The only Yuletide favourite to pivot around an attempted suicide, Capra’s post-war fable is a fascinating melange of social and personal impulses and the questionable charms of home.

I want the origins of Parker’s relationship with Christmas.
I imagine Christmas is complicated for kids in foster care and by all reports her time in foster care was rough, but Parker LOVES it and BELIEVES.
Also, I want to know her reaction to watching “Miracle on 34th st”

ficmas 2022 masterlist
chan
he is just so happy that he gets to spend time with you that he’ll watch whatever you want. any time spent with you is time well spent, so he couldn’t care less what’s on the screen. he’s spending literally the entire time cuddling you while wrapped in the coziest, fuzzy blanket he can find. you spend half the movie saying he’s smothering you, but that's your problem because if you didn’t want to be suffocated by his love, then you shouldn’t have suggested watching a festive movie with your lovey dovey boyfriend.
minho
he has very strong opinions on whatever holiday movie you suggest and will probably argue about why literally any movie you bring up isn’t as good as elf. it is the best movie in his opinion and he will fight anyone (hyunjin) who disagrees. the only exception to this rule is if you say that nightmare before christmas is your favorite movie, in which case he will give you a pass (but you will still be forced to watch elf with him). every year he has an elf watch party with soonie, doongie, and dori and it takes years of fighting (and a bribe to bring elf hats for the cats) before he allows you to join.
changbin
he is a big fan of old timey christmas movies. but specifically the cartoon ones. he loves frosty the snowman and rudolph so so much. he literally has the entire soundtrack for both memorized and will be singing them nonstop for the entirety of the holiday season. he thinks a charlie brown christmas is the funniest movie ever because of the way the teacher talks. he also has a secret soft spot for nightmare before christmas (but don’t let minho know because it’s changbin’s guilty pleasure).
hyunjin
he refuses to watch anything but the classics. he’s exclusively watching films like holiday inn, miracle on 34th st, it’s a wonderful life, white christmas, etc. basically if it was made in this century, he doesn’t even acknowledge it as a movie, much less one that he would watch. it could literally be a holiday cinematic masterpiece, but if it doesn’t fall under the umbrella of what hyunjin considers to be a classic, then he won’t even consider watching it. (when hyunjin catches you watching hallmarks with felix it low key causes a fight.)
jisung
he absolutely loves the santa clause movies, but he basically only watches santa clause 3 because it’s the worst but he thinks its the best. no matter how many times you ask to watch something else, he always goes on and on about the santa clause until you eventually concede and watch some part (if not the entirety) of the trilogy. the best part of the holiday season this year for him was when he heard about the new disney+ santa clause show.
felix
he’s watching hallmark movies basically every single day of the holiday season. for some reason (that you will never understand), he somehow actually enjoys them and finds entertainment value in their cinematic choices. no matter how many times they repeat the same story with the same exact actors, he is always so endeared. even when you try to make fun of them, he always ends up finding a way to turn your insults into compliments. you still watch them with him, though, because you love how much he loves them.
seungmin
just like felix, he is also watching almost exclusively hallmark movies during the holidays. but not because he thinks they are good. it’s for quite the opposite reason. he loves making fun of every last little thing about the movies. like "wait, i thought this woman was a business woman not a starving artist?" or "when is the town christmas festival gonna go into ruin?" or "how will the marginally (not) attractive leads fix it?". you’ve never had more fun in your life than when you’re making fun of hallmark movies with seungmin.
jeongin
he loves absolutely everything about the holiday season, so when you mention movies, he is so down. he has already watched and will re-watch basically every christmas movie ever made. it is a whole event for him. he will have cocoa and cookies and themed snacks ready in less than fifteen minutes if you mention you want to watch movies with him. you will also never watch just one. the second the first one finishes, he already has a recommendation of what you should watch next.

