do you ever think about a specific lost/unfinished media, and how it's got so much care/attention/detail in it, but you'll NEVER KNOW how it was going to resolve its story??
bro Mighty Space Miners is really good
#Mighty Space Miners#anime#OVA#Oira Uchuu no Tankoufu#it's on the lost media wiki so I'm going to count it as lost by technicality#no one knows if they made more material besides the two episodes of a planned six? that exist#ep 4 was apparently titled Facism if that tells you anything about the stakes in this OVA#(it should but it also doesn't bc the stakes never leave the 100s range halfway through the first episode)#like holy shit now that I'm an adult I can actually comprehend the stakes#it's one of those OVAs I grew up with bc of my dad but that no one else in my friend group had heard of#but I was younger than the protagonist when I first watched it (he's 12)#so I missed the details like... the mining operation is owned by a corporation#the corporation installed a nuclear bomb in the middle of the mining operation as a failsafe for ??? reasons#the mining base is in a deteriorating orbit that's headed directly for earth's atmosphere#earth may possibly have decided fuck them and threw a warhead at them at the start of the OVA#and so on. these are things I can appreciate about the narrative and say the stakes just keep escalating#ep 2 ends with a 'to be continued' and I FUCKING WISH IT DID#but this came out in 1994 and it's never gotten completed rip#anyway yeah I watched it twice this month I have access to the video file I cannot be stopped

What about accidentally sitting on obey me brothers face??
Accidentally Sitting On Their Face | Yandere Obey Me!
Lucifer
“How in the Devildom did you end up like this?!”
“I don’t want to point fingers but it was-”
“Mammon? I’m going to kill him, just hold tight I’ll get up the steps to get you.”
“No! Agh I’m slipping!”
“(Y/n)!”
He just so happened to find you hanging on the railing of the mansion during their stay in the human world
But the human world has a tendency to make you slow
So it didn’t really occur to him to transform and fly up to you
All he mustered at the time was catching you himself
He might have miscalculated as you sat firmly on his face
“Ahhh Luci! I’m so sorry!”
Horrified you spring up
letting him gain his bearings as he wiped imaginary dust off his pants
“I wished we could save such activities for the bedroom but if you insist.”
He’s usually so composed when you try to tempt him
But your boldness just gets the best of him
“Where are you going, we’re not done here.”
Mammon
“Go ahead (Y/n) just grab as much as you can! I have a whole bag!”
“Okay okay just don’t squeeze too hard!”
If it weren’t for his ultimate goal of getting the mineral deposit he would have been indulging in the intimacy of holding you up
Trying to push yourself up higher you wobbled with a loss of balance
Coming crashing down on the avatar of greed
“Oh, my–Mammon are you okay? Can you breath at all.”
“Mmmm~”
He can’t
But why would he when he’s deeply focused on suffocating in your scent
He would have never had a chance otherwise
He whines when you lift up from him
Turning his head when you question the attitude change
When he gets more confident he’ll ask you to do it on purpose
“Come on, lucky charm! It’s for luck in the casino! Don’t you want to give me luck!?”
Satan
It’s all his fault
This man would sooner murder his brother with a ‘prank’ than clean his room
Even when you decide to actually come to hang out in his room
It’s a given that you slip while he’s nose-deep in this latest book
Providing the perfect distraction for a demon otherwise too focused to even think about the cleanliness of his room
“Ahh ouch! But of course, I would slip because you don’t clean…Satan?”
“...”
“Why is it so hot down…Ah, Satan!? Are you okay?”
“...Yes, I just…give me a minute…”
He’s spacing out for the rest of the week replaying the moment over and over again
It’s appalling how unprepared for this he is
Practically high on ecstasy for a week
He needs to get himself together if not for your sanity than for his own
“Y-you want me to sit on your face?”
“Yes, this is the perfect form for exposure therapy. So that hopefully next time this should happen I’ll be better able to handle it.”
He never will
Leviathan
Similar scene
It's dark he leaves a lot of things laying around
And when he’s forcing you to sit in his lap for hours at a time
When you finally get up your plummeting right back down
Providing Levi with the plush softness of your butt
Now as long as he’s not on a checkpoint who are we kidding he’d be happy even still
“Mmmmmm!”
“Aaaaaaaa!!”
“OmigoshOmigoshOmigoshOmigosh you’re on top of me! I’m in you! Aaahhh this is just like that scene from the Rurichan!!! This is my moment!”
He’s oddly hyped
He takes it as a reward for some of the instant kill missions he’s completed in your name
Rationalizing that you're too wonderful, too mighty to tell him directly
So this is your little way of thanking him
So excuse his forceful behavior when you try to get up
“L-levi you can’t keep doing this! You’ve got to let me go!”
“Nope! I’m reaping the conquest of my grinding…ha ha..in life I mean.”
Asmodeus
“Whoa you almost got it (Y/n)~! Just keep looking~!”
“Is it really far back, I can’t seem to–eh?! Asmo you’re holding the latter right?”
“Huh-uh!”
Totally orchestrates the scenario
He’s been thinking about it for a while
And cuddling just isn’t doing it for him anymore
Rather he’s looking for some new material to jerk himself off to
He’s very much still into cuddling, he’s just peeved he got caught
“Ooops~!”
“Ah!”
