Yes. I pray for the 110 or so israeli and immgrant hostages assumed to still be alive. And I also pray for the hundreds of Palestianian hostages arrested without charge in Israeli prisons assumed to be alive.

I pray for a ceasefire so that the Israeli hostages are released. I also pray for the end of Israeli apartheid government, so that Palestianians are liberated.

Why does china even have a ministry for national defense when it has no control over the military, which is a party organ. You're just wasting public funding at that point

Actually, the CMC is technically both a party and state organ, and operates simultaneously as the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China, as well as the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China (of which the Ministry of National Defense is a child organisation). In any case, the purpose of the Ministry of National Defense is international liason, diplomacy, and the conduct of military attachés.

I know little about the stuff of states. What strings do you think could go with the US' military support to Ukraine? I am not asking for proof or evidence, just some examples of what the US could be asking Ukraine in turn.

alright so--it's important not to think of this conspiratorially. a lot of people, when they hear 'US aid has strings attached', imagine a shadowy figure on the phone with zelensky saying 'oh, we'll help you in this war... but you have to do something for us...'. but it is usually¹ more structural than that. for example, i think we can all agree that if ukraine were to unconditionally surrender to russia, that would be bad.

but there are a huge range of other conditions that could be pursued as prerequisites or preferences for a peace treaty--and when the US & friends make ukraine's military effort dependent on their continued support, and then publicly declare support for maximalist war aims like 'punishing' russia, reannexing crimea, or arresting putin, they incentivise the ukrainian state to pursue those goals militarily and diplomatically & strengthen the political capital of these maximalists and militarists within ukraine compared to more moderate factions.

then there is--of course--the fact that all the weapons and planes and so on given to the ukrainian military (including a lot of nazis!) aren't going to go anywhere. by putting them in the hands of a US-aligned government and their allies (which, again, include a lot of nazis), the US is materially strengthening that political wing in ukraine for decades to come no matter what the outcome of the war. like, influencing through resource provision in international politics rarely means 'giving people stuff to make them align with you'--rather, it means 'giving the people who already align with you stuff'.

so tldr: by provisioning the ukrainian state to fight this war and expressing specific policy goals wrt russia, the USA is de facto materially promoting those policy goals within the ukrainian government and military, as well as materially promoting the power & influence of said government and military over its citizens!

First of all, 'Abnegatory" is the perfect word for Fareeha and bless you. It's been forever since I heard it and it was a balm to my soul.

Second of all, I know in my heart of hearts that she always has something like this on hand, and chalky-tasting protein bars with great macros. The MREs are expensive and actually for situations that call her to draw upon them, but the shitty protein bars are the first thing she offers to anyone who wants to stop because they're hungry.

Whenever I cross these two worlds over I have to decide what age everyone is in relation to each other, and for this it was just more fun to have a young and dumb haruka who is still obsessed with the idea of her own masculinity and how others might think about it. Especially up against both Fareeha, who is annoyingly tall and muscular and angular and an anchor of a human being, and then, on the other hand, Lena, who is so self-possessed and comfortable with herself that she can be short and wiry and delicate boned and none of it really matters to her, which gives her a careless butch Peter Pan sort of winning rougeish charm that, much to haruka's chagrin, somehow ALSO seems to best her. They are both somehow WINNING, and she's too young and in her own head to realize that it's because neither of them are keeping score. Sure, Fareeha may be frustrated that Lena has such a charismatic air, and Lena wouldn't mind being taller, but neither of them thinks all that much about how it reflects on them being "butch enough".

Which only makes Haruka crazier.

And yeah, one of my favorite things to play with is the idea that you can't trust yourself, always a good time for me.

ahahah thank you, I wanted to do something about the house being asleep or waking up or something something with Lena and finally one night at 3 am lying in bed it came to me that with Lena spending so much time with her cousins, sharing a room with all of them like I did with my cousins, in a fellow unwealthy family, she would be keenly aware of what it was like to know someone was playing asleep. Worked out!

saw a post on my dash abt veterans and i really don’t wanna discourse w the op bc nuance is hard online so im making a new post

basically the op was saying they sympathize w veterans who are like “yeah doing your time in the military is a scam etc” but lose that sympathy when they continue to say “but i really needed the money” ‘as if they are the real victims here, as if that makes killing people okay’ in op’s words

and like. i think it can be both. i think people can be conned into doing time in the military because the government pays you to do it but offers you special privileges when you get out*; free college, healthcare, job placements… things that, if you are a person in poverty, are very attractive and enticing to you if you want to try and bootstrap yourself out of being poor

i think, in some cases, the veterans are also a victim in the situation. their government held a comfortable life* over their heads that they would never be able to get on their own, and said government forced them to kill other humans to even put a finger print on that life.

i am not saying that the people who died are not also victims, or somehow the victimhood of the two parties are the same. one is still alive and one is dead. the one who is dead is obviously the greater victim.

but i think it’s disingenuous to write off veterans who say “the army sucks and is a scam, but i really needed the money” - it doesn’t justify killing people in any way whatsoever, but i also don’t think these same people would have killed anyone if they thought they had another choice

*of course, the life offered has many strings attached and is never as nice as the one pictured in the brochure
