several sentence sunday
thanks for the tag, @bidisasterevankinard!
continuing from this ridiculousness because y'all seemed to enjoy it!
Sal and Tommy bicker the whole way back to Tommy's place and Buck has to do his best not to look completely lovelorn about it. He likes Tommy like this - sharp and a little mean, matching Sal's over the top East Coast bitchiness with ease. He especially likes the instant switch to familiar softness when he pulls up outside Tommy's house and Tommy reaches over to squeeze his leg.
"Thank you, baby."
Sal makes a retching noise as he hops out of the Jeep and heads for the house. Tommy rolls his eyes and climbs out too, so Buck follows even though he'd really like to keep Tommy to himself for a minute.
"Get your case, you lazy asshole," Tommy calls after Sal, where he's already rooting around for the hide-a-key.
"You get my case, I'm a guest in your goddamn house."
"I got it," Buck assures them both. "There's beer in the fridge, you guys go on."
"I like this one," Sal says, as Tommy unlocks the door, and he must know Buck can hear him, but Buck hides his grin anyway.
"So do I, so if you could possibly avoid fucking this up for me, that'd be great."
"Me? Shut the fuck up, Kinard, I'm your goddamn fairy godmother."
Tommy leaves the front door open behind them and Buck hauls Sal's case and Tommy's duffle out of the Jeep to follow them inside. He finds them in the kitchen, peace having briefly fallen as they investigate the beers Buck chose from Tommy's favorite brewery. Buck doesn't miss the appreciative smile Tommy sends his way.Â
"You guys hungry? I can heat up the lasagne I made if you like?"Â
Buck's just now realizing it was maybe a little bold to make a lasagne for a guy who's been back home with his actual Italian family for a week, but Sal just shrugs and says, "Sounds good."
"Evan, you didn't have to - "
"I wasn't gonna let you come home to your sad meal prep Tupperwares, Tommy."
Sal cackles. "Still on that chicken breast and broccoli train, huh?"
"Oh my god. Never should have let you two in the same room," Tommy grumbles.

tastes like (he) might be the one
an: So this post made me feel some things and the drabble I started out underneath got wordy enough that I decided not to fully hijack the post.
Tommy is just now realizing has no idea how to prepare a meal.
Evan had told him where the spare key was and Tommy had wanted to do something nice for him but he is a forty year old man with NO concept of how to make a meal.
What do you put in a salad? Kale goes into the bowl and he finds Evan's cheese grater and a Romano wedge, but there's no bread around and Tommy eyes the bag of premade croutons in his pantry with unease before he calls it good.
The caprese is easy, he's made it a million times, a quick snack that reminds him of afternoons on his grandmother's back porch, drinking the thimble of espresso she'd allowed him while she spoke in her heavily accented voice.
He doesn't actually know how to tell Evan he's avoiding gluten without disappointing him, yet, (God he's down bad, the thought of Evan's bright smile faltering a bit like he's disappointed he hadn't thought to ask makes Tommy want to launch himself into the stratosphere) so he throws the pan of lasagne back in the oven on low and just... takes a deep breath.
Evan won't be back for at least another hour, though, and Tommy is fighting the itch to snoop, so he takes a quick glance at the supplies on hand and ends up whipping up the stracciatella recipe his mom had used to make him when he was sick. He's halfway through prepping it when he realizes he's fucking insane, but it's too late now.
The text hits his screen before he can contemplate hiding the evidence of the soup.
Be there in twenty.
So Tommy stirs, and rubs his suddenly sweaty hands on his thighs, and then he stares at the disaster he's made of the kitchen and starts sweeping things into the sink.
Evan, Eddie, everyone always thinks he's so cool, but the reality is that behind closed doors he's a fucking disaster and his head is a jumble of nerves. This is too much. Cohesively, it might make some semblance of sense in the range of 'this is all vaguely italian' but a minestrone would have been better, he just hadn't had the time. This is too much -- too much food, too much effort, too much like ripping open his chest and guiding Evan's hand to wrap around his pumping heart and squeeze.
The locks on the doors tumble open just as Tommy is drying the cutting board, and Evan presses in with a tired smile.
The smile goes wider at the sight of his table, laid out in some semblance of order Tommy doesn't remember, but it had made sense at the time.
Be cool, Kinard, Tommy thinks to himself, but he can't help but melt a little when Evan tosses his keys carelessly to the side board and then slides across the room, no unease in his face as he sidles up, hands curling around Tommy's hips, head tilted in the way Tommy absolutely knows is a flirt, now.
