Kal Skirata, Jango, Orum Wa and the Nulls (by me, Nocturius)
Nocturius: Oh crap, I thought I've already shared that one here, but, hey, enjoy!
It's a piece I made on Krita last Winter. It feel aaaaaaaaaaaaages ago since do RC and TBB content (well... mostly memes tbh) on a regular basis.
It took me over 50h to do. 9 characters, Tipoca City and the work of light and storm. That was an hard one for sure! Still not 100% happy with the perspective, shading and composition but that's a ''me'' problem as an artist. I tried hard to respect the books description and also material from The Clones Wars and Attack of the Clones for the visual as reference pictures. I found some useful concept art online too. That was a very formative project. I think it was the first time I did piece directly on Krita instead of scanning a sketch. I was getting more confident with my stylet and wacom!
----
Here some WIP, for the funzies.

Go well with that fine fan-made audiobook reading of that exact scene! (no need to have read the first book to enjoy ^^)

If we look cute enough, they will surely blame it on the alphas. 👉👈🥺
In order: A'den, Mereel, Ordo, Prudii (hiding), Kom'rk, Jaing.
Kal: OHhhhhh, you know where you shove up those tooka eyes, you think I was born yesterday, rascal sheb'ike!!! You won't get away with it this time!
Narrator: They, in fact, got away with it. Again.

Teach a Null to fish and they will bore the shab out of themselves.
No.
Really.
As soon as Kal leaves them alone with the task, they drop the fishing rod to ground, get the thermodetonators out and Kyrimorut will eat fish for weeks.

Kal: There's nothing better than a happy ad. Alpha-17: You haven't met a happy and safe ad then. Fox, running to Kal: Ba'vodu! Kal, sweeping Fox up: Fox'ika, how have you been? Fox, grinning cheekily: Happy and safe! Kal, laughing: Seems I have met one then. Fox: Where are the others? I have something to ask my ori'vod, Mereel! Kal: They're scouting our surroundings. Why don't you go see if you can find all of them? Fox, after being let down: Ok! Kal, after Fox runs off: How's the beskar'gam treating you? Alpha-17: It feels odd... Kal, chuckling: I bet it does! That old armor was practically your second skin. You grew up in it. Alpha-17: Yeah...but I don't miss it... Kal: I see you made some...interesting choices with your new armor... Alpha-17: Respectful choices. Kal: They better be. Jango is going to see right through your strategy. If you do it right, though, you might get his reluctant approval. Alpha-17: That's my hope. Kal: I'm guessing Fox is going to ask Mereel if he knows about Jaster Mereel. Alpha-17, chuckling: He's learned a lot about him, so I have no doubt.