J.T. Walsh Roles - Nice Guys Edition!
Now, we all know he's played a lot of bad or questionable characters, but he's actually played a decent amount of nice or non-scumbag characters!
Starting with who I think is one of the nicest, we have Agent Houston in True Identity (1991), he's a long-suffering FBI Agent who failed to capture a big time crook and has to work with a stage actor in order to finally bring him down. He's a very jaded but very wholesome character who finally shines when he finishes the job he set out to do.
Next, we have Ed Collins in Miracle on 34th St. (1994). Even though he was the prosecuting lawyer, there was no real malice to his character, as anyone would think the same when an old man claims to be Santa Claus! In the end, he still politely asks for Santa to visit his kids at Christmas.
Now we have one of my favourite characters he's ever played (largely for nostalgia reasons!) - Chief Insp. Francis Mahoney in Why Me? (1990). A true no-nonsense cop with no qualms over speaking his mind to whomever is around! He begrudges working with what he deems 'the criminal element' of LA in order to find a stolen Byzantine ring, but does so knowing that only criminals trust other criminals!
We have another cop character with Sheriff Mitch B. Rivers in Silent Fall (1994), who is tasked with finding the killer of two prominent citizens of their little town of Waterville. The only witness is an autistic 10 year old boy who doesn't speak, needing the expertise of local psychiatrist Dr. Jake Rainer. Things unfold and it is discovered that Mitch was actually having an affair with the murdered wife, though thankfully had nothing to do with the murders.
He's a decent enough character, though he admits he's had a wandering eye over the years and his wife clearly knows.
And we have another cop character, Chief Jack Ruhle in Iron Maze (1991). He's the police chief in a dying town since the steel works was closed down. An attempted murder takes place in the old steel works and he's tasked with trying to unpick what led to the attack. Very little is known about his character on a personal level as nothing is revealed other than he's married and seems to be attempting to quit smoking, though this does seem to correlate with a period that J.T. himself was attempting to quit smoking.
We have another of my favourites wth Principal Arnold M. Stoddard in The Beniker Gang (1984). The film was based on a book titled Dear Lola by Julie Angell and the character in the book would probably fit more on the scumbag scale! He was also named Mr. Reedy in the book and seemed to care more about public appearances than the children.
Thanfully, in the film he seems to care more than was originally written, and although not explicitely stated, his concern for the school seems to stem from just how small their town is and how small towns often end up having to send their children to neighbouring town's schools.
Although he might not originally have meant to be a decent character, J.T. brings a wholesomeness to the character and is certainly more personable with the children than in the book.
FBI Agent Jason McThune in The Client (1994) is next. A very dedicated character, but very much the scapegoat to Tommy Lee Jones' Reverend Roy Foltrigg and very much becomes his lackey.
As a character, he works for the FBI based in Memphis, but longs for more interesting areas than chasing Elvis sightings. There's a wholesomeness to him, but he's a little bit weak-minded.
Ah, Lt. Col. Matthew Markinson from A Few Good Men (1992)... A man conflicted between his duty to obey his commanding officer, and his duty to do the right thing by an accidentally murdered private. He ultimately does the right thing, but it costs him his life. A very sad ending to a character with good morals.
Fun Fact - J.T. actually chose this character out of all the supporting roles.
Another of my favourites, and probably @tequilasunrise28 favourite, we have the delectable DEA Agent Hal Maguire in Tequila Sunrise (1988). He's determined to bring down a Mexican drug lord known as Carlos as well as Mel Gibson's character Mac, who has worked for Carlos many times over the years, but who claims to have 'gone straight'. Hal isn't buying it of course, but his investigation is hindered at every turn by Kurt Russell's character Lt. Nick Frescia, who is a friend to Mac.
As thngs inevitably go south, Mexican cop Escalante, whom Hal has been working with to bring down Carlos, is discovered to actually be Carlos, unbeknownst to Hal. He's rightfully infuriated, which is only exacerbated by the fact that both Mac and Nick knew who Carlos was.
He's unfortunately shot in the back by Nick as he's trying to take down Mac after catching him with Carlos.
Out of a bunch of dirty cops, Hal was the only one not working both angles, and yet many reviews talk about him being the problem...
Last in the list we have Sheriff Reese Goodloe in Morning Glory (1993). He's a decent Sheriff, but a terrible husband. He's having an affair with the local waitress, even buying her electrical goods to keep her sweet despite complaining about how he'll explain the money disappearing to his wife.
The waitress turns up murdered, and a newcomer to town played by Christopher Reeves is arrested as he was the last to see her alive and has been inprisoned for murder before.
It's discovered that she had recently had a termination as she'd become pregnant by Reese, but he wasn't responsible for her murder; two random men in town eventually confess during the trial.
Had he been responsible for her murder, this would definitely have tipped him into the scumbag roles list!