"Hey."
Tommy blinks. He's disarming, unreal, Tommy has known him for barely any time at all but he'd bend over backwards to make that smile stay on Evan's face forever.
"Hi."
Evan's thumbs are playing with his belt loops, and his grin dimples his cheeks, and suddenly he's slightly less alarmed that he'd cobbled together a disaster of a three (four?) course meal like a crazy person.
Tommy wants to hand him his spare key back. He also wants to grab his key ring and add the spare to it, full eye contact going while he tucks it in between the truck key and his own house key. He wants to bite Evan's neck, and tug him into his chest and never let go, he wants -
"Smells good in here. Did you make something? You didn't have to make anything, I would have -."
"I wanted to," he manages, around the blinding flare of Evan's smile.
Tommy is cool as a fucking cucumber. Evan presses his lips to the junction of Tommy's jaw, darts around him before Tommy can reciprocate. Grabs two wine glasses from a cabinet and when Tommy turns to look at the broad expanse of his back, Evan has his head ducked bashfully, and Tommy can see the edges of his grin, the swell of his cheek in profile.
At least he's not alone in this, Jesus.
Evan pours them wine, fingers curling around Tommy's. He stares at the meager offerings on display, and Tommy can see him ticking off serving utensils in his mind. He doesn't say a word about the monstrosity that is a kale and Romano salad (???), just dances around Tommy again, wine glass balanced in his hand, to grab some dressing from the fridge.
"Hey, there are oven mitts in that top drawer, there, can you grab the lasagne? It's gluten free, Chin mentioned something about you avoiding it?"
Tommy contemplates sinking to his knees right there in front of his sad sack salad. Why hadn't he looked for ingredients for the caprese first?
Instead he pulls the lasagne out, lays it out across the wicker hot pads he'd set out earlier. The moment it's securely on the table, Evan presses fully against his back, and Tommy wonders if he should have stopped to get flowers. Or condoms.
Both, probably.
"Did you make me soup?" he asks, lips pressed to the knob of Tommy's spine.
"From what I hear you've had a rough day. Soup always makes a rough day better." He wishes his wine glass was still in his hand, and not next to the oven where he'd left it. He twists to face Evan and Evan gives up zero ground, toe to toe and a delighted little gleam in his eye Tommy knows is going to get him in trouble one day.
"Hi," Evan says, again, and Tommy curls a hand around his hip and drags him half an inch closer.
#sorry you can't tell me tommy isn't secretly an overthinker#also sorry for the terrible BE lyric title but not actually sorry#bucktommy#bucktommy fic#911 fic

This Vegan Aubergine & Red Pepper Lasagne is a hearty and flavorful twist on the classic Italian dish. Layers of tender aubergines and sweet red peppers are sandwiched between rich tomato sauce and creamy béchamel, creating a satisfying meal that will please vegans and non-vegans alike.
Ingredients: 2 large aubergines, thinly sliced. 2 red bell peppers, thinly sliced. Lasagne sheets enough for 3 layers. 1 onion, finely chopped. 3 cloves garlic, minced. 1 can 400g crushed tomatoes. 1 cup tomato passata. 1 tablespoon tomato paste. 1 teaspoon dried oregano. 1 teaspoon dried basil. Salt and pepper to taste. 2 cups plant-based milk. 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour. 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast. 2 tablespoons olive oil. Fresh basil leaves for garnish.
Instructions: Set the oven to 180C 350F and heat it up. Warm up the olive oil in a big pan over medium-low heat. Put in the garlic and onions, and cook them until they become clear. Tomato passata, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper should all be added. Let it cook for 10 minutes. Add the sliced aubergines to the hot olive oil in a different pan. Make it until it's soft and golden brown. Put away. Add the sliced red peppers to the same pan and cook them until they get soft. Put away. Mix plant-based milk, flour, and nutritional yeast together in a small saucepan. To make the bchamel sauce, cook until it gets thick. Put tomato sauce in a baking dish and spread it out. Aubergines and red peppers should be put on top of the lasagne sheets. Add more layers until all the ingredients are gone, ending with a tomato sauce layer. Spread out the lasagne as you pour the bchamel sauce on top of it. Put foil over the baking dish and bake for 30 minutes. It needs to be baked for 10 more minutes after taking off the foil, until the top is golden brown and bubbling. Before serving, sprinkle with fresh basil leaves.
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes

2024 Lanzarote Spring Sun
Wednesday 10th April
Today was nothing day. But that was a lie. I'll explain now.
