Why Metal Roofing is a Smart Investment for Your Property
When it comes to choosing the right roofing material for your property, there are many factors to consider such as durability, energy efficiency, and aesthetic appeal. While there are many options available, metal roofing is quickly becoming a popular choice for homeowners and businesses alike. In this article, we'll explore why metal roofing is a smart investment for your property and how BRS Roofing Supply, a metal roof supply company in Atlanta GA, can help you make the switch.
Tumblr media
Durability and Longevity One of the main benefits of metal roofing is its durability and longevity. Unlike traditional asphalt shingles that may only last 20-30 years, metal roofing can last up to 50 years or more with proper maintenance. Metal roofs are also resistant to fire, wind, and hail damage, making them a great choice for areas with extreme weather conditions.
Energy Efficiency Another advantage of metal roofing is its energy efficiency. Metal roofs reflect sunlight rather than absorbing it, which helps to keep your property cooler during the hot summer months. This can help to reduce your energy bills by reducing the amount of air conditioning needed to keep your property comfortable.
Aesthetic Appeal In addition to its practical benefits, metal roofing also offers aesthetic appeal. BRS Roofing Supply offers a variety of metal roofing options, including standing seam, corrugated, and metal shingles, all of which come in a range of colors and finishes. This allows you to choose a metal roof that not only performs well but also enhances the overall look of your property.
Low Maintenance Metal roofing requires minimal maintenance compared to other roofing materials. It is resistant to mold, mildew, and insect damage, and can be easily cleaned with a hose or pressure washer. This means you'll spend less time and money on maintenance and repairs, leaving you with more time to enjoy your property.
Eco-Friendly Finally, metal roofing is an eco-friendly choice. Most metal roofs are made from recycled materials, and once they reach the end of their lifespan, they can be fully recycled again. This helps to reduce waste and conserve natural resources.
Conclusion Overall, metal roofing is a smart investment for any property owner. Its durability and longevity, energy efficiency, aesthetic appeal, low maintenance, and eco-friendliness make it a top choice for homeowners and businesses alike. If you're considering making the switch to metal roofing, BRS Roofing Supply, a metal roof supply company in Atlanta GA, can help. With a wide range of metal roofing options and expert advice, they can help you choose the perfect metal roof for your property.

Preventing Water Damage: Fascia boards support the eavestroughs (gutters) and help direct water away from your home. If these components are damaged or deteriorating, water can seep into your roof and walls, leading to costly repairs.

Tandem (Levi x Reader)
Synopsis: The two of you work together seamlessly. Your clear intimacy was usually left unspoken... that is, until Eren asks the stupid question.
Word Count: 2.8k
Tags/Warnings: Language, Fluff, No Reader Pronouns
Notes: I think it’s funny that my last Levi fic was about Levi and reader like... hating each other hahaha. I guess I simply must bring balance
Tumblr media
“Do you have the—”
“Right here.”
Watching the two of you in action was fascinating.
Levi tossed you a canister from over his shoulder. The metal container flipped through the air, nearly smacking Eren directly in the face. He ducked just in time. The canister landed perfectly into your outstretched hand. You didn’t even look up from the crate of supplies you were tending to. Eren sputtered.
“Hey, watch it! You almost hit me!”
“Don’t be in the way.” You spoke the command in unison. Neither you nor Levi missed a beat. Eren caught a mutual eye roll as you and Levi continued to organize the new cargo shipment.
You secured a thick wooden lid onto your crate and made a tick on your clipboard. You maneuvered out of the way just in time for Levi to heave over an equally massive wooden box. He stacked it on top of yours.
“Tell me that’s all of it,” Levi grumbled, placing a familiar touch on your shoulder as he peered over your amassment of papers. You flipped the pages with a solemn shake of your head.
“Between what we brought back from the expedition and the disaster that was this last shipment, I’d say we’re done with barely half.”
“Fucking hell…”
Immediately after expeditions, your leftover supplies would be checked and consolidated into storage to prepare for the next outing and regular patrols. That had always been an undertaking and typically took the whole night. But when you were away, a new shipment of supplies had come early. A disorganized mess of various crates and trunks, Commander Erwin nearly hit the roof before he stormed over to the supplier’s office to complain.
The company had apparently shifted management, and the new owner thought he could cut corners. At least, that’s what you guessed.
Levi slowly turned to Eren as you made a few frustrated scribbles in your notes. The crease in his brow deepened, and a vein above his eye twitched.
“What are you doing just standing around, Jaeger?” Levi stepped forward, gesturing to the chaos of stacked and scattered materials across the room. “You think these big-ass boxes will grow legs and walk to storage by themselves?”
“Section Commander Zacharius sent us in here to help. He’s finishing up outside.” A bead of sweat formed on Eren’s temple. Levi stared wordlessly, scowling. “Sir!”
“You can help Jean,” you said, glancing up from your attempt at an organization sheet. You gestured over to where Jean knelt by a mountain of wooden crates. Heavy pouches and metal parts poured out of the sprawling containers. “He’ll need all the help he can get separating the flour sacks from the deconstructed ODM gear.”
Jean met Eren’s eye, exhausted and annoyed at the prospect of working with Eren on top of his menial task. Mikasa carried three boxes stacked on top of each other somewhere in the background.
The entire regiment worked into the night. Empty crates were slapped with proper labels, refilled with the correct material, and sent to storage. The rate at which you and Levi put together a plan was astounding, and you quickly ordered your exhausted soldiers around in teams to get the job done.
Jean and Eren worked to separate the flour sacks from the gear, moving gingerly to avoid crushing anything. Some bags were broken. Eren blew white particles off of a grip and onto Jean’s slacks. Jean scowled but was too tired to complain. The two of them took to sorting out the pieces of gear quietly, Jean placing the parts in their respective bins as Eren sifted through the mess of metal and wires. He was left with a small box of screws at the end of his work.
“Um, do we have a box for screws?”
“Screws?” Jean repeated, glancing over the closed crates. “No?”
Eren shrugged and put them in his pocket.
You and Levi continued to work seamlessly together, racing throughout the room and ensuring everything was sorted. You passed your clipboard back and forth as you elapsed each other. Eren could hardly see the handoff. He chased after you after he closed the last crate of flour.
“Section Commander!” you turned with a stack of random materials in your arms. The soldiers from your squads gathered around you, deliberating with each other over the orientation of the storage. “Jean and I finished. Where else can I be of assistance?” You handed your supplies to one of your team leaders, giving instructions before returning to Eren.
“Captain Levi has the list,” you said, moving another set of boxes down to the floor. Your team took to opening them. You looked down and groaned at the sight, running a hand over your face. Inside, the supplier had packaged together explosives and yeast. “What a mess.”
Eren ran off to find Levi, who stood in the courtyard supervising the organization of horse feed. Levi gave two firm slaps to a neat assembly of boxes as he addressed a group of six. The compilation had been mislabeled as “bread grains.”
“You’ll take these to the stables. You hear me? The stables. If I see a lick of this shit in the kitchen, you’ll eat horse food for the rest of your life.” Eren approached him cautiously, offering him a salute.
“Sir! How can I be of assistance?” Levi huffed, blowing a tuff of his bangs away from his forehead.
“I just gave the list back. Go ask the Section Commander.”
“Uh…” Eren croaked, having just spoken to you. “Well, I just spoke to—”
“Eren!” Armin appeared in the doorway out to the courtyard with a wave. The torchlight made his blond hair shine even more golden. “We need your help with the swords!”
“There you go,” Levi snorted, gesturing down the hall where Armin disappeared. He bumped Eren’s shoulder as he passed.
