hi. hello. i have to have an extra super fun dental surgery on may 20th. : ) it's gonna cost me a lovely $3k. it's not going to kill us but it is going to make things uncomfortable for the next however long it takes me to pay it off because uh. afterwards i'll also have to get a crown done. :') i don't know how much that's going to be yet but that'll be happening in july.

[edit] i had complications that have drawn this whole process out... now i'm not entirely sure what the final bill for the primary surgery is, yay! :') i do still have to get a crown on top off all of this mess, but that won't be happening until october it sounds like...

Behind enemy lines

Reader Summary: A recon mission gone wrong (I'll add more for the summary I swear) Word Count: 3253 (why is it so short-) Warning(s): A gunshot wound (though it's not mentioned) A/N: Uhhh I present to you another story! I tried to make it interesting but it may or not be boring when you read this (I swear the ideas are not coming in when I need them grhehshak). I wanted this to be a one-shot so it'll be longer for you guys, but my friend said to make it into two parts :3 It's still under editing but it's safe to read it!

It was supposed to be a simple recon mission from Laswell, just like usual. But this time it was a two member recon mission, and they sent you in with Price. The need for intel was imperative. It was crucial to get out without making too much chaos, and you both were a perfect duo to get the job done (if you just ignore how much you admire him).

Laswell's orders were clear and simple, "Get the needed info, and get out without getting detected."

But of course, nothing ever goes as smoothly as one might have expected.

Laswell's voice crackled over the comms, "There's been a change in the situation, I need you both to abort the mission."

"Roger that." Price responded back with no questions asked.

You both prepared your gear and went out of the room, going to the hallway. As you and Price crept in the shadows, avoiding detection, everything seemed to be going as planned.

Until it wasn't, yet again.

The enemies had successfully set an ambush for you both. The situation went south rather quickly, and it seemed as if they had been aware of your plans all along.

Soon all hell broke loose.

"Laswell, we need immediate evac!" Price yelled over the comms, the sound of bullets flying beside him.

"On it, John." She replied back, her voice showing signs of worry.

Gunshots flew everywhere, the sound echoing through the air, nearly hitting one of you once, and the situation turned from bad to worse in the blink of an eye. As the gunshots kept flying, it was only a matter of time before something major would happen, and one of you would get hurt.

You could feel the adrenaline pumping through your body, your heart racing as you realize just how close you were to being hit. The intensity of the moment was almost too much to bear, but you managed to regain your composure and focus on the mission at hand. You were lucky this time, but it was clear as day that this was no ordinary recon mission.

You and Price were hidden behind a wall, trading fire with the enemy at every opportunity. The exit was close, you could see it, but the enemy seemed to have endless numbers, like a never ending wave of threats. Bullets and other projectiles flew past you, some missing you by inches. It was like a wall of lead was being aimed directly at you, and you realized your ammo was running dangerously low.

"Capt, I'm runnin' low on ammo!" You yelled between the sound of bullets whizzing past you.

Just as you finished yelling, the comms cackled to life again, as Laswell's voice could be heard.

"Evac's eight minutes away from your location." She said, earning a groan from Price.

"We don't have eight minutes, Laswell!" He said quickly.

As the fire kept coming at you, you and Price fired your last few shots, and heard the enemy's bullets becoming fewer and fewer with each passing second. The sound of footsteps stopped, the enemy was seemingly retreating. The two of you kept aim, staying alert for any surprises, yet as time passed it seemed more and more likely that the enemy was actually retreating.

You both moved towards the exit, making sure the coast was clear. You both shared a relieved look as you went towards the extraction point. However, in the midst of the relief, you suddenly felt a sharp, excruciating pain in the lower side of your abdomen.

Currently working (among other things) on a story that is most likely going to be called "Nooks & Crevices" and is about Bumblebee as well as several other people playing Hide & Seek with him. It will have 6 chapters and fluctuate between fluff and angst.

This is not directly related to this but I'm always so pleased when my word count for a certain scene/chapter is a 'nice' number.

Like. I just now finished the first draft for exposition for the first chapter of this and it is exactly 650 words long. And that is just so very, very neat in my opinion. Makes my brain happy.

