The 🇦🇺 AIHL's Melbourne Mustangs, advocating for trans rights in sports since 2017, and the same team in 2023, donning pride jerseys designed by former goalie (and twin sister of Ty) Tia Wishart who is part of the LGBTQ community.

Starting off with individual efforts, the 🇬🇧 EIHL has since extended their pride event to the duration of a full weekend following a conjoint initiative by the teams' fanbases in 2019.

Zach Sullivan, one of the few out queer athletes in the sport, felt supported enough by his team to come out as bisexual ahead of the Manchester Storm's pride game in 2020.

Danish goalie Jon Lee-Olsen came out as gay a year prior and was reportedly supported by his teammates.

Ford to tap Daniel Ricciardo connection in the future

Australian Formula One ace Daniel Ricciardo – who is taking a year away from racing as he returns to Red Bull in a support role after a dismal two years at the struggling McLaren outfit – could put his name to future Ford Performance models.

Ford recently signed on as Red Bull Racing's engine supplier from 2026, but the two entities have already begun flaunting their new partnership.

Ricciardo last week helped Ford announce the Mustang Mach-E electric SUV is coming to Australia, in the lead-up to last weekend's F1 Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Now Ford executives are looking at ways to further leverage the new relationship.

"We love Dan, I think he brings something to the brand," a spokesperson for Ford Australia told media at the Mustang Mach-E event.

"So just like today, we'll be using him as we think is appropriate."

Representatives for Ford Australia didn't say whether the company was working on a Ricciardo special edition vehicle, however Ricciardo is known to be a big fan of his Ford F-150 Raptor pick-up, which he keeps at his home in California.

"I actually bought the Raptor before I bought a house [there]," he told US website The Drive in February 2023.

"Since I was young I loved them. We couldn't get the Raptors in Australia and me and my friends just love utes and trucks and hoped one day we could get one."

While the Red Bull Racing reserve driver is best known for cutting laps in Formula One cars, Ford could exploit its partnership with the team to create a special edition vehicle with Daniel Ricciardo's name on it.

"It's great because it's a strategic, technical relationship and partnership between Ford and Red Bull," Ford Australia boss Andrew Birkic told media last week.

"He's just so personable – we were chatting in the car like he was one of my mates. Very personable, very approachable. And we're thrilled that he could spend some time with us."

i'm home from the game now and woah!!

we scored 2 minutes in, then it was back and forth scoring every 2-3 minutes till we tied 2-2, second period goes scoreless. third period we score 30 seconds in, we go up 2-3. we score again 5 minutes in putting the score 2-4 in our favor. i started heading for the door with a minute left on the clock to beat the rush to the train because i will get trampled. as i walk past the glass behind the goal, the puck goes in, then the buzzer. cue fight.

also, the goalie for the other team skated to the glass, and on his way back to the goal, a fan for my team picked up a puck he brought and waved the at the goalie screaming "this is what it looks like" at him. the goalie turned around to watch. then look at me (next to the fan) and rolled his eyes and i turn around and show him my Fleury hoodie (name and number on the back). goalie was not impressed. everyone else was (turns out they played the whole thing on the big screen).

Oh its back to hockey.

Anyone that knows me know I like my sports. I've always been very fascinated by it and watch it a lot. In the same respect though, I, like many people will always go through that whole 'phase moment. Where one minute you are so obsessed with something for ages and ages. Then, for no real specific reason you just stop.

You can'r always pinpoint why you stop but you just do. It is not fault of yours or anything else it just happens.

And then after a very long absence, you just find yourself loving it all over again. Weird? Nah just a phase if you like.

So this brings me to talk about going back into the hockey thing again. I wouldn't say that it ever left. It was more a case that certain things in life made me forget about it.

The NHL (aka National Hockey League), I love and have for a very long time. But living here in Australia, it is not that easy to get all the coverage for it, unless your paying for it. Let alone having and knowing people that enjoy it the same as me. Sure, I have run into man fans as well but i'm not the most social person hence it makes it a bit of a challenge to just talk to others.

Those probably had something to do with me falling off it for a while. However, its not like I wasn't keeping an eye on my teams and fave players. Or that I wasn't aware of the news going on.

I can't really tell you when it happened exactly; but it feels like during my time doing all the volunteer stuff at the Melbourne Mustangs played a part.

Oh, it was fun the experience of it, and being able to watch hockey totally worth it. But sometimes there are other factors that can lead to a change in mind and that did unfortunately.

But, it is fair to say I"M BACK LOVING IT