Luckily, things were beginning to wrap up by the time Eren nearly dropped from exhaustion. After the swords came lentils mixed with the smoke-gun pellets and then the tangled ODM wires. You and Levi were powering on at the same pace you had been for the night— perhaps even more rigorously— but Eren could see the burnout on your faces. A rule of thumb whispered among the cadets dictated that the two of you appeared visibly grumpier with tiredness, not that anyone would dare tell you that.
Levi maneuvered around you, snatching something you offered wordlessly in your hand. He sent off the last of the cargo boxes with a small team of drained recruits, and as he turned to you, he didn’t have to say a thing before you tossed the clipboard to him. He caught it like a frisbee.
“That’ll do it,” you announced. Your voice echoed off the stone walls of the now-empty room. “Thank you, everyone, for your hard work. I’m sure you’re very tired. Dismissed!”
Eren breathed a sigh of relief as you marched out of the room. He quickly took his leave, filing out with the rest of his friends as they trudged back to the barracks in exhaustion. No one said a word as they crossed through the courtyard, too drained from the expedition and the organization disaster to say anything.
Eren stuck his hand in his pocket, stopping short when he felt the small box of screws he had put in there earlier. Armin shot him a worried look as he started back toward the packaging room, too fatigued to ask where he was going. Eren said nothing, jogging back so he could return as quickly as possible.
You and Levi sat on the stone floor, back to back, as he read over the materials list. Your head tilted back to rest on his shoulder. He did the same, his short hairs brushing against your cheek. Two cups of tea sat on the floor next to you. That must be where you went when you dismissed everyone.
“The twenty units of ODM wire—”
“Southwestern storage with the grips,” you yawned. You closed your eyes, letting yourself slouch back into Levi. He said nothing as you nuzzled into the shoulder of his jacket.
“Updated uniforms and linens—”
“Forth floor. They need to be organized, but they can be distributed soon.”
“Great. Like we haven’t had enough of that tonight.”
Eren stood frozen in the entryway. He clutched the box of screws in his hand, stepping off to the side to avoid being seen. Something inside told him that he shouldn’t be there, that the scene in front of him was too intimate for his prying eyes. He watched on anyways, wondering if he should just wait until tomorrow.
You finished your tea, placing it on the ground with a disappointed hum. You reached for Levi’s and took it in the pads of your fingers. Levi brushed his cheek against your hair and tilted his face to look at you. He didn’t get very far with your head in the way.
“Excuse you,” he frowned. “You have your own.”
“Finished mine,” you muttered, half asleep. Levi shook his head before returning to read the rest of the list. He flipped a page.
At that display, Eren decided that he could definitely wait until the next day. Stealthily, he returned to the little, lit hallway to take his leave.
That was until the little box of screws clattered to the floor. The sound reverberated off the stone, causing both you and Levi to turn to the noise. You sat up straight with eyes snapped open with alertness. Eren cringed, picking up the box, and with no choice, he revealed himself.
“The hell are you doing up?” Levi snapped with a deep scowl. “You were just dismissed. Or do you want more work?” Eren almost flinched.
“I forgot about this.” He held up the forgotten cargo, giving it a rattle. You yawned again, a strangled noise of affirmation escaping you.
“Oh, thank you, Jaeger. You can leave that with me.” Eren scampered across the room to your outstretched hand. It dropped with the weight of the tiny container. With a simple thanks, you once again sent him on his way.
***
“Do you think the Section Commanders are, you know, together?” Eren asked in a hushed tone at the dinner table the next day. Armin’s forehead wrinkled in thought.
“Which ones?”
“Yours and Captain Levi.” Eren played absentmindedly with the leftover stew on his plate. The entire table seemed to stiffen. A few nervous eyes glanced around the mess hall for any leadership within the radius to overhear. Eren hardly noticed the way the former members of the 104th seemed to lean forward.
“I think they’re all together,” Reiner finally spoke, eyes darting around the room again.
“What? You mean like all at once?” Bertholdt laughed nervously, swiveling his head as he spoke. He rubbed at the back of his neck with his large palm.
“Yeah!” Reiner exclaimed in a hushed tone. The table leaned closer. He gestured emphatically with his hands. “I mean, you’re in this line of work. Everyone’s ripped and sexy—”
Connie let out a roaring cackle.
“You did not just refer to Captain Levi as ripped and sexy!”
Reiner sputtered as cheeky grins and bouts of laughter spread across the group. Reiner clutched the edge of the table as his pale skin turned a bright shade of red.
“You know that’s not what I meant!” he stammered, just about standing up to slam his hand on the table, causing various utensils to clatter. The noise was not too out of the ordinary for the cafeteria. “That’s not what I meant! I meant my squad leader!” Connie propped an elbow on the table, counting his fingers to accent his words.
“Section Commander Levi: ripped and sexy. Section Commander Miche: ripped and sexy. Section Commander Hange—” Reiner slapped Connie’s hand from across the table, causing Connie to just about go into hysterics. He collapsed into Sasha’s shoulder. Bertholdt tugged the back of Reiner’s shirt, urging him to sit back down.
“That is the opposite of what I meant!”
“You said everyone, Reiner!” Connie had nearly burst into tears. He heaved between labored breaths. “What— what if they…! What if they made— Hahaha! A calendar?! What if they made one of those sexy calendars?!” His deranged delirium was contagious, the taboo notion enough to make Mikasa cover her face with a shake of her head. She continued small bites of her food.
“Shirtless Levi calendar just for you, Reiner.” He stood at a loss as Jean reached up to knock against his bicep. Reiner sat down in defeat, hands rubbing over his face as Bertholdt gave him a heavy-handed pat.
“What made you ask, Eren?” Christa’s gentle voice somehow made it down to the other side of the table. He craned to be able to see her before looking off, wondering if he should say anything. He didn’t think for long, if at all.
“I walked in on them last night—” An eruption of astonished gasps and cries cut him off—a jumbled chorus of sounds molded over each other.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute!”
Sasha’s voice carried over everyone else’s.
“Levi and Reiner?!” She exclaimed. Reiner somehow grew redder.
“Of course not!”
“No, he means our captain and Levi, right Eren?” Armin clarified, and Eren nodded.
“When you say walked in on them—” Jean glanced around the room, eyes widening with emphasis. “Did you mean walked in on?”
“No, no,” Eren stuttered, running a hand through his scalp as he thought of describing what he saw. “I’d say they were more cuddling.”
“Cuddling,” Reiner repeated with a single downward nod. He crossed his arms over his chest as he squared his shoulders back. “You walked in on the squad leaders… cuddling.”
“Well, they weren’t really cuddling. They were sitting back-to-back against each other more… nuzzling. And sharing a cup of tea.” Eren trailed off, face contorted in a pained expression as he continued to play with his hair. Armin nudged him under the table, barely picking up his head to offer him the contrite look painted on his expression.
“Eren…”
“I think it’s kinda romantic!” Christa brushed a few hairs behind her ear. “Two soldiers fighting for their lives with no one to lean on but each other! I could see them together. Maybe Captain Levi would loosen up a bit if he was dating.” Ymir grumbled something incoherent.
“I think we’ve all been in a room where Captain Levi’s shared a cup of tea with all the leadership.” Reiner glanced around the table, unimpressed. “Is that supposed to be a euphemism or something?”
“It was the same cup!”
“Things sure are lively over here.” Everyone froze. “What are we talking about?”
You placed a warm hand on his shoulder. Eren’s eyes followed the length of your sleeve to your smiling face. You glanced over the group, slightly taken aback at the sudden silence. Levi came up to Eren’s left with crossed arms.
“We heard from everyone coming the other way that you couldn’t shut up, and now you decide to be quiet?” Connie met Reiner’s eye from across the table.
