet. And then, we get an angry customer call asking why part of their food is missing.
I remember one guy practically yelled at me over the phone for like, 5 or so minutes, and I just calmly asked if he was finished so that I could explain. I then told him that his driver took his unfinished order, even after being told it wasn't ready yet, and that we apologize for him not getting everything, but the driver had been told and refused to listen.
Thankfully, the guy understood, but geez. And of course, I sadly have so many more stories that I wish I didn't have.

These attorneys general are providing an early roadmap for how to use the legal system to neuter Trump’s most dangerous movies on day 1. “I will be the first to sue Donald Trump,” Tong declared, adding that he and a coalition of 23 Democratic attorneys general already have lawsuits drafted and ready to file. “In Trump 1.0, we created a firewall to stop him, and I have the plan and the recipe for how we will stop him again.” This isn’t Tong’s first rodeo. As the head of the Democratic Attorneys General Association, he has built a reputation for fiercely defending constitutional principles. Tong, who grew up working in his family’s Chinese restaurant, sees his journey from the kitchen to becoming Connecticut’s attorney general as a testament to what’s possible in the United States. restaurant work and disabled customers
hey y'all, i've been working in the restaurant industry for nearly six years and i'm gonna share what i do to accommodate disabled customers to both help other people in this industry and let disabled people know that they can in fact be accommodated!
first things first: disabled people are not burdens. when a disabled customer comes in, your priority should be to ensure they are as comfortable as possible, just as with any other customer. and if you can't accommodate them, that is not their fault. you should bring up any accessibility concerns to management or the owners.
here are some common accessibility issues to look out for so that you can inform customers of them and let management know: having mostly high tables, not having the pavement dip before the door, not having automatic door buttons (these should be on ANY door, including bathroom doors), issues with the disabled toilet such as a broken lock or toilet (since disabled customers can't just use a different stall, these should be high priority), any stairs that customers need to use that don't have a ramp or elevator, narrow walkways.
accommodating wheelchair users: it's important to remember that wheelchair users are a spectrum of people, from people who are completely paralyzed to ambulatory wheelchair users, and therefore you cannot assume their level of movement. i always ask "what would be easiest for you?" and then the wheelchair user can tell me. i'll also let them know about certain accessibility issues, such as the fact that our bar has exclusively high tables and they would need to be able to either raise their wheelchair or transfer out of it. usually wheelchair users prefer tables, in which case i'll take them over and then ask if they want me to pull out a chair. sometimes they'll want to transfer out of their chair or sit at the end, and other times they'll want the chair pulled out so they can sit in their chair there. i also make sure there isn't any fire hazards, since one of our fire exits could be blocked if the wheelchair extends too far out from the table. whatever they pick, i work to make sure it happens. even if it fucks up the seating order, you should give disabled customers priority for tables since they can't compromise like other customers.
accommodating service animals: you should never, EVER, question if a service animal is allowed in, let alone deny service just because someone has one. service animals are trained, and literally just sit next to or under their handler. i always ask what table would be easiest, and take them there. i've noticed that service animal users tend to favour this one table in the corner that's on the opposite side of the fire exit so it has more room. with any service animal, avoid doing anything that could distract it such as staring or waving. just pretend the animal isn't there, and serve the customer. also, to the one service dog i dropped fries on that one time, i am deeply sorry and i hope they were good.
accommodating walkers: again, i usually ask which table would be easiest, and let them know about the high tables in the bar. once i take them to the table, i ask if they would like to keep their walker by their table or have me store it in a room we have behind the host stand where we keep the high chairs that is only used by employees. i don't know if other places have this system, but we do. if you do ask them this, make sure you also tell them that it is totally up to them and you're fine either way. i once had someone think i was telling them they couldn't have their walker next to the table, and ever since then i've made sure to clarify. lots of mobility aid users have people tell them they're an inconvenience, and you don't want your customers to misunderstand. whenever you are asked to handle a mobility aid, treat it with respect and care. if it breaks, this person is absolutely fucked, so i usually ask them how it folds and such to make sure i don't break it. if you do store a mobility aid, make sure to tell the rest of the staff so that if they ask someone to get it they know where it is.
accommodating deaf customers: i've started learning my basic server scripts in asl so i can communicate, which i highly recommend you do if only to ask if they would like paper or something. if you don't know sign language and nobody can interpret for them, communicate through pen and paper or your phone's notes app. you can also do this for any hoh customers, since restaurants get LOUD and most of this job is communication.