Some Abraxas Christmas Qs from me again this year! ;) (1) What are five Abraxas characters' favourite Christmas films? (2) Any characters' Christmas traditions?
Ohoho! Or rather... Ho ho ho~
Just about everyone loves The Muppet Christmas Carol! Who doesn't? "If being mean's a way of life you practice and rehearse/ Then all that work is paying off, 'cause Scrooge is getting worse./ Every day, in every way, Scrooge is getting worse!"
Vivienne will always pop in Miracle on 34th Street or Home Alone. If she's feeling weird, The Green Knight will also get a viewing. Hey, it's set during Christmas!
San enjoys more action-oriented Christmas movies like Anna and the Apocalypse, or Violent Night. Though he also really likes animated movies like Klaus or Arthur Christmas.
Madison's go-to holiday flick is How the Grinch Stole Christmas... but only if it's either the Chuck Jones animated special or the live action Jim Carrey movie!
Mark will flip-flop between Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol (due to watching it with his parents as a kid) and A Christmas Story. (He will argue till the cows come home that Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie because the holiday is incidental at best and it doesn't impart any classic Christmas values!)
Maia will say she likes the classy old movies like Meet Me in St. Louis... but her favorite holiday movie/guilty pleasure is actually The Knight Before Christmas. (Incidentally, that's also Ren's favorite Christmas movie. But not because he thinks it's a good movie! He just familiar with Christmas being a couple's holiday in Japan, and he just happened to end up stuck with Maia one year and they killed time watching Netflix!)
As for traditions, the Russells always had a game of finding a hidden pickle ornament on the Christmas tree, and whoever finds it gets an extra gift later. Vivienne and her mother used to make homemade ornaments and magnetic decorations to put on the fridge. Ren has an unusual not really holiday-related tradition where he assembles one new Gundam model around Christmas, because as a boy he told his dad that when he grew up he wanted to build a giant robot like the ones on TV... so one Christmas, Serizawa gave Ren his first Gundam model as a present. It helped inspire Ren to become the engineer he is today.

There is a lot of believing in Santa based on faith which this lady isn't having and if you swap out Santa for god it's the perfect conversation. Someone should throw the "but you believe in god based on nothing but faith so why is Santa different?"
*gasp* a gay person in a Christmas movie. This one mustn't be one of the wholesome ones. It has potential.

It is 100% OK to admit that a Christmas movie starring The Rock and Chris Evans is probably going to be a dumb, fun, cash grab. It’s supposed to be, it’s a Christmas movie. Two of the most beloved Christmas movies now (It’s A Wonderful Life, and A Christmas Story) were originally box office and critical flops.
Red One will find the audience that it will appeal to, and they will enjoy it every Christmas, people who aren’t its audience will avoid it. Everyone finds the ones they like. I’ll watch The Night Before every single Christmas but watching any version of Miracle on 34th St is like torture to me.

December 14th. Dinner and a movie.
After days of playing in the snow, you really didn't want to go out today, so you and Matthew decided to get Chinese takeout for dinner delivered. That way, the two of you didn't have to go out in the cold weather today.
Matthew ordered all of your favorites from your favorite Chinese restaurant.
After a little while you heard the doorbell and Matthew went and got the door, paid for the food and tipped the delivery man.
You were glad the food was there. You were starving. Looking forward to your Chinese dinner all day.
Matthew went into the kitchen and on bagged all of the food that he ordered. You had never seen so many Chinese cartons in your life, all lined up and down your large kitchen counter.
"what did you order?" you asked looking at all of the cartons.
"All of our favorites Beef and broccoli, fried rice, lo Mein, French fries, egg rolls. And a bucket of duck sauce. I know how much you love it. And I also ask for extra packets of soy sauce and mustard.
You would be lying if you said that you didn't start tearing up in that moment, knowing how much Matthew loves you and pays attention to everything about you, what you like, what you want from the Chinese restaurant.
Both of you grabbed up a bunch of cartons and went over to the living room. Matthew picked Miracle on 34th St. to watch with your dinner tonight.
"Would you like to try to eat your dinner tonight Using these" Matthew smiling as he held up a set of chopsticks.
"Oh honey you know I don't know how to use those. I'm just going to use my fork tonight. I'm starving." you told him.
"ok" he answered looking sad, he really wanted to Teach you how to use chopsticks. And after all, he did so much to make sure that you had a really nice dinner tonight. It's the least that you could do for him.
"ok i will try"
"really?" he asked so happy that you wanted to give it a try.
"Yes, I would love for you to show me how to use them."
Matthew tried repeatedly to show you how to use them. You tried flinging pieces of food on yourself, on Matthew, on the couch. One piece of broccoli actually hitting the TV.
"This reminds me of when I film that scene in Criminal Minds when we were in the Chinese restaurant and I kept flinging food everywhere. I really knew how to use chopsticks. I just thought it would be funnier if I didn't know how to as Reid. But wow, this is yeah, this brings back memories." he laughed.
It was going to take a miracle for you to learn how to use chopsticks.
The two of you had so much fun as Matthew tried to teach you how to use chopsticks. This just proves that anything can be found with Matthew. After about 10 minutes you told him
"Maybe I could learn how to use the chopsticks next time. Honey, I'm starving. I'm just going to use my fork tonight, OK?"
"good idea, i will use a fork too" he laughed.