“The calendar,” he mouthed, and Reiner resisted the urge to throw a spoon at him.
“We were just talking about Sasha’s dating life!” Eren exclaimed, much to Sasha’s horror. You beamed.
“Oh, how fun!” Levi rolled his eyes, maneuvering around you.
“I’m grabbing food. You want the usual?” He leaned in slightly, a gentle touch on your back. The table watched with bated breath. You smiled and nodded.
“Yes, please!” With your confirmation, he left. You turned back to the table, your hand still on the back of Eren’s chair. “Dating! That’s so exciting! You have to tell me!” The group exchanged looks. Normally, they would tell you. That is if there was anything to tell.
“Are you dating, Section Commander?” Sasha quirked an eyebrow, hoping to turn the heat onto someone else.
“Oh, uh—” You stuttered, thrown off at the sudden question. You could feel the heat of their intense stares. —“No, not really.” You let out a nervous laugh. Surely you were missing something. You missed the silent eye contact Eren made with Armin.
“Not really?” Eren repeated, twisting his mug in his hands as he stared at his water. Reiner studied him, wondering that perhaps Eren had been onto something after all. Mikasa kicked Eren under the table. He flinched, composing himself just before Levi returned with your food.
“You guys are sure acting strange tonight.” Bertholdt refused to look you in the eye. You let out another nervous chuckle before taking your plate from Levi with thanks.
“They ran out of the rolls, but I got you the—”
“The baguette?” Your face lit up at the sight of the tiny baguette on the corner of your plate. You faced Levi with a grin. “Have I ever told you that you were the best?”
“Sure, sure.” He didn’t acknowledge the rest of the 104th as he stormed toward the exit. You offered them a wave goodbye.
“Sorry, we can’t stick around. I’ll see you all later! Good luck, Sasha!” With one last wave, you hurried after Levi and left together.
As soon as you were well down the hallway, the table erupted in debate.
Thank you to all who liked, reblogged, followed, and supported. Your support means so much and is greatly appreciated.

Bleeding White | Javier/Reader
Tags: Deep kissing, vignette, imagery of cannibalism and Catholicism Words: 536 A/N: For Kinktober: deep kissing, SFW. There is something wrong with the both of you tho.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Time spent apart — physically, at least, restrained now and then by nothing but the rules of polite company — seems to gnaw on Javier's patience, parasitic and greedy with the already limited supply of the stuff.
It infects some part of him, too, and Javier eats more than he kisses. He's animalistic once the courtesy of a normal-enough sweetness is met and he can indulge himself in your mouth, a wolfish cannibalization of Christ.
It's just as hard-edged as tearing through flesh, his teeth tasting like bitter tobacco and smoked meats peppered in hot spice that always seems to linger behind. Chapped lips bitten raw with nervous habits leave metal on your tongue when it passes over their broken skin. Just as bad as Javier is, you do it often, love the grunt of sharp discomfort as his lip splits open and the subsequent fervor that follows when he realizes you're biting those day-old wounds to taste his blood.
Some violence lays in passion, you think, the same adrenaline that finds you staring down the barrel of a gun making your heart beat high in your throat, feeling as though Javier could spit straight on it if he tried and certain he can feel your pulse drum beneath the pads of his fingers. The sounds he makes, those soft grunts and low satisfactions, are not all so different than those he gives hauling around bodies. You think of his strength, and shudder.
And the same sweetness is at its heart as that unholy communion of man and God, poet and Kamala, hunter and prey. Everything is all the same, anyways — maybe prey is always in command until it's caught, maybe all that changes is the state of witness to its vulnerability.
His hands grab at your hair, your face, your neck, yes— but beneath the possessive claim his palms lay on you in these moments, there's a ripe desperation. Javier is as reverent of your mouth as the starved man his first meal, sipping slow at saliva-sweet wine until his tastebuds forget themselves and need takes over, careless to what lays before him and devouring all the same.
Fingers curl into your hair, nails nipping the scalp, and Javier is pressed so hard into your face your jaw might pop right off, or become stuck to his, corners of mouths met and his tongue tracing out a sense of ticklishness from the roof of your hard palate.
He takes his fill, always; maps your mouth. It screams that his fierceness is for some grander reason than you looked so shocked the first time, amor, I'm just chasin' that high.
You suspect Javier would really like to know what's inside of you however he can, wants to know what the blood runs like deep in your gut and how the muscle of your lungs might feel against his. Desperation, like he's starved, and desperation like he's in love, too, the kind that pours sweet grapefire down one's throat and leaves him as wanting as an alcoholic for his next glass.
Javier's never been good at receiving things, after a life of so little practice with caging himself before a gift. He must take before it is even offered.

TW: character death; blood
When Simon regained his wits, he finds no sign of the vampire lady that enthralled him. He also has no idea how long he's been under his thrall. He finds himself waking up to an empty, patchwork room. The walls were made from broken pieces of cement, assembled together like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Thin sheets of tin metal was laid on top of the walls to resemble a roof, and barely managed to prevent exposure. Damp dirt, just dry enough to avoid becoming mud, served as the floor, with layers and layers of newspapers to act as some form of insulation.
Yet despite the lack of proper resources, someone ensured this post-apocalyptic shelter contained personal touches. Crayon drawings and half written lyrics were pinned on most flat surface. A mattress of scrap cloth was laid out beneath him, sewn together with wide clumsy stitches. And lying next to him, as if to keep him company, there sits a stuffed toy - its long, threadbare limbs fraying at the edges.
Simon woke up in Marceline's home. But Marceline was nowhere to be found. His hand automatically reaches up to his head, and his fingers brush the cold kiss of metal. She didn't take it off. Now, what could that mean? And where has Marcy gone? And why hasn't she come back?
He jumps to his feet, storms out the shelter, and runs - runs - runs. The sweet whispers of frost - no, shut up! Shut up! Something is wrong! He needs to go. Where? He doesn't - the Empress. She would know! He reaches into the Crown, pushing past its cold promises and seizes the heart of its power. He summons a howling wind that nearly knocks him off his feet before it carries him up and over and far - further - faster!
The sun is a sliver of orange in the horizon. The stars are already twinkling in the indigo sky. And perhaps, it would have been better if light had completely abandoned him - the whole damn universe already saw fit to forsake him, why not light as well? A shroud of immutable darkness would have shielded him from... from...
Simon never reaches the Empress - never finds her in whatever den of depravity she dug for herself. As a self-styled expert on lost and forgotten things, he is doomed to find precisely what he's looking for.
He spies an abandoned camp - torn tents and tossed supplies. He hears screaming - men, women, children. No, that's not important. No. There - pressed against the trees all broken and bent, there is a little girl. Except, she's not so little anymore. It's been years. He left her. He left her.
She was supposed to be safe.
He lands, soft as if afraid to wake her. But her eyes are wide open, staring sightlessly into the distance. A sharp thing - he cannot look. Her shirt is soaked through - there's so much. Her hand holds a stake - she hasn't let go.
Time stops for Simon Petrikov. His thoughts fade to depthless black. His body becomes a distant memory. The world dissolves around him like snowflake melting in his palm.
It's dark now. The sun sunk a long, long time ago. In the lack of light, he could almost, almost believe that he was looking at someone else - anyone else. This could be another girl with black hair, pointed ears, and grey skin. This could be another daughter of a different man.
The axe damns him. Its sharp blade nestled deep into her chest, sliding straight into the tree. The axe is bright red and sharper than the Devil's tongue.
She was supposed to be safe.
She was supposed to be protected.
She was supposed to have her father.
tHe CrOwn HuMS.
It sears with power, balancing on a precipice, awaiting his command. He only needs to ask. His will be done.