Landing perfectly on his face, Asmo is so pleased he actually did the math for this
He squishes his face into your crevices
Unrefutably sniffing as he holds your shocked self in place
Maybe even a lick or two or twenty
“Ah~Asmodeus! S-stop it! Let me up!”
“Ahh~! I wish I could see your face~but I’m a little busy!”
Beelzebub
“What are you going up there?”
“Dang it Beel, this is my stash! I–whoa!”
“(Y/n)!” He catches you
But with his face
True to form he doesn’t necessarily pick up on the implication
But he knows one thing
“Mmmhmhmh!”
“Beel! Don’t try to talk to me just let me-”
“But it smells good here…can I–”
“No Beel! Stop! Let go of my–Ah! Don’t use your teeth!”
He acts like a starving animal trying to get a taste
Either give him a taste or throw him a bone
“I just really like that feeling…I want to feel it again.”
Belphegor
It's known that Belphie sleeps anywhere
Not only that
He walks in his sleep
So it isn’t bizarre that he ends up sleeping where you might be sitting
“Oh my gosh, Belphie-? What?”
“Zzzzz stay–zzz”
He’s not letting go
No matter how hard you pull or try to unhook his fingers
It makes you wonder if he’s even sleeping at this point
“Oh? (Y/n) what are doing…”
“I accidentally…sat here but then you wouldn’t let me go…but now that your awake can you let me–”
“Nope.”
“What?!”
“I think I’ll turn you around but I’m not letting you go.”

It's story time at Brickcentral and we are proposing a new collab, with a new format. We formed a group of photographers who had to choose sets from a selection belonging to a specific theme and build three distinct stories, each with something in common that could connect them in some way.
The theme chosen was the brand new City Space, and after a call for action on our Discord server, we invited @jbarchietto and TPG Macro, along with a moderator, which in this case was me. After all, a new format needed to be tested firsthand. Here's the first story by TPG Macro, but stay tuned for the other 2:
"On a far off asteroid, brave adventurers make a thrilling discovery but… they’re not alone!
With the discovery of these precious crystals they bring out their mighty command rover to excavate this mineral-rich landscape.
After running tests at their mobile lab it's clear that these gems aren’t just for looks but they’re also a great source for energy!
Mining is a breeze with help from their handy robot companion.
Alien plants and energy crystals galore! The rest of the team will never believe this! Better snap a few pictures.
Hopping from asteroid to asteroid a little green watcher is never too far behind.
With their spaceships charged up and ready to fly it's time to report back to home base and tell the others about their amazing discovery.
3, 2, 1, and we have liftoff!
With its main thrusters engaged the interstellar cruiser zips through the vast nebula.
And with a stowaway on board the adventure has only begun…"
If you want to read the complete story and go behind the scenes visit the blog post And also please do check out their profiles where you'll find more excellent photography by each of them! But stay tuned because the story does not concludes here!

Preliminary Poll - Opal Varieties
More information under the cut!
Opal! Opal is technically NOT a mineral because it lacks one of the defining traits of minerals - a specific, ordered internal structure. Opal is amorphous, so the atoms are arranged randomly, they don't have a pattern to them that would make opal a mineral!
Chemically, opal is hydrous silica. Something fun about the preliminary polls is that aside from tourmaline and jade, all the other minerals included are essentially variations of quartz, which is really just silica. The chemical formula for quartz is SiO2 and the chemical formula for opal is SiO2 with H2O.
Opals in general are known for their iridescence (the shiny colors that change when you rotate an opal in your hand). This iridescence happens BECAUSE opal is not a mineral; the random internal structure makes it so that light reflects in all kinds of crazy ways.
About the listed opals themselves, Australian opals are the most common, because most opal comes from Australia. Australian opal is probably what most people think of when they think of opal: shiny, with bright pastel colors.
Ethiopian opals, meanwhile, tend to have more fiery colors (think fire opals) and are also hydrophane which means they absorb water.
Harlequin opals are opals where the iridescence looks like geometric shapes. Unfortunatly, I don't know what is happening on the microscopic level that creates these rhombohedral shapes in harlequin opals. Most of the information I'm sharing in these posts is stuff I already know from the classes I had to take in undergrad, or introductory-level facts that I've been able to summarize from Wikipedia pages or Mindat.org pages. That being said, I'm always willing to learn from people who know more than me or to do more of my own research if people have questions and aren't sure where to start looking (hint: Wiki and mindat are great places to START your research, regardless of what high-and-mighty teachers might say).
Lastly, opalized fossils are fossils where the organic material from a previously living organism is replaced by silica (in this case, specifically opal). Most often, fossils form when minerals of some kind (silica, carbonates, pyrite, etc) fill in the empty spaces of a dead organism, like the inside of a snail or bivalve shell. The opalization of fossils is only one way this process, called permineralization, can occur, but it sure is pretty!

Okay oc lore time
Jonny Quest the real adventures and the direct to video scooby movies takes place in the same universe. Myra is friends with the Quest Kids and Jessie Bannon.
Reboot (the cgi cartoon from 1994) also takes place in the same universe; Mainframe can access QuestWorld. Race Bannon flirted with Hexidecimal much to the horror of everyone else.
Swat Kats take place on another planet (nearly canonized in a scrapped ending for one of the episodes). I have a SK OC who works as the Kats' mission control/backup member.
