whenever i come across mister clean being mentioned i remember that in german hes called "Meister Proper", literally master proper/neat. though ive never actually heard the word proper being used in conversational german.

Iceman and Romeo try to fight Mister Clean but he is too strong for them. As he reforms himself, Iceman decides to stay behind to fight despite Romeo's protests. Iceman knew that he might die without an emotional anchor like Romeo but he prefers to go down fighting like a real mutant. Thus, Romeo was sent away to flee on a submarine while Iceman stays behind. Iceman confronts Mister Clean who is exposed as a cyborg. After Mister Clean is near defeated, he grabs onto Iceman and reveals he is also a nuclear bomb. Iceman does not resist and says he almost died at the Gala and needs to face his fear re-form again on his own. And even if he doesn't… no mutant or inhuman will have to deal with Mister Clean again. Both Iceman and Mister Clean get blown up and the whole icy hideout comes crashing down. Elsewhere, Romeo watches the explosion and mourns for Iceman.

ok so your first problem was assuming mdzs is a story where Good People are Rewarded and Bad People are Punished.

your second problem was assuming that MXTX—who goes out of her way to showcase unresolved, tragic, undeserved endings in all of her works—would ever write a story with such a shallow notion of “deserving.”

the only reason wangxian makes it out unscathed is because they’re literally the protagonists. authorial intent and plot armor ensure their happy ending. that’s it.
