Should You Use a Private Investigator in Child Custody Cases?
If you are involved in a child custody dispute, you should consider hiring a private investigator. The most important thing to remember while fighting for child custody is that you must gather all of the information on your side before coming to court.
A private investigator's function in a child custody battle is to ensure their clients have the proof they require to win their case. In this guide, we'll explain how private investigators assist with a Missouri child custody laws investigation.
Surveillance concerning a custody dispute
Surveillance can be useful for acquiring evidence in a child custody dispute. In child custody disputes, a private detective will follow the alleged parent and record their movements and whereabouts all day.
When you think the other parent could be up to something, surveillance is an excellent strategy to employ, and also, they will make you aware of all the Missouri laws on child custody.
Perform background checks on the other parties involved
Background checks on other parties engaged in the case are something private investigators in child custody disputes can accomplish. They can gather information from friends, relatives, ex-spouses, neighbors, and even professional contacts to give you an edge in your child custody dispute.
Query Witnesses and Collect Testimony
Gathering witness testimonies is another frequent procedure private detective in child custody disputes do. The private investigator will speak with individuals who may have interacted with the other parent and compile all the information provided, including details about their personalities and any dubious activities they may be engaging in.
Find Financial Resources for Child Support
To secure financial assistance for your child, a private investigator can assist you in locating the other parent's assets. Private detectives will investigate in-depth to learn the other parent's monthly income if they believe they are hiding it or have been misled.
Conclusion
Reach out for a consultation on what Missouri child custody laws and how investigations can do for you if you or a loved one is worried about the child's safety, wants peace of mind, have been wrongfully accused of abuse or neglect, or is needed by law.

For pregnant women in abusive marriages, leaving their is spouse already a difficult decision. Their escape is made even harder in the four states that prevent them from getting a divorce.
Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas all have laws that mandate women seeking a divorce to disclose if they are pregnant, and prohibit judges from finalizing the divorce if they are. No such law exists in Arizona, but judges in practice still will not finalize the divorce of a pregnant woman, according to the American Pregnancy Association.
In Missouri, a law from 1973 requires couples to disclose “whether the wife is pregnant" while filing, and the two must finalize "any arrangements for the custody and support of the children." Justices count the gestating fetus as a child, and have therefore interpreted the law to mean until the pregnancy is finished.
Democratic state Rep. Ashley Aune introduced House Bill 2402 earlier this year, which would remove restrictions around divorcing while pregnant. Aune recently told NPR that "I don't honestly feel very hopeful" about its chance of passing in the Republican-dominated state legislature, but she said she felt compelled to try after hearing harrowing stories from survivors of domestic violence.
"How can you look that person in the eye and say, 'No, I think you should stay with that person,'" Aune said. "That's wild to me."
Activists say that the U.S. Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022 left pregnant women in abusive relationships with even less control over their lives, and less access to vital resources. Marium Durrani, vice president of policy for the National Domestic Violence Hotline told the outlet that the group received a 100% call increase in the year following the ruling.
"We're seeing lots more people citing reproductive coercion, sexual coercion, reproductive abuse, or pregnancy coercion as part of their experience," she said. "I mean, we are getting calls that are very explicitly like 'I am pregnant.' 'I am trying to escape.' 'I cannot get resources where I am or in my state or my locality.'"
If you or someone you know is affected by domestic violence, there is help available. The National Domestic Violence Hotline can be reached at 800-799-7233. Other resources can be found here.

Texas authorities say a 12-year-old Houston girl who disappeared for over a week, allegedly with a 27-year-old kidnapping suspect, was using a dating app called Tagged.
The girl was reported missing Feb. 22, when she was seen getting into a vehicle in the 7700 block of Waterchase Drive in Missouri City, Texas, around 1:40 a.m.
On March 1, Columbus Police were informed the suspect may be in their city limits and ultimately found and "attempted to detain" Sirterryon Preston "in reference to having possession of the missing juvenile," Columbus Police said in a press release.
"Preston attempted to flee police custody but was captured and arrested," police said. The suspect is charged with evading arrest and was taken to the Colorado County Detention Facility. Authorities are eyeing more charges pending an FBI investigation into the girl's disappearance.
Tagged, a dating app for people 17 years or older, is owned by the Meet Group, the dating app network company behind MeetMe, hi5, LOVOO, Growlr and Skout.