A branch snaps to his left. The bushes rustle as a creature leaps out, long fangs ready to sink into its next meal. Poor thing. It freezes mid-air, neither feet will ever touch the ground again.
Frost begins to sweep and curl across the ground. It swallows whole everything it touches - every leaf, every worm, every creature in its path. It crawls through the veins, solidfying lungs, entombing hearts. The living and the dead and everything else in between - all turn to ice.
No one is screaming now.
Simon grabs hold of the axe. His fingers brush against the embedded strings - her work, undoubtedly. He grits his teeth, letting every curse and cry rot within his throat. He pulls.
How does that old saying go? When hell freezes over? Well.
Simon can answer that one, can't he?

Second cigarette of the day, and it hung flaccidly from between fingers. A play thing. Red embers continued to devour, yet darkening thoughts refused to blow away with the carcinogenic smoke produced at smoldering end. Reno hated it . . the smell of cigarettes, actually. As if the weakness of surrendering to a vice was not a pounding to ego, the odour which clung to hair, clothes, and skin continued to remind and reprimand. Realization permeated as deeply as the stench, even as the lighter was flipped open, as the flame danced in eyes, and as the cigarette was removed from the half crushed box. Plenty of time to back out, yet turmoil acted as ten different voices shouting within his mind.
At least with the deadly ritual completed, frustration at himself was singled out; one disappointed voice better than several deafening ones. Only a third of the second cigarette was actually smoked, another third was left to burn as he watched quietly, and the last third — it fell from fingers. With a shocking amount of precision, it hit his target three floors down. Gunners dressed in company issued sweats and tees had been taking a break from their training, gathered in a cluster of three within the training arena. Of all the horrid things to possibly occurred, none expected to have a Turk watch them, least of all drop a cigarette.
From his height, the red head was unable to see the extent of the damage, but the single gunner yelled suddenly and ran around while attempting to dislodge the cigarette which had slithered past collar. Depending on his mood, a burst of inappropriate laughter or an apology would have been issued; he said nothing. Several pairs of heated and confused eyes looked upwards, and the sight of an unusually stoic Reno washed animosity away from tongues with freezing water. Maybe he could indulge in his mindless sadism later. At the moment, he pushed himself away from the railing over looking the impressive training hall and casually walked ( not sauntered ) towards the double doors leading to the elevator.
Black duffel bag full of supplies was carried with his right hand, hanging over right shoulder, and left hand was shoved inside the pocket of his ebony trousers to toy with the silver and scarlet lighter. He fingered the cool metal until it absorbed the heat of his flesh. DING. A light hum of the elevator mechanism, and the large doors opened at the helicopter landing pad on the building's roof. Hand moved away from lighter and out from pocket to hang awkwardly at his side whereupon the agitated tick of fingertips toying with the stitching of leather glove commenced. Leather binding palms and knuckles were a second flesh. Suit . . he could have done without.
Tiny gravel stones gave way with each step he produced on route to the awaiting helicopter. No recognition was given to the pilot, loathing the fact they needed a pilot, as the duffel was tossed in the back without much of a care. The pilot had, of course, not done anything ill, but the sight of him caused tongue to click against teeth with displeasure. The mission details including the part where Reno was not to pilot the helicopter in order to keep an eye out on his burden refreshed within mind. Tseng's emotionless voice. The mission file. The vile stench of smoke. Fuck, I shouldn't have smoked.
Now he was going to be stuck in reeking clothes AND be at the side of an unhinged gremlin. When the news had broke, even Rude, the bald and stacked pillar of a man, had reacted. Of course it was only Reno who noticed the reaction, for the red head had been stunned in the subsequent moments. Was it a punishment? Apparently not, but Reno called bullshit. He had tried bargaining with Tseng, offering Rude's services in the stead of a man Reno had personally helped to subdue. He wasn't fucking clingy, and not every mission required the services of red and bald, but why ruin something which worked? Fucking Tseng. Fucking shaddy ShinRa departments. FUCKING SEPHIROTH.
The infallible pillars of the ShinRa Electric Company crumbled in an instant. No, it had taken a little bit more time, but the dramatics of the situation made everything appear like a sudden explosion. The SOLDIER program was practically annihilated, and the Turks and . . the other scraps followed to pick up pieces. Neither a pessimist or an optimist, Reno knew there would be no repairing the wounds created by Genesis, Angeal, Zack, and Sephiroth. Fucking SOLDIERs. No one had listened to Reno, and how right he had been. . . .
No, Reno hadn't precisely predicted the dissension and desertion among the SOLDIERs, but the Turk had never trusted any of them. Bunch of mako freaks, and once again Reno was stuck with another caliber of freak. The red hair was a hair away from pulling out lighter to set fire to something . . anything, when Nero and his walker appeared from the same elevators Reno had emerged from a minute earlier. Equally scoffing and grimacing at the sight, the mouthy Turk pressed back against the sealed pilot door and defiantly crossed arms against his chest. Once close enough, he cocked his head to the side and spoke,
Tumblr media
(  ❛  Anything I should know? Favourite treats? What times does he need to be walked to go potty?  ❜  )
Tumblr media
Reno was proud of that one, almost enough to erase the shitty fucking circumstances of the fucked up mission. The red head did not allow it to show in his expression instead he moved for the ajar door and jumped inside with swift agility.
Tumblr media
(  ❛  Alright, freak show. You better be able to handle heights.  ❜  )

The day passed slowly and it was driving Fili mad. Kili’s pain only kept getting worse through the day. He had nearly collapsed after the company departed and when he, Oin, and Bofur took him to the Master for help, they were hardly shut down. Instead, they went back to Bard and begged for his help. Now, the sun had set and Kili’s groans of pain filled the small house. Oin was trying every medical remedy he could think of with the little supplies they had while Bofur and Fili did their best to be useful.
“Can you not do something?” Fili asked.
“I need herbs,” Oin said. “Something to bring down his fever.”
Behind them, Bard pulled more medicines from the shelf.
“I have nightshade, feverfew…”
“They’re no use to me,” Oin called. “Do you have any Kingsfoil?”
“No, it’s a weed. We feed it to the pigs.”
“Pigs? Weed? Right.” Bofur turned quickly and pointed at Kili. “Don’t move.”
Fili would have rolled his eyes if he wasn’t so worried about his brother. As Bofur ran out of the house, Fili wet a rag and laid it on Kili’s forehead. He felt helpless. He wanted to take his brother’s pain away, but he had no idea how. And seeing Oin scrambled for solutions made the feeling worse.
Suddenly, the ground seemed to shake. Dust fell from the roof.
“Da?” Sigrid said.
“It’s coming from the mountain,” Bain said, glancing out the window.
The dragon, Fili realized. The company had made it to the mountain, but the dragon still lived… and was awake.
Fili left Kili’s side to approach Bard.
“You should leave us,” he said. “Take your children. Get out of here.”
“And go where?” Bard whispered. “There is nowhere to go.”
“Are we going to die, da?” Tilda asked.
“No, darling.”
“The dragon, it’s going to kill us.”
Bard looked at his children for a moment before he reached for the roof. He suddenly pulled down a large metal arrow. Fili’s eyes widened at the site.
“Not if I kill it first,” he said. “Bain, come with me, son. Sigrid, Tilda, stay here with them. Help them with whatever they need.”
Bard grabbed his coat and quickly put it on. Bain did the same, following his father out the door. Fili looked at the sisters and tried to offer a comforting smile, but even he knew that he wasn’t doing a good job.
“Everything’s going to be all right,” he said.
He turned back to Kili, putting the rag back on his forehead.
Bain soon returned, though without his father. He explained that he had been instructed to hide the arrow then get away. He didn’t know what had happened to his father. Fili could see that the news worried the girls, but there was little that could be done now other than hope that Bard was all right.
