“I vote we make camp for the day,” Hawkfrost says, to Stormfur’s relief. “I swear, every single cat in all the Clans is complaining about their sore paws.”

“Well, at least they can all agree on something,” Stormfur says, choosing to be an optimist. 

Crowstrike doesn’t share Stormfur’s optimism, instead giving Hawkfrost a dirty look and mumbling, “Who invited pretty tom to our private meeting, anyway?”

Hawkfrost responds with “Leopardstar did” in the same instant Brambleclaw gives Crowstrike an odd look and asks, “Why wouldn’t Stormfur be invited to the meeting?”

Silence. Dead silence. Speaking of dead, Stormfur wishes he was dead.

“Oh,” Brambleclaw says lamely. “You meant Hawkfrost, not Stormfur.”

“Why would he mean Stormfur?” Tawnypelt demands. “Stars above, you toms are a bunch of lizard-brains! I’m going to give the leaders our decision.”

No, don’t leave me alone with them, Stormfur wants to protest, but it’s too late. Tawnypelt practically sprints away, unable to handle the embarrassment rolling off of her brother. Or maybe she was shaken by the icicles that seem to practically hang off of Hawkfrost now.

Crowstrike looks from Brambleclaw to Stormfur to Hawkfrost, then says, “Yeah, I want no part of whatever you three have going on.” Like the traitor he is, he follows Tawnypelt.

Hawkfrost watches him leave. “I didn’t thank him for the compliment.” Pretty tom.

“I don’t think he meant it as a compliment,” Brambleclaw mutters. Hawkfrost’s gaze narrows.

“He means because Crowstrike is incapable of complimenting others,” Stormfur fills in, feeling very much like he did on the night when he first introduced Hawkfrost to Brambleclaw; caught in the middle of two cats he truly cares about. “Well, we should probably get back to our Clans, now…”

Hawkfrost hums, nonchalantly. Brambleclaw doesn’t say a word but Stormfur can tell by the stomp in his step that he isn’t happy.

Stormfur breathes in, breathes out. Of all the trouble he tried to anticipate before the journey started, Hawkfrost and Brambleclaw not getting along, because of him, was not something he saw coming.

Forgive me I don't know how to draw cats at all. Pretend Mika can't either. Okay so. Mika's warrior cat OC is currently named Crowstrike but that wasn't always his name. He was originally a rogue named Mika, and he met Shu cat (Berrypaw) as an apprentice when Shu and Kuro cat (Flamepaw) were venturing out of clan territory. Shu-cat and Kuro-cat got separated and so Mika-cat came in and watched Shu-cat from afar until he saw a hawk swoop down to pick him up, so he intervened and the hawk took his golden eye out. Shu-cat is a medicine cat in training so he helped Mika-cat and patched his eye up and came to visit him a few times to make sure his eye healed fine. Eventually he brings Mika home into his clan under which he was given the name Crowpaw and later Crowstrike. He swears it was a hawk that attacked but Shu-cat remembers it as a crow, hence the name. He has such a crush on Shu-cat but even in his own warrior cat universe he made it impossible for them to be together… Haha… unless… (since when do medicine cats ever follow the rules) anyways he picks Berrybreeze as Shu's cat's name and Shu has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. Mika cat can also travel through shadows. And like, idk he can talk to dead cats too. Some Mary Sue esc powers. He likes to use a really dirty fighting style that just disembowls all his enemies. He's drawn fan manga and shown it at the pretty five meetings.

the Microsoft blog post about the crowstrike incident is a powerful example of effective writing. it is polished and clear and also the calm, cool, collected tone of an industrial accident report (because it is).

It's also an example of "Dear Government Agencies, We want to remind you: there is no need for further regulation and oversight, we got this." (do they? idk) I'm always curious about the process of crafting these incident responses. It's an essential part of fixing and preventing failures.

i also like crowstrike a lot cause he is SO bitter about pineleaps death, and is the cat who takes the longest to believe/forgive marbleclaw for being the subject of possession by thorn. like he gets so mad about it that he ends up ambushing her and nearly killing her if it werent for fernstar, the cat crowstrike respects more than anything, stepping in and stopping him

i like crowfoot for crowfeather bc of ashfoot and deadfoot, but maybe crowsight, crowstrike, or crowpeak? (in honor of his time on the mountain with the tribe)

okay I really like Crowsight and Crowstrike! something about the "s" sound really scratches an itch in my brain!

I've gotten the most suggestions for Crowfoot, which is the suffix I used in Blood in Water as a nod to his parents, but I don't really want to do that here for the same reason that I don't want to use Crowfeather; there's a scene between Storm/Crow in chapter 6 where Crow asks for permission to use Feather's name as his warrior name, and Storm very gently is like "naming yourself after another cat comes w a lot of baggage and she would want you to be your own cat and make that name one to remember" (I'm paraphrasing obvi but that's the gist of it.)

So naming him after his parents goes directly against that logic, even if it were unintentional on Tallstar's part.

Idk, I just always see Crowfoot as the alternative warrior name for Crow and while I appreciate the nod, I also think... it's a big thing, to be so obviously named in honor of somebody else. It's a heavy thing. And realistically, how many cats genuinely feel like they live up to their namesake?