Beau is a government agent who got cursed by the evil werecats; after their defeat died he was cured but had to send all his findings to the Quests so they can help the victims' families find closure. He then goes on to be an informant for various super teams.
Skysurfers also exists because that show was made by the same creators of Scooby Doo; Jack Hollister's father used to be lab partners with Dr. Quest.
Acceleracers takes place in the same universe due to being made by the same folks who made Reboot (being Canadian productions irl).
Mainframe and Cyberspace (of Cyberchase fame) may be linked, technically considers Mainframe a Site.
Gen 13 (mix of comics & the animated film) is set in the same verse. Unlike the movies Matthew Callahan doesn't die but remains under the custody of John Lynch; also he doesn't rejoin Ivana as he did in the comics. Also, unlike the comics Gen 13 actually has 13 members. They rotate time from time. Matthew is forced to be a part to undo the damage he caused working as Ivana's underling. Caitlyn is not his sister, his siblings are Sarah and Nicole as in the comics. Cait and Roxy are half sibs.
Im not sure if I want TFA in the same verse but for the sake of it yes; the year is current but still with the theme of Detroit rebuilding, to go along with Animated's theme of redemption
Jackie Chan Adventures are set in same verse as the 2006 legion of superheroes, the 03 Teen Titans, Xiaolin Showdown, and 2004 Batman.
GI Joe Sigma Six is set in the same verse as TFA.
GI Joe Renegades and Transformers Prime are set in the same verse detached from Sigma Six and TFA.
Universal's Monster Force is set in same verse as JQTRA and Scooby Doo
The 2000s Mummy and Tintin take place in the past; 1930s at the earliest. Bayformers and the live action Joes take place in that timeline's future.
Mummies Alive take place in San Fran and likely set in the future of the Mummy cartoon. It also takes place in the same verse as the 90s King Kong & Godzilla cartoons.
My Descendants rewrite takes place in a world where the heroes never agreed to send villains on the Isle. Instead the isle is simply a mysterious place said to harbor riches beyond legend.
Gargoyles, Atlantis, The Mighty Ducks cartoon, BLOSC, and OUAT takes place in the same verse. BLOSC is set in space and has a ranger from the same planet the Swat Kats come from
Osmosis Jones is in its own solar system based on organic body parts. Its "star" pulses like a heart beat. Sorry but I hate Bill Murray.
Loonatics Unleashed takes place in the same time period of the regular looney tunes; instead of being descendants theyre distant cousins. Acmetropolis is a mega city using Sumdac Tech
Zadavia comes from a planet English translaters describe as Freleng. The common export is energy crystals and its rocky deserts is a haven for geologists and unlucky miners everywhere
The civil war was sparked by General Deuce and Optimatus's betrayal

I really love dactylic hexameter, (technically dactylic duodecameter) it's so annoying but so fun. I might write the whole book like this.
🌊🌋🧝🏽♂️🧝🏽♀️🌋🌊
The son of Ivaldi, king Torvyn of Falu lay as if dying, with his wife by his side
Thora the daughter of the field and the forest doomed in her dreams was his spring born bride
For long had it been since she first heard the whisper a prophecy echoed from a space beyond time
For all that was green and all that was growing bent towards a fate where futures align
Long passed were the days, when reeling with terror the elven maid sought out Ivaldi’s son’s feet
And struck with compassion, the wise lord of Falu in her green eyes did sorrow meet.
For in those days his house was ennobled, across the ancient Earth
None were so blessed as the sons of Ivaldi in their wisdom or their worth
For in the time of the elven king’s epoch they learned the secret ways
and captured the spark of the lord of the lightning and the storm cloud grey
For it was wise Torvynd who spun the gold plaits to crown high heaven’s queen
So it was that the goddess sent out far sighted Thora to fix in fate her dream
“oh, son of Ivaldi, born of fire and water, who spun the golden tress
Heed ye my words for the works of your hands, may curse as well as bless
The ocean will boil the heavens will rage and all things will find their end
Lest you turn aside from the green growing earth and hide from the face of men.”
Hearing the words of the maid of the woodlands, the king looked at last on the earth.
Weeping for all that his works might destroy and wondering at their worth
For mankind in that age were simple and harmless, to a fairy king of ore and ice
The oceans were empty, the stars clear and ancient and he wondered at the awful price
Gathering round his wandering people, cast away from Ivaldi’s doomed shore
He stood beside the prophetess maiden, and spoke to them the grim news that she bore.
So was the realm of fair Falu buried, far beneath the earth where men would not delve
And over its gates and its deep, sacred cloisters, spells were laid in layers twelve
but mighty Havad, that spear wielding warrior, for his brother was dismayed
for it seemed that kind Torvynd had banished his wisdom, and into folly strayed
so were the brothers for many years sundered, and as the eldest before
Who sailed his ship across the ocean to seek some long imagined shore
Tended they their kingdoms for many long centuries and ever deeper made Myrkalfar home
By the green grace of queen Thora’s own power, by electrical lamps which glittered and shone
The Myrkalf of Falu established in grandeur, a realm carved from bedrock both secret and deep
But over the lives of the dark elven people their queen’s warning words would echo and creep
In peace they had dwelled through the echoing centuries binding their long lives to the ore and the stone
Seeking for allies King Torvynd Ivaldi, found that in his need, he was quite alone
Rough were the picks and the shovels of mortals, but just as had spoken his wife
Doom had at last found the high king of Falu, and she begged the gods for his life
For an age had the king’s peaceful will kept him sundered from a brother fond of slaughter
Havad in his folly wed his bitterest rival, Brekke the ring maker’s daughter
Bound for so long to the earth and the metals king Torvynd grew weak to his death
For the heart of the king was made of bright copper and it trembled in his breast
“Who will now go to seek aid from those sundered, the House of the Ring and the Spear?”
