VISIONS 2 || EP:1 || SITH
A former Sith apprentice finds their peaceful life threatened.
ARTSTYLE: 10/10 STORYLINE: 9/10 CHARACTERS: 8/10 ANIMATION: 10/10 COMBAT: 10/10 MUSIC: 8/10 MAGIC: 10/10
OVERALL: 9.4/10
IN A WORD: Art
SPOILER-FREE REVIEW: Beautiful animation, premise, protagonist and art converge to create an incredible story with a visceral and beautiful take on balance within oneself and the force. I had chills the entire time. The style feels reminiscent of Spiderverse, with a hint of Cyberpunk 2077 in terms of tech design, but it is not without itâs own original charm that shines through every frame. The characters forge their own unique paths in the canon and leave you asking for another episode with the same gravitas, high-octane combat, contrast and color.

shallow citrus review
âââââ- /á ïœĄêïœĄá\ âââââ
|    ă spoiler free ă     |
âââââ(..)(..) â«â«ââââ-â
âdisclaimer: this is just for the anime and not the manga as I have not read it yet!
âbackground: Citrus was the first yuri anime I watched lol so I am still not familiar with all of the common tropes... (besides the light hair x dark hair and bubbly x toxic person matchups obviously). I had to be pleaded with to watch this because I am awful at finishing shows.
âoverall rating: 6/10 using MAL scale. It was entertaining, the art was good, and it had some plot backing up the circumstances. Definitely not a masterpiece in any way which was a shame because my friend really hyped this up for me.... I LOVE and ADORE Yuzu! She was such a lovable protagonist and carried this show 100% which is why my rating is pretty high.
âworth watching?
This would be a passing yes depending on your circumstances, and the fact I determine this off of entertainment and not quality for this show specifically. With friends? Absolutely, because it would get a lot of laughs and secondhand embarrassment. By yourself? No for THAT kind of "me time" but yes for casual fun. I say to watch it for Yuzu.
âcharacter visual design
In general, I liked the overall style of how characters were drawn! It gave a feminine, delicate, high school girly prettiness that matched the theme. I am also talking about the manga too, which I didn't read, but I did skim some in the bookstore.
Yuzu: The blonde, bubbly, and slightly rebellious side of this match, Yuzu's personal kogal-esque fashion-sense is what made her unique. I want to point out that I really appreciated how Yuzu stuck out because of her personal style by using makeup, jewelry, and hair-styles (that actually CHANGED occasionally bravo!) which are against school dress code. This really added to her charm and the fact she goes against what's accepted.
Mei: Playing off the shy, studious, and reserved student council president traits, Mei's design fit that to the bill. That would of course be giving her dark hair and eyes to give a sense of coldness and conservatism. Like Yuzu, Mei also was a main character that did not force the usual making it obvious that she was important to the show. I don't have a lot to say about Mei, because she is well... normal... which is the point! So good job with that ( àŒ âž àŒ )
âââââ- /á ïœĄêïœĄá\ âââââ
|ă    not spoiler free     |
âââââ(..)(..) â«â«ââââ-â
âsome tropes I saw with comments:
schoolgirls: resulting to spicy time in their uniforms LOL which is pretty creepy ( ËâąÌ„ _âąÌ„ Ë ), but I watched this in HS so I'm valid
written for guys...: meaning quality and realism of plot automatically goes downhill for the nut... I feel like it would be super hard to tug one to citrus unless you're really desperate. if you did please never talk to me and go to therapy. I would also assume you can be found on a local sexual offender list.
not actually lesbian with one exception: I'm mainly pointing fingers at Yuzu here because Mei did kiss that middle school gremlin and was in a very short relationship with Sara. But I feel kind of bad for this because Yuzu did appear to be confused with her sexuality. I could be completely wrong about this, but this is my assumption from observations.
opposites attract: its a pet peeve of mine that this is a thing because it mostly results in failed relationships, yet TV-wise it's pretty entertaining. when can we have a love story where the characters have something in common besides sexual tension and forbidden love???
step sisters!: better than biological siblings to say the least... I appreciate some slightly more ethical taboo. Neither of them got stuck in the washing machine (which is why I have this under the spoiler section)
contrasting colors: when the couple has the opposite hair color which somehow determines their personalities. like zodiac signs but worse.
the almost do it but dont @ the last second: this trope is super common everywhere and is just a normal addition to creating suspense. I have a love-hate thing for this, as Mei or Yuzu always stopped at the last second before committing to spicy time.
âthe dumpster fires encountered:
Matsuri: The world's strangest and incorrect attempt for an antagonist ever. Take a toxic, desperate, manipulative and equally sexually frustrated discord kitten e-girl who is in JUNIOR HIGH and have her come out of nowhere near the end of the show. I really disliked how Matsuri followed the main-character route with bright pink hair that contrasted against literally every other character. Matsuri was the turning point for me where I really saw citrus go downhill in my heart, and was ultimately my least favorite thing about the show. Matsuri definitely contributed to citrus's property of being written for guys and ruined the show for me.
Mei: I have no idea how someone as genuinely good as Yuzu managed to convince herself she is in love with a person as awful as Mei. Frankly, Mei and Matsuri would have been better together as they both love to assault and manipulate others. My friend actually really liked Mei because she was 'dominant' (I'm assuming) but WTF, she was so frustrating to have as a love interest. I'm all for the perfect girl with a devious side archetype, but Mei's problematic tendencies outweighed that. Even though Yuzu treated her with kindness and support through all of that madness of Mei going back and forth of wanting to be more than sisters, Mei still treated her terribly. If you like Mei you need to enroll in relationship counseling, uninstall discord and use an internet safety filter to remember how good relationships work.
Sara and Nina: I really don't know why these two existed besides to create a really awkward feeling when watching Sara prepare to confess her sudden love for Mei. This was really odd and uncomfortable to watch in comparison to Yuzu and Mei's relationship taking much more time and effort to build up. Also the fact that Mei agreed to date Sara after leading on Yuzu for so long, I concluded that Sara demonstrated for me of how questionable and stable Mei was as a person. I also caught the feeling that Sara and Nina had their own strange slight twincest thing going on as Nina was straight up invading Yuzu's personal life for Sara's personal gain. Going along what I said about Matsuri sticking out in a crowd, these two also did and did not match the other characters in the series at all...
âgood things!
Yuzu: Obviously my favorite character was Yuzu... because of how she is a good person! Even when Sara was briefly dating Mei, she never interfered or professed her own feelings to hopefully change Mei's mind about Sara! Yuzu has a lot of charm and is a really well-made character! I actually enjoyed watching her internal conflict when Mei made her questionable advances and literally gaslighted her by acting like nothing happened. During the Christmas episode I was really impressed when she denied Mei, even though it was kind of frustrating that she didn't give in to her own desires.
Harumin: The friendship between Harumin and Yuzu mirrored what a childish high schooler pairing would actually be like irl! These two had a lot in common due to their rebellious tendencies, and they were fun to watch together rather than the drab queen of angst and darkness Mei. Why couldn't there be an innocent rom-com between Yuzu and Harumin instead?
âconclusion
Writing about all the bad things completely exhausted me so I will stop here. Even with all of my gripes I still stand by my suggestion to watch citrus! It wasn't that bad and is kind of educational on what not to do in a relationship.... I'm no yuri expert, yet, but as a noob with low yuri quality standards it was your typical yet questionable romance anime.

Sephora Launches North American Media Review
Adage recently reported that Sephora has launched a North America Media review. According to the advertising online magazine, they were able to obtain an invite to pitch. Adage asked The LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton beauty retailer to comment on the media review reports, but they have not responded.
About the Sephora North American Media Review
Adage stated that the invite was sent Nov. 25 and it also stated that the review will begin immediately. The Sephora North American media review will last for about four months. The document said that the U.S. portion of the review will cover media strategy, planning and buying for all media channels excluding addressable TV. In Canada, the invite said that the review spans strategy, planning and buying for all media channels supporting only its e-commerce business, sephora.ca. The invite included a non-disclosure agreement that prevents agencies from discussing the review with the media. Should the agency accept, the invite read, it would receive an RFI. Hereâs what the invite read: "We are looking for a strategic agency partner that maximizes media holding group talents, thought leadership, tools, technology and media buying potential while continuing to drive Sephora's leadership in prestige beauty retail,"
More about the ReviewÂ
According to the invite, Global management consultancy ID Comms is managing the review. ID Comms has also declined to comment. People close to the review said Omnicom, Horizon and incumbent Dentsu Aegis Network are competing, and that the review is currently in the RFI stage. Those agencies declined to comment. A decision is expected to be made in March, according to the people close to the process. Sources close to the review said that the account is worth approximately $250 million. The review does not affect other LVMH brands including Dom Pérignon, Benefit Cosmetics, Marc Jacobs and Céline. It comes slightly more than a year after the French luxury goods conglomerate chose Dentsu to handle all of its North American buying and planning across all brands including Sephora. That decision followed a review that was also handled by ID Comms and concluded in August of 2018. At that time, Dentsu took the business away from Havas Media. Havas Media previously worked with LVMH for nearly a decade. Source: Adage Read the full article

Pan (2015)
Directed by Joe Wright. Family/fantasy movie.
Okay, so this is the type of movie that I feel I will come to disagree with my own opinion in a few years. Iâll explain why. I think I speak for all of us when I say that nowadays itâs quite hard to watch a movie without having ANY preconceived ideas of it. Either weâve watched the trailer (one of those here-is-the-whole-plot-of-the-movie-except-for-maybe-the-last-two-minutes kind of trailers), or perhaps one of our friends has watched it and talked about it heatedly, or  maybe weâve gotten 5,839,286 GIFs of the movie on our feed and already know most of the whole plot.Â
My point is that, by the point when we sit down to watch a movie, many times, we have already formed an opinion about it. Sometimes, the movie has been so hyped up by our friends that when we watch it, our expectations are not met and we end up not like the movie, period. Or, on the contrary, the media has been so harsh with the movie, that when itâs anything more than a catastrophe, you actually end up enjoying it.Â
When I walked into Pan, I did NOT have a good image of the movie. I had read somewhere (and this is a bit of information that I have NOT managed to confirm since then), that although the story of Peter Pan has become public domain, people who use the story still pay the copyrights to the owner. Why, you ask? Because the actual âownerâ of the story, writer J.M. Barrie transferred the copyright to the Great Ormond Street Hospital , which is a childrenâs hospital in London. In fact, in the strongly-worded article I had read at the time, the articleâs writer had specified how important that source of income was for the hospital, and how it helped a lot of children (a good writer always appeals to the heart of its readers, right?). Now, it was said (and this is the part I have failed to confirm, please let me know if you find an article about it) that this iteration of Peter Pan chose NOT to pay the copyrights. I mean, no one is actually obliged to do it⊠but it does seem like the right thing to do, particularly when you think of todayâs movie starsâ salaries (which can go up to millions of dollars), donating part of the revenue of your million-dollar movie to a hospital of children, doesnât seem like such a hard thing to do.
In other words, this movie was already not looking good to me as a person (I am the type of person who canât fully separate the artist from the art, and although I wonât go on about it here, I will say that I preferred not to buy this movie, and only watched it when it came to Netflix). In addition to that whole internal debate about watching the movie or not, I also found a lot of reviews about this movie when I was trying to confirm the information in the paragraph above. And they were all extremely negative, with scores going from 0 stars out of 5, to 23%, to âYOU SHOULD JUST NOT WATCH THISâ kind of reviews.Â
So, when I sat down to watch this movie and I first met the main character, I was astounded to realize that I quite liked him. Played by Levi Miller, he was easily one of the best parts of the movie. But even more surprisingly, I was FLOORED when I noticed I was actually enjoying myself! I almost felt ashamed by that point. âHow can you like a movie that might be STEALING money from sick CHILDREN????â my heart would scream. But then my eyes and my ears and my love for art started to speak louder and I realized that some aspects of this movie were truly worth talking about.