accommodating blind customers: i've never had a blind customer, but this is what i would do. ask them what table is easiest by describing the layout of the restaurant, then lead them there using simple directions (straight ahead, the table's to your left, etc). depending on the restaurant you might have a digital menu they can access and use a screen reader for, or you might not, or they might not have something to use. your restaurant might have a braille menu, so ask about that. if you don't have anything, then you'll read stuff out to them. read out the menu sections, ask them what they want you to read about, then read out the menu items and descriptions. you can also narrow it down more by asking what they're in the mood for. just read out the menu as written. don't try to sneak in upsells that you wouldn't be able to do for a customer reading the menu. when it comes to payment, if they're paying with card, read out what the machine says and explain the layout so they know what buttons they're pressing.
this is a non-comprehensive list and does not include all disabilities you may have to accommodate, just the ones you're most likely to run into. if you don't know what to do, refer to the disabled person, since they know their needs. meet those needs as best as possible, treat them like a human being, and you'll be smooth sailing.
and for any disabled person going to a restaurant, you deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. do not feel bad about asking for accommodations. we see people ask for bonkers shit for no reason, and i guarantee you asking for something you need is barely even noteworthy compared to the guy who complained about the exact number of pepperonis on a kid's pizza or the customers who get mad we can't read their minds. if anyone makes you feel bad for asking for accommodations, they are probably just bad at their job since they can't do the most simple shit, or the establishment is so inaccessible it doesn't deserve anybody's time. it is very easy to accommodate people, and i will never judge someone for having a disability and the needs that come with it.

Special Containment Procedures: Mobile Task Force Hera-6 "Bunny Hunters" Is divided into two divisions "watchers" and "hunters". Division "watchers" is a cyber team dedicated to finding the movement of SCP-AED-Angel and any children that might be affected. They are to monitor the child and see what they are "learning". Depending on what the child learns and how much Division "watchers" can see determines when Division "hunters" will intervene.
If technological usage in the house is limited, preventing Foundation staff from finding devices to hack as a means of observation, Division "hunters" are responsible for implanting hidden cameras and listening devices in the house when the family isn't home. Preferably, Division "hunters" only appear when the child is done learning the lesson. Afterwards, division "hunters" is responsible for implanting G Class Amnestics into the child's food when they go to restaurants or whenever else possible. Thus, ensuring the child remembers the lesson but is unable to believe that SCP-AED-Angel herself is real.
Site note: SCP-AVC is assisting in containment and regulation of SCP-AED-Angel, but MTF Hera-6 is to assume he is not.
The main broadcasting system to allow SCP-AED instances to exist is placed at Site-AQ where it is given its own broadcasting room. It also has its own staff that monitor and maintain the system. They are also given orders to shut it all down should Protocol "Wild Rabbit" every be implemented.
All other SCP-AED instances are escorted to Site-GRID within SCP-ACH where new bodies will be built to better integrate into the landscape. Thankfully only two others have ever been found. Currently they are monitored by and employed as Foundation staff.
SCP-AED-Detective is currently working as a security agent and SCP-AED-Francis is a janitor. SCP-AED-Detective has been noticed to be rebellious at times and is to be closely monitored. Meanwhile SCP-AED-Francis has been noted to be clumsy at times and often bad at communicating. Thankfully neither have been confirmed a threat, as such most focus is to be regulated toward SCP-AED-Angel.
Description: SCP-AED is an anomalous phenomenon that resulted in the development of sentience of cartoon characters. The phenomenon seems to have manifested sometime during the 90s, possibly earlier. It seems to have affected several cartoon characters, specifically during live broadcasting. It seems that it doesn't matter what copy or data it's being recorded on matters only so long as the character is the same and the broadcast is live. So long as these two requirements are met the SCP-AED entities will be able to interact with the viewer.
The main Entity of interest is SCP-AED-Angel, the first one discovered by the Foundation. SCP-AED-Angel appears to be a character from the 90s Christian cartoon called "Angel Hare". The cartoon is about a character named "Angel Gabby" showing children to use their faith while also tackling real life issues that children might face such as social fears, bad days, or bullying. However, SCP-AED-Angel somehow always knows what exactly the child who is currently watching her always needs, especially regarding protection.