I'm aware that it will change because I will edit this at least once (probably more than once because I feel that it is a bit convoluted right now). But for now it is just very neat and makes me happy. :D

And now have a sneak peak under the cut for being so nice as to read this. ^^ And because it will probably be a while before I get to officially upload this. Even if I finish it soon.

Optimus still remembered the cycle he had first taught Bumblebee how to play Hide and Seek well. It had been in the first of those pockets of deceptive non-peace, which had become frequent in the middle stages of the War, after the Autobots had taken in the yellow minibot sparkling.

Early on in the War, when it had still been called a Civil War by the media, after only a few hexacycles of fighting, both Autobots and Decepticons had been forced to concede that the War would not end anytime soon. Rather, it had turned into their new, permanent reality. However, neither of the factions possessed the resources to keep up combat indefinitely. They needed time for their troops to recuperate and their energon reserves to be filled.

Thus, these undiscussed ceasefires had been established. They often lasted only a few decicycles and apart from some minor skirmishes, there would be no major combat. Instead, a cautious and deceptive quiet would settle across deserted battlefields across Cybertron as both factions waited for scouting, inventions or espionage to yield advantageous results before advancing on the enemy once again.

When Optimus and Ratchet had first taken Bumblebee into their care, there had been no more public media outlets left to discuss the difference between War and Civil War; there had not been any in a long time. Temporary ceasefires, however, had long since become a regularity of life.

Still, it had taken several hexacycles before uneasy, combat-free non-peace enveloped Cybertron for the first time after Bumblebee’s rescue out of a collapsed shelter. When the ceasefire finally came, however, it turned out to be one of the longest the factions had seen yet. As quiet cycles stretched into calm decicycles even Optimus had been able to catch up with the never-ending flood of reports and paperwork, allowing the Prime to spend time with his bonded–be they amicae, conjunx or sparkling.

No one could remember the last time they had seen Ratchet this content. When one of Sideswipe and Sunstreaker’s pranks went awry, resulting in a giddy yellow sparkling covered in paint splotches, he did not even threaten the twins with a wrench to the head. Instead, the medic took a photograph to comm to his conjunx before sending the younglings to clean up Bumblebee.

Nevertheless, no matter how good a mimicry of peace this ceasefire may have presented, none of the Autobots could forget that they were living on borrowed time. The fighting would, most likely sooner rather than later, inevitably start up once again, shattering their idyllic fantasy of domesticity. Nevertheless, no matter how much they enjoyed these calm decicycles, none of them could truly forgot the constantly looming threat of warfare–none of them except for Bumblebee.

The newest and youngest member of the Autobot faction had unabashedly relished the apparent peace, delighted by the unusual amount of attention the older bots were paying him. The sparkling seemed completely undaunted, unaware even of the fact that the War had indeed not ended, just slowed down momentarily.

Even if it warmed their sparks, Optimus and Ratchet dreaded the cycle the fighting would begin anew and what the sudden change would do to Bumblebee’s psyche. Still, neither Prime nor medic were willing to rob the sparkling of his illusionary happiness prematurely.

However, even without having to shatter his peace, allowing him to keep his innocence intact for just a bit longer, there were ways to prepare Bumblebee for the realities of the War he had been forged in. They had to. As soon as the Decepticons learned of the new sparkling raised by the Autobot High Command, bonded to Optimus Prime and Ratchet of all bots, he would be a prime target. Just as Hot Rod had been and still was.

Playfully teaching Bumblebee how to behave in emergencies, how to hide and stay safe, Optimus had decided, would just be the first of many covert survival lessons.

Q: What's your turnaround rate?

Q: Can I use my commission for my YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, etc.?

A: Absolutely! So long as you aren't actively profiting directly from the commission by selling it (I.E., as stickers or on shirts), you can use it however you want! If you do want to use a commission for merchandise, we can work something out for that specifically.

Q: Can I make edits to my commission after I receive it?

A: Sure! I don't really care, it's yours after all. I just ask that you specify that any edits you make are by you when reposting or sharing the edited picture. (Ex: "This picture was a commission done by necro-hamster! He did the lineart, and I colored it in later.")

Q: Do you do deadlines?

A: Absolutely! If you want something done by a certain date, we can totally work something out. Depending on the deadline you're asking for, this may come with an extra fee. For instance, if you want something done in two days, and I have several other comms on my plate, I can bump you to the front of the list for a hefty fee. But, if you just ask me to finish something easy up by the end of the month, and I don't have much else piled up, I probably won't charge you.

