2025 The Grammys Predictions and Hopes
Record
Hope:
360 by Charli XCX
Prediction:
Now and Then by The Beatles
Non-Nominees Who Deserve to Win:
Caesar on a TV Screen by The Last Dinner Party
Tell me Who You Are Today by Beth Gibbons
I Believe All His Words are True by Joanna Wang
Explanation:
“Now and Then” is the most boring choice possible, so it makes sense that the Grammys would choose it. I love The Beatles to death, and I guess I am glad this song exist, but giving Paul and Ringgo an award for this is not the way to pay tribute them. “360” is a very catchy song, and “Brat” was a cultural phenomenon, so I hope it gets the prize.
Album
Hope:
BRAT by Charli XCX
Prediction:
BRAT by Charli XCX
Non-Nominees Who Deserve to Win:
Lives Outgrown by Beth Gibbons
Patterns in Repeat by Laura Marling
Something in the Room She Moves by Julia Holter
Night Palace by Mount Eerie
Hotel La Rut by Joanna Wang
Explanation:
“Brat” is “Brat”.
Song
Hope:
Good Luck Babe! by Chappell Roan
Prediction:
TEXAS HOLD ‘EM by Beyonce
Non-Nominees Who Deserve To Win:
Gemini by Haley Heynderickx
Child of Mine by Laura Marling
Explanation:
Beyonce has been snubbed a couple of times, so I’m sure she’ll go home with something. “Good Luck Babe!” is an exceptionally clever song with a gorgeous outro, so it has my vote, but I can live with it.
New Artist
Hope:
Chappell Roan
Prediction:
Chappell Roan
Non-Nominee Who Deserves to Win:
samlrc
Explanation:
Chappell Roan took the world by storm this year.
Producer
Hope:
Daniel Nigro
Prediction:
Dernst D’mile Emile
Non-Nominee Who Deserves to Win:
Leon Michels (the guy produced Charm)
Explanation:
Looking at the Grammy’s page, Dernst D’mile Emile has the most well known array of songs under his belt.
Songwriter
Hope:
Amy Allen
Prediction:
Amy Allen
Non-Nominee Who Deserves to Win:
Laura Marling (singer-songwriters are allowed, right?)
Explanation:
Amy Allen seems to have a lot of buzz around her, and she wrote a bunch of bangers for Sabrina Carpenter.
Best Pop Solo Performance
Hope:
Apple by Charli XCX or Good Luck, Babe by Chappell Roan
Prediction:
Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter
Non-nominee who deserves to win:
Image by Magdalena Bay (does this count?)
Explanation:
IDK. Sabrine will probably win something, right?
Best Pop Duo
Hope:
us by Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams
Prediction:
Guess
Non-nominee:
IDK
Explanation:
The Grammys seems to love Taylor Swift, I guess.
Best Pop Vocal Album:
Hope:
Chappell Roan, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Beauty Princess
Prediction:
HIT ME HARD AND SOFT by Billie Eilish
Non-nominee who deserves to win:
Imaginal Disk by Magdalena Bay (does this count?)
Explanation:
A Chappell sweep would be nice, but Billie is an industry favorite, and for good reason. Her win wouldn’t be an awful choice, even if Chappell’s album had a lot more to say.
Best Dance Pop Recording
Hope:
Von Dutch by Charli XCX
Prediction:
yes,and? by Arianna Grande
Explanation:
I feel like “yes, and?” was one of the bigger songs this year, even if it sounds like most of Arianna Grande’s other songs to me.
Beet Dance/ Electronic Album
Hope:
BRAT
Prediction:
BRAT
Explanation:
“Brat” is “Brat” is “Brat”. We are living in a “Brat” world, and I am a “Brat” girl.
Best Remixed Recording:
Hope:
von dutch
Prediction:
von dutch
Explanation:
“Brat” “Brat” “Brat”
Best Rock Performance:
Hope:
Broken Man by St Vincent
Prediction:
Now and Then by the Beatles
Non-nominee who deserves to win:
Caesar on a TV Screen by the Last Dinner Party
or
Holy, Holy by Geordie Greep
or
Joy by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Explanation:
I can’t say for certain, but the people who are judging this are probably a bunch of old white guys who would rather give The Beatles the award.
