hidan picking out what instruments konan, kakuzu, and itachi played because he thought they were an emo rock band

Trying out some brushes and was struck with the desire to draw him

gai tagging along for a bunch of kakashi and iruka’s dates to make sure iruka is treating his eternal rival well. though a lot of people find it weird and kakashi is worried that iruka will too — not because he’s embarrassed of gai, but because he likes iruka so much and he can’t be with someone who is put off by his best friend.

but when kakashi gets iruka alone and finally asks about it, iruka just laughs and points out that first of all anko made multiple threats against kakashi’s life if anything were to happen to iruka and stalked them for entirety of their first 5 dates.

then he smiles and his voice gets all soft and he tells kakashi that it makes him really happy to know that there are people who love kakashi enough to want to make sure that nobody mistreats him, that gai has been extremely encouraging and kind, and iruka is glad kakashi has a best friend like him.

and then kakashi feels stupid for worrying at all because this is umino “took a fuma shuriken to the back for naruto when the rest of the village still hated him” iruka, of course he doesn’t care if other people think it’s weird.

All of Kakashi's friends have one thing in common: they do not give a fuck about their reputation. They do not care what you think of them. Kakashi and Gai are as eccentric as they come and most of what you say to them is going to just slide right off and Kurenai and Asuma will just straight up shrug you off for questioning their feelings, motives etc [see: them ignoring Iruka's prodding at chuunin exams]

So it's like. Oh you're afraid of "Friend Killer" Kakashi? You think he's weird and violent and he gives you the creeps? Huh. Maybe you're the weirdo here because I saw him crying over "Ninja Love 3: Magistrate's Revenge" about 10 times just last night in the cinema. Do you know he uses the baby voice on his dogs? He yelled at me for 3 hours once for not eating enough. He gives great massages after a work out. Etc etc

Lee: Sensei, how do I win over my crush?

Gai: That’s easy, Lee. Buy the most beautiful flowers and the most decadent candy. Go for a moonlight stroll around a sparkling lake. Make plenty of eye contact, use every other sentence to give a compliment. Then at the end of the night, gently take her into your arms, and —

Lee: Her? Gai-sensei, I’m talking about Gaara-kun!

Gai: G-Gaara? The Kazekage Gaara??

Lee: Yeah. But … maybe I shouldn’t even try it? I mean it’s probably weird because we’re both guys and —

Gai: This changes everything! First and foremost, you need to travel to the Sand, go to his office, kick down the door, get in his face, and declare him to be your eternal rival! Then you need to relentlessly challenge him to a competition every chance you get! And then, just when he’s angry and annoyed enough to punch you, catch his fist mid-air, and pull him into a kiss. I guarantee he’ll be head over heels for you after that!

Lee: Thank you, Gai-sensei! I’ll prepare to go to him at once! *leaves*

Kakashi, having walked up: That was the absolute worst romantic advice I’ve ever heard anyone give anyone else in my entire life. You should be ashamed of yourself, feeding him such nonsense.

Gai: *puts his arms around Kakashi* Oh? Funny you say that when all of that same stuff worked on you, Eternal Rival. *kisses his cheek*

Kakashi, blushing: Yeah, but, clearly I’m a weirdo in that regard. I guarantee Gaara will have more sense than I did, to fall for such tactics.

*two years later*

Gai, playing piggy-back with Shinki: Say, Kakashi … what was that you were saying to me before, about Gaara being too smart to fall for my tactics? Mm?