The noble queen asked with her grandchildren gathered, close so they might hear.
Vigi it was, the oldest and bravest of Torvun Ivaldi’s sons
Who first ventured forth from dark Myrkalfheim, to seek again the sun
Years in the dark had changed them and made them pale and strange to see
And the men who had once looked upon them in wonder turned their backs to flee
Vigi son of Torvynd fell at the cruel hands of a miner with a sharpened rough tool
That which was ancient and dearly beloved fell by the hand of an ignorant fool
Even in his grief, King Torvynd Ivaldi would not doom the foolish men
So on the still night of the high midsummer his sadness shook the earth again
The deeply delved mines of industry driven to scratch up flakes of shining ore
turned the queen’s augurs to history written in the cruel annals of war
The tunnels came crumbling down all together, sealing the place where Myrkalfheim hid
But short were the days, as his power waned, and council soon the wise king bid
The Son of Ivaldi, King Torvyn of Falu, lay as if dying, with his family near
For a mortal had knocked on his doors made of stone and all within could hear
“Who will go out, from our fortress of stone, to brave again the cruel earth?
who will seek out my long sundered brother and prove to me their worth?”
“I will go father.” Said the voice of the youngest, Kavas the bright eyed grandson of the king
“for I have never seen the sky or the water, we know nature only in songs that we sing
Long I have learned the story of starlight, and wondered long at the myth of Mankind
Let me go forth to find word of your brother, let me go forth to enrich my own mind.”
Torvyn wept at the words of the boy who had lived not one hundred years in his realm
“I would not have your life put in danger my child,” the king shook his head, his kind heart overwhelmed
“But neither will I make a prison, of a kingdom made for peace. May you succeed where your uncle could not.
Therefore, you are now released. But heed ye these words, well thou this understand
Mortals have minds which will turn truth to folly and no taker of life may enter this land.”

Off Rock [pg147]
By Kieran Shea
I’ve previously read Koko Takes a Holiday and Koko the Mighty. I never got around to Koko Unchained but I thoroughly enjoyed the first 2 books. I had Off Rock in my read later list at the library for so long I forgot why I had it there in the first place.
If I had known, I would’ve been ecstatic. As it is, that’s probably for the best that I didn’t so I could judge the book on its own merit.
Let’s start with the good stuff.
The opening
*chef’s kiss* hooked my ass line and sinker. A nice action packed intro to make you wonder how the hell this regular jo miner, Jimmy, got into this mess. I especially love how the landing space ship shifts the fight. Also there’s something so satisfying about watching Jimmy get his ass handed to him.
Setting
As much as I enjoy a complex setting with unfamiliar culture and vocabulary, sometimes I just want to see “random dude gets into trouble.” Let the writing speak for itself and have minimal thinking like you’d have watching a Hollywood blockbuster.
Ignoring the weird gendery stuff, I like the criminal underground built up, how the mining operations works, the tech. It seems like Shea put some legit effort into thinking through some of the mechanics and how it’d mesh with the story.
Jock
He has such a fun introduction ripping off a couple of new hires. I love how Jimmy’s perspective brings up how nobody initially comes to Jock’s defense but when a new hire calls him on “cheating” and then makes a move that the very atmosphere shifts since Jock is your go to guy for contraband. Ironically, contraband literally could be something as basic as a plant for a terrarium since the company takes years to acqusition things from off station.
Another point, I love how Jock illustrates the gaps that come from companies being jackasses.
When there’s a market, somebody’s gotta fill it.
Leela
Leela Leela Leela. Where do I start? She’s a staunch company manager who’s got asperations of moving up in the food chain. Previously dated Jimmy and I got to say I do like their banter. Jimmy has this suave way about him that Shea excells at writing good back and forth that excels the story.
Thing is that Leela doesn’t have like any life outside of Jimmy. Literally when the only other character whose interesting who interacts with her— part of the conversation is about her ex.
If she doesn’t have much to do with Jimmy outside of being a pawn, I wish that Shea gave her less screen time.
Piper
I love her. Hard core fella who knows how to scare a bartender shitless into getting her peaches. Then there’s also scenes with her having this cute pendant from her future hubby who she’s doing this job for.
The more I think about it, the more I’m confused why she had so little time on the page. She’s super fun to read about and I love how she shook up things.
Zaafer Daavi
The only non-white person with page time and man do I love him. Loves the fuck out of sweets, polite, thoughtful and makes me really wish he had a friend to beat the shit out of Jock because omfg, that asshole.
Also he made a little storyline out of candy before eating them. Very endearing.
.
Basically, this has alot of good bones but it didn’t really pull together in a way that maintained my focus.
Still, dialogue was fun and I like how Jock’s background informs how he acts. Idk. I really like how his charactsr comes together. I feel like too often we get bogged down in the bad. I do the same thing in my own write- come reading it six months later I fall in love with the story again.
