Dominate Local Search with GMB Listings & Microsites: Best Practices
Tumblr media
As more and more people turn to the internet to find local businesses, it is essential for companies to have a strong online presence. One of the best ways to do this is through #GoogleMyBusiness listings and #Microsites. These tools allow businesses to dominate #LocalSearchResults and #IncreaseVisibilityOnline. In this article, we will discuss best practices for using GMB listings and microsites to dominate local search.
Benefits GMB Listings & Microsites are a powerful combination for businesses to increase their online presence. This strategy provides numerous advantages, including increased visibility and more opportunities for customer engagement. By creating #CustomisedMicrosite pages with #RelevantContent, businesses can attract potential customers from #SearchEngineResults while also driving #OrganicTraffic back to the main website or store location. Additionally, GMB listings provide an easy way to manage your business information across multiple platforms so that customers can find accurate contact details quickly and easily no matter where they look.
These help maximize brand exposure by increasing #ClickThroughRates on both web searches and #SocialMediaPosts related to the company’s products or services. Furthermore, since microsites focus on specific topics rather than trying to cover them all at once it helps build trust in consumers who view those pages as reliable sources of information about the company's offerings compared with generic ones without any customizations made specifically for them
Features With GMB listings, businesses can create a dedicated page on Google Maps that includes their contact information, hours of operation, reviews and ratings – all essential pieces of information for local consumers looking to make informed decisions. Additionally, with microsite feature integration into the GMB listing you can further customize the user experience by adding images or videos about products/services that may not be visible elsewhere in the search results. Furthermore research has shown that including rich media content increases time spent on site which could lead to better overall performance metrics like click-through rate (CTR) and cost per acquisition (CPA).
Trends As technology continues to evolve, there are several trends emerging in the use of GMB listings and microsites. One of these trends is the use of #ArtificialIntelligence (AI) to improve search results. AI can analyze user behaviour and search queries to provide more relevant and personalized results, making it easier for businesses to connect with potential customers. Another trend in the use of GMB listings and microsites is the use of video content. Video is an effective way to engage with customers and provide them with valuable information about the business. By incorporating video content into their GMB listings and microsites, businesses can increase user engagement and improve their search rankings.
GMB listings and microsites are powerful tools for #DominatingLocalSearchResults and increasing visibility online. With detailed information about the business and optimizing for local search queries, businesses can attract more customers and increase their revenue. As technology continues to evolve, businesses can expect to see new features and trends emerging in the use of GMB listings and microsites, providing even more opportunities to connect with customers and dominate local search results.

Microsite Development: Creating Impactful Digital Experiences
In today’s digital landscape, brands are increasingly turning to microsite development as a strategic way to deliver focused, engaging content. Unlike traditional websites that cover an array of topics and information, microsites are small, standalone sites dedicated to a specific campaign, product, or audience. This approach allows companies to provide unique, tailored experiences that resonate deeply with their target audience and drive measurable results.
Let’s explore what Microsite Development entails, why it’s beneficial, and how it can help brands connect with their audience on a more personal level.
What is a Microsite?
A microsite is a mini-website created to serve a specific purpose, separate from a brand’s main website. Often designed for targeted marketing campaigns, product launches, events, or awareness drives, microsites are typically limited in scope and focus on a single objective. Unlike a company’s primary site, which must cater to various user needs and information requests, a microsite is designed to capture attention and provide a streamlined experience around a single topic.
Examples of microsites include campaign-specific pages for new products, promotional events, or information hubs tailored to niche audiences.
Why Choose Microsite Development?
Focused User Experience: Microsites allow brands to strip away distractions and deliver a clear, concise message to their audience. By focusing on a single purpose or campaign, microsites make it easier for users to find the information they need, boosting engagement and conversion rates.
Enhanced Brand Visibility: A microsite can be an excellent way to shine a spotlight on specific aspects of your brand. When launching a new product, for example, a microsite can serve as a dedicated space to highlight features, benefits, and usage tips, capturing more attention than a product page on a standard website.