Sigrid stepped outside briefly to get some air. The home had become stressful, so it was understandable that she needed to step away for a moment.
The roof above them creaked. Fili glanced up, puzzled for a moment. It almost sounded like… footsteps.
Suddenly, Sigrid let out a scream. Fili whipped his head around and saw her dart back inside, trying to close the door behind her, only to be stopped by an orc’s sword. Bain and Tilda also screamed.
The back door then burst open, revealing another dwarf. Oin quickly threw a stack of plates, hitting the creature in the face. Another came crashing through the ceiling. The one at the door pushed through and knocked Sigrid to the side. Fili rushed forward, shoving the orc against the wall. He did his best to disarm him, but the orc knocked him to the ground.
More orcs kept appearing, coming through the ceiling and doors. The children were screaming, frightened by the vile creatures suddenly appearing in their home. Fili tried to find whatever he could to fight back with, but resources were limited.
Just as an orc flipped the table where Sigrid and Tilda had been hiding, a familiar shout came from the back door. Fili’s head whipped around and his eyes went wide when he saw Oreliell and Vedis quickly step into the house.
“Stay down!” Oreliell shouted, beheading the closest orc.
Oin got down on the ground, putting himself in front of the children. Fili stayed in front of Bain, trying to stay out of the way of the elves. There were too many bodies in the small house.
Fili watched as the elves moved in fluid motions, weaving between each other, the fallen furniture, and other bodies as they fought. Oreliell and Vedis were in almost perfect sync with one another. They each used a pair of daggers, better for close-quarter fighting like this.
Kili suddenly shouted in panic. Before Fili could do anything, the red-haired elf had thrown her dagger into the orc’s head, retrieving it quickly to kill another.
Orcs were dropping quickly. The elves were pushing them away from the children. Fili wasn’t sure if they were doing so consciously or not, but they were keeping death as far from the children as the house permitted.
“Get down!” Fili said to Bain, pushing the boy down as an orc came toward them.
The redhead stuck her dagger in its arm, making it drop its weapon. Fili was shocked when Kili came up behind it and jabbed a knife into its ribs. He was quickly distracted though by another oncoming orc. Fili pulled Bain down further. Vedis was the one to kill the orc, twisting it away and pushing it out the broken window. She paused by the window though, her eyes trailing something in the dark.
“You killed them all,” Bain mumbled as he stood slowly.
Fili rushed to his brother’s side. Kili was squirming on the ground, holding in shouts of pain. Oin quickly dropped down, looking Kili over.
“There are others,” the blond elf announced, walking through the house. “Tauriel. Come.”
Oin looked at Fili.
“We’re losing him.”
“What happened?” Oreliell questioned as she stepped closer as she sheathed her daggers.
“He was shot as we were escaping down the river,” Fili said. “It’s only gotten worse.”
The blond called to Tauriel again before disappearing outside. Tauriel glanced at Kili once more before stepping outside, pausing again when she heard him groan in pain. Fili saw Oreliell roll her eyes before she and Vedis started moving. They began to rearrange the house, pushing furniture away and clearing room. They put the table back upright and Vedis began rummaging through the cabinets for supplies.
“Vedis,” Fili called. She glanced at him. “We’ve tried everything here. There’s nothing we can use.”
Her face hardened so much that Fili almost regretted speaking.
Just then, Tauriel stepped back inside, Bofur behind her.
“We can use this,” she declared. She looked at Vedis. “Help me.”
The mute elf nodded and grabbed the supplies they would need. Fili looked at Oreliell, who knelt slightly before the children.
“It’s going to be all right,” she said softly. “You have been very brave, and right now we need your help.”
She gave small orders to the girls, having them collect clothes and bandages. She then pulled Bain aside, using his help to take the orc bodies down the stairs and dump them into the frozen water.
The dwarves carefully lifted Kili up and brought him to the table. Kili was struggling hard against them. Fili jumped onto the table, adjusting himself in a way so he could hold his brother’s shoulders down. It faintly reminded him of a hold he would use when the two of them wrestled back home.
“Hold him down,” Tauriel said as she finished the Kingsfoil mixture.
She rounded the table and took hold of Kili’s leg, examining the wound. Fili could see that she tried to keep her expression clear, but he knew that it was bad.
“Come on, Kili,” he muttered. “Stay with me.”
Vedis came to stand next to Tauriel. She looked at the wound as well and took a deep breath. She nodded to the other woman, taking a small step back. Tauriel began to speak in elvish. She placed the herbs on Kili’s wound, causing him to shout more and struggle. Vedis quickly came around the other side to hold Kili down. Sigrid and Tilda tried to come over and help, but Vedis gently shook her head. Oreliell appeared and ushered the girls away, whispering quietly to them.
Fili’s gaze went from Kili’s wound up to Tauriel. Kili was calming down and Fili could only hope that whatever she was doing was working. Fili glanced at his brother, noticing that Kili was staring at Tauriel despite how drowsy he was becoming.
Kili’s eyes drifted closed. Fili felt a small wave of panic.
“Kili?” he said.
“He’s going to be fine,” Tauriel said. “I’m just going to bind his wound.”
Fili only stepped away when Vedis did. He looked at her for reassurance and felt that he could breathe a little easier when he saw her nod. Fili followed Oin toward the kitchen but kept an eye on his brother.
“I’ve heard tell of the wonders of elvish medicine,” Oin said quietly. “That was a privilege to witness.”
Fili looked over at Oreliell as she approached.
“Are you two all right?” she asked. “You were not hurt?”
“We are fine,” Fili said. “What about you?”
“Aye,” Bofur said, popping up beside them. “What happened back in Mirkwood?”
Oreliell bowed her head a little.
“We bought you all time to escape,” she said. “We were questioned by the king again then sent to another room. Turns out he was a little more willing to talk. But when we learned that the orc pack was pursuing you all, Tauriel helped us escape and we tracked you here. I wish we could have done more to prevent something like this from happening.”
“What matters is that we’re all right now,” Oin said. “And that is thanks to you all.”
“What of the rest of the company? Are they all right?”
“They went ahead,” Fili said. “We think they made it in time, but… I think they woke the dragon.”
Oreliell took a deep breath.
“Okay. Then we must prepare for the worst. But do not alarm the children. They are shaken as it is. If the company does not kill the dragon, then we must be ready to leave.”
The dwarves nodded.
It was a waiting game after that.
Kili was slowly regaining consciousness. Once he had some of his strength back, Bofur and Tauriel moved him from the table to a nearby chair. Every now and then, everyone would freeze as the ground shook. Vedis had positioned herself at one of the windows and stared out into the night. Oreliell however sat at the table, reclined back in her chair as she fiddled with her necklace. Fili had only seen the necklace a few times, but never got a clear look at it. He only knew that she pulled it out when she was nervous.
“Are you sure you’re all right?” Fili asked her, lowering his voice. He stepped closer toward her to try and keep their conversation private.
She looked at him and smiled only slightly.
“I am fine. The last few days have been long and I am looking forward to reuniting with our friends.” She sighed, twisting her necklace a little more. “Though I fear I won’t be fully settled until I see that they are all all right.”
Fili looked at her for a long minute.
“May I ask a question?”
“Of course.”
“You’ve known us for a little amount of time. How come you care so much for us?”
“You are your uncle’s kin, are you not? He cares deeply for you, so I feel it is right that I should care as well.”
He tilted his head slightly.
“Oreliell?” She hummed. “How do you care for Thorin?”
Her eyes snapped to his. He noticed that her fingers had stopped messing with her necklace.
Suddenly, a loud boom was heard. Their attention quickly turned toward the mountain. Tauriel stepped outside as the bells began to ring.
