Wednesday, May 10: Primal Rock Rebellion, “Savage World”
Primal Rock Rebellion’s sole album was a genuine departure for Adrian Smith: as a writer and guitarist in Iron Maiden as well as with his previous side projects, Smith’s tastes tended to be direct, hook-driven and even radio-friendly in his way, but Awoken Broken was drenched in down-tuned guitars, pummeling drums and Mikee Goodman’s harsh vocals.  Indeed, it said something that “Savage World” was arguably the lightest tune on the album but still out-heavied anything Smith ever did with Maiden, certainly since he rejoined the band in 1999.  Goodman was perhaps the bigger star here, as he didn’t significantly change up his vocals from his time with djent pioneers Sikth, but at the same time, Smith couldn’t help but inject his trademark fluidity, even if his playing was as aggressive as it’s ever been.  In all honesty, even though “Savage World” did have its pleasures, this wasn’t the sort of sound that could sustain itself, and it made perfect sense that both Smith and Goodman would quickly return to their day jobs.

Out now! Pitchshifter have released a 2020 song collaboration (“EFKD 2020”) with members of CLAWFINGER, Static-X, Misery Loves Co, Frank Turner, Bullet for My Valentine, Skindred, Fear Factory, Hacktivist, Stamping Ground, Earthtone9, Romeo Must Die, SikTh, Raging Speedhorn and Seething Akira! Pitchshifter vocalist JS Clayden says: “I thought that everything was as messed up as it was going to get in the year 2000 when we originally released the ‘Everything’s F**ked’ single; but we're two decades down the road and the lyrics are still applicable. We’re living in a slow-motion apocalypse. What better way to finally jockey clown ship earth off the bluffs than a re-issue of a 20-year-old tune lamenting the madness with a bunch of like-minded deviant provocateurs, and some UK dates?” The single: “EFKD 2020” features Zak Tell of CLAWFINGER, Tony Campos of Static-X, Patrik Wiren of Misery Loves Co., Frank Turner, Jason Bowld of Bullet for My Valentine, Arya Goggin of Skindred, Burton C Bell of Fear Factory, Jot Maxi of Hacktivist, Adam Frakes-Sime of Stampin' Ground, Karl Middleton of Earthtone9, Paul Fletcher of Romeo Must Die, Mikee Goodman of SikTh, Dan Cook and Frank Regan of Raging Speedhorn & Kit Conrad and Charlie Bowes of Seething Akira. SikTh release “No Wishbones“ single
by Malchior / February 10, 2017
The legendary UK-based progressive metal titans SikTh have just unleashed their brand new single “No Wishbones” from their forthcoming album.
Speaking of the song, vocalist Mikee Goodman says that “No Wishbones was inspired by travelling to many places around the world and seeing the extremes of poverty and how some people have to live their lives; whilst also observing the financial wealth of others in those very places. It affected me deeply.  Anyway, the song is just a reflection, I say in the lyrics I am just a commentator observing, like many of us.”
The single comes from the the upcoming album to be released on the 26th of May via Peaceville Records, which will be SikTh’s first full-length album since 2006′s Death of a Dead Day. Listen to “No Wishbones” below:
