Built at Long Beach, California, for the USAAF as a C-47A-65-DL, it was given the s/n 41-10460 and ferried to Brisbane to join the 5th Air Force by 1943.

It was briefly loaned to 38 SQDRN RAAF from April-October 1944. But was returned to the USAAF.

After the war, it was sold to Australian National Airways (ANA) and converted to DC-3 standard at Melbourne's Essendon Airport. This conversion included replacing the P&W Twin Wasp engines with Wright Cyclone engines.

After bouncing between Papua New Guinea and Australia, it was converted to Viewmaster standard by Butler Air Transport and sold to Ansett-ANA by 1958.

It was then promptly sold and re-re-engined to South Pacific Airlines of New Zealand (SPANZ). As Airlines of New Zealand, it operated as a subsidiary of Ansett-ANA, much to the chagrin of Air New Zealand and New Zealand National Airways Corporation. The aircraft was named RMA George Bolt.

SPANZ became famous for their more permissive attitude and their ability to operate in the heavily state owned airline industry in Aotearoa. To the point where the Auckland Star hilariously referred to SPANZ as capitalist and NZNAC as communist because you could smoke on SPANZ DC-3s. Furthermore, the NZNAC Skyliner DC-3s were done in order to compete with SPANZ.

After being sold to NZNAC for NZ£14,100 it went back to Australia and was briefly operated by Qantas Empire Airways and Fiji Airways* before being sold back to NZNAC in 1969.

It briefly operated for Mt. Cook Airlines and was slated for operations with South Seas Airways, but this fell through.

And so it was instead sold to Fieldair Ltd (t/as Airland) and renamed Whio. It ended its working life as an Ag-Dak in 1985, having flown 56,232 hours. It was towed to Whanganui with the intentions of being made airworthy by Wanganui Airwork. This was deemed impractical, and so she was instead taken up to Taupō for refurbishment to Viewmaster standard in 1989.

Finally, in 1990, she was moved from the Taupo Car Sales / Aeroplane Car Co yard to McDonald's, where she remains.

so my NEA is unbelievably dry and I was so done with reading my own yapfest about why I used acrylic in my project. I open my phone and ange, paul and dino are playing dti, and ange is BEGGING me to join. I'm so deeply bored that despite not being too fond of roblox I join because I'm bored af. oscar (not piastri) is like bro don't you have an nea to check and I'm like shushhh. dino and paul abuse duos as usual and I force arvid and oscar to join so the whole gang is on. I'm locked in, and the theme is 'racing driver' so I pull out a cunty rosberg and win (subtle foreshadowing???). my mum calls me downstairs all serious and my dad has a solicitor on the phone so I'm QUAKING. she's like nadia you've been offered the chance to drive in formula 1. and I'm like what. can I go upstairs??? so I rejoin vc and I'm like CHAT WTF I COULD DRIVE IN F1 (because lando has broken both arms and pato couldn't race, plus melbourne in f2 had been great for me and a championship head start in my rookie season whereas mclaren couldn't afford to race suzuka a driver down). after an hour of discussion I have been convinced and I'm like ykw let's do this. I then spend ages convincing ange and oscar's parents to let them go (luckily ange's dad would be in japan the same time as the gp for work so lucky us), arvid and paul go anyways because of their jobs and dino goes because ferrari. mclaren cba to arrange transport so after an experience at the airport (we almost miss the flight and we have to wait 4 hours for our luggage) and a taxi later, we make it to the circuit (yippee) and bear in mind it's thursday by this point, after all the health checks mclaren finally announces that I'll be racing in place of lando that weekend, and I do it in my f2 race suit because mclaren didn't have time to prepare a mclaren suit for me. it was meant to be only one race but then I kinda cooked (won the race with a 11 second gap to p2) so they kept me on until lando was fit to race again. also nico rosberg decided he'd become my manager after that and I started tweaking because like I IDOLISED NICO??? anyways there were some shenanigans along the way but let's leave it there

what happened on your holiday with the guy

Okay this might be a long post so sorry to anyone not interested in the intimate details of my life lol.

There were a few things he did that I didn’t like personally while we were away but the main thing was we were on different flights back to Melbourne and were supposed to meet up & go to a hotel together because it was after midnight when we got back in. Hhe was staying in Melbourne for a few days & I live 2 hours out of the city.

He got in first & discovered that the hotel had cancelled the booking. I had a half hour flight delay so I still had to go through bag pickup & customs after he’d got in. In that time he found a friend that would let him stay over in Melbourne & asked me what I was going to do cos his friend only had a couch. I said idk I literally just found out & it was too late for transport so I could only sleep at the airport until morning. He said ok I can wait for you to get to arrivals but the situation will be the same so I said “ok. Just go.”

Just upset me that a) didn’t wait to say goodbye or make sure I knew what I was doing before leaving the airport and b) didn’t even check in to see I had got home ok until the following evening

Largest global IT outage in history did not affect Russia

A global technology outage caused by a software update from US cybersecurity company Crowdstrike caused chaos around the world on Friday, with flights suspended and healthcare, banking and ground transport systems facing major disruptions.