At around 10ish all of us had been up for like an hour (except my little brother who was just getting up) and my parents and I had done a stock check and determined we needed water amongst other things. We set off towards Teguise (not Costa Teguise where we are staying), to Cafe Maria (Tahiche) to do a recce for a later meal.
It was interesting. Clearly a local watering hole, mum had a wine, Dad had a coffee, and I had a smaller Fanta :(. It seemed interesting but we decided against eating there. I was also bemused by the local university (of tourism) and the British school of Lanzarote.
Anyways, we headed home to get my younger siblings and check out a local eatery that was on our list, only to find out that the local eatery was rammed. We booked seats there tomorrow and headed onwards to Costa Teguise's Restaurante Bacchus. We had to take a table around the corner (to dodge the wind) and kept getting hit with the smell of sewage. There were foil surfers (with kites) all over the beach and on the waves. My sister and parents had the 14 euro deals (starter, main and dessert), having Bolognese, lasagne and squid as their mains. I had a sea bream with Canarian potatoes (traditionally boiled in sea water [although these are boiled in tap water with added salt nowadays]) and my brother had a pretty good tex-mex pizza. It was pretty good.
After lunch we went to the beach, where my little sister was desperate to go into the ocean. Dad had bowel problems. Despite none of us being willing or wanting to go into the ocean, I eventually caved and went in (wearing a pair of my little brother's shorts). I looked stupid, but it was good. My little brother also joined us and we tried to surf in on the waves by swimming with them and trying to be with them as they broke. We took several falls and loved it. Up until the end, where I ballsed up a jump, and my chin got pushed down into the floor and my legs dragged over my head to flip me. I grazed my chin and my breathing became silly. I kept making little groans.
My brother ended without such injuries (as did my sister), so we got vaguely made up and went back to the car and headed home (all of us looking a little sandy and bedraggled). I'm still pulling grains of sand from my ears.
My brother took a shower and myself and my parents headed out to the shops (a job that we had failed to do up until 18:00). We got the water, meat, more snacks, and various other stuffs.
We got home and I showered, my sister bathed, and dad made a salsa, and prepped fajitas for that evening's meal. One of the best meals we've had. We discussed what's happening on the remaining few days of the holiday and considered the future trip to Timanfaya.
Our energy troughed and we relaxed for the rest of the evening before heading to bed.

How to make Classic Lasagna with Ricotta cheeseâ at home? - Chicken Fried Receipe

How to make Classic Lasagna with Ricotta cheeseâ at home?
The word âlasagnaâ or âlasagneâ is derived from the word âLaganonâ which is a Greek word for pasta. Although many of us connect lasagna pasta with Italy, some claim that it actually originated in either Greece or England. The majority of reports, nevertheless, tend to suggest that the pasta meal as we know it today initially appeared in the Middle Ages in the Italian city of Naples.
The Classic Lasagna Recipe
Ricotta cheese is a popular ingredient in lasagnas because it gives the dish a creamy texture and delicious flavor.
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 50 minutes
Ingredients
http://chickenfriedrecipe.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/lasagne-768x960-1-2-2.png
1 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. sweet Italian sausage
1 medium onion -chopped
2 garlic cloves -minced
1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
1 (15 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons sugar
3 teaspoons salt -divided
3 teaspoons Italian seasoning -divided
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil leaves -divided
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 cup minced fresh flat-leaf parsley -divided
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese -divided
15 oz. (1 Ÿ cups) whole milk Ricotta cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese -divided
1 large egg
12 lasagna noodles
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
Prepare the meat sauce. Over medium-high heat, add the beef and sausage, breaking them up with a wooden spoon. Add the garlic and onion. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, or until meat is browned. From the meat, remove the fat. Put the meat back in the skillet.
Add the water, sugar, 2 teaspoons of salt, 2 teaspoons of Italian spice, 1 teaspoon of basil, and the black pepper to the tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and water. Stir
Thoroughly to mix.
Cover and reduce the heat to low.The sauce should simmer for 30 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons of the parsley that has been minced.
Make the ricotta mixture while the sauce simmers. 1 cup mozzarella, 1 cup ricotta, 1/4 cup parmesan, 2 tablespoons parsley, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon Italian spice, and 1/2 teaspoon basil should be combined in a big bowl. Stir thoroughly to combine.
Cook the pasta according to its package directions.
Put the lasagna together. Add a very thin layer of meat sauce (approximately 14 cup) to a 13Ă9-inch baking dish. 3 lasagna noodles, 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, and 1 12 cups of meat sauce should be layered. Layers is repeated twice.