“What’s happening?” Tilda asked, coming from the bedroom.
Oreliell put a soft smile on her face.
“We must be ready to leave,” she said. “Gather what you need, and only that. Dress warmly.”
The children put on another set of layers, seemingly all they had. Outside, they could hear the rest of Lake-town beginning to evacuate. The house shook as a large shadow passed overhead.
“We have no time,” Tauriel said, stepping back inside. Her words caused everyone to move at a faster pace. “We must leave.”
“Get him up,” Bofur said. He grabbed Kili’s coat.
Fili began to pull Kili out of the chair he had been moved to.
“Come on, brother,” he said.
“I’m fine,” Kili said, shrugging his brother away. “I can walk.”
“As fast as you can,” Tauriel said.
“We’re not leaving,” Bain said. “Not without our father.”
“If you stay here, your sisters will die. Is that what your father would want?”
Fili made sure that Kili was stable on his own feet before he reached for his own coat. As he put it on, his eyes darted around to make sure they had not forgotten anything. However, he came to notice that Vedis had not moved from her spot by the window.
“Oreliell,” he said. The elven woman looked at him. “Is she all right?”
Oreliell looked in the direction he had nodded. Her shoulder fell a little at the sight of her sister. She glanced back at Fili.
“I’ll get her,” she said quietly.
Fili watched her approach Vedis. She gently placed her hand on her sister’s shoulder, trying to gain her attention. Oreliell called out to Vedis, forcibly turning her away from the window. He heard none of her words after that; he assumed they were speaking through Vedis’s mind magic.
“Quickly now,” Tauriel said. “Everyone down to the boat. We must leave.”

AO3 Chapter 14
Chapter Fourteen: There's Purple Everywhere
Word Count: 4.3k
When he woke up that morning, Casey wasn’t entirely surprised to find himself alone in Splinter’s bedroom. Raph and Mikey had left at some point and the aforementioned fatherly rat was nowhere to be seen either. He allowed himself a yawn and a stretch as he sat up, regretting not accepting Mikey on his offer of borrowing his or Leo’s spare PJs for the night before they went to bed.
He felt a bit stiff, but it wasn’t anything he wasn’t already used to back home, pausing as that thought crossed his mind. It was just a little ironic to think of a place like that as home compared to where he was now, even if it had many similarities with the present company. He sighed as he hopped off of the weird bumpy mattress Splinter called his bed as he dismissed the idea entirely, thinking about anything related to his original dimension just exhausted him, he would rather avoid it altogether for right now.
Casey purposefully waltzed out of Splinter’s bedroom without putting on his extra gear, having left it on the floor from last night. There wasn’t any reason for him to wear it in the lair, he would only need it if they left for another mission.
Speaking of doing things outside of the lair, Casey needed to find the others to see what the plan was for today, they had mostly been hanging around the lair as of late, other than the trip he had taken with Donnie yesterday. Raphael had mentioned Donnie probably needing them to go for a scrap run at some point to get him some more supplies for whatever he might be making to rescue Leo. Now that he thought about it, Raph had been muttering about Donnie all night, maybe he and Mikey went to go check on him this morning.
Casey walked out into the common space of the lair, passing through the projector room and down the steps to where the train cars started. He assumed Donnie would be in his lab, that was one thing that didn’t change with time, and he was proved correct as he jogged the rest of the way when he heard voices echoing off the walls as he got closer.
“I don’t have time, I put it to the side to work on later. This takes priority. I’m only one turtle Raph, I’d clone myself but that would take time away from this too.” He heard Donnie’s voice first, pushing the ajar door open wider so he could step fully inside. All three of the turtles were there, Donnie was crouched on Raph’s shoulders as the snapper was leaning against a weird giant metal pod thing and Mikey was handing tools to the four mechanical arms coming out of Dee’s battle shell. Raph offered him a wave when he noticed him, which he tentatively returned as he walked further inside the room.
“But Dee, you said you might be able to strengthen the radio from our end, if you can do that, wouldn’t we be able to hear Leo?” Raphael asked, grunting as Donnie shifted to put a foot on his head to reach around to a new angle on the pod’s roof.
“I did not guarantee that, but, Leo cannot respond to us through the radio and I am also developing a theory he can’t hear us as well as we thought. I was asking him questions last night, and the data I gathered proved my theory correct. I noticed an inconsistency and started asking him random questions.” He turned and lifted his goggles to look at his older brother.
“Did you know Leo is no longer a turtle and never has been? I asked him and he said no.” He informed them with a straight face before putting his goggles back on and turning back to his work. Mikey giggled while Raph made a face. Casey went to sit next to Michelangelo as he listened to the conversation, the box turtle gave him an affectionate shoulder bump before returning to attending to Donnie’s robot arms.
“I mean, isn’t there a chance he is telling the truth?” Raph tried to poke around with Don’s logic, a dangerous game for anyone.
“Indignant scoff. I highly doubt it, dear brother. From what my comatose lab partner has told me, the Krang looked like that before during and after entering the prison dimension, I doubt Leo was affected by it or anything else there.” He started to weld again, startling Raph as the sparks spewed everywhere around him from above.
“Donnie!” Raph tried to protest, doing his best not to move to offset his younger brother’s balance. Donnie noticed his protest but continued to weld anyway. Casey and Mikey shared a short giggle.
“But, wouldn’t it be easier to make sure Leo is okay if he could answer back? Maybe he could help us get him home from his side.” Casey prompted the purple turtle. Donnie glanced his way as he let his head quirk to the side at the question. He hadn’t thought about it from that angle before, it wasn’t like Leo didn’t have access to materials to build something similar to Donnie, tools were limited, but if they truly had open communication he could simply tell Leo what to do to solve that problem. There was the entire half of the Technodrome obliterated on his side of the dimension, that was a decent amount of materials to workshop into… something.
He doubted he would run into the attention span problem with Leonardo in this predicament, he had no choice but to listen to his twin for once when he info dumped. But, there was still his concern about time. Maybe he could afford to fix their communicative link for the time being, if he had Leo working on something from the other side, things might go faster and turn this puzzle into an easier one to solve.
Before he could even begin to concede and pause working on the Leo-Pod, his lab door was thrown open with enough force to create a crater in the concrete wall. Donnie was startled, comically falling off of his brother only to be grabbed and held by an equally caught-off-guard Raph. Everyone looked to the door in surprise, but it faded when they saw their older sister.
April was proudly standing in the doorway, a cunning smirk on her face as her eyes zeroed in on Casey. The apocalyptic teen had a small sliver of fear run up his spine about what that look meant.
“I am here to kidnap our newest bro! He is coming with me and Cass to volunteer with city cleanup whether he likes it or not!” April strutted further into the laboratory, playfully ignoring the turtles as she stopped to dramatically raise a neatly folded pile of clothes she had in her hand out towards Casey. The apocalyptic teen raised a brow as he stood and made his way down from the platform he and Mikey had been sitting on to accept her offering of new clothes. It was simple, just an old white tank top and some dark grey sweatpants.
He gave it a skeptical look, it wasn’t like he had never seen normal clothes before, but he certainly wasn’t used to the idea of walking around on the surface without his typical attire. He especially didn’t want to let go of anything he had left of his Donatello either, he treasured all the Genius Built™ clothes Don had given him over the years.
But, maybe he should learn to loosen his grip on everything from the… Past? He looked up at April’s eager smile, it was a look that was meant to encourage him, he was sure. She was just trying to help him out, probably planning to show him the world without the Krang’s rule, maybe help him meet some people.
He returned her smile as he considered what to do with his stuff in the meantime. He turned to look at the others.