This story might not be my cup of tea but for a light heist flick, it took a shot and I can respect that.

How the Mail Never Fails - FFXIV Write 2024 - Day 5: Stamp
Halditar was firm with her movements in tying the white cravat. It was to be as fluffy and endear as possible after all. Nothing less would be accepted for the noble attire of the mooglepost, especially not on a day like today. Nor would Moonlight let herself look anything less than perfect in her most favorite barding. Her bird was not a vain one, but when it came to being gussied up, stubbornly the Warrior of Light’s loyal steed refused to move until she felt she was perfect. It was enough to make the roe roll her eyes, but she never could get frustrated at the bird’s antics.
“There. How’s that feel, girl?” she asked.
Moonlight swiveled her head, and let out her happiest whistle before walking to the nearest reflective surface in the stable. She stared at her own reflection like a woman preparing for a romantic date, not a steed with an important mission. Halditar wasn’t sure what it was about the formal, adorable look and feel of the Post Moogle barding that made Moonlight love it so. But who was she to deny the chocobo what it enjoyed, especially today.
“Enough gawkin’ now, we have places to be!” With that she grabbed a glamor plate and in an instant was transformed. From the noble outfit of a powerful sage to something more approachable. A cute tunic top and skirt, with hardy running boots in that beautiful shade of abyssal blue, all to compliment that recognizable Postmoogle Cap.
She took Moonlight by the lovely red reins and guided her out the stable. It was very early in the morning. Above the sky was starting to melt from the dark expanse of space into a beautiful pastel swirl of yellow and orange, the barest hint of blue on the edge of the horizon. The only people up being the workers like her, and those that wished to get an early start on surprising their loved one’s this day. It took no effort to hitch up and climb aboard Moonlight. She bird stamped her foot on the ground, eager to galavant and do what she was made for.
“Onwards! Valentoine’s Day waits for no one!”
With a mighty ‘kweh!’ Moonlight took off, taking to the sky to start a long day of delivering letters to a fro.
-
Their first stop was the hottest cities and lands, knowing how if they didn’t do them now, they would regret having to come later.
Ul’dah had been as expected. Letters between spouses-to-be that wished to connect more in hopes to make an arranged marriage feel less arranged, secret missives between the richer stock and poorer, hiding a deeper relationship in plain sight. And pound upon pounds of precious gifts. Chocolate wouldn’t last being ferried across the desert land, so the people of Thanalan courier favor through baubles. Bands and chains of metal set with precious stone jingled in the back satchel with every step, and more than once Halditar had to reach down with a firm grasp, or weapon in some nastier cases, to ward off any thieves. But being it was a kind day, she was quick to forgive the fools that tried to swindle her and toss some gil and a warning their way.
There was a lot of back and forth between her, the miners guild, the goldsmiths, the weavers, and Eshtaime’s this day. From picking up orders or dropping them off to delivering missives for more materials - it was a good thing for today Halditar got permission to ride Moondrop through the city-states streets else she didn’t want to imagine the aether sickness that would come from the aether shard travel to save time. Of course, amidst the bustle the adventurer found moment’s of brevity.
“Haldi! Over ‘ere!” The roe glanced around, looking for the source of the voice until she recognized a waving, hopping lalafell. She beamed, gently riding over to Wawarukka and Kokomo. Kokomo was as pretty as ever, and while a little rough around the edges from what Halditar could recognize as a long night mining, he was dressed up. In fact, both were dressed in matching designs the artisan could recognize as Redolent Rose’s work. Fashionable when separate, and down-right perfect together.
“Aren’t you two looking lovely today? To think I’d encounter the cutest couple on the star this early in my deliveries!” She laughed as Kokomo’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and while Wawakkura’s did the same he had more than heard enough of Halditar’s teasing working together in the miner’s guild to build a tolerance to it.
“Ah, you're still full of slit even after all this time, Haldi?”
“Only for you, Wawakkura. But truly, you both are dashing today. I’m happy to see both seem well.” she said, this time with a genuine softness. The aristocratic girl nodded, the blush finally receding from the initial embarrassment.
“More than well. We’ve been starting to discuss being wed.”
That got the redhead to gasp. Moonlight chirruped and wriggled in delight, seeming to understand exactly what that meant. Donning her own massive grin, she pet her bird to calm it while saying, “Gods, I can’t believe it! Congrats you two, I wish you the finest luck. You both deserve it.”
“We can’t thank you enough, both for your kind words and your help years ago. If not for you…” Kokomo shook her head, knowing it wasn’t even worth imagining such a grim scenario. “Truly, thank you. It may not be the most noble deed you’ve done, but to us this will be the legacy you leave us with, Warrior of Light.”
The redhead tipped her hat, both in thanks for such kind words and to hide the slight welling of tears behind her glasses. She knew she might cry today, but for it to come this early. She might end up a mess at the end of today, what a sap she was! “Happy to be of service.”
“And ya better keep your ear close to the guild! When I’m looking for a goldsmith to craft the metal and gems I dig up into a ring, you’re number one on the list! Got it?” Wawakurra's passionate command made Halditar laugh, nodding in agreement.
