WERE SO BACK
THAUMBROS
THE DAY HAS COME.
Sidenote, I did test this with addons, and it does work alright! Thaumcraft has finally updated to 1.12.2. A little late, but I admire the spirit.

so weird to see youtube videos recommended to you like "playing FORGOTTEN minecraft mods" and it's a mod that you just played with yesterday
#rambles#not jojo related#tempted to say ''it's not forgotten you just don't play modpacks that aren't on version 1.16 or above''#i get bored of vanilla super easy so i almost always play with giant modpacks and a lot of my favs are 1.12.2 or occasionally 1.7.10#haven't really messed with the 1.16 ones much#i forget the majority of minecraft players don't play with mods#like when RLCraft was big and that turned people off from modpacks#because it was so hard (really it was just unfair and poorly put together IMO lol)#or they don't know anything past the aether and maybe twilight forest#(the best dimension mod i've ever played is easily the betweenlands but i digress)#i loooove skyfactory roguelike adventures and dungeons and sevtech ages#i like modpacks that give you a branch of objectives and lots of shit to do#keeps me from getting bored while keeping the open endedness of minecraft

Minecraft Game Journal
I forgot to write this after I played.
2 Nights ago I started playing some modded minecraft with some friends, they've been playing on the server for a few days already before I joined. We're playing with the SevTech Ages mod and so far it's been really fun! Also this is my first time even hearing about this mod so I have no clue what to expect.
I started by spawning on the top of a huge mountain surrounded by blue tinted trees and spent some time configuring my settings and controls before one of my friends climbed the mountain and guided me to where everyone had set up.
I was brought into a small encampment where everyone had burrowed into the ground I was shown around then my friend showed me where him and his boyfriend had set up. I was lead back to the main encampment and told how to progress before being left to catch up and learn a bit as everyone else was busy with their own things and also trying to just survive.
I started out by getting myself some flint and knapping it to make myself a basic flint hatchet and flint pickaxe, I chopped down some trees and started on leaning the crafting system which is a little different to vanilla Minecraft.
I died a few time while learning and had to take cover in some of my friends' burrows. I eventually made myself a weapon so I could better protect myself against the now harder monsters of the night. Sometime around here I progressed up a stage.
I eventually built a fire and a grill so I could cook food to better sustain myself, by now I was getting the hang of how the modpack worked and was ready to start setting up my own house.
I found a nice flat area on the other side of some trees nears the main encampment and started getting myself settled by moving my fire and grill, chopping block, and work stump over to where I planned on setting up base, I also built some chests as my inventory was very full.
I started laying the foundation of my house with cobblestone then decided to build myself a mine as I was going to need a lot more resources. I dug myself a hole into the ground to collect more cobble and decided to upgrade my tools from flint to stone.
After a little bit of digging I came across something called Greenschist and instantly fell in love with the cobblestone so I started replacing the foundation of my house with it. I'm also surrounded by a lot of olive trees and so decided to have a look at their planks which turned out to be a beautifully smooth, dirty orange colour and decided to use them for my walls.
This is where I got off as it was getting late and I was also getting tired.
I'm playing again now so there will be another update on this soon.
In the play session I plan on finishing my house and prettying up my mine, I also plan on hopefully progressing up an age and starting a olive tree plantation.

#tag talk#been playing a new minecraft world. went back to 1.12.2 to play Tektopia cause it's still hands down the best colony sim mod I've found.#and honestly it's a lot of fun to play without making big farms or anything. no elytra no iron farm no mob grinder just playing.#I did add the mod that gives you xp from harvesting crops because it makes enchanting gear way more accessible and I like it like that.#I also miss the old ore generation. strip mining isn't very fun so it's nice to be able to dig for all your ores in one place#having to dig for iron at ~y=0 and then dig a second time for iron at - 56 just fucking sucks. and deepslate is cool but sucks to dig throug#anyway yeah I've been just building a starter base first so I've got the resources to build and care for my town starting out#it's gonna be a forest vibe. town hall is gonna be up in a big tree in the center so I've been building that up rn.#oak logs + spruce planks really is pretty much the best combo ever. they look so good. I'm bad at making custom trees though so it's hard#idk what design I'm going for with the ground buildings. I haven't gotten there yet. I'm gonna lay out the paths first and then do buildings#get an idea of the shape of the town before I decide what the buildings are gonna look like when fitting in. lotsa leaf block hedges for sur#I also miss when fishing gave you better enchanted books. it was the best way to avoid having to do villager trading.#I got an autofish mod on latest version (1.20) and spent the entire night fishing with a maxed out fishing rod and got zero mending books#like. I don't want to be forced to do villager trading. they're trying to cut back and balance villager trading.#so why tf can't I get mending anymore. it's stupid.#I also put in a disenchanting mod that lets you transfer enchants from tools onto books so that's a good way to get mending from all those..#all those extra fishing rods and bows that fish up once you already have a maxed one.#I need to make a second rod without luck of the sea so I can fish up more lily pads. I don't need anymore enchanted books#anyway. by I'm gonna go snooze in bed some more