Welcome to the 22nd installment of 15 Weeks of Phantom, where I post all 68 sections of Le Fantôme de l’Opéra, as they were first printed in Le Gaulois newspaper 115 yeas ago.

In today’s installment, we have Part I of Chapter 9, “Le mystérieux coupé” (“The Mysterious Carriage”).

This section was first printed on Wednesday, 27 October, 1909.

For anyone following along in David Coward's translation of the First Edition of Phantom of the Opera (either in paperback, or Kindle, or from another vendor -- the ISBN-13 is: 978-0199694570), the text starts at the beginning of Chapter 9, "That fatal night turned out badly for all concerned," and goes to, "But now he suddenly understood the mind of a young woman raised by a superstitious fiddler and this lady who believed in mumbo-jumbo. He shuddered to think of the consequences."

There are some differences between the Gaulois text and the First Edition. In this section, these include (highlighted in red above):

1) Chapter IX was misprinted as Chapter X. This numbering error was made in Chapter VII, and was not corrected, so it was propagated throughout the Gaulois publication.

2) Compare the Gaulois text:

Quant à Christine Daaé, elle avait disparu.

Translation:

As for Christine Daaé, she had disappeared.

To the First Edition (indicated by the 1st Red Arrow above):

Quant à Christine Daaé, elle avait disparu après la représantation.

Translation:

As for Christine Daaé, she had disappeared after the performance.

3) This section was added to the First Edition, and does not appear in the Gaulois (indicated by the 2nd Red Arrow above):

Il ne faut pas confondre cette première disparition, qui se passa sans scandale, avec le fameux enlèvement qui, à quelque temps de là, devait se produire dans des conditions si inexplicables et si tragiques.

Raoul fut le premier, naturellement, à ne rien comprendre à l’absence de la diva.

Translation:

One must not confuse this first disappearance, which went by without scandal, with the well-known abduction which, only a short while later, would occur under such inexplicable and tragic circumstances.

Naturally, Raoul was the first to find the diva's absence baffling.

4) This section was added to the First Edition, and does not appear in the Gaulois (indicated by the 3rd Red Arrow above):

Leurs amis eux-mêmes ne les reconnaissaient plus : ils avaient perdu toute joie et tout entrain. La chute du lustre avait entraîné bien des responsabilités, mais il était difficile de faire s’expliquer MM. les directeurs à ce sujet.

Translation:

Even their friends no longer recognized them; they had lost all their enthusiasm and good cheer. They could be seen crisscrossing the theatre, heads bowed, brows furrowed, and faces pale, as if they were pursued by some horrible thought, or prey to some evil trick of fate which takes hold of a man and never lets him go.

The chandelier's fall had incurred them numerous liabilities, but it was difficult to get the Managers to discuss the subject.

In the Gaulois, the text reads:

Il trouva des directeurs fort préoccupés, sans doute à cause des responsabilités qu'avait entraînées pour eux la chute de la lustre.

Translation:

He found the Managers quite distressed, no doubt because of the liabilities that they had incurred due to the chandelier's fall.

5) This section was added to the First Edition, and does not appear in the Gaulois (indicated by the 4th Red Arrow above):

Et il me faut bien dire que MM. Richard et Moncharmin apparurent à cette époque si changés, si lointains… si mystérieux… si incompréhensibles, qu’il y eut beaucoup d’abonnés pour imaginer que quelque événement plus affreux encore que la chute du lustre, avait modifié l’état d’âme de MM. les directeurs.

Dans leurs relations quotidiennes, ils se montraient fort impatients, excepté cependant avec Mme Giry qui avait été réintégrée dans ses fonctions. On se doute de la façon dont ils reçurent le vicomte de Chagny quand celui-ci vint leur demander des nouvelles de Christine.

Translation:

And I must say that at that time, MM. Richard and Moncharmin seemed so changed, so remote ... so mysterious ... so unfathomable, that many of the subscribers imagined that some event even more horrible than the fall of the chandelier had altered the Managers' state of mind.

In their daily interactions, they seemed to be exceedingly impatient, except with Mme Giry, who had been reinstated in her duties. One can guess the manner in which they received the Vicomte de Chagny when he came to ask them for news of Christine.