So, the idea of the Bad Batch (minus Echo, plus Emerie) being the other half of the Nulls has consumed my goddamn mind. Therefore, as you do when an idea takes up residence in your frontal lobe for the foreseeable future, here's some headcanons.
The Bad Batch (except for Echo and Omega, who have no clue what's going on) hate the Nulls. As in, "murder on sight" hate them. From an in-universe perspective, there could be a myriad of reasons, ranging from feelings of abandonment to resentment over them having a better life. From a writer's standpoint, it's because I love me some good old familial dysfunction and angst.
The more...unhinged...tendencies the Nulls are known for manifests in the Bad Batch more as "let's jump off this cliff and use explosives to direct our fall!" and less as "hey, check out my new skin gloves!" Of course, if you push them too far, it's a different story. In order of least to most likely to pull a "lemme turn you into an art installation," it's Omega, Wrecker, Hunter, Crosshair, and Tech. Omega wouldn't do that, at least not at this point in her life. Wrecker, when enraged, goes for the just-hit-them solution. Hunter's a decent human being and usually wouldn't do something like that...Unless his kid's been kidnapped by a crazy Imperial doctor for the fifteenth time, on which point he starts becoming a little deranged. Crosshair hovers close to the line but wouldn't do it to someone unprovoked. Tech is a special case, in that he has to be pushed, but when he is, the results make the rest of the Nulls go "JESUS FUCKING CHRIST."
The Nulls want to reunite with their lost siblings and build a relationship, but that's kind of hard to do when said siblings (except Omega) keep trying to kill them on sight and none of them were built for intricate and deeply complicated emotional issues. Still, they persist. Eventually, they could probably get to the level of "awkward conversations" but it'll take a lot of work.
The Bad Batch have what makes the Nulls superior to regular clone troopers, plus their unique enhancements (which in this version are less defects and more Nala Se picking an attribute for each of them and cranking it up to 11). They feel that it makes them better than the Nulls, something they're not shy about expressing.
Emerie is the same height as her estranged (I can't think of a word that applies to this specific situation but this one will do) brothers, because I stan a tall queen.
Nala Se is smug as hell whenever she sees Orun Wa. "CT-9904 just broke all records for accuracy, CT-9902 discovered a new element, CT-9903 crushed beskar like it was paper, and CT-9901 tracked a man through five systems and a solar storm. What are your clones doing, again?"
There is no understating the sheer "wtf" that goes through the Nulls' heads when they first see Omega. But, of course, this is Omega. Imagine the cutest image of her you've seen, fanart or canon. That's what the Nulls see when they meet her. Unsurprisingly, the Nulls, who got the Mandalorian gene to adopt anything that isn't nailed down, go from "wtf" to "so smol 🥰" in roughly a minute.
Kal Skirata is in the corner. His attempt to interact with the Bad Batch did not go well. He casually calls Hunter "son," as he does with various characters, and the resulting explosion puts a thermal detonator to shame. Since it's clear that his presence is not making things better, he's sort of just in the corner.
The rest of Clan Skirata, and associates, are staying out of this. Gilamar and Vau took one look and retreated to the bar because they know better than to get involved. Everyone else witnessed one of the less acrimonious encounters and collectively decided that they are not jumping into the emotional equivalent of a pit of rabid wolverines.
Echo is the go-between. He does not want to be the go-between. But he's the only neutral party in this thing aside from Omega, and the rest of the Batch don't trust the Nulls with her.
Spare a though for 99. He raised four of these guys, often with the aid of leashes. Truly, he is an unsung hero of the Clone Wars

Shhh…
I like Mereel a lot. He’s cheerful and personable and fun and very, very clever and very, very good at what he does. He’s my favorite null because he’s all those things and also has the capacity to be the scariest, eeriest bastard out of all of them.

repcomm but make it the 2003 genndy style
i think who's who is pretty obvious for the most part, but i also drew post-501st besany because i firmly believe she chops her hair off, gets a face scar in a bar fight that she started because someone insulted one of her brothers (probably fi), and gets armor (and an axe)

-- In Ordo's shadows --
Mereel learned so early that no matter what he does, no matter how hard he works and studies, he will never steps out of Ordo's shadow. And Ordo is not particularly talented in anything, or specialized, and not particularly ambitious.
What makes Ordo special that he is viciously protective and brave and those are the traits that he shares with Kal himself. It's during the war when he actually utilizes the psychological warfare the best that he learned from Kal. Because Ordo keeps learning directly from Kal on the field.
Now what has Mereel? Literally everything else. Even the other Nulls have more specializations than Ordo.
Kal can't do shit with science, and mathematics, and chemistry and all those stuff Mereel is especially talented at. Kal is uneducated. Every skill he learned is literally practical skill on the field, not helping that he is a bit technophobic. So it doesn't matter that Mereel can easely outshine Ordo in these fields (even by Null-standards), Kal can't appreciate the hard work because… he can't comprehend it even by regular natborn education standards. He tells them all the time he is proud of them, but also he is constantly tells them that practical skills much more important than the ones they learn from books/flash training... it tells them different message. It's contradicting. Kal maybe hurt Mereel without him realizing.
So Mereel while he never stopped being hard working, he became adrenaline junky. And with it, he is one of the few Nulls who directly disobeys Kal'buirs orders when the situation rewards fits (see the short story: ODDS). Mereel undertakes risky shit to shine, just to gets Kal's attention because he think he will never get it otherwise. He will risk his life, because he thinks he will never get love otherwise. He feel he needs to bring tribute and needs to be useful to get this love.
He knows that not even saving the whole clone-kind will be enough to get him from Ordo's shadows.
Mereel is completely aware that Ordo doesn't get attention because he is better at anything he does. It's because Ordo LACKS. It gives Mereel freedom but also such heartbreak and jealously it tears him apart. It's a contradiction.
Because Mereel won't cripple himself deliberatly to make himself a pitiable creature like Ordo.
Mereel probably hates himself for thinking like this about Ordo who protected them from everything as a child before Kal. He hates himself he wasn't the brave one back then, just the smart one. He hates that something was so fucked up in his brain that he decided, rather Ordo and his other brothers would perish first than him and that defined his relationship with Kal'buir later. He hates himself because he wanted to live so much... and he hates it that Ordo loved them more.