Add a final layer of the remaining noodles, meat sauce, 1 cup mozzarella, and Πcup parmesan.
Cover with foil that has been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil. Bake 15 more minutes.
Prior to slicing, allow the lasagna to cool for 15 to 20 minutes.
Is lasagna healthy?
Even though lasagna is not typically considered a healthy dinner, you can add nutritious substitutes at home to boost the mealâs nutritional content. When making lasagna, choose whole-wheat noodles rather than white ones because white noodles digest quickly and raise blood sugar levels after eating.
If youâre using ground beef or chicken in your lasagna, choose 95 percent lean cuts, and rinse the meat after cooking to remove any excess fat. To cut down on your consumption of fat, use less cheese, sprinkle it on top sparingly, and pick low-fat mozzarella. Finally, add plenty of vegetables to your lasagna to increase the mealâs fiber, vitamin, and mineral value.
To acquire the nutritional advantages of veggies without dramatically altering the texture of your lasagna, try pureeing the cooked vegetables immediately into the tomato sauce before building your lasagna if you donât like the texture of vegetable pieces.

Julia knew The Healthy Mummy was the perfect tool to help her get back on track!
Julia Meadows has been a part of The Healthy Mummy community for years and has had amazing results using the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge, so when she saw some of the weight come back, she knew exactly what to do to get back on track. The weight loss journey is full of ups and downs because life is full of the same. So when Juliaâs mental health wasnât great, she also noticed the weight sheâd previously lost with the help of the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge had crept back on, so she instantly turned to the challenge to help turn it around again. Read her amazing progress with her restarted journey with The Healthy Mummy belowâŠ
After a setback, this mum knew The Healthy Mummy would be the perfect tool to get her back on track!
Julia Meadows is a 38-year-old mum of two girls in Melbourne and sheâs been a fabulous part of The Healthy Mummy community for years. Weâve been with Julia as sheâs had her ups and downs through this weight loss journey and sheâs shared her multiple successes with us over the years. Like many of us, the last few years have taken their toll mentally on Julia and this caused her to put the weight sheâd successfully lost back on, but she wasnât worried she knew she could get healthy again. âIâve been following the 28 Day Challenges for many years now and managed to lose 12kgâs during the first year.â âUnfortunately, my depression got the better of me at the end of 2019, and I put all the weight back on.â âFour months ago, I started again on my Healthy Mummy journey and have lost 4kg and 15cm so far.â The benefit of making the conscious decision to restart her Healthy Mummy journey is that Julia has seen not only her physical health change but also her mental health as well. âLosing weight by eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly has not only improved my physical but also my mental health. Iâm enjoying life again. I have more energy to do things with my family again. We cook, bake, go for walks to the playground and try to stay active as much as possible.â Along with the recipes and meal plans in the Healthy Mummy 28 Day Challenge Julia loves to use The Healthy Mummy Smoothies as a fast but healthy and filling breakfast, plus some of our other products such as Super Greens. âIâve been using the Healthy Mummy Smoothies for many years now as well as many of the other Healthy Mummy products. The smoothies are definitely my favourite Healthy Mummy product, though, and I have one every morning.â âI absolutely love bliss balls. They are so easy to make, and every single recipe Iâve tried over the years was delicious. My favourite bliss ball recipe is the snickers bliss balls. Even my fussy kids love them. Our favourite family meal has to be the stovetop-lasagne. Itâs a regular in our family, and we usually have it once a week.â Julia also finds the workouts not only enjoyable but so easy to access from The Healthy Mummy app. âMy favourite app workouts are the HIIT workouts with Wendy. Those always leave me feeling amazing and ready to start the day in a positive mindset.â 3 things that have kept Julia on track - Remember why you started in the first place. Iâve got a motivating board hanging up in my kitchen. That way, I have a daily reminder of why I started and how far Iâve already come. - Get moving. Exercise will not only help you lose weight, but it is also fantastic to improve your overall health and fitness. The 28 Day Challenges weight loss challenges will give you daily, easy-to-do exercise ideas, and you can do them in the comfort of your own home. - Support. Having the right support will keep you committed and motivated. The Healthy Mummy has multiple Facebook pages with over a million supportive and inspiring members. Also, get your partner or friend to join you. We are more likely to stay on track when sharing our journey with someone else and who doesnât love a workout buddy? Meal prepping and planning have also been key factors to Juliaâs success, and she credits The Healthy Mummy with helping her with that and with understanding exactly what sheâs eating. âMeal prepping once a week not only saves time during the week but also a lot of money.â âFood preparation and planning in advance are key to making sure I stay on track. I take an hour or two on the weekend and customise my meal plans.â âFollowing the 28 Day Challenges gives me a great understanding of what exactly is in my food.â âFreezing snacks and meals is very convenient and saves a lot of time and money. It saves us around $100 a week on our grocery shop. Having healthy meals on hand is a big help to avoid reaching for quick, unhealthy foods when the big hunger strikes.â Weâre so happy to hear that Julia is again finding success, support and confidence again with The Healthy Mummy! Request from @lubunnii: Not going anon for this one. This is purely self indulgent,
Rossiâs child is underweight (not an ED or anything) and because of their anxiety they donât really have an appetite.