Iâll start by the easy one: the soundtrack by John Powell. If the first thought in your head after reading those words is, âWho the hell is John Powell?â, donât worry, thatâs normal. I do have a very soft spot for soundtracks and one of my favourite of all times is from How to Train Your Dragon (2010) by (you guessed it!) John Powell. The way he layers different instruments together is breathtaking and clearly resembles the rush of feelings you might get when youâre flying â a theme that is very relevant to both movies might I add. I listened to this soundtrack after having watched the movie, and even individually, these songs are wonderfully crafted. The first few chords of the âOpening Overtureâ pulled at my heartstrings, and âKidnapped/Galleon Dog Fightâ had me excited for everything this movie promised. Even the song, âSmells like Teen Spiritâ (or how I call it, âHello, Hello, How Lowâ) is so wonderfully dark, I had chills at the power of hundreds of voices singing it together; and then Hugh Jackmanâs evil voice joins in and the all is deliciously creepy. Unfortunately, it was intercut with unnecessary jokes and the movieâs tone doesnât live up to the song. Nevertheless, if anything positive should be coming out of the movie, the soundtrack is definitely the one.
Now, if youâll allow me a second positive element to take out of this movie, Iâd say that the circus elements were visually stunning. I wouldnât go as far as saying that all of the art directing was brilliant, because the indigenous section of the movie was very weak on that front. (In almost all fronts really, but Iâll get to that later.) However, the circus-themed aspects of the movie were pretty enticing -- and had this style been consistent throughout the movie, it could have been one of my favourite art directing in a while. However, it wasnât. We only had a few glimpses of it, such as when we first see the pirates of Neverland: in an otherwise dark room, one yellow spotlight lit up, a pirate dropped from the ceiling, with an elastic clearly wrapped around his waist, snatched something up, and slipped back up out of view. The snappy timing of the situation, the comically elaborate costumes and the whole theatricality of the sequence made it all very surreal and visually intriguing. Again, I wish this circus theme had stayed throughout the movie, because the rest of it simply did not live up to it.
This leads me to the next point which is where I will shift into negative gear. Now, from the beginning of this review, you probably thought I was going to say this movie was genius, but fear not; those reviews online had good reason to criticize this movie. And my reason for joining them is because the aspects that this movie gets wrong, it gets really wrong.Â
The first aspect that bothered me was the inconsistency in tone. The beginning of this movie is quite delightful in my opinion -- a sort of âHome Aloneâ vibe, as my friend called it. Adults are quite simply caricatures of adults, and the children are the real heroes of the story. That in itself was a tiny movie that begins with (**tiny spoiler**) Peter at the orphanage and ends with him and Nibs finding something they were not looking for (**end of spoiler**). Then, the second movie begins: an action movie where Peter is forced into a dark, adult world where death, slavery and capitalism are ever present; this, by far is the strongest part of the movie in my opinion. The conversation between Peter and Blackbeard in the Captainâs Cabin is one of the most chilling sequences I have ever seen. Their age difference is so obvious displayed, thanks to the difference in the complexity of their dialogue and interests. I was very positively impressed by the sceneâs depth, and particularly by Hugh Jackmanâs acting.Â
From then on, the movie goes downhill. It becomes your usual very-bad-adaptation of a story, with corny costumes, weird character development and quite frankly, racism left to right. Iâm not one to hammer on socially inadequate problems, because Iâm afraid of joining in todayâs abuse of the term âpolitically correctâ.  However, this movie really did some very poor decisions on that front. I mean, the most violent character is the only prominent dark-skinned character; the only traitor is the Indian-looking character; the only character that can barely speak English is Asian; and the only strong indigenous character is played by a white actress. I mean. Itâs hard to defend casting decisions like that.
Apart from that, although the special effects were pretty good, the integration between them and the characters was a bit⊠jarring. By that, I mean that sometimes we would see an extreme long shot (shot from very far) of a CGI battle taking place, then suddenly cut to a close-up of the characterâs reaction to the battle... and not for one second did I believe that those two shots were taking place at the same at the same time and space. My movie-geek mind could just see the actors standing in front of a green screen and some director yelling at them âPRETEND TO REACT TO THIS!! REMEMBER THIS IS ALL VEEEERY SCARY!!â The soundtrack and quality of the actors themselves almost fixed this feeling, but I couldnât quite shake it off. This CG oddness got considerably more relevant whenever flying characters were involved; it was very difficult for me to believe that they were part of the same world as the non-flying characters, which took me away from the story in numerous occasions.