Best Metal Performance
Hope:
Crown on Horns by Judas Preist
Prediction:
Mea Culpa by Gojira
Explanation:
Gojira got a lot of buzz as a result of the Olympics. While I don’t love “Crown of Horns”, it’s impressive that a metal band is able to put out anything of this quality this late in their career. I’m sure both have a choice.
Best Rock Song:
Hope:
Broken Man by St Vincent
Prediction:
Broken Man by St Vincent
Non-Nominee who Deserves to Win:
Same as “see best rock performance”
Explanation:
I don’t think anyone cares about the other songs.
Best Rock Album:
Hope:
No Name by Jack White
Prediction:
No Name by Jack White
Non-Nominees Who Deserve to Win:
The New Sound by Geordie Greep
Cutouts by The Smile
NO TITLE AS OF 13, FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD by Godspeed! You Black Emperor
Explanation:
Jack White is a household name, and this work of his is a fun time with lots of his classic charm. It’s rock music for people who love rock music.
Best Alternative Music Performance:
Hope:
Song of the Lake by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Prediction:
Song of the Lake by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Non-Nominee Who Deserves to Win:
Sun Girl by Julia Holter
Explanation:
It’s not my favorite song on the album, but Nick Cave’s vocals are gut wrenching on “Song of the Lake”. In addition, Nick and his gang of seeds are an old, celebrated act, so I can see them getting the award. St. Vincent could also win because The Grammys want to seem young and hip, and I’d be fine with that.
Best Alternative Music Album
Hope: Wild God by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Prediction:
Wild God by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Non-Nominees Who Deserve to Win:
Lives Outgrown by Beth Gibbons
Night Palace by Mount Eerie
Hotel La Rut by Joanna Wang
Explanation:
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds put out one of their most personal and moving albums, they deserve it. In addition, they’re an old, celebrated act, so I can see them getting the award. I’d also be fine if St. Vincent or Clairo got the win.
Unfortunately, I’m not very well versed in current R&B, so I’m skipping the R&B nominees, as I haven’t listened to any of them. Sorry. Eh, you probably don’t care.
Best Rap Performance
Hope:
Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar
Prediction:
Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar
Explanation:
Kendrick gave a very funny, very high energy performance on the track, and the song became of the biggest moments of the year.
Best Melodic Rap Performance
Hope:
3:AM by Rapsody and Eryka Badu
Prediction:
We Still Don’t Trust You
Explanation:
Unfortunately, I don’t think that “3:AM” is the most famous song, and my evidence for this is that I didn’t listen to it until today. “We Still Don’t Trust You” was fairly big, if I recall, so my money’s on it, even if I find the performances on “3:AM” to be very pretty and full of personality.
Best Rap Song
Hope:
Not Like Us
Prediction:
Not Like Us
Explanation:
“Trynna hit a chord and it’s probably A MINOOOOOOR” has been stuck in my head for the last four or so months.
Best Rap Album
Hope:
The Auditorium, Vol. 1 by Common and Pete Rock
Prediction:
The Death of Slim Shady by Eminem
Explanation:
Giving Eminem the award is the exact kind of square move The Grammys would pull off. I hope they prove me wrong.
I’m skipping the poetry one, because I haven’t listened to any of them.
It is the same with the country and blues nominees.
Best Folk Album
Hope:
Bright Future by Adrianne Lenker
Prediction:
Bright Future Adrianne Lenker
Nominees Who Deserve to Win:
Seed of a Seed by Haley Heynderickx
Patterns in Repeat by Laura Marling
Explanation:
Adrianne Lenker has contributed so much to folk in the last ten years, she deserves this.
Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media
Hope:
Dune, Part 2 by Hans Zimmer
Prediction:
Challengers by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
Explanation: Yeah, it’s 50% the score to the first film, but I don’t care! Listen to that “aaaAAAAAAaaa”.