In the Gaulois, the text reads:

Ils firent à Raoul mauvaise mine quand il leur parla de Christine Daaé...

Translation:

They gave Raoul an unpleasant look when he spoke to them of Christine Daaé...

6) Compare the Gaulois text (highlighted in red above):

Il en tremblait en sonnant à sa porte, la porte d’un petit appartement de la rue Notre-Dame-des-Victoires.

Translation:

He was trembling as he rang at her door, the door of a small flat on the Rue Notre-Dame-des-Victoires.

To the First Edition:

Il en tremblait en sonnant à la porte d’un petit appartement de la rue Notre-Dame-des-Victoires.

Translation:

He was trembling as he rang at the door of a small flat on the Rue Notre-Dame-des-Victoires.

7) Here in the Gaulois text, Mme Valérius refers to Erik as the "génie de la musique" (the "Spirit of Music") instead of the "Ange de la musique" (the "Angel of Music"), as in the First Edition. (I have highlighted both instances in red above.)

Note that in French, "génie" means both "spirit" and "genius"; however, in this context, it refers to a spirit and not to someone of great intellectual prowess. Mistranslating “génie” as “genius” instead of “spirit” was one of Alexander Teixeira de Mattos' favorite errors in his 1911 abridged English translation of Phantom's First Edition. Thus Erik's statement to Christine in Apollo's Lyre should read, "It is true, Christine!… I am neither angel, nor spirit, nor phantom… I am Erik!" (Though I'm pretty sure that Erik would approve of de Mattos’ mistranslation in this case. ;-P)

8) Minor differences in punctuation and capitalization.

And in this week's edition of

On Wednesday, 02 October 2024, William did his first investiture since his last one on 04 June 2024.

Later in the day, those who were celebrating their honours had whatever minimal spotlight they get taken away when Kensington Palace released photos of Kate hugging an actual & verified cancer patient.

Kate released her end-of-"chemotherapy" video on 09 September, and only three-plus weeks later did she finally & publicly acknowledge the existence of other people's cancer via this photo op with Liz.

It's a photo op because Kate is not going to be able to count this as a work engagement in the court circular, according to Hannah Furness in The Telegraph.

Yes, it's a great story for Liz and her family, but why couldn't Kensington Palace just release the photo of Liz's family the day after the investiture? Just so those receiving their awards could enjoy their brief moment of sunshine?

I guess the KP comms team could not have waited a day because William had to spit out this bonmot the following day, when he did an engagement with actual Olympians.

But William responded: "No I was so keen to come but I have to say after reading someone’s interview about Covid [looking at Adam Peaty - who tested positive during the games] I decided, because my wife was obviously having chemo, that I didn’t want to risk bringing Covid home, so Adam very kindly reminded me that that was still a thing! But we watched the whole thing. We were glued to it every day."

Kate "was obviously having chemo," guys! That's why they couldn't attend the Olympics in Paris!

But Kate could go and sit at Wimbledon for multiple hours in the sun and hug Wimby athletes, who could be transmitters of viruses.

But Kate didn't need to separate herself from her school-age children, who are well-known germ carriers just like all other young children. No reports of that. Ever!

But also William doesn't do "work" appearances when his kids are out of school. It's not like William, who was president of the FA last year (2023), when the women's World Cup was in Australia could take the time to either a) travel to Australia for it or b) attend a public watch party to show his support. He doesn't want to cut into his copious vacation time by showing real-time support for UK athletes.

But, hey, good on William for staying on the pr message that Kate did chemo because she had CANCER! Just one day after Will & Kate's photo op with Liz's family.

But then there was the cherry on top of these pr shenanigans released by Tom Sykes of The Daily Beast yesterday. Within this article, which is kind of/sort of about assumptions regarding Charles's health, there is a lot of reframing of recent decisions by Will & Kate from the past 18 months.

William also sprang into action. Just days after the news was made public he appointed a new private secretary, Ian Patrick, an experienced former diplomat who had worked for the Foreign Office for eight years. The implication was clear: William would be stepping up to a bigger, more global role. William’s plans, however, were then brutally knocked aside by his own wife’s cancer diagnosis which forced him to retreat from public life, and international travel, for several months.

