I made macrame jewelry for over 20 years (hello, burnout) before switching to quilting. My stuff was mistaken for knitting and crochet pretty regularly. Here's the cording I used. It's much softer than standard hemp: https://www.etsy.com/listing/126251135/hemp-cord-10lb-5mm-micro-macrame-cord and https://www.etsy.com/listing/252311945/rainbow-hemp-cord-1mm-for-making-hemp plus the various other spools in that shop. I also used cotton .5mm cord, but it's sold on FMJ: https://www.firemountaingems.com/jewelry-supplies/stringing-material/cord/cotton-cord/ Very soft stuff, and it should work nicely with knitting, lace, and crochet.
Hey, thanks for the resources!

I made an elizabethan coif
Because why not.
Based on the Elizabthan Costume pattern, modified for my noggin (and to fit the tiny remnant of linen from my kirtle lining).
Plus a forehead cloth (due to aforementioned tiny remnant) based on some research by Amie Sparrow with freehand blackwork embroidery based on Sidney Eileen's research, (namely the unfinished coif with spirals and flowers) plus a couple modified cats for good measure.
The embroidery (obviously) took the longest while, I started it middle of November after doing a practice project of 18th century pockets (anachronistic for a Ren faire outfit but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Pockets.) Probably about 20-30ish hours? Amusingly the pocket practice was mostly for naught, in the early sections (very evident on the right) I started to get super ill and in my delirium did very poorly.
Then I did micro hems around the whole lot and added some cords I had from a Halloween project (godsbless because I went into a finger weaving rabbit hole that almost sank the project haha. I still might do some weaving for the kirtle laces, but for now, macrame cords are Fine™) But forgot to take photos of the flat lay, so here's the assembled coif and forehead cloth.
Anyway, what a delight it is to have needlework in the evenings and a little sewing bag to take on errands.

AkpaLa is the brand-new Organic House project of Pedro Mercado and Na Té: sexy, bohemian, hedonistic, oriental, ethnic, shamanic & spiritual sounds with a female touch - inspired by events such as Burning Man & Gardens of Babylon - is to be expected from them! Starting from 2022 their collab productions and their sets will be performed as "AkpaLa" instead of just "Pedro Mercado & Na Té".
https://www.beatport.com/release/analemma/4514545
Pedro Mercado is one of the most known Belgian Dj/Producers in the Progressive House and Melodic Techno scene, reaching regularly the Beatport Top 100 on many highly regarded international labels (Parquet, Krafted Underground, Tanzgemeinschaft, Particles, Proton, Bonzai, Frequenza, Natura Viva, Dear Deer, Beatfreak, Manual, Awen, Project 13,...) which gets him gigs all over the world. He is also label manager of Chrom Recordings. During the pandemic and lockdowns he got more and more into Organic House and with this new "AkpaLa" monniker he wants to make a clear distinction from his usual and known Progressive & Melodic style.
Na Té is a multi-talented female artist: next to her DJ/Producer skills she is also making micro-macrame jewellery under the brand name 'MyBohoHeartshop' & making channelled light-language artwork, and offering spiritual guidance under the name Blueyespiritlight.
In the past Pedro Mercado & Na Te released already several tracks & remixes together and 5 years ago they started a weekly radio show on Ibiza Global Radio. Nowadays they host monthly radioshows on Frisky Radio (Nomadland) & Proton Radio (Up-To-Deep). They are both also resident-DJs of the Planet Ibiza brand & The Karismatik Kollektive, and performed already B2B in Belgium, Ibiza & Berlin. Starting from 2022 they will use the monniker "AkpaLa" for their collab tracks and their solo and/or B2B sets in Organic House.

Today we had a lecture which introduced us to our next module. The module is called Trends Research and will involve searching and identifying trends on the WGSN website and other online sources. We shall be exploring and researching trends and how trends from one category such as fashion, will then influence another category such as interiors for example. We will need to produce a digital look book of 8 pages showing trends from a category and subsequently trends that are influenced by them or relate to them. We also need to produce a blog to show our research and work.
A trend is something that is changing and developing in its direction. WGSN is a company and website that specialises in forecasting trends by researching what is going on in the world and how peoples lives are being affected. It provides data and information to retailers and businesses so they know which direction to go in and help their business grow.
Trends can be sorted into types of trend, from a fad - to a micro tend - to a macro trend and so to a classic. This describing the impact and longevity of the trend. I remember the puff ball skirt/dress coming out but it didn’t last long and so this was a fad. In contrast to this the Dr Martin shoe/boot is a classic. Although it was once worn as work wear and also associated with certain subcultures, it has stood the test of time and is now a mainstream item worn by many.
We were given a 3 x3 task and worked in small groups. We had to choose an image from a sheet called ‘Healing crafts’ and place that in a triangle. We chose a knitted jumper with tassels and added embellishment which look like leather on the shoulders from @soil_and_company. We then had to find two other images that were directly related to that image/trend. Sheree found a Japanese designer ‘Babaco’ who specialised in relaxed knitwear and socks. The fine wool rubbed turtle neck seemed to relate to the craft aspect because it was knitted and had tassels and looked comfortable. Babaco (2022). I found a slouchy shoulder bag by Balmain, a fashion house from Paris, which had crafted details such as woven rattan, soft tassels and leather straps. Balmain (2022).
We then had to find 3 other trends from other categories that showed a direct influence from that trend. Sheree found art sculpture Haegue Yang. He uses a lot of items from different mediums for the sculptures - many of them relating to craft. Yang, H (2022).
Emily Katz is an interior designer who creates craft inspired interiors. Her designs use macrame, woven fabrics and have a natural, relaxed and bohemian feel to them. Katz, E (2022).
Crafting has also been associated with health well being. It helps peoples mood to think creatively. Craft kits and craft groups and books have been created to help with mindfulness. Knitting and crocheting are being used as therapy. Lynne Rowe and Betsan Corkhill have written a book ‘Knit Yourself Calm’. Rowe and Corkhill (2017).

Adding on for more ideas:
-kumihimo (you can both buy and make your own disks)
-embroidery (certain stitches like french knots, so think a sigil embroidered with french knots)
-macrame (micro and “large”)
I just want to take a moment to appreciate knot magic. It’s so versatile and easy to use.
Got long hair? Braid it, that’s knot magic. Tie your shoes? Boom, knot magic. Do you like to knit or crochet? Congratulations, that is very very very long knot magic. Tie a string around your finger to remember something. Knot magic.