“Just make sure you give up something good. If you try and make me work with some shit gems and metal to make your wedding bands, I won’t let you hear the end of it.” She warned and joked with her guildmate a few minutes longer before counting on with her work. But, as to be expected on a day like today, another voice called out and stopped her in her tracks.
“Might I trouble you for your services, Postmaster?” Halditar smiled and nodded down to the short, pink-clad lalafell who approached, shortly followed behind by Papashan.
“No trouble at all, Lady Lilira. What do you require of me?”
“I have a letter I need delivered to a dear friend in Ala Mhigo, and a second one for another friend. She is an adventurer, so she doesn’t stay put very often, but I’m sure you won’t have any trouble finding her,” ‘Lilira’ smiled, and handed up to the courier two letters in pink enveloped, sealed with an inconspicuous yellow wax stamp depicting a rose in full bloom. “Considering the day, I thought it appropriate to share words with them on how much they mean to me.”
“And it shall be done, Lady Lilira. And know I’ve already spoken with that adventurer friend of yours, in fact. She’s eager to prepare for you some wonderful sweets she learned to make while across the salt, just send the word and she’ll be right over to cook for you a feast.”
The younger girl couldn’t stop herself from cheering, a joyous sight the adventurer couldn’t stay too long to enjoy. Racing off to the next delivery and destination.
-
“Seems the Bull of Ala Mhigo is as popular as ever!”
haubahn looked up from his tactics table, a map of all of Gyr Albania with notes on renegade forces and monster attacks, with a grin and sigh of relief upon seeing her. The Flame Captain approached her former general casually, plopping on a clear part of the table her bag heavy with letters, a good few for him. But none so important at the one in her hand.
“Am I wrong to assume the same for you, friend?” He laughed and hugged her. She returned it with gusto, patting his back in a familiar, brotherly way.
“I make it a point never to expect Valentoine’s letters unless they're from the dearest friends while working. Including our Nanamo,” Upon saying the sultana’s name, Raubahn pulled back enough for her to offer him the letter. The only man that could match her in height and strength hesitated, taking the envelope of paper from her grasp as gingerly as one may an injured animal. He was as she was, weak to the kindness of those they held dear, running his thumb over the wax seal tenderly.
“Ah, I haven't had the time to write anything myself yet…” his words dripped with an unneeded guilt, one Halditar shook her head at.
“I’m in no rush, I can wait here as long as you need me to so you can hand your letter off in good confidence.” She assured him. In an instant, all that worry melted off his face.
“Thank you, Halditar.” Raubahn scoured the war room for paper, envelope, and ink to write Nanamo in turn. He didn't take long, more time fretting over what to put than the writing itself. A panic nearly took over the man when he realized he had no wax or stamp with which to seal it for safety, earning a laugh from the redhead. Thankfully, as an honorary Postmoogle and aid to the efforts of House Valentoines, she was prepared with a stamp and wax alike.
-
She knew Thavnair was only just opening itself to the other lands, and as such Halditar figured the celebrations there would be light, if any. She probably hadn’t needed to check, but better safe than sorry. And how glad she was she did, when amongst the meager decorations of red heart lights and garlands, she spied a familiar matanga flitting about the entrance to The High Crucible.
“Cat got your tongue, Matsya?” She asked the nervous lad. He jumped quite high, nearly fumbling and having to catch the parcel he carried in his arms before it hit the ground.
“Y-You scared me friend… But it is good to see you.” He stuttered and offered the roe and her bird a week smile. Moonlight warked back in greeting while Halditar leaned to the side, looking around the corner into what was an alchemist’s paradise. She could already spy the reason Matsya was so worried, but still kindly guessed,
“So did word of the day reach you and encourage you to give a gift to someone important?” She asked. Matsya only shuffled, trunk curling up slightly as he tapped his finger across the wax paper holding his gift, a fish, without, nervously.
“I know this ‘Valentoines’ is also a day to express appreciation for others but… I worry I would simply be bothering Nidhana and the others with my presence.” He mused in that way only those with a crush and gentle heart could. She gave the gentlest smile she could and held out her hands.
“Well, I am a mailwoman today. If you’d like, I can happily deliver it in your stead. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind mail, especially from a fellow alchemist.”
“T-Truly?! Oh, Sisters bless you, friend! A-Ah, no need to mention who it’s from through. I-I don’t think that, um, necessary...” He stammered. Halditar just nodded, walking in through the grand arch leading into the grandest and greatest hall an alchemist could be so lucky to grace. All manner of work stations and materials were everywhere, but nothing could distract the hero from her goal. Given her attire, it wasn’t long before she was noticed by Nidhana herself.
“Oh, welcome, Halditar! It’s so nice to see you again. To what do we owe this visit?” She asked. Halditar offered forward the paper-wrapped fish with the same grin as she would if she were delivering chocolates or jewels, full of glee and kindness.
“A Valentoine’s day delivery. My first in Thavnair, in fact! Happy to it could be to a friend of mine.”
The arkasodara gasped in delight, eagerly taking the bundle and opening it then and there on her work station. Inside was indeed a very nice fish, with silvery scales and a good bit of fat on it’s bones. A fine gift from a fisher, Halditar would say.
“Oh, this is lovely! It will make a good meal, and I can use the scales to make plenty of oils. Thank you,” Nidhana beamed and began to wrap her gift up once more for safe keeping. “May I ask who sent this?”
