INITIATING OVERWATCH RECALL

Here are the details of the Overwatch photoshoot/meetup we've been planning for #NotCon2017 !!

It will be on Saturday from 1pm-2pm, though we're still attempting to figure out where to have it in the hotel. I'm thinking maybe meet up in the lobby and decide from there? I've never been, so hopefully they're fairly accommodating!

Midwest Media Expo 2017

We are coming to you with a very heavy heart to inform you that, due to circumstances beyond our control, the 2017 Midwest Media Expo has been cancelled. For the past year we have been working hard to bring you a very special event, and it pains us greatly to have to make such an announcement, especially this close to our event date. We understand how much this event meant to everyone, and we apologize for this happening so suddenly. At this time, we are making arrangements to assist those displaced by this turn of events and those affected should expect we will be sending off notifications immediately to go over available alternatives.

We will be making further statements as we are able to discuss things, but know that we are working with good people to help us in this dark hour. Thank you very much for your understanding.

New year, new cosplays! Rey from The Force Awakens is on her way to Midwest Media Expo 2017! n-n

This is the fabric for the shirt and body wrap. I normally don’t show off just the fabric itself but there was a long process behind the fabric choice. I decided to use the same fabric they used for her movie costume(Thanks star wars cosplayers!). I got the fabric from an online store. Both fabrics were untreated, meaning not preshrunk or dyed.

I am convinced Rey’s Jakku outfit is magic. Depending on the lighting she’s in decides what color her outfit is. So literally every image of her has her outfit in a different color. So I experimented with rit dye. Pearl grey was too grey, tan was too tan. Mixed them together and got this result! Which... Seems pretty close to what reference image I decided to go with!

Seriously the lighting with this particular color is bizarre.

2017 Art Update

2017 is here! I thought I would post an ART UPDATE talking about my art plans for this upcoming year. 

Happy 30th Anniversary Jojo! If anyone follows me for/enjoys my Jojo art, I would encourage you to look at my Jojo side blog Battle-Gendency. I will be posting Jojo sketches/non finished Jojo artwork there. Only finished/nice Jojo pieces will be posted on PearlySoda.

PearlySoda updates may be infrequent because I am busy running a webcomic; ideally I would like to upload stuff here once a month.

Webcomic: I make the comic Noir City on Tapastic. It updates once a week on Tuesdays, with two pages per update. If all goes well, chapter 1 will be finished in early March.

CoffeeMilkTeaGirls: CoffeeMilkTeaGirls is my convention studio that I run with my sister, RanchingGal. The 2017 CMTG Convention line-up is below:

SunchildStudios: SunchildStudios is the original art studio I also run with my sister RanchingGal. SunchildStudios put out Talk Like a King earlier this year in October, and we’re currently working on releasing a winter themed short game called The Lighthouse Star. Otherwise, SunchildStudios will be focusing on working on bigger projects this year.

Super sad one of my favorite cons was cancelled this weekend.

Was working on the Persona panel when it happened, but Midwest Media is cancelled. 😥 It was due to uncontrollable circumstances and awful hotel management. It’s not the con’s fault by any means….

But I’m super bummed cause this con was a lot of firsts for me and especially because of the Persona fam and just seeing con fam again. And making new memories..

I've been going since it was running in 2014.

We can’t begin to thank all of the attendees and fans of Midwest Media Expo for the amazing outpouring of support we have received in the 24 hours since our event was cancelled….

But we are going to try!

We’d like to invite you to a little fan appreciation event we will be hosting all weekend at the Radisson Detroit-Farmington Hills. We are still finalizing details, but we’re happy to announce that both David Eddings and Jon St John will be joining us for some up close and personal meet & greets and hangout time with their fans. There will be no admission fee for their events.

For those who are still in a convention mood, we’d also like to note that we are located just a short drive from both the Novi Sheraton, which is hosting Motor CIty Nightmares (www.motorcitynightmares.com/), and the Westin Southfield-Detroit, where the long running Penguicon (2017.penguicon.org) is being held.

The hotel staff has been amazingly accommodating about stepping up to help us put this together, and are offering a special room rate to those who still want a hotel weekend, just mention NotCon when you call to book your room. Midwest Media Expo cancelled three days before event

Midwest Media Expo, a fan convention near Detroit, announced last night that their 2017 event has been cancelled. The convention was scheduled to start on Friday.

The announcement posted to their web site and social media was as follows:

We are coming to you with a very heavy heart to inform you that, due to circumstances beyond our control, the 2017 Midwest Media Expo has been cancelled. For the past year we have been working hard to bring you a very special event, and it pains us greatly to have to make such an announcement, especially this close to our event date. We understand how much this event meant to everyone, and we apologize for this happening so suddenly. At this time, we are making arrangements to assist those displaced by this turn of events and those affected should expect we will be sending off notifications immediately to go over available alternatives.

According to responses on the convention's Facebook group, the prevailing rumor is that the cancellation is a result of the hotel asking for additional money. It's not unusual for a first-year convention to be caught off guard by a venue's payment schedule, but this isn't the first event for Midwest Media Expo. Youmacon is run by the same group and has been around for over a decade, so there should be plenty of staff members experienced in working with facilities and venue contracts. This would have been the second Midwest Media Expo held at this venue.

The convention has responded to Facebook comments indicating that they plan to offer pre-registered attendees a full refund on the cost of their badges. from FanCons.com
