I started my emo phase a little late, so I didn't really get into this song until a few years ago, but it honestly slaps and it's one of the few that I virtually never skip

Probably my favorite DKM song, it keeps their Celtic punk vibes while still being more lighthearted than their usual stuff~

"Punk rock has been homophobic forever," he tells Double J before the band return to Australia for this weekend's Good Things festival.

"I've always been scared of my sexuality in punk rock. I didn't come out as a cross-dresser till I was 45. I was terrified to be feminine.

"In the 80s, if someone had long hair, you'd get beat down by 10 people. There was no room for any vagueness."

Dumb jokes, substance abuse and railing against the system have seemed like key tenets of Fat Mike's life and career to this point. These days, his focus seems squarely on his sexual identity.

He wants the world to know who he is – a male kinkster (Mike has long been an advocate of a BDSM lifestyle) who identifies as queer – and he wants his fans to know it's okay to be who they are.

"I think it's important for someone like me, who is a popular punk musician and a bro – you know, I can hang, I'm a bro – but I'm very feminine," he says.

"I want to feel sexy, and I want to feel feminine, and I want to be submissive. And men have such a hard time with that.

"We're allowed to do whatever we want. We're allowed to be as feminine as we want to be. We're not allowed by society. So, I'm taking it on. I'm taking on being a role model that I don't wish to be, but I think it's important."

Naturally this side of his life has become a part of NOFX. Mike has worn dresses on stage for years, and recent records feature revelations about how he wants the world to see him.

'I'm not a cis, I'm a sissy' he sings on 'Fuck Euphemism' from NOFX's 2021 record Single Album.

"It doesn't help my career," he says. "When I first started cross-dressing on stage, I got shit. I got shit from people in my band. Like, 'Do you have to wear a dress every night?'

"I'm like, 'No, I don't have to. But what's your fucking problem with it? It makes me happy. And I think it means a lot to people in the crowd'."