Improved SEO Opportunities: Microsites often target niche keywords and specialized content, which can improve search engine rankings and attract specific audiences. By creating valuable content around highly specific topics, companies can capture organic traffic and boost their visibility for niche searches.
Increased Engagement: Because microsites are often highly visual, interactive, and streamlined, they tend to offer a more engaging experience than a standard webpage. This approach can create a memorable journey for users, encouraging them to spend more time on the site and increasing the likelihood of a positive impression.
Efficient Analytics Tracking: Since microsites are separate from a main website, they make it easier to track the success of a specific campaign or initiative. Marketers can measure engagement, conversions, and user behavior without interference from the broader metrics of the main site, providing a clearer view of a campaign’s impact.
Key Components of Effective Microsite Development
To create a successful microsite, there are a few essential elements to consider:
Clear Objective: Define the purpose of the microsite from the beginning. Whether it’s for lead generation, awareness, or showcasing a new product, having a clear objective will guide the design, content, and functionality choices.
Visually Engaging Design: Microsites are an opportunity to think outside the box. The design should capture attention quickly, reflect the campaign’s tone, and make a lasting impression on visitors.
Focused Content: Unlike a traditional website that may have multiple sections and pages, microsites should focus on one core message. Create concise, engaging content that drives users toward the intended goal, whether it’s filling out a form, making a purchase, or exploring product details.
Interactive Elements: Interactive features like quizzes, videos, or animations can help enhance engagement. Since microsites are often used to promote a specific campaign, these interactive elements can make the experience memorable and increase the likelihood of sharing.
Strong Call-to-Action (CTA): Every microsite should include a clear, compelling CTA that encourages users to take the next step. Depending on the goal, this could be signing up for a newsletter, downloading a resource, or purchasing a product.
When Should You Use a Microsite?
Microsites are particularly effective for:
Product Launches: Introducing a new product or service? A microsite offers a dedicated space to build excitement and deliver targeted information without clutter.
Campaigns or Promotions: If you’re running a special campaign, a microsite can help you create a unique brand identity around it, separate from your primary site.
Event Marketing: For companies hosting an event or conference, microsites provide a platform to showcase event details, agendas, and speakers, enhancing the attendee experience.
Audience Engagement: Microsites work well for capturing the attention of niche audiences or communities. Tailored to specific interests, they create a sense of exclusivity and encourage deeper engagement.
Steps to Develop an Effective Microsite
Define Your Goals: Outline what you aim to achieve with the microsite, such as awareness, conversions, or brand engagement. These goals will inform all subsequent decisions, from design to content.
Create a Content Strategy: Develop concise and impactful content that aligns with the microsite’s purpose. Avoid overloading users with too much information and instead focus on clear, actionable messaging.
Design for User Experience: An engaging design is essential. Prioritize visual appeal, ease of navigation, and mobile-friendliness to create a seamless user journey.
Incorporate SEO and Analytics: Implement SEO strategies to ensure visibility in search results, and use analytics to track performance and measure the site’s effectiveness.
Launch and Promote: Once the microsite is live, use social media, email marketing, and other channels to promote it and drive traffic.
Final Thoughts
Microsite development is a powerful tool for brands looking to engage audiences on a deeper level. By creating a dedicated digital space that serves a specific purpose, brands can improve visibility, engagement, and conversion rates. Whether it’s for a product launch, promotional campaign, or targeted engagement initiative, a microsite can be the key to delivering a focused and memorable online experience.
So, if you’re ready to take your marketing to the next level, consider investing in microsite development. It might just be the targeted approach your brand needs to stand out in a crowded digital landscape.

Oral History Metadata Synchronizer (OHMS)
I came across this by quite the circuitous route, but it’s very cool and I think exactly fits the bill of what I was looking for as a way to index—and increase discoverability of—and present audio and video content like interviews and first-person narratives—whether “oral histories” or not.