“Well, he asked to remain anonymous. Buuuuut,” she leaned in with a glint in her eye and spoke softly, as if the distance and volume of The High Crucible staff at work wouldn’t already keep Matsya from hearing them. But what fun was there in telling secrets without having some fun with it? “He didn’t make me promise. He’s right outside the gate, probably still flitting there nervously. Follow me out and you’ll certainly still be able to catch him.”
Nidhana gasped, before nodding with understanding and a mischievous glint in her own eye. With a skip in her step, she was quick to mount her bird after exiting into the aetheryte plaza and assuring Matsya she delivered his gift. “Good luck!” She bid him as she rode off, disappearing into the crowd before the shy boy could ask too many questions, unable to hear him exclaim in shock when Nidhana approached him from behind.
-
Limsa was one of her favorite cities to do deliveries in one part of that being seeing the wide-eyed terror that made Brithael donned as she stepped over the blacksmith guild’s threshold. Offering an unapologetic , shit-eating grin as she pulled out the biggest package she had the honor of delivering today.
“It’s official, you’re banned from the guild on the 14th of this month. The world could be ending and my forge could be the only one capable of forging the weapons to save it, and I simply wouldn’t give a shite. Until I’m dead and buried I want you nowhere near me on this blasted day!” He spat and shouted, but the Warrior of light didn’t give a shit herself. Rolling her eyes at her once-master’s dramatics and offering to him the meticulously wrapped package she had been told to deliver as if her life depended on it.
“How cruel and shallow ya are, boss. To deny a young maiden’s affections! What would saint Valentoine’s think?” She spoke so dramatically the lads by the anvil guffawed and chortled, no doubt knowing what all this was about.
Sekka was nothing if not persistent in trying to win the rough guildmaster’s affection. And for all his bluster and denying to his mates, he hadn’t rejected a gift or letter from her yet, or failed to send one back in due time, always justifying it was because of smithy questions she asked him. It was simply a nice bonus she got to tease and bully the rough Limsan a bit over it, just as he did with her when she showed up as the greenest apprentice he ever did take on.
“I think she’d have to start sleeping with one eye open after I’d give ‘er a piece of my mind… Bugger all…” Brithael swore and took the lovely gift from her hands, dropping it on one of the supply crates as he ripped away the wrapping paper. Along with a novella sized pile of papers nearly strung together, a love letter no doubt, Halditar recognized the three-tiered, lacquered lunch boxes of Kugane well. If she knew anything about how those from Hinga expressed their affection mostly through action than words, the guild master was in for a feast.
“I’ll leave you to enjoy the spoils of your love for now, Brithael, but I’ll be back in the evening to pick up your response!”
A hail of ore thunks and curses were thrown after her as she raced across the upper deck of the great sea-city, laughing alongside her whistling chocobo the whole way.
-
There was a poeticism in the power of Valentoine’s extending to beyond the Source.
She was sure if she told House Valentoine’s, they would be rife with glee and overjoyed of how far one of their messengers would go in the name of love. But that would require quite a bit of explaining she wasn’t really qualified to do. So she just held that pride in her heart as she walked amongst the long shadows cast by the setting sun of the First. With all her own letters and gifts to deliver in the First, she had three remaining deliveries at the behest of others.
First had been for the Chai’s from Alphinaud. They were elated not just to receive a small letter and a gift of Garlean and Tuliyollal sketches and sweets from the young artist they had grown so fond of, but Dulia was especially enchanted by the description Halditar had given the older woman of what Valentoine’s day was, what it meant and why it was celebrated. With how eagerly she spoke and gushed to her husband with what a wonderful tradition it was, how nice it would be to have a day to celebrate love of all kinds too, Halditar imagined she would see hearts decorating all of Eulmore come the same time next year.
Gaia and Ryne was next, of course. Both young girls looking at her with wide eyes as she produced two letters, two bags of sweet, and two plushes to match. Gaia took her gifts with nary a moment’s hesitation and a quick ‘thank you’ before popping a bitter, dark chocolate bon bon in her mouth to savor. Some may have found the dramatic teen’s gratitude lacking, but as the one that made the plushies and chocolates as a favor to Thancred, ensuring both girls would get the best of the best, to see how the gothic girl hugged the grumpy bear close as her lips curled upward as the chocolate melted on her tongue was thank enough. It was a joy shared. Ryne seemed a bit more hesitant, overwhelmed by such rich gifts.
“Thancred wanted to let you know he’s doing okay. And if you don’t believe him, Urianger has been making sure of it. As have I. He can’t wait to see you again as soon as he can.” She told the strawberry blonde, reaching up to pet her hair gently.
Ryne blinked away the overwhelming thoughts, shock popping up for a moment before it melted into such a sweet-yet-sad smile. Halditar found herself gripped in a hug. One the Warrior of Darkness returned kindly, scooping the girl up and spinning her around.
“You are so loved, sweetheart. Never forget that, promise?” She asked Ryne as she set her back down on the ground, giving the girl time to wipe her eyes before looking up at her with a smile.
“I won’t. And, I love all of you too. I’ll have letters ready to send back soon.” Ryne said. With a promise she’d be back soon to pick it up, she made her way to the Crystarium gate for her last delivery. Her escort awaited her, Lyna wanting to see her off safe. Unaware of the hero’s true intentions as she approached, until Halditar had the present box pulled out and held in front of her.