Clone Reader
*Y/n, sitting on the counter top, eating leftovers*
*Kal just entering the kitchen*
Kal: what the fuck? Son.. What.. . What are you doing here?
Y/n: you said if I need a place to crash I can come here.
Kal: I meant if you in trouble son.
Y/n: and what if I say I stole some really important informations, get caught, faked my dead, killed some separatists on the way and got some internal bleeding from the fight?
Kal:...
Y/n:...
Kal: eat that god damn pizza then go to Gilamar you trash rat. *inhales slowly* Fierce.. . I'm to old for this.
---------------------------------------------------
I'm so sorry for the lack of content here, I'm full of things to do, but the time I need is somewhere buried with the 332 company (too soon?). Anyways, I try to beat my finals, write my thesis and do not die. And of course I'm working on my embroidery and watching Grey's Anatomy plus trying to watch Loki season 2 finally but my heart is not ready yet. And I started to sewing too and I just overdid and overwhelmed myself I guess? I couldn't even finished the last Republic Commando book and already want to go to the other ones.
So... With all of everything I try to be a little more active (I'm not promising anything) and I hope can finally do some embroidery update too and post more and finally finish my new fan fiction.
But now please enjoy our beloved Clone Reader, who just got adopted and will make Mereel his bitch in time.
Love you guys! I will always come back, you can't rid of me!

talk about ordo if you want~ or like the nulls in general and their relationships with each other and other clones :3
Oh man where to start.
Ordo and Mereel are very near and dear to my heart, maybe I’ll start there. They’re close, right? And I see them as foiling each other in a lot of ways: Ordo is like a steady, straight line and Mereel is a squiggly line going erratically around him like a V-tach EKG. Mereel can hold it together better than the rest, and he’s always A-OK around Kal, but with Ordo he feels safe… not being okay.
I still don’t think Mereel allows himself to completely fall apart around anyone (INCLUDING HIMSELF). Ordo is the only exception. I think it’s still important to Mereel to seem “okay” even to the rest of the Nulls. (It’s totally unsaid that they all know none of them are truly “okay” but you get what I mean.) We had talked about when Mereel is really struggling he needs to let it all out somehow and like Ordo is the one who will both let him do that and also be there to reel him back in (see what I did there? Reel? ok done).
This is probably explained better narratively. Stay tuned??
Next up: Kom’rk. I’m taking his little-to-no screen time face and holding him in my hands. Here’s some headcanons:
- he spent a LOT of time alone out in the field hunting Grievous, and this was extremely difficult for him (and the Nulls and Kal)
- to cope, he as a very dark/dry sense of humor
- he spends a lot of time in cantinas and places where he can feel less alone, which is why he is included with Mereel when they talk about Corr’s “rich social education”
- just for fun I’m sprinkling in that he volunteered to do the big solo field mission so the other Nulls didn’t have to, love me some self sacrificing nonsense