"We were deeply saddened to learn the news of [the girl's] disappearance and are relieved by her safe return," the Meet Group told Fox News Digital in a statement. "Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of the community on our platforms every day. As such, we proactively reached out to Houston law enforcement to offer any assistance we could as soon as we became aware of the situation."
The Meet Group noted that Tagged's policies "prohibit minors" from using its dating apps, and the company utilizes "both technology and manual analysis to help check for minors who may have registered for our platform using a false age.
"Should we be made aware of any attempts to circumvent our process, we thoroughly investigate any report involving a possible minor user or child exploitation," the company added. "We invest significantly in these efforts, and while we know that, sadly, there is no way to make this process completely infallible, we are continuously evolving to stay at the forefront of best-in-class safety practices."
Dr. John DeGarmo, founder and director of the Foster Care Institute, told Fox News Digital children will often turn to dating apps and other platforms to get attention when they are not receiving enough love or attention at home.
"I think all dating sites present a risk to children," DeGarmo said. "I know Tagged has some type of policy where they don't allow kids under the age of 17, but how many children, like this girl here, are on it? I imagine there are thousands of children on these sites."
Sexual predators are also on dating sites looking to groom minors, DeGarmo added.
The child safety advocate said parents should have regular conversations with their children about the dangers of dating apps and social media platforms in general, where predators may be seeking to connect with minors. Parents should also monitor their children's activity online, he said.
"Parents have to be vigilant with their children in a number of matters. … Parents have to form strong, healthy relationships with their children so their children are not looking for these relationships elsewhere," DeGarmo said, adding that children coming from broken homes or who don't have "loving parental figures" will look for "what they are lacking in their life" on social media and dating websites.
Kris Perry, executive director of Children and Screens: Institute of Digital Media and Child Development, told Fox News Digital "there is limited existing research into how many teens are using dating apps, much less the risks or outcomes of this use."
"There is evidence that predators target minors through social media apps, knowledge that has guided some of the recommended protections we see in legislation such as the Kids Online Safety Act," Perry said.
"We can reasonably expect that dating apps are no different, except that for many of these apps, users are supposed to be at least 18. Without knowing many details, this case (and many like it) are examples of why we need a stronger understanding of how youth may be using these apps, what risks may exist and what changes can be made to create safer online experiences."

A woman gripped with a shock collar manages to escape from the house where she was held captive and was repeatedly raped
youtube
_______________________________
A 39-year-old Missouri man was is behind bars for allegedly holding a woman captive in his basement for more than a month, where he’s accused of keeping her hands and feet bound and raping her.
Timothy M. Haslett was taken into custody on Friday and charged with first-degree aggravated rape, first-degree kidnapping, and second-degree assault, court documents reviewed by Law&Crime show.
Tumblr media
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers with the Excelsior Springs Police Department on Oct. 7 responded to a call about “a female who showed up at the front door wearing a trash bag, metal collar with a padlock, and duct tape around her neck.” The woman — identified in the document by the initials “T.J.” — allegedly told the caller that she had been held against her will at a nearby residence since the previous month.
“Upon the officers’ arrival at the residence, they found T.J. She was wearing latex lingerie and had a metal collar around her neck with a padlock and duct tape around her neck,” the affidavit states. “T.J. advised that a man by the name of Timothy picked her up on Prospect in Kansas City at the beginning of September 2022. She advised Timothy had kept her in a small room in the basement that he had built. He kept her restrained in handcuffs on her wrists and ankles. She was able to get free when he left to take his child to school.”
Excelsior Springs Emergency Medical Services (EMS) removed the collar — described in reports as like a homemade shock collar — from around T.J.’s neck because it was restricting her breathing and transported her via ambulance to Excelsior Springs Hospital. A detective rode in the ambulance with T.J., who said she could point out the residence if they drove past the home. She soon pointed out Haslett’s address located in the 300 block of Old Orchard Street.
“T.J. further advised that Timothy had whipped her while she was restrained,” the affidavit states. “There were injuries on [redacted] back that were consistent with this description. T.J. advised that Timothy had raped her multiple times and frequently while she was held as a hostage.”
Police say they did a records check and found that Timothy Haslett was listed as the resident for the home T.J pointed out. Officers then set up a perimeter around the residence and waited for him to arrive home.
Haslett at approximately 8:41 a.m. arrived back at the residence driving a gray Dodge Ram pickup truck. Officers conducted a felony traffic stop and “took Haslett into custody on an unrelated animal control violation,” per the affidavit.
