I'm a great fan of the works of Maynard Dixon, and I was pleased to see this fine example displayed at the Tucson Museum of Art. I especially like the bright foreground and the contrast of the jagged Santa Catalina mountains, dark in shadow in the distance.

Dixon and his wife, Edith Hamlin, built a home in Tucson in 1941. In 1945 Dixon painted this landscape that prominently features the house of his neighbors, Gilbert and Ruth Mary Ronstadt. Their celebrated daughter Linda was born the following year, just a few months before Dixon's death.