OHMS is a two-piece system for, first (free web account required), creating a timecoded index (and) or transcript from an audio video source and then, second, an open-source way of presenting that audio or video on the web so that it is searchable and allows for easy navigation to specific points of interest from the index.
Reading up on OHMS in turn led me to Omeka, a new-to-me open source CMS and web platform—or rather “platforms for sharing digital collections and creating media-rich online exhibits.” I could see this being useful not just for sites for libraries, museums, exhibits, and the humanities, but also for news and journalism projects—thinking deep-dive sorts of treatments and “microsites.”

Finally, how great is this 2013 Leonard Nimoy oral history from the Yiddish Book Center? It’s a great demostration of OHMS, but also a great unusual narrative from Nimoy, who is at least trying to speak Yiddish throughout. Fascinating!

keywords to use when looking for fun child-friendly games on flashpoint!꒰› ω ‹ ꒱☆〜
for those unaware, flashpoint is a program you can download onto your pc that has thousands of flash games from all around the web archived into one program! i have a tutorial on how to download it here!
always remember to stick to the OFFICIALLY LICENSED games! not that the third party games are bad or dangerous, but theyre just generally of a lower quality and not as fun. my favorite keywords list is under the cut!
MIMI'S FAV FLASHPOINT GAME KEYWORDS
nick jr (has everything from dora to blues clues to the fresh beat band and everything else in between!!)
Tumblr media
nickelodeon (has fun lego games, avatar/korra games, spongebob, and even games from classic 90s nick shows!)
Tumblr media
hasbro (barbies games, my little pony games (g3 and g4), littlest pet shop games, NERF games, marvel games, transformers games, etc!)
Tumblr media
noggin (not a whole ton of games because most noggin games got moved to nick jr, but a lot of games that didn't survive the switch were oobi games, miffy games, maisy games, and a couple moose & zee games!)
Tumblr media
disney (a big range of age demographics in this one! plenty of disney junior, disney channel, and classic disney movies games!)
Tumblr media
cartoon network (this ones for a slightly older demographic, 8-12 i'd say! lots of classic and modern CN show games to choose from here!! the naruto games were my fav as a kid)
Tumblr media
GirlsGoGames (a classic site for sure!! lots of fun dressup games and stereotypically "girly" games!)
Tumblr media
PBS (so many cute games!! clifford, arthur, mr roger/daniel tiger, etc!!)
Tumblr media
sesame street (pretty self explanatory here! i love these games :])
Tumblr media
polly pocket (a few unlicensed low quality games in the results here, make sure to play the real ones!)
Tumblr media
sprout (kinda like noggin, these are a lot of the games that didn't survive the switch to PBS kids! mainly bob the builder, a couple sesame street games, and thomas the tank engine)
Tumblr media
HiT entertainment (some more bob the builder and thomas games, fireman sam, and some really cute microsites [pingu, thomas & angelina ballerina])
Tumblr media
american greetings (really cute care bears games, and some games from rarer/forgotten 2000s shows like holly hobbie and maryoku yummy! [I LOVED BOTH])
Tumblr media
hubworld .com (basically a part 2 of hasbro. more mlp games, lps games, transformers games, etc!)
Tumblr media
mattel (more barbie, polly pocket, hot wheels games plus a ton more from other mattel franchises, including some fisher price games for very young ones!)
Tumblr media
some general flashpoint tips
make sure explicit content is turned off! you can do this in the config tab. if you have explicit content turned on, adult games can show up in searches (especially if you search stuff like my little pony)
avoid games that are from newgrounds, deviantart, etc. those games can be violent, gorey, or suggestive, and can pop up even if the explicit content is turned off
each game has tags, publishers, etc in the description that you can click on to narrow down your searches!
not all games work properly. some may glitch, have lost assets, or not load at all. these things will usually be specified in the "notes" of the description, make sure to read those before playing!
and most importantly, HAVE FUN!!! there are literally thousands of games at your disposal here to play around with. this program offers hours of fun for regressors or people who love nostalgia!
