It’s a rare double-deluxe Omega for the 4th of July weekend. We take over for Sound Vines this week for four hours of new, current, and relevant hip-hop. First half: new soldiers, electronic, cloud rap, and beat tapes. Second half: golden-era veterans, backpackers, AAA-producers, and legends no longer with us. From innovative artists JPEGMAFIA, Nnamdi Ogbayanna, Moor Mother, and clipping. to the respectable Rakim, R.A. The Rugged Man, DMX and the Griselda camp, no one leaves disappointed.
Have a happy and safe 4th of July. We return in ten days.
July 14, 2021 (12AM New York City): bonus Omega.
July 17, 2021 (10PM New York City): deluxe Omega.
July 28, 2021 (12AM New York City): bonus Omega.

« Pray For Haiti » de Mach-Hommy
« Bo Jackson » de Boldy James & The Alchemist
« The Melodic Blue » de Baby Keem
« Life of a DON » de Don Toliver
« Weight of the World » de Maxo Kream

kes — the grey goose wing, 2007

"Time Will Tell" by MIKE & Darryl Johnson
The Bronx rapper MIKE has wonderful things inside him—Earl Sweatshirt’s vocabulary, Lil B’s heart—and he lets them drift through his music like balloons slipping from his fingers. The 19-year-old’s delivery is bemused and calm, giving you the strange sensation that he is standing next to you listening to his words as carefully as you are.
His new song, “Time Will Tell,” is a smear of color and tone, and MIKE raps for a few minutes inside of it, leaving some lovingly crafted details, like his auntie literally thumping him with a Bible when he nods off in church. It lasts just two minutes: The track is less a beat than a wind tunnel, a little hiding place. The video, which MIKE (real name: Mike) shot himself, mirrors this childlike intimacy. He peeks at us from beneath sheets as VCR tracking warps the screen. There is no chorus, just one verse that trails off. But it reverberates.
Directed by Michael J. Bonema Shot by Camden Maalik & Jacob Melendez Production by Darryl Johnson