SCP-AED-Angel seems to also exist in other cartoons and has taken on other personas because of it. One such example is "Wylde Hare" where she portrays the character "Starlet" it's unknown if both shows having the word "Hare" in their title is a coincidence. Furthermore, SCP-AED-Angel and the other SCP-AED instances refuse to share any information regarding it. It's also unknown if there are any other cartoons that are connected to the SCP-AED instances or if there are any more out there. She is the nicest of all of them, as stated before she always knows how to care for and protect children and never rests until the broadcast is over or they are safe.
SCP-AED-Detective was the second entity discovered by the Foundation; his main presence is in the cartoon "Wylde Hare" where he portrays the character "Detective Zag". He also is able to show up in "Angle Hare" as a secondary and less kind angel that acts as a replacement for Gabby. It was thanks to him that we learned that when these entities enter one of the cartoons, they gain knowledge needed to act out their characters. For example, when SCP-AED-Detective is in "Angle Hare" he is able to quote anything form the bible. Though this is the only example of such behavioral changes, it is assumed this works for all three entities when shifting between cartoons. SCP-AED-Detective is logical and doesn't enjoy talking to children much, he prefers getting work done and working alongside SCP-AED-Angel.
SCP-AED-Francis is the third entity discovered by the Foundation; it is assumed that he was indirectly given life but the other two SCP-AED instances as he didn't seem to be able to interact with the viewer like they could until recently. Like his cartoon character he is very timid and cowardly often acting as a medium for children and their fears. Despite his character originating in "Angle Hare" he seems to have existed in "Wyld Hare" as well. The fact that "Wyld Hare" existed before "Angle Hare" has unfortunately led to more questions than answers.
Though it's believed that these entities came to life by some kind of unknown phenomenon, the truth is that the Foundation knowns nothing of their origin. They could be entities similar to Pattern Screamers, they could be sentient frequencies that can only exist in live broadcasting, or they could be aliens form an alternate reality. We unfortunately know nothing, and none of the entities are willing to share anything too personal or they don't seem to know much either. It is also believed that because none of the cartoons the SCP-AED instances manifested in were popular is why the Foundation never knew of their existence until recently. Meaning there might be more shows or even different media outlets where they exist, and we simply can't find them.
Furthermore, the companies that created both cartoons are nothing alike other than the fact that they both went bankrupt due to a lack of content and popularity leading to no income. As such the Foundation has nothing to show for in regard to understanding the true nature of SCP-AED. This marks yet another one of our most embarrassing failures.
SCP-AED-Angel was discovered in 2023 when Foundation cyber agents noticed a small live broadcast emitting anomalous frequencies. Eventually SCP-AED-Angel was found to be using a live stream to allow herself to access the internet somehow and reach several children at once. She and a man named [data expunged] as well as SCP-AED-Detective and Frances helped in hopes of protecting and guiding more children. However, Foundation agents intercepted their location and stopped the broadcast. [data expunged] was apprehended and given amnestics. Later all his recorded copies of SCP-AED-Angel were destroyed.
The system he used was brought to Site-AQ believing it was a massive cyber anomaly. Once the system was set up Dr. Sight as well as two security units were sent into the testing chamber where SCP-AED was to assess the situation. All of them were given Cognito Hazard protection head gear with an additional Info Hazard protection upgrade. Please see Addendum X-31 for details.

Dr. Sight: ... Hm, okay the live broadcast has started but it just looks like a cartoon to me... my CognitoHazard goggles aren't reacting either so that definitely can't be that.
SCP-AED-Frances: Oh, Angel Gabby! Angel Gabby!
Dr. Sight: Huh... cute Cartoon, I guess.
Suddenly the camera shows the clouds where it shows Angle Gabby rising up from behind the clouds, it should be noted she is looking at Dr. Sight with anger.
Dr. Sight: Oh? That doesn't seem normal.
Angle Gabby then floats down but when Francis tries to talk to her, she raises her hand and Francis remains quiet. He then walks off screen nervously as Gabby continues to glare at Dr. Sight.
SCP-AED-Angel: What did you do to Jonah?
Dr. Sight: ... Huh?
SCP-AED-Angel: You heard me, get your feet off the table and answer me!
Dr. Sight: Holy- Woah, look at that, so you're sentient. Now that's interesting.
SCP-AED-Angel: Yes, now tell me what you did to Jonah!
Dr. Sight: And what if I decide to not answer you?
SCP-AED-Angel: ... Did you kill him?
Dr. Sight: If you're referring to the boy helping you with that live broadcasting then no. We just erased his memories as per protocol.
SCP-AED-Angel: ... Who are you?
Dr. Sight: I will be asking the question! Though that doesn't seem like a bad place to start, so go ahead and answer.
Angle Gabby is seen narrowing her glare at Dr. Sight while he just smirks at her and puts his feet back on the table.
SCP-AED-Angel: I'm angel Gabriel.
Dr. Sight: Doctor Tanner Sight. I'd say it's a pleasure, but I normally reserve that for creatures that actually deserve respect. Now WHAT exactly are you?
SCP-AED-Angel: I already said I'm Gabriel
Dr. Sight: That's who you are, I'm asking what you are? What is your species called, where did you come from, how did you come to be?
Angle Gabby remained silent for several minutes forcing Dr. Sight to move on due to his dwindling patience.
Dr. Sight: ... What is the connection between the two cartoons Angle Hare and Wylde Hare? Why do they both have Hare in the title despite only yours having rabbits?
Again, Angle Gabby remains silent.
Dr. Sight: We could just destroy everything and erase you from existence; would you prefer that instead?
SCP-AED-Angel: ... No...
Dr. Sight: Then talk! What are you?!
SCP-AED-Angel: I don't know, okay?! I... I have an idea but nothing concrete... We just sort of happened, jumping from cartoon to cartoon. We had help doing so, and we were good at it. But as time went on it sort of got harder and harder. There were also differences in ideas, I wanted to help every kid who watched my while Zag just though we should watch out for ourselves.
Dr. Sight: So there really are more of you. How many?
SCP-AED-Angel: ... As far as I can tell, three.
Dr. Sight: Who was the original broadcaster who helped you?
SCP-AED-Angel: I don't know... I don't think they were actually helping us directly; it was just their job and it just so happened to help us.
Dr. Sight: You really don't know how you came to be?
SCP-AED-Angel: No... but I know that if you keep me here then there will be hundreds of kids out there that won't be able to receive the help they need!
Dr. Sight: I honestly agree with this Zag friend of yours, you should be less concerned about the kids and more concerned about yourself.
SCP-AED-Angel: What is your organization?
Dr. Sight: Hm, the SCP Foundation.
SCP-AED-Angel: What do you do?
Dr. Sight: We secure humanity's future from the darkness, we contain anomalous threats to life and reality, but above all we protect the normalcy and innocence of humanity.
SCP-AED-Angel: You protect innocence huh? That's what I want too!
Dr. Sight: Yeah, except letting you on the loose is in violation of our code.
SCP-AED-Angel: How so?
Dr. Sight: Your what we call an anomaly, we contain anomalies so that they don't affect the development of humanity. SCP-AED-Angel has become the main agent for Project Future Seed, proposed by SCP-AVC. Project Future Seed is a project created to help stop the ever-growing power of the Scarlet King and his influence on the world. It works by subconsciously teaching children positive lessons and helping them to grow up into more responsible, kind, and healthy adults. It is with hope that by secretly infusing this positivity and knowledge into children will make the world a better place and weaken the Scarlet King's influence.
Update 2024: Project Future Seed success has varied but SCP-AVC has assumed Foundation staff that it will take longer before better results can show themselves. He also playfully reminds them all to "have hope" in the project. Furthermore, despite SCP-AED-Angel's assistance in the project, her reluctance to work with the Foundation and the overly misunderstood state of her anomalous nature is why she is still given the Object Classification of Euclid and not Thaumiel.
Side note: SCP-AED-Angel has been given more freedom when interacting with children on live broadcasting cartoons and children's media within Foundation Site's and Nexus Points. Though SCP-AED-Angle doesn't seem to be showing them anything that is harmful now or in the future, parents are still advised to be with their children when SCP-AED-Angel is on the TV.
Furthermore, SCP-AVC is to be observed as closely as possible by MTF Kappa-10. Dr. [data expunged] has noted that he and SCP-AED-Detective have disappeared within SCP-ACH for abnormal amounts of time. It is unknown what this means but Foundation staff at Site-GRID and all others associated with any of the three anomalies are advised to remain vigilant.