LOL!! Nice try whitewashing that hiring, Tom!

Ian Patrick was hired because Jean-Christophe Grey quit or gave notice he was resigning in September 2023, and William had to find someone else to replace him.

After all, no one picked up that CEO job that Kensington Palace put out at the same time JCG said he was leaving! Was the CEO posting even real, given how the search was "suspended" eight months later? After another private secretary was in place? Did William ever truly want a CEO? Or was this just a face-saving cover because Jean-Christophe suddenly said he was done?

And hey, let's not forget that Will & Kate haven't done a tour since 2022! They made it known after Charles's coronation in May 2023 that they weren't going to do another tour until 2024. William isn't going to do a tour solo. When will this "more global role" be happening? 2025? 2026? 2027?

Now, of course, with Kate’s recovery, William is back and has a much higher profile than his father, who has spent the last few weeks gathering and conserving his strength for the Australia tour.

William barely works and is scheduled to go on VACATION for two weeks on 18 October. And then William is going to do "work" for six more weeks until he can go on vacation for another 3.5 weeks.

William will resume long haul international travel when he travels to South Africa in early November for the Earthshot Awards. It promises to be a high-profile affair.

Is William actually going to South Africa? Is this a confirmation, Tom? Or is this statement just an assumption by you?

The king’s other brother, Prince Edward and Edward’s wife, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, who are neither great friends nor enemies with Charles, have successfully won the trust and affection of William and Kate and they are likely to be rewarded with a promotion when William’s reign begins.

Convenient, Tom, how you don't mention that Sophie wore a new (to her) tiara in June. Or that Sophie will likely get The Order of the Garter next year, either on her birthday in January or in the honour's list. What are you going to do, Tom, if Sophie wears another new tiara by the end of the year? Are you still going to play this game of Ed & Sophie just being neutral ("neither great friends nor enemies") to Charles?

This whole article is pure, adulterated spin on The Wales family pr blunders for the year. All the moves have happened because they had a grand plan. No mention of THAT MOTHER'S DAY PHOTO or other pr disasters from the spring. No, it's all going to a grand plan.

Executive power and influence is already flowing William’s way. Anyone who doubts that only has to look at the glossy Instagram video William and Kate published last month to announce her recovery from cancer. It wasn’t signed off by the king, and featured not Charles, but Kate’s parents, Mike and Carole.

William is walking around looking like shit terrible. So terrible that KP already gave quotes to InTouch Weekly to spin his gaunt & haggard frame. There's a stark difference in how he looks today versus how he looked when he filmed interviews for his Homewards documentary just a few months ago.

Kate can only tweet or do photo ops that aren't going to count as work in the court circular. Her future schedule is blank except for Remembrance Sunday and her Christmas carol concert.

Is David Beckham going to hold William's hand at other future engagements this fall? Sophie has her own work to do. She can't babysit William on a regular basis. She just picked up a new patronage.

A patronage that would have been right up Kate's alley, if Kate was still going to "work" in the future.

Perhaps we should be asking if parliament needs to rectify that Kate's marriage should be morganatic in the future, if she's not ever going to do regular royal duties again.

STAR WARS — The Acolyte

EP 7 — Choice

MAIN THOUGHTS:

I love that this episode was a throwback, a flashback to Episode 3 “DESTINY”, where the story is told mainly through Sol’s and Torbin’s eyes. As is always in Star Wars fashion, this was very much from a certain point of view.

Previously I’d theorized that the fire may have been spread by outside forces, but this was not the case; I’d also previously thought the witches died because of the fire, and again, I’d been proven wrong.

Also, interesting title of “Choice” versus Ep3’s “Destiny”; did Sol’s and Torbin’s choices result in what happened, or was it their destiny?

Spoilers in my thoughts and notes below.

- We open on Brendok, 16 years ago. This is clearly a flashback. Sol, Indara, Kelnacca, and Torbin. They search, but for what? Indara carries wields what looks like a metal detector, while Sol carries a portable machine-bag. He picks up a patch of moss and stuffs it into the case. No words are exchanged between the Jedi Masters.