This will be kinda my first actual post on tumblr, so... hi?
My name's missdoirpy and I've been working on an Undertale map in Minecraft for... about five/six years, maybe? On and off. I just wanted to show people the progress I've made, since I've just finished an area!
So I'll just throw these out there
Ruins & Home:
Snowy Forest:
Snowdin:
So this was made in 1.12.2, with several mods (most obvious being chisel and bits lol). It isn't a one-to-one recreation, but I tried my best :)
#undertale#minecraft#apologies for the awkwardness#i'm... very much *not* used to allowing myself to willingly be seen online lol#modded minecraft#minecraft build

Not an anon, but as it’s safe to assume you’re a minecraft player- do you have any must-have mods, or are you more of a vanilla person? Also! What’s your favorite creation!
oh my god thank you for this ask- i LOOOVE mods!! modding has and always will be one of my biggest special interests (majorly because i think mods are an art form crafted by a community that collectively loves a game, so how is that not the coolest thing ever???) so i ABSOLUTELY have mods to recommend. for just like. general improvements/additions that i wish were vanilla, not enough animations, waystones, and quark are some of my faves (honorable mention: do a barrel roll. because it makes the elytra flying really cool.) some of my faves that just Lightly add to the vanilla experience are things like... custom player models (be your fursona in minecraft, almost limitless customizable, there's literally taur bases out there to work off of it's so cool, self explanatory)
friends & foes (adds mobs left behind in votes, like mooblooms, glares, beekeeper villagers, copper golems, ect.)
ANIMANIA!!! animania forever and ever. it's stuck in 1.12.2 BUT it adds so many variants to animals (cows, chickens, pigs, ect.) adds NEW animals (hedgehogs, goats, ferrets, frogs, ect.) AND they all have functionality!!! you can make cheeses and other dairy based goodies, make troughs and salt licks to enrich your animals, and just. aahhh! it's such a wonderful mod i literally can not recommend it enough.
annnd the replay mod & camera utils!! for taking pretty screenshots, if that's your sortta thing :] (both of these were taken using the replay mod)
as for like the BIG BIG mods that really change the game, i'm not super well verse in em, but i looove ice and fire for it's dragons / creatures and better end for it's . everything tbh.
AND FOR FAVORITE CREATION,,, that's really hard to chose! i've spent um. an embarrassing amount of time in minecraft, so i'll just. drop a few screencaps of some builds i like.
this also super made me realize i do NOT take enough screenshots of my complete builds oops x__x aGAIN though thank you so much for this ask it 10000% made my morning. i fuckingmg love minecraft.
#ask#:DDD#legit came into my room to do something quick and instead have been sitting here for 20 minutes looking at my screencaps and smiling#minecraft#feyfoxen#also i got so caught up in mod love i forgot to mention#vanilla minecraft is also wonderful! i just dont play it as much because i. love mods lol#i just think it's neat ( a normal amount) (not about to go on another rant in the tags)

No, Minecraft haven't gotten "worse" over the years. No, new updates haven't "killed" Minecraft. No, Minecraft itself didn't become "boring".
If it was a case, everyone would be still playing on idk a 1.12.2. But no one does that. With every update it gets more painful to play on old versions. I could never reverse to playing without gorgeous mangrove wood, new beautiful terrain and ever useful elytra. And I am not alone. There's a reason people play on newer versions of the game, why modders continue to update their mods newer versions. There's a reason why people are excited for Trial Chambers and new wolves variants. Minecraft only gotten more fun.
I'm sorry to be the one who breaks it to you, but if you think Minecraft is boring now it's one of the two: 1) You're playing Minecraft wrong or 2) Minecraft is not a game for you.
1.You're playing Minecraft wrong. Which is, admittedly, a pretty hard thing to do in my opinion. Minecraft is a game about getting resources and using them to create your own world. It's a sandbox of which you are the sole player (or not, if you are in multiplayer), where you challenge yourself on what next amazing thing you can create. You can be a builder, making castles and spaceships, you can be a redstoner be it a practical redstone or logic redstone, you can be a modder making your own little elements, adding them to the game in a way you would like (a bit of a more advanced hobby than the others). You can join public servers to play entirely vanilla mini-games. Become a parkour master or pvper on the different public servers. Call your friends and make a private multiplayer world, where you race each other in resources or work together to create something, prank each other, build elaborate traps, escape rooms anything and everything.
The goal of the game is NOT to kill the Ender Dragon. The goal of the game is NOT to get maxed out netherite gear. The goal of the game is NOT to get every achievement even, but achievement hunting CAN be a fun game to play with your friends. Or speedrun all of the achievements/to kill end dragon, trying to optimize your skills.
Otherwise killing the ender dragon, getting a full gear and equipment are just part of the experience. Just like fishing, mining, getting wood. Minecraft is Not an rpg, where you go on quests to finish a main plotline, where you level up and monsters get harder, no. All hard content is Optional. That's the point. Not to say irrelevant when we talk minigames servers. Minecraft is a sandbox, survival is just one of the gamemodes.
2.Minecraft is not a game for you.
And that's OK! Although Minecraft is a beautiful game, it may not be for you. The games that are for everyone, are for no one. Not all games born equal in the eyes of a player. You probably like other games! Like Terraria or Starbound, maybe you enjoy Zelda games, maybe you are a Genshin player. They are very different games, if you bored playing Minecraft, it's time close it and to play something you enjoy.
#> tired shitpost#anyway#rant over#mc rant again yes yes#im just so tired of people dooming a game that's going to outlive their children