Finally, one of my biggest problems was the character of Hook. I wonât say much about him in respect for those who want to watch the movie spoiler free, but letâs just say that as an origin story, it felt quite thrown together and poorly developed. His motivations were nebulous to say to least and itâs difficult to see how he and the Captain Hook we know turn out to be the same person. And if they truly do, then I would love to see that happening, because what I saw so far did not sell me on that story point.Â
Not only that, but it felt like a wasted opportunity to make something incredible. Imagine if (** Spoilers ahead till the end of this paragraph**) after Peter gets taken to Neverland, Peterâs best friend, Nibs actually grows up and becomes bitter. And suppose, that when Peter does come back for him, Nibs has become a self-reliant old man, whose life was so sad and lonely, that his only drive to live was to hate that âblasted Peter Panâ who left him rotting in that orphanage. Now suppose that at some point in the movie, you find out that Nibsâ last name is actually Hook. I mean, wouldnât you have lost your mind a tiny little bit? Wouldnât it have been superb if Peter turned out to be the originator of his own nemesis? Wouldnât it be tragic if, child-minded Peter doesnât see the bitterness in Nibs-turned-Hook, and continues to play hero-versus-villain with his best friend for the rest of his days? Meanwhile, Nibs-Hook is actually trying to get to Peter, but canât quite bring himself to kill him because they were best friends once? (**End of Spoiler**) Now that would have been true to the creepy, deep tone that the movie had established in the beginning, and could have actually done justice to the great character of Captain Hook.
In fact, as ridiculous as this might sound, I believe that the lack of time was part of this movieâs problem. âWait, youâre saying you wanted more of this??â I hear you rage. Well, sort of, yes. I think this movie had a lot of rich material they could have explored, particularly in the dark aspects, like the slavery and war. The contrast between innocent children and truly infamous world is a hard sell, but a very possible one, if Stranger Things (2016) has taught me anything.Â
The indigenous people also felt thrown into the story for me, and even seemed unnecessary the way they were presented. Their fighting style didnât seem particularly unique (or effective), their costumes were not particularly rich, and their intentions seemed to come from a glorified past we didnât get to see. I feel like they had to be there because they were in the original story, but their necessity in this movie was questionable.Â
Now, if the movie had had more time, say, (**Spoilers ahead**) if the first movie had focused simply on Blackbeardâs exploitation of pixum and Peterâs escape from the compound, then the second one could have been about Peter discovering Neverland and its inhabitants (the tribe, the fairies, the mermaids), and the third movie could be the climax where Peter rises up against Blackbeard and the Pirates (**end of spoilers**).Â
Again, I know this would all never happen, because producers donât like investing in something theyâre not sure will sell. They would hardly invest in three Peter Pan origin movies, particularly if the first one did as badly as Pan did. But as usual, I am speaking from a story standpoint. And although I understand that people claim that the world has simply âmoved onâ from the notion of Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up, I think that if we had had the time to explore a new, original Neverland, we could have been sold into loving Peter again. This movie could have reawaken the joys of being a child into many viewersâ hearts. But instead, it settled for being a rushed movie, with clashing themes, and brilliant aspects just begging to be explored. Now, itâs true that, as I said in the beginning, my expectations for this movie might have been so low, I ended up finding too many redeeming points about it, and maybe one day Iâll come to disagree with myself about all this. But for now, I honestly feel that this is one of the only bad movies I wish they had done more of.

Love, Robot Review!
Love, Robot
Author: Margaret Rhee
the operating system, 2017
Rating: 5/5 bingsuâsÂ
Summary: A poetry collection by Margaret Rhee, a Korean American poet. She writes about love between humans and robots in a science fictional world.
Content warning: No content warnings apply.