George Kurtz, president and CEO of Crowdstrike, said Friday morning that the company is “actively working with customers affected by a flaw discovered in one content update for Windows hosts” – a glitch that affected Microsoft users around the world. He also added:

“This is not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue has been identified, isolated, and a fix has been deployed. We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website. We further recommend organisations ensure they’re communicating with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels. Our team is fully mobilised to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers.”

The Financial Times explained that Crowdstrike is “one of the world’s largest providers of “endpoint” security software, used by companies to monitor for security problems across a huge range of devices, from desktop PCs to checkout payment terminals.”

Troy Hunt, a security consultant, wrote on social media that “this will be the largest IT outage in history.” He also added:

“This is basically what we were all worried about with Y2K, except it’s actually happened this time.”

The impacts of the outage cascaded rapidly. Wired noted that “in the early hours of Friday, companies in Australia running Microsoft’s Windows operating system started reporting devices showing Blue Screens of Death (BSODs).” It continued:

“Shortly after, reports of disruptions started flooding in from around the world, including from the UK, India, Germany, the Netherlands, and the US: TV station Sky News went offline, and US airlines United, Delta, and American Airlines issued a “global ground stop” on all flights.”

The UK has been hit by a glitch

As The New York Times observed, the National Health Service in the United Kingdom “was crippled throughout the morning on Friday, as a number of hospitals and doctors offices lost access to their computer systems.”

Whitehall crisis officials were coordinating the response through the Cobra committee that deals with matters of national emergency or major disruption. Ministers were in touch with their sectors to tackle the fallout from the IT failure, and the transport secretary, Louise Haigh, said she was working “at pace with industry” after trains and flights were affected, The Guardian reported.

In the US, flights were grounded owing to communications problems that appear to be linked to the outage. American Airlines, Delta and United Airlines were among the carriers affected. Berlin airport temporarily halted all flights on Friday, while in Australia, Melbourne airport advised customers it was “experiencing a global technology issue which is impacting check-in procedures for some airlines.”

Global flight cancellations

There had been more than 1,000 flight cancellations worldwide so far due to the IT failure, according to the aviation analysis firm Cirium.

Long lines formed at airports in Asia as airlines lost access to check-in and booking services at a time when many travelers are heading away on summer vacations. News outlets in Australia — where telecommunications were severely affected — were pushed off air for hours. Hospitals and doctor’s offices had problems with their appointment systems, while banks in South Africa and New Zealand reported outages to their payment system or websites and apps.

At Hong Kong’s airport, Yvonne Lee, 24, said she only found out her flight to Phuket in Thailand was postponed to Saturday when she arrived at the airport, saying the way it was handled would “affect the image of Hong Kong’s airport very much.” Her already short five-day trip would now have to be further shortened, she said.

In India, Hong Kong and Thailand, many airlines were forced to manually check in passengers. An airline in Kenya was also reporting disruption.

Some athletes and spectators descending on Paris ahead of the Olympics were delayed as was the arrival of their uniforms and accreditations, but Games organisers said disruptions were limited and didn’t affect ticketing or the torch relay.

In Germany, Berlin-Brandenburg Airport halted flights for several hours due to difficulties in checking in passengers, while landings at Zurich airport were suspended and flights in Hungary, Italy and Turkey disrupted.

The Dutch carrier KLM said it had been “forced to suspend most” of its operations.

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport warned that the outage was having a “major impact on flights” to and from the busy European hub. The chaotic morning coincided with one of the busiest days of the year for Schiphol.

Israel said its hospitals and post office operations were disrupted.

In South Africa, at least one major bank said it was experiencing nationwide service disruptions as customers reported they were unable to make payments using their bank cards in stores. The New Zealand banks ASB and Kiwibank said their services were down as well.

Shipping was disrupted too: A major container hub in the Baltic port of Gdansk, Poland, the Baltic Hub, said it was battling problems resulting from the global system outage.

Russia was unaffected by the outage

Meanwhile, Russia was less affected by this outage, mainly due to sanctions, import substitution strategy and technological sovereignty.

The global IT failure of devices running the Windows 10 operating system did not affect the operation of Russian airports and airlines, with flights running as scheduled. There are no problems with the information systems of Russian Railways.

“Rosatom” reported that the systems of the concern “Rosenergoatom” work on “import-independent software,” so there are no problems in operation. The disruption in Microsoft’s work will not affect the operation of Russia’s energy system in any way, the agency said.

(I can’t even remember what used to be there). and then there’s whatever they’re digging for at rozelle?? the city tends to move on all the same it is so sooo trippy and if I’d spent the last 12 years buzzing around the world and barely registering my surroundings and didn’t happen to be from the one suburb that’s remained the same as it was in 2010 as well as have a brain filled with urban design lore I would actually find it rather disconcerting

sydney waits for no one. BUT SERIOUSLY WHAT WAS AT BARANGAROO BEFORE?? i literally do not have a clue. but western sydney airport is good news i hope. and the metro!! and the light rail!! i love sydney public transport (despite its tendency to fail)
