curious why you prefer Aus to Europe when a lot of the policies you like in Aus (better social safety net) exist in Europe too. is it the weather? for me I prefer Europe since it's less car-centric, has great train coverage, and there's a ton of cultures rather than being stuck on one giant mostly empty island that's all the same country 🙈
I touched on this in the original ask I think you're responding to, but aside from those points, it's not only about social safety net! it's the combo of social safety net, people's attitude & demeanor, my ability to effectively communicate with those around me (even if I learn a new language via living someplace it'll never be my native language, just as Europeans don't typically natively speak English, so there's a lot of small things that can wind up being quite isolating when stacked up over the day-to-day. When I visited my bf's family in Portugal in the fall, not 10000% easily having everything I say be understood and having to alter my speech patterns for effective communication made me REALLY depressed and that was just for 2 weeks)
I think it's a bit dismissive to reach out to me and call a place that you know I love "a mostly empty island that's mostly the same country", even if you're being a lil silly. First off I'd argue that Australia's geography is FAR more diverse than Europe's. Europe is predominantly mountains, farms and rolling hills, and mediterranian / coastal. I'd say in the US it's akin to (in order) Montana, Ohio, and Southern California. I can't really name much more, though two of those things are beautiful. Australia has farmland, desert, tropics, swamplands, beaches, mountains, etc. Australia has regions that are akin to (in order) central California, rural Texas / Arizona, central Florida, Louisiana, Southern California, AND Virginia. Not to mention a stunning, rich biodiversity. ultimately why, at this moment, I am choosing America over there is that I appreciate America having more nuances culturally than what Australia has within that terrain. But there is more to life and more that I appreciate about the world than cities having different food and cultures, and while Europe brings those things to the table (in languages I don't understand, which like I said makes living and not visiting extremely tough), there is FAR more that it doesn't. And also, for the record - if you've ever driven straight across Europe multiple times like I have, I don't think you'd be able to call it much different than "a peninsula with tons of nothing in the middle". While one 'nothing' is obviously bigger than the other, Australia's middle is a vast and beautiful red desert. A lot of Europe's middle / middle of nowhere is just Ohio. I prefer the desert.
#also btw Australian cities aren't car centric at all once you're there#MOST people I knew in Melbourne proper did not have cars#it's just car centric to travel and get to remote areas and explore those#which#mind you#is literally also the case for Europe#in Europe you'd just take a train and in Australia you'd fly but tbh the prices & ease are comparable depending on distance.#like it'd cost $80 USD to fly from Sydney to Melbourne#and I'd guess it'd also cost about $80 USD to train from say Paris to Milan#both are 10 hour drives apart by car#it doesn't sound like you've actually been to Australia based on this ask

An update for my friends: Due to deteriorating health I will not be posting regularly in the future. The good news is I will keep improving the quality of the watches post and include more in-depth background info when I do post infrequently. Quality over Quantity. I just finished receiving radiotherapy treatment on my other, smaller, brain tumour in the cerebellum a few days ago. It will take weeks before I find out the efficacy. In the mean time, I wish you a Merry Christmas (USA & Europe) and a wonderful and relaxing Boxing Day (Australia & Asia). Pictured is by far one of the rarest Rolex I own: Explorer 14270 Mark 1 BLACKOUT with Silver Text (True Mark 1) Dial and the unique, CORRECT, Second Hand. I believe there are only a handful in world. Something like this, especially a full set, are mostly already in serious collectors’ hands and rarely come on to the market. #rolex #merrychristmas #boxingday #14270 #explorer #daytona #watchcommunity #watchgeek #watchcollector #melbourne #rolexwatch #rolexwatches #rolexworld #australia #grailwatch #blackoutexplorer #mark1dial #watchmarket #rarerolexdial #watchenthusiastsmelbourne #watchenthusiast #horology #watchfam #watchcollecting #watchcollection #explorerblackout #blackoutexplorer #andychanrolex #timedealerhotmail @mondanibooks @mondaniweb @mondanidoc @hodinkee @phillipswatches @rolex @rolexcollectorsaustralia @rolexcollectorsaus @rolexcollectoraustralia @rolexcollectors @andychanrolex @timedealerhotmail @wristporn @wristwatchporn @bobswatches @rolexcollectorsoz @patekphilippe @audemarspiguet @richardmille @timeinmotionparis @rolexknowledge @rolexinformation @rolexpassionreport @rolexpassionmarket @watchbox @chronext @watchfinderofficial @watchpro @christieswatches @sothebys (at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmmsHvPBk88/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

My First Experience as a Cambodian in Melbourne City!
by: Somaly
Namaste wonderful souls and dear readers,
This year, my cousin (monk) stayed and practiced his religion at Thomastown, Victoria. We decided to visit my cousin on a long weekend. My husband loves to stay in Melbourne CBD so we flew to Melbourne on Friday and returned to Brisbane on Monday. It was my first time to explore the city.
My cousin stayed Eysanmeanchey Temple for three months then he returned to Cambodia.
When my husband and I arrived at the Grand Hotel, the hotel manager was very helpful, friendly, and warm in welcoming us. We felt very comfortable and safe. We love the hotel building's historic appearance and central location. The manager recommended Cafe and Eatery Grain Store. We went to the cafe for two breakfasts. Their foods was beautiful, well decorated, and super delicious. We would recommend the cafe.
Our plans explored city, enjoyed foods, visited my cousin, went for a massage, and took a short nap. Our traveling practice might be different from major tourists and travellers. We just know that we can visit the city again in future so there is no rush to see all the popular destinations. We are spontaneous explorers and worked with what our body needs. If we felt tired, we stopped and took short nap. We love to support local restaurants, pubs, taxi, and business. We love to explore Melbourne cuisines.
For my first experience and travelled in the Melbourne I was amazed with all the high rise buildings, historic buildings, people, lifestyle, culture, foods, public transportations, some small block streets where I could find the restaurants, food courts, street arts, pubs, and river walk. I felt like Melbourne City is bigger, busier, and more modern and in advanced than Brisbane. however I still love to live in the Brisbane suburbs.
My husband and I had a relaxed time and an amazing experiences in our trip. We cannot wait to explore the beautiful cities and places in the world. We are saving and planning our journey. We have some countries that we would love to experiences and learn from the people lifestyle, culture, language, historic buildings, interesting destinations, and foods.
Our travel expectations are simple and easy going. We understand that we might have bad or good experiences in our trips. We wish that we could have the wonderful time and experiences, meet the beautiful people along the way, have safe trips, gain the knowledge and insights, and be able to share and recommend some good hotels, good restaurants, delicious foods, and interesting destinations.
🌟 Thank you for your previous times to reading and support our writing.
🌟Thank you for being part of our community.
🌟 Thank you for your likes, shares, comments, and follows.
🌟Send a lot of love, hugs, peace, miracles, and blessings to you and your family.