- Later that evening, they sit around a campfire. We learn Torbin was a Padawan; was he Indara’s student? (Edit: yes.) Torbin speaks of wanting to go home, but is reminded of the mission he and the others are currently on. He thinks the mission has taken too long — “Seven weeks!” — but Indara reminds him otherwise. Sol says they’re searching for a “vergence”, defined by Indara as “a concentration of Force energy centered around a location”. Is this how Force-sensitive people know where to find other Force-sensitive people? That you don’t have to know where they are, but if you find their energy you would know where they are? Sol says that vergences are life-giving.

- Later the next day, the search continues. It seems now that the equipment they carry supposedly aid them in their search for this “vergence”. But how can machinery detect something that can’t be seen? Anything’s possible at this point. Indara isn’t sure that the vergence created life on Brendok.

- A lingering question remains; why do Indara and Sol wear gloves? He is instructed to fan out to continue his search, so heads out on his speeder. He arrives at a very small clearing, and comes across two translucent bird-creatures, the same creatures Mae and Osha were playing with in the first episode. He stills, then quietly follows the two creatures to a tree with yellow leaves; the same tree we saw in Ep1. This scene is Sol’s POV, and how he comes across Mae and Osha (when previously we had seen it from their POV).

- As before, the twins stop playing with the birds and walk off, trailed from behind by Sol. From his perspective, we see the twins being found by Mother Koril, but more importantly, we see that Sol realizes that he’s the first of the search team to realize there’s more than just the twins on this planet. He comms Indara to inform her of this.

- TITLE CARD!!

- Sol has followed the twins to the doorstep of their home. He keeps hidden, but watches as Mother Koril follows the twins inside. When the door closes, he steps up to the doorway, and presses a button, then looks up. The wall before him is formidable, it’s like he’s staring at a castle of some sort. He CLIMBS the sloped wall, and makes it to the top.

- Inside, he sneaks around, and witnesses the twins squabble before being disciplined by their other mother. He watches as she teaches the twins a lesson, then exits. But he makes a noise while leaving, so Mother Koril gets up to investigate.

- Elsewhere, he watches from behind as the witches conduct a short ceremony. Later that evening, he goes back to camp, and informs Indara of his discovery. Torbin overhears, and assumes, “Nightsisters?” Indara responds, “We do not have all the information.” But continues to say, “Besides, Nightsisters don’t raise younglings, let along raise them.” It’s funny how she says to not make assumptions, and then right away makes an assumption. The hypocrisy is telling.

- Sol tells Indara he’s scared for the safety of the twins. True, he does not have the full story either, and assumes the worst after seeing them being escorted away, being disciplined, and being prepared for a ceremony. He wonders if the girls will be “in danger”. Supposedly, Sol still has the best of intentions, but things sure look different than what we see happened in Ep3. He implores Indara to accompany him to the castle, and of course, Kelnacca and Torbin follow suit. Kelnacca jumps the controls, and the four Jedi walk in.

- A while later, they walk through a hallway, and into the plaza. They face the coven, introduce themselves, as we had seen in Ep3. Torbin experiences a vision, the surroundings around him change. In the vision, he stands alone, and we learn through Mother Anise’s voice, that he came from a poor family. Vision!Aniseya comes up from behind him, informing him that he might be trapped. She’s playing a mind trick on him, or at least, preying on his insecurities, his anxieties. She tells him he’s a “good Jedi” but states that he also has “natural desires you suppress”. (Which is what all Jedi (are supposed to) do.) Vision!Aniseya tells him that she can help him leave the planet, which lines up with how earlier he wanted to go home to Coruscant. She states this, but also tells him that Indara “denies” him that feeling. Which, from a certain point of view, is correct. She circles him while she speaks; this, to Torbin, is incredibly unsettling, and makes him feel like prey being circled by a predator. He stays silent, but states his earlier desire, that is, to return to Coruscant. Vision!Aniseya commands him to kneel, and Torbin’s body obeys, his eyes falling black. On the outside, Indara, Kelnacca, and Sol have no clue what happened. The Jedi leave.

- Back on the ship, Torbin sits, hunched over, processing what just happened to him. Sol tells Indara he feels a connection between him and Osha, but is informed Osha is “too old to join the Order”. (Yes, that was what described Anakin too.) He tells Indara again that he fears for Osha’s safety, and asks, “Who is protecting this child if not the Jedi?” It’s a pretty self-centered thought, but on the Jedi’s part, not necessarily on Sol’s part alone.

