New photographs of the last Romanov family (scroll to see them all!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of the photographs were previously only available for viewing in very low resolution - see these photos for before vs after to show the difference!

The photos mostly originate from the meetings of the Romanov family with their Hessian relatives: the Tsarina’s brother Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig, his wife Grand Duchess Eleonore, and their children, Georg Donatus and Ludwig. Photographs include the family on the Standart yacht, in the Livadia Palace dining hall, and at events greeting the public, from around 1910 to 1912.

The Romanov Martyrs
I wanted to put together a little memorial that included all the members of the Romanov Family (as well as the members of their staff) that were murdered by the Bolshevik terrorists. This seems like a good week to keep them in our minds. Although we love and mourn the children especially, there were others we cannot forget.
Tsar Alexandre II was hunted down until finally blown to pieces.
Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna lost two sons and five grandchildren (no wonder she could not accept they were dead)
Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich was also hunted down and blown to pieces
Three Mikhailovichi brothers were murdered
Four Konstantinovichi were murdered, three of them brothers; I cannot imagine what their mother, Grand Duchess Elizabeth Mavrikievna, went through...and so on.
May they rest in peace.

"In those days there were five cousins, Nicky, Georgie, Xenia, Misha, and Olga, who was quite small. Nicky we always loved and admired, although, being older, he was rather beyond our reach in those days.
"Already, at that early age, he had that gentle charm and that kind, caressing look in his eyes, which was his all through life till the day of his tragic death. Kindly and peace-loving, he did not seem cut out for a fate so horrible.
"Georgie, like my mother’s eldest brother, died of consumption as quite a young man, somewhere in the Caucasus I believe. Xenia was a dear chum, being a year older than I was. The other two Misha and Olga, were younger than we." — Marie of Romania

OTMA + selfies
The girls seemed to love taking what we now call in the modern day, selfies! There are some photos of their parents (and uncle Misha 🤭) doing it so it seems that they learned from them!