The Captain blinked slowly, as if this was the first time she had ever been handed a present. She moved with similar caution, taking the box from Halditar without a word. Weighing it in her hands, searching for any markinging. And once opened, revealing a somewhat messy, but sweet smelling mini-mont blanc cake. “This is from…” She spoke as if she could not believe she was receiving the gift at all.
“I did tell you it’s Valentoine’s Day and what it meant, that I’m here for deliveries,” The warrior of light rocked on her heels, Moonlight whistling a little tune in agreement. “G’raha’s really been trying to get better at cooking. Asked me for hundreds of tips to make sure he wouldn’t mess up. He certainly did better than my first time in the kitchen. Mont Blanc’s a bastard of a dish to make fresh.”
Lyna remained quiet, staring down down at her little cake with hard eyes. A look she recognized from the viera, hiding her emotions behind a mask. A soft breath eventually escaped her nose, closing the box and tucking it under her arm safely. For a moment, she let the mask fall. A soft, tender smile gracing her lips as she beamed to Halditar. “Please, tell him I am happy he’s doing well, and trying no things. It looks delicious.”
“I will, word for word.” Halditar promised.
They headed off, until the Warrior of Darkness faded back to where she was the Warrior of Light.
-
“You did a great job today, girl,” Halditar praised Moonlight as she brushed the fowl’s feathers, making sure they were still glossy and straight after a long day’s work. The silver chocobo chirruped sleepy, eyes closed in pure bliss as her cheeks received a good scratching from the brush. When not a feather was out of place any longer, Halditar stood and wiped the dirt and hay off her knees. “Now it’s time for your gift!”
The bird tilted her head curiously, watching as her master stepped just outside her stable. Eyes bulging as into her trough, Halditar poured a huge, hearty mix of cyshal greens, seeds, different grains, insects, and slices of that elusive, delicious Thavanairian onion.
There was no whistle of thanks or joy. Moonlight diving her head into her feed and munching with gusto. The master just pet her bird’s head a few times, bidding her good night and to enjoy her meal as she went to retire her Postmoogle cap for the night. Carefully tiptoing past her other mounts toward the apartment building she called home. Exhaustion slowly settled into her limbs, making every step heavier, and louder as she ascended the stair. The jingle of her keys as she pulled them out to unlock the door was like the bells of heaven, welcoming her to sanctuary.
The first thing she saw as she entered was Thistle. The bullpup was asleep on a dog bed, dragged all the way from the kitchen into the foyer to await his master’s return. She just smiled, and from her bag pulled the bone she bought him and laid it next to his chubby little body. Her glutes burning as she rose up again, she groaned, “Gods, I’m gonna put so much epsom salt in my bath the sea’ll be jealous…” Each of her steps more like a stumble now as she started to kick her shoes and wander to the comfort of a hot path and bed.
Come morning, courtesy of a sneaky Mooglepost delivery, Halditar’s dining room table would be covered in letters, gifts, and flowers from friends and family alike.

“Their limbs are like perfect linear straight lines with round mineral tubes inside of them. Mass to mass, they have the strength of steel- no cephalopod but the biggest and mightiest could pull or sever them easily. It gives them leverage in a single one of their appendages to apply obscene amounts of pressure into a small space. They could push a finger through your fragile mortal flesh the way a lobster could squeeze your limb off, or a mantis shrimp could impale you. They seem soft and vulnerable, but are perfectly capable of harming you with that soft, velvety exterior. They are tremendously strong, even in the smallest and most narrow extremities. Segmented like Bismuth crystals.”
“The tips of their fingers are like the mouths of whales, lined with a single layer of bayleen. A keratinous, thin, delicate blade that grows and replenishes itself as it’s destroyed, that they use for disposable digging and fine manipulation in their environment. Flexible and hard to a point, they could easily puncture an eyeball if you aren’t careful. With a long reach, they can express force at a distance in a way we cannot even imagine.”
“These [bones] can repair themselves over time. Inside their mouths are like 32 tiny beaks, operating like our jaws do. But each tooth is so, so much harder than our beaks. Related to, but not technically, [bones]. More related to skin than bone. If one of them decided to sacrifice their teeth to bite through one of your extremities, they could still eat afterwards on the other side of their mouths.”
“Their [bones] also play an important role in their immune system and circulatory system. These [bones], near impervious to crushing, house concentrated centers where they store the cells to generate new blood. Unlike us, they can maintain the same strength we can, but for hours- sometimes, entire days. All our limbs and our metabolisms would be exhausted in minutes of a prolonged struggle. And some [endoskeletals] even specialize in persistence and attrition based hunting strategies. If you cannot kill them with the element of surprise and mighty attacks, you will never, ever succeed in killing them.”
“And they often carry objects specifically to deflect attacks, and with their rigid endosystem, have the rigidity and reflexes to make optimal use of it. Spitting projectiles is worthless. Trying to stab one prepared is worthless. Trying to crush one unless you can wrap around their torso, is worthless. We have no easy place of attack, but suffocation. And their mouths are quite capable of tearing off our limbs. If you meet a bipedal endoskeletal wearing a helmet, armor and a shield, just leave.”
I bet octopuses think bones are horrific. I bet all their cosmic horror stories involve rigid-limbs and hinged joints.