Thatâs all I got, you can add more to that if you want.
David Rossi x teen!reader
Summary:Â Preparation of food is a sign of love in your family, so when your anxiety makes your stomach churn, your dad prepares you something special.
A/N:Â Thank you for this request! Hopefully it is what you were looking for. My ANS sucks so I understand the loss of appetite thing and sometimes a smoothie is all I can manage to get down so that's the first thing that came to mind.
CW:Â reader has a hard time eating due to anxiety, reader is underweight, doctors don't take reader seriously, lots of talk about eating and food and feeling sick
---
You didnât hate food. How could you when you grew up in the Rossi household? A place where meals were made with passion, following recipes that had been passed down for generations which brought people together time and time again. The careful preparation of dishes and gathering to eat together was part of the way your dad expressed love. Heâd go to the local grocery stores to pick out the finest ingredients and then spend hours in the kitchen cooking for the two of you, making sure everything was perfetto.
But good god your anxiety was a bitch. The underlying sensation of stress that caused your entire body to shake under the skin and your heart rate to rise also made you sick to your stomach. The nervous churning of your insides and the unsettled nature of your gut made you too nauseous to eat anything. Sometimes you could manage something easy on your stomach- a cup of plain yogurt with some fruit, half a granola bar, or a few bites of lightly buttered pasta if you were lucky- but some days you woke up feeling as thought you might vomit if you even smelled food.
And it really really sucked.
Your doctor had told you that you needed to eat more. Your weight had dropped below what was healthy, but all the M.D. did was write you a prescription for some prozac and send you on your way. Youâd go back in a few months just to find out that your body still couldnât keep on weight and be switched to a different SSRI that wouldnât do any good in fixing the problem. Any request you made for anti-nausea medication would be denied due to the fact that you âjust needed to relaxâ or âlearn to meditateâ or some other stupid passive gaslighting excuse a medical professional could come up with.
You laid on your bed, hoping that the nausea would subside soon so you could get something- anything- in your stomach. Despite your lack of appetite all you really wanted right now was to be able to enjoy the extravagant pasta dish your dad was preparing in the kitchen at the moment. The thought of missing out on it made you upset, but the thought of joining in made you want to vomit.
âPolpette! Dinner is ready!â your dad called from downstairs.
Years ago your nickname- meatball- would have made you smile. It was your favorite food when you were a little kid and it still was, but now hearing it just made you sad. Your stomach couldnât handle the rich, hand-molded, mouth-watering food anymore.
You sighed and got out of bed, exhausted from your constant underlying unease and lack of fuel from being unable to consume more than a few hundred calories at a time. When you reached the kitchen, your dad welcomed you with his warmest smile.
âWe have options tonight!â he said. Since Garcia got him into meal prepping, heâd often spend his days off making multiple dishes that could be reheated easily if he was in a rush. David Rossi wouldnât be caught dead buying take out. âThere is simple lasagne, spinach and cheese ravioli, chicken tetrazzini, and your great grandmotherâs carbonara!â
The smell of the dishes hit your nose and your face warped as the idea of ingesting anything made you want to gag. You weighed your options.
âI- um.â You felt your face twist even more. âI donât think-â
You felt panic rise in your chest, your hands shaking and your stomach churning. Tears began to flood your eyes and you shut them tight to keep them from falling.
Rossi was next to you in a second, wrapping you in a fierce hug. âItâs okay.â
âNo itâs not, dad,â there was a hitch in your voice. âI want to eat but I feel so sick every time I think about it.â
Rossi placed a kiss on top of your head. âGo sit in the living room. Iâll be there in a minute, okay?â
You nodded and your dad wiped away your tears before you left the kitchen to sit in the living space. You curled up on the sofa, hugging your knees to your chest and leaning your head back against the couch cushions, willing your stomach to settle.