“Can I leave my gear in the lab for… safekeeping?” Casey asked hesitantly to Donnie who was still seated in Raph’s arms. That seemed to shake everyone from their initial shock, Donnie clamoring to get out of his big bro’s hold and righting himself as he nodded, his eyes going wide as excitement filled them.
“Of course! I could even make some improvements while you’re away if you’d like! I could clean them up, throw in some scented detergent, free of charge.” He seemed a little too eager to be granted access to Casey’s gear as he practically skipped over, but he supposed it was really for the chance to see if his apocalyptic timeline self had done anything he hadn’t thought of or made yet. Either way, whatever he could gain from caring for Casey’s worn armor would probably go over his head, and he was only a little eager to downsize capacity.
“It's settled then! I’ll be waiting for you in the kitchen. Mikey, I want a few snacks for the road, if you don’t mind!” April teased the youngest in the room as she moonwalked back out into the lair, the orange ninja’s eyes practically sparkled as he bounced out after her.
“I am going to blow Casey’s mind with my sandwich skills!” He cheered as he disappeared after her. Casey chuckled as he went in the opposite direction to follow after Donnie who guided him to a room to change.
-----------
It had been a few hours since Casey and April had rendezvoused with Cassandra outside of the sewers and made their way to one of the relief camps the New York citizens had set up along the streets. It was a massive effort, it surprised Casey how fast everyday people who hadn’t seen the worst of the Krang invasion were capable of setting up tents and stalls to freely hand out food and clothing provisions. It was only a little concerning to him when they saw men with guns every few blocks, but April had assured him they must’ve just been police or military guys who were sent to help maintain peace, like keep people from stealing and fighting over supplies and such.
It wasn’t an entirely unfamiliar thing for Casey to see, but it didn’t feel right not to be able to recognize the “peacekeepers” like he normally did back in his timeline. It just made him glad that he won the argument about whether or not he should bring his hockey stick along, but after a few solid points from his end, everyone caved and let him take it with him to the surface. Casey might’ve been ready to downsize his gear, but he wasn’t ready to stop carrying his weapon around, you never knew where the Krang or the infected could still be lurking.
Cassandra had been actively volunteering that day, they had visited her at a stand where they were giving shoes away to those who needed them, but April had explained she mostly wanted to get Casey some clothes while there was a chance without spending a whole lot of cash. It was also a tactic to get him to see more of the modern and less apocalyptically rocked New York.
Casey appreciated the gesture, it was something he had been curious and overwhelmed with since he first got to this timeline, but he couldn’t help but be a bit disinterested. It was hard to think about meeting people when he wanted to be back at the lair and helping the brothers get Leonardo back. But, he supposed when the time came for him to help or fill in a role, they would ask for him to come back.
It was hard to leave the lair in all honesty, he was used to the whole “no man left behind” in most circumstances from the resistance, walking out of the lair felt like he was giving up on saving Leo. He fought those thoughts back though as he forced an awkward smile as April presented a black T-shirt with a band logo on it, she was gushing about things he didn’t understand but accepted the shirt anyway.
“I’ll have to play some of their songs for you when we get back, Donnie has some nice speakers that we can drag out to use. I’m sure he won’t notice them missing while working in his lab.” She giggled with a little too much evil glee before turning back around to find more shirts for Casey. He glanced away from her as she dutifully dug through the massive pile of donated clothes to take another look around. So far, other than the Hamato family and April and his own mother, Casey hasn’t seen anyone else he recognized from his version of this world.
It made his heart sink as his eyes mindlessly scanned the crowd. He watched mothers and their children digging through clothes, groups of young boys carrying jugs of water in each hand as they left the market, and even some people with bandages on their heads and arms. That was one of the few things that did look familiar.
Until he saw a head of lavender hair shimmying through the crowd. If he didn’t recognize the hair, he did recognize the jacket. Casey’s eyes went wide as he nearly dropped all of the clothes April had piled into his hands. It was Kendra!
Casey remembered Kendra, and the stories about her brother and friend who ran a group named “The Purple Dragons”  before the apocalypse, before Kendra (from his timeline) had taken the title herself. The version of her that he knew was THE Purple Dragon. She was a high-time rival of Donnie and a passive-aggressive fighter in the resistance.
It was easy to say that one got along with her, but she did her part and earned respect as she worked alongside Donatello regarding his tech and the advancements needed for their survival. She voiced her opinion loudly about it being a bias that Donatello was in charge of all their tech, that everything went by his design, his blueprints, but no one had the energy to care about her protest. Casey’s Donnie had done his best to keep the ships, bases, and other tech-cored utilities minimalistic to create as much as possible, no one wanted to shift the balance of resources just because someone else wanted to be in charge.
And Master Leonardo’s word was as close as they got to law, no one wanted to create a mini democracy in the apocalypse, they wanted their orders because they wanted to survive, and they had too much faith in Leonardo to consider changing every method that came under scrutiny.
They weren’t perfect, but neither was their world, and the world was all that mattered.
Regardless, Casey went through a revelation as his memories of his timeline’s Kendra ran through his mind, a light bulb going off in his head. Maybe a collaboration between the purple turtle and the purple dragon was necessary once again.
“Command- I mean- April, I’ll be back in a second.” Casey only gave her a second to react before handing back the pile of clothes she had given him, jogging over to the long-time rival of Donatello. She seemed to be on her phone, but he noticed her eyeballing anyone who came near her as she stood by a stall. What was she doing here? He didn’t see her carrying any clothes or food.
“Kendra!” Casey called out without thinking, making the girl’s eyes go wide as her sharp gaze snapped right onto him. He saw the familiar hostility there, and for some reason it almost made him relax before he realized his mistake. Kendra doesn’t know who he is.
He got closer and her sharp gaze turned to a disgusted glare.
“Do I know you? Are you a fanboy?” She used a tone that made it sound like she was accusing him as she looked him up and down, but Casey wasn’t bothered by it. When you’ve known someone as stand-offish as her for a few years, you tend to learn how to disregard the bite in their words.
“Sorry, we haven’t met, but I know you. I wanted to ask for-” He was interrupted as he felt a hand grab him on the shoulder and violently pull him back a few steps. He looked over his shoulder to see a very sour-faced April.
“What are you doing?!” She whisper-screamed from behind him. Kendra raised a brow as she took another glance at her phone, but it seemed to falter at whatever she was reading. Casey noticed.
“This is Kendra, THE Purple Dragon. She could help Donnie with the pod.” Casey explained in a whisper for Kendra not to overhear with a way too cheerful smile on his face for April’s liking. April mimicked Kendra’s brow raise from a few moments ago, full of skepticism and some disbelief. She glanced at Kendra and then back to Casey.
“Oh, yeah? Kendra? The girl I have known since elementary school, the one who would trick an old lady into letting her help her cross the road and rob her blind before she got to the other end of the crosswalk? Yeah, let's ask her for help and bring her into the lair and Dee’s lab where she will totally swear not to break or steal any of his stuff.” April deadpanned at Casey as he nodded. Kendra cleared her throat, rolling her eyes as they both looked at her.
“Look, do you need something fanboy or can I go back to ignoring you?” Kendra asked with clear annoyance in her voice, not even looking at them anymore as her eyes were trained on the glowing screen of her phone, typing away to whoever she was texting. Casey had an idea of who she was talking to, and who she was talking about. He wanted to gain her trust to get her to help the turtles get Leo back, it would also take a lot of strain off of Donnie if he had another computer wiz helping him.
He had to convince her to help without sabotaging them, he already knew everyone’s extensive history with the turtles, Leo liked to hold grudges even if he didn’t let it affect his role as the leader of the resistance, but no reformed villain went without their history logged in case of betrayal. This was a massive opportunity, Casey was used to the idea of building allies, even if the histories were stark, they needed Kendra to get Leo back. But how would he convince someone as skeptical and selfish as her to be willing to help without any strings attached?
