Mild Panic

Imagine my shock when, two minutes after I turned my PC on for the day, a command console window flashes on screen and suddenly Windows is shutting down again. No error, no crash, it just casually shuts down as if I had selected it from the Start Menu.

Is this going to be A Problem™?

So I'm the kind of person that still shuts down his PC before going to bed and boots it back up when he wakes up. There comes times where I need to go to bed but have to leave the PC on, and that doesn't make me super comfortable. So I have a scheduled task in the Task Scheduler that runs the official Windows shutdown program:

C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 0 -f -c "Scheduled shutdown"

I don't need to use it super often. Last time it ran was September, and I think before then, February.

For some reason, that shutdown I experienced? It was the scheduled task running. You can see it up above: though you can't see the column, the "Last Run" date is 11/5/2023 at 2:33pm, the exact time my system randomly decided to shut down. You can also see that the task was scheduled to run on September 24th, 2023 at 7:25am and is only ever meant to run once.

Windows booted up, waited two minutes, got confused, and ran the September task, shutting itself back down. Look, here it is in the event viewer, with my "Scheduled shutdown" comment attached:

Thankfully, a simple right click, "Disable" on the scheduled task hopefully prevents it from randomly running on a whim like that ever again.

Royal Surrey Hospital today said it had seen issues with Varian, the IT system the hospital uses to deliver radiotherapy treatments. Earlier the hospital was unable to deliver scheduled radiotherapy treatments, but this afternoon's appointments will take place as scheduled, the trust said in an update. Appointments into next week could still be affected due to remaining disruption to the system, the statement added.

Reasons why MCSM was hated (That i could find)

The day it was revealed it, people disliked it because the idea of Minecraft having a story would ruin the game and Notch's original vision

People assumed the game was a cheap cash grab Microsoft made the second they bought Mojang, (MCSM was planned all the way back in 2012)

The gam was called the edgy and cringey for the first four episodes being dark because at the time during the 2010s, it was a popular trend to mock kiddy looking franchises for taking themselves seriously (Sonic for example)

People called the game cringe in general because Minecraft itself was cringe

People complained the game didn't have much gameplay and was basically a visual novel

The animation was considered bad at the time

The voice acting was considered bad

Reuben's death animation made people mock it even more

The Youtubers episode made people hate the game even more and called it a cash grab even more (Said Youtubers were also hated at the time by anyone who wasn't a minecraft fan)

People blamed the game for making other Telltale games take too long to come out

People also blamed the game for the shutdown of Telltale

Why the game is no longer hated

People who always liked the game are older and louder with their opinions online

The game is delisted which means people either forgot about it or don't even know it exists

The 2010 Irony Poisoning made by 90s and 80s kids who ruled the internet is slowly fading away as 2000s kids begin to start dominating the internet

Stuff people hated about MCSM now makes people feel nostalgic

The Youtuber episode is less hated because of the current era of minecraft youtubers, (And more nostalgia)

The Minecraft Movie made everyone who hated the game now switch up