Associate Clay County Circuit Court Judge Louis Angles issued a search warrant for Haslett’s home. Officers searched the interior and “observed a room in the basement consistent with what T.J. had described.” Investigators also say they found no other victims inside but did recover “numerous” firearms from inside the the home.
Investigators with the Clay County Missouri Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas City Missouri Police Department are assisting police in the investigation.
Authorities have remained tight-lipped about details uncovered in the investigation. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday explained the reason for not releasing more details in a Tuesday Facebook post.
“It will take time to interview people involved. It will take time to use that information to see if the suspect in this case is connected to any more crimes. And when those things have happened, there will still be very little law enforcement can share until the case goes to court,” the post read in part. “Because if you want justice for victims and for people who have broken the law, that’s what has to happen.”
The neighbor who let T.J. into her home and called 911 revealed some details about that night in an interview with Kansas City, Missouri NBC affiliate KSHB-TV.
Lisa Johnson reportedly told the station that when she first saw T.J. “hunched over” and crawling up the front steps, she immediately went to call 911, but T.J. became scared and ran next door.
“It frightened her. She told me if I called the cops he’d kill us both,” Johnson reportedly said.
Another neighbor said the victim spoke about friends that Haslett had allegedly killed.
“She made the comment about her friends that they didn’t make it and that he had killed them,” a neighbor reportedly told Kansas City, Missouri CBS affiliate KCTV. “I’m really hoping that they find evidence about her friends. If anything, she can have closure about her friends and know that if something did happen, if she witnessed something with her friends, that they can figure it out. That way she can have closure and know that her friends had justice too.”
Haslett was arraigned on Tuesday and entered a plea of not guilty to the aforementioned charges. He requested a public defender to represent him in the proceedings.
He is currently being held in Clay County Jail on $500,000 bond.

Newsweek: Florida Man Wants $3 Million Reparations for Each Black Resident
A man in Tampa, Florida, wants the city to hand out $3 million in reparations for each Black resident.
"No Black person cares about them speed bumps or parks and recreation," the man, who is Black but was otherwise unidentified, said during Thursday's City Council meeting. "What Black people care about is our reparations. This city owes us, each and every Black person in the city of Tampa, at least $3 million in reparations."
He continued: "That's what's important. All this nonsense y'all talk about—all this nonsense, homelessness and all this other garbage y'all talk about, police violence and all this stuff—don't nobody care about that. We care about our reparations and we have to put white people on notice that we want our reparations."
His remarks were met with a brief "thank-you" from the council. Newsweek reached out to the council via email for comment.
The issue of reparations—financial compensation for slavery and other historical injustices—has become prominent in recent years, especially in the wake of the George Floyd protests in 2020 after he was killed while in Minneapolis police custody. California is expected to be the first state to approve a reparations program for Black residents to compensate for the state's history of slavery and racial discrimination.
Tumblr media
On the federal level, Democratic Representative Cori Bush of Missouri introduced legislation on Wednesday calling for $14 trillion in reparations for Black Americans. She said the U.S. has a "moral and legal obligation" to make payouts.
"America must provide reparations if we desire a prosperous future for all," Bush said during a press conference.
In Florida, reparations have been discussed. Former gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried, a Democrat, expressed support for reparations legislation during her 2022 campaign.
Asked by Stephen Hunter Johnson, a member of Miami-Dade County's Black Affairs Advisory Board, if she would sign a reparations bill into law if she was elected, Fried replied, "Yes, of course it would be. I think these are hard conversations to have, but we have to have them."
Fried was defeated in the Democratic primary by former Governor Charlie Crist, who went on to lose to Republican Governor Ron DeSantis in the general election.
On Thursday, the Tampa man compared racism to child molestation, saying that white Americans treat Black Americans like children and "molest us and get away with it." He also called for the city to remove every coded enforcement violation against any property used by a Black resident in Tampa, arguing that "we don't have attorneys, we don't have money."
"Our fore-parents and us, we didn't work for free and underpaid and all this nonsense, and the white folks get away with it [while] they talk about the great city that they're building," he said.
Polling shows the idea of reparations is broadly unpopular among Americans. Last November, a Pew Research Center survey found that while 77 percent of Black Americans support reparations for descendants of enslaved people, only 18 percent of white Americans agreed. The majority of Latinos and Asian Americans also oppose reparations, according to the poll.
In terms of party affiliation, 90 percent of Republicans said they oppose reparations, compared with half of Democrats.

