A week after Penguicon...
...and I’m still using the information that I have gathered there.
As we all know Midwest Media Expo was cancelled this year. Naturally, I was upset. I understand things happen, so I wasn’t mad at MME, but since I cannot travel right now, I have to attend cons within distance. At the time I had Youmacon and MME. And Youmacon isn’t for another 6 months sooooo, you can see why I felt I was in a bind. I needed a con fix.
Enter Penguicon....
I don’t even know how I came across it, but as I was trying to figure out what I was going to do with myself now that my weekend was shot, I discovered Penguicon which I believe I had heard of before. It was the same weekend and close enough for me to get to.
At first I wasn't even going. Gasp! I know. But I was upset with MME being cancelled but after looking at the schedule I decided I was going to go. Plus I don’t like doing things on the fly, as I feel rushed and whatnot but I was forced to this time.
Anyway...
I enjoyed this con so much!!
This is the first con I went to that I got so much information that it's not even funny. This was the first con I went to that after the weekend I was mentally tired for all that I learned.
I love this "How to write a novel in a month", that helped me learn more about NaNoWriMo. I had heard of NaNoWriMo before but I did not quite understand how it worked. I think this year I'm going to shoot to do it. =D
I got so many writing tips from this con as well as general creative advice. I attended Grand Circus Intro to Coding workshop that was helpful as I'm going to be learning coding and Information Systems this fall.
And one of the piece de resistances was this panel about Procrastination and Perfectionism. This was sheer gold right here. I LOVED this panel. It really made me think about these two things differently.

I didn't see how MME being cancelled was a good for me but I can see it now.
So much in fact, that I will be planning to attend Penguicon next year instead of MME.
They have so much more programming. There were panels I would have attended had not my first choice been my first choice. So I feel that there would probably be new panels and new things to learn about each year instead of the same three-panel repeats.
And plus I attend cons in a great part for the panels. I like to do things and learn more things. So this con is perfect from what I can see. People, you could even learn about birds and planets. I'm not even joking, right now. They seriously had astronomy classes. Even a Kimchi making panel, which since I already know how to do that, I didn't attend but they did have it.
So thanks Penguicon for making my first time at your con a great one!!
You've just earned yourself a new congoer for yours.