A few minutes later your dad walked into the living room and sat down next to you; he was holding a cup of something with a straw poking out the top. âHere,â he said, holding the straw for you. âHave some of this.â
You slowly sipped from the straw, a not-too-sweet liquid filling your mouth. It was a smoothie- strawberry and blueberry if you had to guess. The ache in your stomach calmed just a little as you swallowed the liquid mixture. Your dad rubbed your back with his free hand and you took another small sip.
âThere you go,â Rossi said quietly. You leaned into him and he put the smoothie down on the coffee table to wrap you in a hug. âHow are you feeling?â
âA little better,â you said. It was true- your dad knew exactly what you needed at that moment. It wasnât a heavy dish that he had spent hours preparing, pouring his heart and generations of your familyâs cooking techniques into in an effort to make it the most mouth-watering and flavorful meal on the planet; it was some fruit and ice cubes in a blender.
âGood,â Rossi said. He squeezed you gently around the shoulders. âWeâre going to figure this out, alright? But until then Iâll do my best to make things easy for you.â
âOkay,â you whispered, thankful for your fatherâs understanding.
For the next hour, the two of you watched TV, him helping you take small sips of the smoothie between long stretches of time so you didnât make yourself sick. It wasnât until you almost finished the drink and he tucked you in bed that he went back to the kitchen to make a pitcher of the mixture in the hopes that you could drink some of it throughout the day tomorrow.
Perhaps it wasnât the ingredients or the hours that made food special, but the thought and love behind it.

Thess vs Dining Conventions
Today was my version of a âspoon recharge dayâ. I had been planning to go to the big Sainsburyâs to get some prawns (the last item I need for proper gluten-free wonton soup) but I was tired and achy so I just thought, fuck it, staying home.
But of course, me being me, I still Did Stuff.
Made more instant hot chocolate mix because I had run out
Made chicken broccoli pasta bake (used onion instead of chestnut mushrooms; came out really nice)
Portioned out the leftovers
Prepped for making lamb dopiaza and aloo gobi tomorrow
Did I mention how nice it is to just ... have food that just needs defrosting or reheating just ... there? Not to mention the things that are going to be meals thatâll probably last me most of the rest of the month? I mean, I still wince at the grocery bill, but if I wasnât teaching myself the Way of Batch Cooking, Iâd be in a lot worse shape. I mean, hereâs whatâs available for the month:
Leftover chicken broccoli pasta bake
Leftover chicken adobo
Leftover split-pea soup (that recipe made a LOT of soup)
Lamb dopiaza and aloo gobi with basmati rice
Lasagne
Chilli (or possibly spaghetti bolognaise; something with the rest of the mince anyway)
Possibly tuna casserole (topped with crisps, not breadcrumbs)
Tuna lemon broccoli pasta
Roast chicken leg (I had one left after baked chicken with potatoes and carrots)
Chicken risotto
Most of whatâs needed for wonton soup (prawns tomorrow)
Smoothies (strawberry or kiwi fruit; maybe mango if I splurge shopping tomorrow)
Most of this is batch cooking, so anywhere from 3-6 servings depending on serving size. I have at least two portions each of the leftovers. Only one chicken leg quarter, but that and the smoothies are basically the only thing Iâm preparing as a single âmealâ, insofar as smoothies are considered a meal. And I kind of have to, because ... look, my appetiteâs been weird lately. Like, I wonât be hungry for a lot of the day and then Iâll have dinner around about meds-time and then I will be ravenous as fuck fairly late. Iâm pretty sure this is a response to getting up, getting coffee and getting nearly straight to work most days, maybe snacking a little if thereâs a minute. With the increase in my hours (yes, I did ask for it, more money is good), that probably wonât cut it, so Iâll see if getting a smoothie as well as getting my coffee helps normal things out. Either way, it just means that if I am horribly hungry before bed, at least I can put something moderately substantial in the microwave instead of standing up at the kitchen counter, munching buttered corn thins and refrigerator dill pickles.
I know itâs all fairly unorthodox. But honestly, not caring that much. Iâm finding ways to eat well despite everything, so Iâm not going to let convention stop me from doing so. And since Iâm getting a sort of value-pack of âeating wellâ, âfinding things I can do despite neuropathic pain conditionâ, and âpride in a job well doneâ, I think Iâm doing way better.
...Still want to invite people over for dinner, though.