Casey decided he would have to tell her the truth, it was probably more complicated than any lie he could fabricate, but if he used his knowledge of what happened to the other dragons, maybe it would be enough to convince her, at least this once. April was going to hang him out to dry though if this didn’t work.
“So, uh, this is going to be hard to believe, but I am from the fu-” April slapped a hand on his mouth as he started to pour it all out into the open, her eyes going wide and crazy as she stared at him.
“Are you insane?” Was what her expression told him clear as day. Casey gave her a pleading look and she gave up, letting go of his face.
“I have to convince her to help, I have to tell her the truth,” Casey explained, “It’s the only way to get her on our side, at least for a couple of days.” He tried to convince April, who was still giving him a wide-eyed I-Can’t-Believe-You’re-Doing-This look.
Kendra wasn’t paying attention, still typing away on her phone as Casey went to try again, but he noticed how worried her expression became with her eyebrows coming together as she frowned, biting her lip.
“It’s your brother, isn’t it?” Casey asked, once again, without thinking. Kendra’s eyes went wide before they grew fierce again.
“Wow. A real fanboy. You know he isn’t my real brother, right?” Kendra snapped a little too harshly, Casey recognized the hurt in her voice. It was rare for her to ever bring up the other members of the purple dragons in his timeline, they hadn’t made it long during the Krang invasion. Casey remembered the few times she talked about them, alongside those who talked about the ones they lost and missed, he remembered how lonely she had been without them.
She might’ve been course and rude and kept everyone at arm-length, but she had a family in that group, and they were gone after the invasion. Casey felt a little bad about it, but he had to take advantage of knowing what happened to them.
“It doesn’t matter. You’re worried about him, right? Is he okay? Did he get hurt?” Casey asked as gently as he could, Kendra was a ticking time bomb of anger most of the time, but he hoped she was less volatile at a younger age. She eyed him with suspicion, lowering her phone just a fraction as she finally gave him her attention.
“Do you know something I don’t, fanboy?” Kendra asked him with that same accusing tone, hiding her phone in her jacket pocket as if he had learned it from there.
“I know that you’re worried about your brother and your friend.” Casey ignored the implication of him not being her blood brother, but he had to find a way to connect her and Donnie’s struggles, if he could get her to empathize (which might be impossible) he could convince her to put down her guard and help Donatello with his project to save Leo. Kendra wasn’t leaning into it yet though, crossing her arms and popping out her hip.
“Do you know me or something? What do you want?” He might as well get to the point.
“Do you know Don-” April once again scrambled her way into the conversation to interrupt Casey.
“Othello! You remember my good pal, Von Ryan, right?” April was sweating as she blurted Donnie’s moniker out, not quite sure why covering up his real name really mattered in the long run, but she didn’t want Casey spilling Dee’s real name without his permission, especially to Kendra of all people. Casey was downright confused by that, he had never heard that name before, but he decided to roll with it.
Kendra’s aura completely shifted to irritation as he could’ve sworn her eye twitched.
“Of course, how could I forget?” She said it with enough venom in her voice to take down an elephant. Casey felt more nervous from that and the wickedly innocent grin on her face, but he had to keep pushing.
“Yeah- uh- Othello is a close friend of mine and he needs your help.” Casey started to explain. Kendra laughed, grabbing her stomach as she stagged back from them.
“Oh-OH! No! No way he has you guys coming to beg me for help! Oh, I need to record that, can you get him to say that himself? That he needs my help?” She laughed again, causing a few passersby to glance at them curiously. Casey had an awkward smile as he waited for her to stop, but she didn’t.
“You-HA! Do you really think I would help Othello Von Ryan? That loser!” She giggled maniacally at the thought. April rolled her eyes as she took charge.
“Yeah, yeah, laugh it up, Kendra. Look, this is serious. You know how your brother is messed up or whatever, Othello is going through the same thing.” April explained in a deadpan voice, and Casey was eternally grateful for it. If anyone was able to coax something out of Kendra, future or present, it was Commander O’Neil.
Kendra seemed to sober up after that, her laughter dying quickly as surprise crossed her expression for a few seconds before reverting back to her stand-offish glare.
“Oh. And why would he need me?” Kendra asked, seemingly without her own permission for the words to come out as she looked sheepish about asking, her curiosity about her biggest tech-making rival supposedly needing her help taking over. April sighed dramatically.
“Look, it's a lot to explain, the Krang came and basically took his brother- my brother too, by the way- and we can’t… Find him. Othello could use more help making his… device to find him.” April admitted, trying not to get too specific, the time would come to tell her the truth about the scale on which they can’t “find” Leo, but that wouldn’t happen if they don’t convince her first. Kendra seemed to consider it for a moment, eyeing April before looking at Casey.
“And what do I gain from this?” Kendra asked, which April saw coming.
“How about Othello helps you with something in return?” April offered, which she knew would definitely cause a fight between her and Donnie, but if Casey’s idea worked and everything went smoothly, this was worth the headache of anything Kendra could do. Kendra seemed interested, but still somewhat unconvinced. Casey sighed.
“Kendra, look, we lost someone in our family. We want to get him back. We’re worried about him, we don’t know where he is or if he is safe. We just want him back home with us.” Casey was practically pleading now, and it seemed his puppy-dog demeanor was working on her, just a little. Kendra’s eyes softened a bit as she looked away, frowning. He felt like she wanted to say something, but she held back.
“Fine. But I’m not working for free. Von Ryan better compensate me for my time like you said he would.” Kendra’s harsh glare returned as she set her terms. Casey and April both nodded.
“I’ll text you when we’ll meet up for it.” April decided to end the interaction there, dragging Casey by his arm before he could get them into more trouble with Donatello.

Do Metal Roofs Make Noise?
When weighing metal roofing versus asphalt shingles, a lot of people raise this query: When it rains, do metal roofs make a noise? The quick response is no, not always. Standing in a barn or shed when it's pouring is most likely where people get the impression that metal roofing is noisy. It all comes down to the roofing installation techniques, which vary depending on whether a building is residential, commercial, or agricultural. The truth is that properly placed, premium metal roofing shouldn't make more noise than standard asphalt shingles.
The use of plywood decking, insulation, and underlayment during traditional roofing installation adds protection and lowers noise. First, the plywood decking or sheathing layer is put in place. The underlayment is next added and acts as a moisture barrier. Finally, insulate the attic airspace beneath the attic.
The metal panels are attached directly to the structure without the need of the usual components of a roof installation. This indicates that there is no barrier to lessen noise transfer to the building's interior. Secondary buildings like barns, sheds, and other agricultural structures frequently have this type of design.

Tips for Lowering Metal Roof Noise:
Here are some suggestions to lessen metal roof noise if plywood decking, underlayment, or insulation were not used during installation of your metal roof:
Add Insulation - Insulation acts as an acoustic barrier to block noise from entering your building's interior.
Additionally, it increases the building's energy effectiveness, assisting in the total reduction of energy expenses.
Fasten roof panels properly - The key to decreasing noise is proper installation. Avoid over- or under-tightening fasteners by using the right ones. For the proper placement and spacing of fasteners, follow the product manual.
Replace your roof - Think about replacing your roof and installing a new roof for your home or business using conventional techniques. Having thermal, moisture, and vapour barriers all in one piece, insulated metal panels are another excellent choice.
Conclusion:
Metal roofing is not any noisier than conventional shingle roofing when installed with insulation, underlayment, and decking. Roofing made of metal offers greater longevity, durability, and sustainability as compared to shingle roofing.