- The next day, Torbin meditates alone outside the ship. Mother Koril brings the twins, and Torbin brings Mae aboard the ship for the test. Obviously, Mae purposely flunks the test. Indara asks Mae what was going on last night, so Mae tells her, and upon prompting, says that the marking is part of the ceremony, and means that she and Osha would lead the coven (had Osha also been marked). Mae leaves, and Sol informs Indara what we already know: “Mae was instructed to fail.” He asks for permission to have a different, softer approach with Osha, and is granted the opportunity to do so.

- As we’ve seen before, be tells his story, getting to her heartstrings, telling her that she should be brave to speak her mind. She gets the answers right, of course.

- Indara runs the blood samples, and sends them to the Council for further deliberation. Later that evening, they gather at camp. Indara informs that the Council does not want the separation of the twins from their coven. After a little back and forth, Sol says he wants to do what’s best for Osha. (Might this have come from a genuine place of feeling, or is this what the Jedi always think, that they can just do what they think is right, regardless of what anyone else is thinking?)

- Torbin receives the test results, and is surprised that the twins have the “same symbionts”, because “even identical twins would have different symbionts”. Indara theorizes that there could be some form of manipulation enough “to split one consciousness into two bodies”. Torbin wants to go home so quickly, because he knows that the mission was simply to prove the existence of a vergence, and to him, the mission has done just that. Torbin speeds off alone.

- Elsewhere with Mae, she is being heralded to her room my Mother Koril, who says, “You want to stop Osha from leaving? Then stop her.” Though Mother Koril shoves Mae to the ground, the child is instructed to get mad. So she does.

- Outside, Sol instructs Torbin to not let the witches into his head again, and to follow him to get the girls.

- As we previously saw, Mae takes Osha’s book and locks her in her room, sets the book on fire, and drops the flaming book at the door. Mae, realizing the gravity of her actions, tries to stamp out the fire but watches in horror as the flames spread. She panics and calls for Mother Aniseya. (So it is Mae who started the fire and could not stop the spread.)

- It isn’t long before Sol and Torbin reach the plaza, and Sol asks where the twins come from, how they were created. Mother Aniseya deflects, by stating in no uncertain terms, “Someday, your ‘noble intentions’ will destroy every Jedi in the galaxy.” And from a certain point of view, this is or will be true.

- Mother Koril draws her staff, and Torbin ignites his saber. Mae has reached the plaza and is calling for help. Mother Aniseya seems to transform into a dark misty form, and Mae also partly starts to form into a mist too. Sol, spooked, draws his saber, and stabs the heart of the dark mist. Mother Aniseya reforms, and tells Sol that she was going to let Osha go anyway; and Sol is horrified by the murder he has just carried out.

- Mother Koril instructs Mae to run. By her room, Osha has seen the flames spread too much, and is about to escape. Mother Koril attacks Sol, but he does not draw his weapon.

- The flames have spread fast, and causes explosions elsewhere in the castle. Koril dissipates, and preys on Sol’s insecurities. Kelnacca seems to be standing there, saber lit. In this vision, however, Kelnacca attacks them. Perhaps it is that Mother Koril has infiltrated the mind of Kelnacca and this is not a vision. They continue to tussle, Sol on the losing end.

- Indara leaps to the rescue, using the Force to literally force out the witches from Kelnacca’s mind, and on this onslaught, the witches collapse elsewhere in the castle. Indara commands Sol to get the twins.

- Sol gets to the twins on the broken bridge and tries to hold both up, but strains to do so. Mae falls, unfortunately, so Sol leaps to catch Osha before she too falls.

- In hyperspace, Indara tells Kelnacca to tell the Council that they are returning home, and then turns to Torbin and reminds him, “I warned you not to interfere”. Was it his actions that has snowballed out of control? Indara also told Sol the same thing, but he just wanted the twins to be safe.

- Per Indara’s initial instruction per the Council’s decision, Osha and Mae were NOT to be separated from their family, but it seems Sol and Torbin did not heed directives and instead, followed their heart instead. Torbin asks what to tell the Council, Indara decides on the “truth”, that Mae burned the fortress. She specifically leaves out that she used the Force to indirectly kill the witches.

- We get to the point where Osha wakes and asks where she is and what happens; Sol tells her what happens.