Best Alternative Jazz Album
Hope:
Night Reign by Arooj Aftab
Prediction:
Night Reign by Arooj Aftab
Nominee Who Deserves to Win:
Fearless Movement by Kamasi Washington
Explanation: Andre 3000 has more name recognition, but the people selecting the winner are probably jazz heads who don’t care about recognition.
Best Global Music Performance
Hope:
Raat ki Rani by Arooj Aftab
Prediction:
A Rock Somewhere by Jacob Collier
Nominee Who Deserves to Win:
Imouhar by Mdou Moctar
Explanation: The Grammys seem to really like Jacob.
Best Engineered Album/ Non Classical
Hope:
i/o
Prediction:
i/o
Nominee Who Deserves to Win:
Something In The Room She Moves
Explanation: i/o is a Peter Gabriel album produced by Brian Eno, and while neither engineered the album, it’ll rub off

... Behind The Music
Laura Nyro
She was not only an engaging performing, her songs were covered by everyone from Barbra Streisand to Three Dog Night
Writer and Music Historian John Einarson remembers the great singer & songwriter Laura Nyro on her birthday!
Born on this date, October 18, 1947, Laura Nyro (born Laura Nigro in the Bronx, NY), singer songwriter. She achieved critical acclaim with her own recordings, particularly the albums Eli and the Thirteenth Confession (1968) and New York Tendaberry (1969), and had commercial success with artists such as Barbra Streisand and The 5th Dimension recording her songs. Her style was a hybrid of Brill Building-style New York pop, jazz, rhythm and blues, show tunes, rock, and soul. Between 1968 and 1970, a number of artists had hits with her songs: The 5th Dimension with "Blowing Away", "Wedding Bell Blues", "Stoned Soul Picnic", "Sweet Blindness", and "Save the Country"; Blood, Sweat & Tears and Peter, Paul and Mary, with "And When I Die"; Three Dog Night and Maynard Ferguson, with "Eli's Comin' "; and Barbra Streisand with "Stoney End", "Time and Love", and "Hands off the Man (Flim Flam Man)".
Nyro's best-selling single was her recording of Carole King and Gerry Goffin's "Up on the Roof". For a time in the latter 60s her career was managed by a young David Geffen (photo below) who set up a publishing company for Nyro's songs and got her signed to Columbia Records after Nyro auditioned for Clive Davis in her apartment.
In late 1996, Nyro, like her mother before her, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After the diagnosis, Columbia Records prepared a double-disc CD retrospective of material from her years at the label. The company involved Nyro herself, who selected the tracks and approved the final project. She lived to see the release of Stoned Soul Picnic: The Best of Laura Nyro (1997), and was reportedly pleased with the outcome. She died of ovarian cancer in Danbury, Connecticut, on April 8, 1997, at 49.
Nyro's influence on popular musicians has also been acknowledged by such artists as Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Tori Amos, Patti Smith, Kate Bush, Janis Ian, Diamanda Galas, Bette Midler, Rickie Lee Jones, Elton John, Jackson Browne with whom she had a romantic relationship in the late '60s, Alice Cooper, Elvis Costello, Cyndi Lauper, Todd Rundgren, Steely Dan, Melissa Manchester, Lisa Germano, and Rosanne Cash. Todd Rundgren stated that once he heard her, he "stopped writing songs like The Who and started writing songs like Laura." Cyndi Lauper acknowledged that her rendition of the song "Walk On By", on her Grammy Award-nominated 2003 cover album At Last, was inspired by Nyro. Elton John and Elvis Costello discussed Nyro's influence on both of them during the premiere episode of Costello's interview show Spectacle. When asked by the host if he could name three great performer/songwriters who have largely been ignored, he cited Nyro as one of his choices. Elton John also addressed Nyro's influence on his 1970 song "Burn Down the Mission", from Tumbleweed Connection, in particular. "I idolized her," he concluded. "The soul, the passion, just the out and out audacity of the way her rhythmic and melody changes came was like nothing I've heard before."
A biography of Nyro, Soul Picnic: The Music and Passion of Laura Nyro, written by Michele Kort, was published in 2002 by Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin's Press.
One of the finest singer/songwriters ever.