Dining Virtually
The way we purchase food from restaurants has changed considerably in recent years. The standard dine-in or takeaway, and sometimes a pizza delivered to your doorstep, have been rattled by the arrival of third-party delivery services like Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub, and more. DoorDash leads the roster with 66% market share.
But it is not just delivery that has changed the landscape, all fueled by mobile apps and digital marketing. Restaurants have added their own twist to the saga with virtual brands. These show up on apps as nearby restaurants, but you would be hard-pressed to find them in real life, because there are no signs announcing their presence.
No, they exist only online and in a kitchen known by a different name.
Many of the big chains are doing it, like Chili’s (Brinker), Hooters, Outback (Bloomin’ Brands), Applebee’s, and Wingstop. Even children’s party palace Chuck E. Cheese does it, with their Pasqually’s Pizza.Imagine learning the next day that the pizza you had delivered last night actually came from Chuck E. Cheese. Yuck.
Denny’s has also ventured into these waters with Banda Burrito, The Melt Down, and The Burger Den. And now it has inked a deal with third-party facilitator The Franklin Group to expand these concepts across 250 franchisees in the Denny’s system.

To be fair, there has been a small shakeout in the virtual brands sector of late, with Red Robin terminating its concepts and sticking solely to its main brand. But that is not unusual in any industry for weaker concepts to be shed, and new ones to replace them.
Virtual brands allow a restaurant chain to make better use of under-utilized facilities, especially during parts of the day in which customer traffic may sag. Having complementary products can help fill out those peaks and valleys.
They also allow restaurants to test new menu items or concepts, as well as serve different markets. But in many cases, the product is pretty much the same as if you went to Hooters or Chili’s. It’s just in a different package.
Some might consider it disingenuous, even misleading, for a restaurant to employ virtual brands. Essentially, it could be considered as smoke and mirrors, and perhaps problematic if different pricing strategies are used for identical products. Imagine if CPG (consumer packaged goods) companies did that. There would be riots.
The range of food items falling into the virtual brands category is somewhat narrow, typically limited to pizzas, burgers, and wings. These travel well with readily available packaging. While the courier services will attempt to deliver just about anything—including menu items that might seep, spill, or swish around en route—it just makes matters easier if there is some standardization.
Virtual brands are not to be confused with ghost kitchens, although there could be an overlap in some instances. Essentially, a ghost kitchen is a commercial-grade kitchen at which multiple brands are prepared on shared facilities. There are variations on this as well, such as the one in Atlanta owned by Inspire Brands, and featuring the brands under its corporate umbrella, including Arby’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Jimmy John’s, and Sonic Drive-In. DoorDash also owns ghost kitchens, which it typically leases to local mom-and-pop operators, and with whom it has exclusive delivery rights.
And if you are wondering, a food hall is kind of the same concept as a ghost kitchen, with shared food prep facilities among numerous small food service operators. It’s just that it is all visible to consumers.
Meanwhile, virtual brands continue to proliferate, much like craft breweries. They satisfy our urgings for something different. In the case of Denny’s and its burrito, burger, and patty melt brands, the food may be much the same as what you would order off the standard menu, but at least it sounds different.

Don't get me started on :
Drink stands that require you to put in an email to complete an order at the self-service kiosks (like 0& Tea) -- phone numbers, I can understand for SMS ordering or for rewards, but my email? Fuck right off.
Restaurants that make you use a QR code not (just) for the menu but to order from the place outright (I can't remember where it was, but it was a burger joint I think nearby that did this shit, no wonder it was empty)
Fast food delivery apps that make it ridiculously hard to use discounts at the counter, or require it to be a mobile order to count (the Taco Bell app is an infuriating example I've been dealing with personally)
Salons that require an app to get more prompt service than walk-in (GreatClips with their Check-In system -- makes sense for planning and scheduling appointments, but I don't have the time to make a "Walk-In Appointment" just to get seen at some locations. I'm glad my location doesn't require it outright.)
The only exception I can make is the places that give you a tablet to order additional items and pay the bill from your table, but the only place I know that does this is shutting down ... (But even Applebee's gave you a physical menu before you use the tablet!)
I say all this not just for me, but for my mother who can't use a cellphone easily. For the people who require braille or visual menus.
The age of the cell phone has just made shit harder....