Top Five Myths About Child Support in Missouri
Tumblr media
Your kids’ financial needs undoubtedly form a focal point in divorce proceedings. According to a 2021 study by Lending Tree, parents in the US paid an average of $7,096 and a total of $19.5 billion in 2021 alone.
Child support is a murky and confusing subject, especially for first-time divorcees. To make matters worse, the internet and most social circles are riddled with child support myths that could easily lead you astray.
This article will highlight Missouri's most prevalent and misleading child support myths.
One Parent Is Responsible for the Child’s Financial Provisions
Contrary to popular belief, child support is not a one-parent responsibility. Far from that, both parents must contribute to the financial well-being of their children. The prevailing notion is that one parent (usually the dad) is responsible for paying child support.
In Missouri, courts affirm the legal obligation of both parents to support their kid's growth and development. While one parent may stay with the kid, the other pays child support. This can be the mom or dad, depending on the case’s particulars.
The Law Automatically Supports You If Your EX Spouse Fails to Pay Child Support
While the law is clear about child support payments, your ex’s failure to pay doesn’t automatically put the law on your side. Changing financial circumstances sometimes force the parent paying child support to delay payment. In such cases, you can agree to a change in the child support agreement to accommodate the new developments. However, you can hold your partner in contempt of court for failing to pay child support when they’re perfectly capable of doing so.
Child Support Is Automatically Calculated as a Percentage of Your Income
Courts don’t simply calculate a percentage of your ex-spouse’s income as child support. Plenty of factors are considered when calculating the child support figure. These factors include the child’s physical and mental well-being, educational needs, and status. Child support amounts vary from case to case and aren’t based on a simple percentage.
You Won’t Pay Child Support if You Quit Your Job
Missouri courts will unlikely revert your child custody obligations if you quit your job. Remember, rulings on child support are made with the child’s best interest at heart. As such, child support is the child’s right and isn’t subject to the parents’ whims.

Vetoed Legislation: - SB 189 - relating to public safety Governor Parson is vetoing SB 189 due to the following provisions included in the bill: - Section 610.140 - could allow criminals convicted of sexual offenses, including sexual exploitation of a minor or the promotion of child pornography, to have their records expunged and be removed from the sex offender registry. The provisions also include changes to how expungement requests are evaluated but fail to detail specific standards of proof for the court to consider. - Section 650.058 - expands the qualifications for restitution from those who are exonerated based on DNA evidence to those who were later determined to be innocent through a habeas corpus proceeding and those whose convictions are set aside per a prosecutor’s motion to vacate the judgment. The change also increases the restitution amount by more than 75 percent for eligible individuals. - This provision requires the State to pay the expanded and increased restitution requirements; however, Governor Parson does not believe every taxpayer across the State should be responsible for prosecutorial errors made at the local level. "SB 189 contains many public safety measures that we support and would like to sign into law, including Blair's Law, Max's Law, increased penalties for violent repeat offenders and gun crimes, and strengthening the public defender system," Governor Parson said. "However, in this case, these unintended consequences unfortunately outweigh the good. Missourians know I am a law and order Governor and that improving public safety is a cornerstone of our administration, but I cannot sign this bill with these provisions as they are currently written." Recent or current US bills being debated to be signed into law by mostly republican state governments in 2023.
South Carolina: wants to make a woman seeking an abortion a capital offence. Not the only state considering this.
Minnesota and Iowa: wants to deal with workers demanding higher wages by lowering the definition of an “adult” worker to 14, allowing 14 year olds to work as delivery drivers, in construction, mining, ranching, or in meat-packing plants to get around labour shortages.
Idaho: wants to have a ban of drag performances that is so vague, that anyone or any gender wearing any makeup or “Glamorous clothing” while publicly performing in any way could be arrested and added to the sex offenders register. Montana, Arizona, Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia are also seeking drag show bans.
Florida is considering giving courts “Emergency powers” to forcibly take children into care if any adult in their household (including older siblings) comes out as trans or genderfluid. It’s also considering legalizing parental abduction allowing Floridians to cross state lines to kidnap their children if they are receiving gender affirming care in other states, even if they no longer have legal custody over said children.
Texas is trying to block any and all gender affirming healthcare or cosmetic procedure, including reconstructive surgery for after mastectomy on trans Texans, for residents of the state, even if they go out of state for said treatment.
And getting in on this republican madness, Democrat Massachusetts considered letting prisoners sell organs or bone marrow in exchange for sorter sentences. Just... like.... fucking hell.