Theres a trend I've noticed with the current era of minecraft modding.
It's a sort of... professionalism? We're seeing a lot more mods made by large teams rather than single creators. Theres also a lot more focus - theres a definite trend of larger mods with many distinct features being split up into multiple separate mods for each distinct feature, if that makes sense. That's probably largely driven by curseforge's revenue scheme - I guess it's more profitable to have 5 mods with 1 main feature and a million downloads each, than 1 mod with all 5 features and a million downloads.
I don't know if this corresponds to the latter trend or the former but theres a definite increase in library mods - mod makers are building a lot more infrastructure for their work but each team is building their own library.
And I really don't know how I feel about all this.
This trend of professionalism has lead to an increase in quality but it feels like its come at the cost of creativity - theres an obsession with fitting into the vanilla game, both mechanically and artistically. It feels like modern mods are focused on expanding and fleshing out the vanilla game in a cohesive way, in stark contrast to how earlier mods used vanilla as just a platform to build their own stuff. And I feel like this is a good thing, but I also feel sad for what came before.
And I really think you can trace this change back to minecraft's change in artstyle. Programmer Art is aptly named - the original graphics were quick and dirty textures thrown together so they could get on with making the actual game. And this fostered a lot of creativity in the modding community - a community largely comprised of programmers - who could imitate this artstyle very easily. The new artstyle is great, don't get me wrong, but it pressures modmakers to match it. This means the old generation of simply textured box machines look out of place in the new graphics. When the old graphics were simple it didn't feel wrong to have something wildly different thrown in there - think Thaumcraft's inexplicably 128x128 textures in a 16x16 game, or whatever the fuck was happening with draconic evolution - whereas the obvious thought and care put into the official art makes anything even remotely out of place look wrong.
This is definitely a factor in the increase of larger teams - it's a lot harder for one person to make a whole mod and a whole set of cohesive textures. And when something looks professional theres a pressure to make it function professionally as well - if it's going to fit in with the vanilla game visually it's going to have to fit in mechanically as well.
And again, I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing - indeed, this could all just be a result of the modding community maturing. But I do have some problems with it:
Firstly, I think its notable that previous eras of modding are associated with a specific version - 1.6.4, 1.7.10, 1.12.2. That's not the case now. There seems to be a lot more pressure to update to the latest version, which is combined with a sudden increase in vanilla update frequency. I think this has pretty drastic consequences. When the modding scene stayed still, as it did in 1.7.10 and 1.12.2, theres a lot of time for mods to get used to each other. Think back to 1.7.10 where magic mods were including references and counters to each other. With the much faster development to get every mod updated to the latest version with different mods getting updated at different times theres much less opportunity for intrinsic cross mod compatibility. This is combined with the recent split between fabric and forge, resulting in mods that ironically look very similar but with much less conscious compatibility.
Theres also something off about the art style. Theres a sort of shared style that you see across a lot of popular mods right now. It's not just that they look like vanilla textures - because in large part they look more like each other than they do vanilla. Idk if that makes sense. It's like theres a consistent artstyle for mods that is ever so slightly different from the art style of vanilla.
And this, of course, brings us to the elephant in the room.
They all look like fucking Create.
I said earlier that I thought these changes could all be traced back to the change in vanilla artstyle - and I still think that's true - but when you're tracing it back the line inevitably runs through that one mod.
Create was huge. Back when modding was still getting used to the artstyle changes, Create I think solidified the entire era. It was an aesthetically pleasing, stylistically cohesive, mechanically balanced and technically astounding mod. It was big enough to draw attention from vanilla players who had never played modded before then, bringing them in with expectations formed by it. Which, in turn, created a pressure in the community to replicate this success.
I'm gonna be honest - Create annoys me. I dislike the artstyle. I dislike the obsession with aesthetics and vanilla-like gameplay over functionality. I especially dislike how its found in literally every modpack for recent versions.
But (reluctantly) putting aside my dislike of Create, I begrudgingly admit that all in all, these trends are overall good for modding. As I said earlier, they're a sign of a maturing community. But I'll still miss how mods in earlier eras were much more free to be completely batshit, or pure functionality (rftools and mahou tsukai come to mind as mods that have largely ignored the changes in the community). Every era has it's own feel and if what's new isnt for me, that's fine. Maybe I'm just old and bitter and this is all in my own head - I'm not a modder, I've just been playing this game a long time.