Hello, I am CoreaMod and this is my first post for We Have Thoughts! I will be reviewing media related to South Korea, ranging from books, (plant-based) recipes, movies, TV shows, music, etc. Since this is my first post, Iâd like to share a little bit about why I chose to review Korea-related media.
I grew up in South Korea before I moved to the U.S. a dozen years ago. For the first few years here, all I wanted was to be able to fit in. And I tried hard. I thought I needed to submerge myself in the 'American' culture. So I stopped reading in Korean, stopped watching Korean shows, and never learned to cook Korean food. My goal was to assimilate, assimilate, assimilate. I felt satisfied and accomplished when I shed my accent and people started to compliment me for my accentless English. And I took it as a big compliment when people said that I pass as an American. I was relieved in my ability to blend in. I do not blame my young self for thinking so. Being the quiet Asian girl who does not speak English in high school was not easy and I needed to survive through that period. But I abandoned so much of my true self in doing so. I only realized in the past few years that I lost so much of what defined me. What I should have never let go of. What I should have carried dearly with me. I resonate so much with the following section from Matt Ortileâs book, The Groom Will Keep His Name, about his immigrant experience.
pg. 28 I tried to drain myself of my Filipinoness to fit the role of a model American minority so much that I ran on a cultural deficit. Though habits and traditions and cuisines and languages alone do not comprise an identity, they make up a big part of it. Severed as I was from my family and homeland, to deprive myself of what made me Filipino only exacerbated my feelings of separation and lack, how I felt unrooted in America and uprooted from the Philippines. Â Â Â It was up to me to reframe the facets of my Filipinoness as nourishing things, to reclaim them from my internalized colonialism, this parasite that made a host of me.
I started to slowly understand that I equated being American to being white. And I am learning to unlearn the internalized white supremacy, colonialism, and imperialism. It will be a life-long journey, but I want to stay committed to it. In an effort to reclaim my identity, I have been intentionally familiarizing myself with the Korean culture through various media. So when I was invited to We Have Thoughts!, I figured Korea-related posts would be a good fit for me.
My first review is on the poetry collection Love, Robot by Margaret Rhee (published in 2017 by the operating system). Rhee introduces herself as âa poet, scholar, and new media artistâ and she writes âwith attention to social issues and technology.â Isn't it such an interesting intersection? This is well reflected in Love, Robot. If my fading memory is correct, I first came across her poem through Asian American Writerâs Workshopâs Instagram story. It shared a bit from the poem âCoca Colaâ and I still remember the pang I felt when I read it.
pg. 60 Coca Cola
The law of robotics says we cannot
Injure a human being. The ten commandments
say never harm, and so I wonât say what
I want. I wonât be honest. Although
when you ask me, if I am seeing some-
one else, I will say, robota, I am
not seeing you. I know it hurts. But
code fails. Donât bother me anymore.
Iâm going to leave you uncharged.
Until you run out of battery,
and become just dead light.
Sins are never atoned between humans
and machines.
Pray for forgiveness and repeat.
I marveled at how Rhee uses words like screws, circuits, motors, cords, and wires to talk about love. Heart wrenchingly beautiful love, that is. She takes objects that are conventionally considered cold, soulless, and standardized and transforms them into substances of emotion, desire, and despair. Additionally, she has intricately woven race and sexuality into her poems, as in âRadio Heartâ.
pg. 37 Radio Heart
(âŠ)
Race is not programmed yet
So as you trace around my eyes
My lips, the round contours of my face
You say, you are so human, all human.
I not only enjoyed her unique perspective that comes from her Korean American background, but also appreciated the freedom that comes with talking about love between humans and robots. That transcendental love, embracing whoever you are, and whoever you love.Â
I'm grateful to have gotten to know writers who write for readers like me, like Margaret Rhee, Matt Ortile, R.O. Kwon, Alexander Chee, Cathy Park Hong, ... I'm excited to talk more about them in the coming posts.
pg. 82 say, robot
murmur to me, it is the middle of the night.
your maker may not know
we all deserve a song that is untranslatable
If you are interested in an untranslatable love song, this poignant collection may be for you.
