Without a question the greatest ODI inning EVER by any batsman. It was beautiful it was heartwarming it was miraculous it was impossible made possible!
Bow to Glenn Maxwell! Australia qualifying is unquestionably his doing and his doing only!

Use What You Have For God! Lessons from Maxwell and Moses!
Duke Jeyaraj And yet (after collapsing on the turf in the 41st over of the chase with victory still 55 runs away), Maxwell carried on. He hit five sixes and five fours thereafter, without so much as moving his feet and relying only on his hand-eye coordination to take Australia past a disbelieving Afghanistan (Cricbuzz after Aus Vs Afg ICC World Cup Game of 07 Nov 2023). Don’t say, “I am too…

Jos is any day a better T20 batsman than VK. VK has got more records, but the impact Jos has is unparalleled
HAHAHAHAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣
I'm sorry but
HAHAHAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣
I'm curious, what exactly is considered "impact"? How about being the highest run-scorer of 2 T20 World Cups? How about being the player of the tournament in consecutive T20 World Cups? Virat did that. You know what else he did? India played 6 knockout matches between 2014 and 2024. Virat has made a half century or more than that in 5 out of those 6 matches. That's just shy of 400 runs in 6 matches. It makes his average in T20 WC knockout matches over 90. If that's not impactful, I don't know what is.
Is impact related to strike rate? Virat scored 70 off 29 against West Indies, 94 in some 50 odd balls against WI, and his century against Afghanistan came in 52 balls. The first knock has a strike rate of over 200. Virat chased down 48 off the last 3 overs against Pakistan at the MCG in 2022 and 39 off the last 3 overs against Australia at Mohali in 2016. The latter was a virtual quarter final, and Virat's knock guaranteed India's progress to the semi finals.
Is impact related to hitting sixes? Well, for all that Jos is a renowned six-hitter, it was Virat's six against Haris Rauf at the MCG was declared the shot of the century by ICC. An equation that read 28 off 8 became 16 off 6. It was Virat who hit the two sixes that were required to get it down till here.
Virat has time and again won matches out of nowhere for India. The Mohali 82 against Australia, the MCG 82 against Pakistan, the 72 in 2014 SFs vs South Africa, I can go on and on here-- Heck, Virat was most of the, if not the sole reason that India got as far as they did in the 2014, 2016 and 2022 editions of the T20 World Cup. He is a massively impactful player, who delivers whenever needed. Even yesterday's final, take Virat's 76 out of the equation and we had only a 100 on the board to defend. I doubt even Jasprit could have done much with that.
Virat ended his career in T20s as unquestionably the best T20 player of this generation. Nobody comes close to having the kind of impact he does on the game. He carried India in almost every single T20 World Cup he played, and nobody deserved to lift that trophy as much as he did.
I did not intend this as an insult to Jos. He is a great player, one of the very best to have played the game, but he's not better than Virat. Nope, sorry, he isn't. And it isn't limited to Jos either. There isn't any player in the world, not Rohit, not Warner, not Babar, not Maxwell, no nobody in this generation comes close to having the kind of class, poise and impact of Kohli in T20s.
People are allowed differing opinions - sure, the stats say Virat but in terms of coming in when the team needs and changing the game momentum Jos is one of the best at having an impact
Numbers aren’t always everything, I think is the point the original ask was making. And honestly, looking at the tournament that just concluded, VK really only made an impact in the final, whilst Jos was a lynchpin to a lot of England’s batting innings.
Not saying you’re wrong and - as I said - everyone has opinions and it’s great they’re different because it allows us to discuss thing :) But I think the original ask was talking more about match impact than stats. There is a reason he was RR’s impact batsman for the IPL this year.

[ad_1] Cricket World Cup: A heated argument between David Warner And Rashid Khan.© AFPThe Afghanistan vs Australia Cricket World Cup match in Mumbai on Tuesday turned out to be a thriller. After Afghanistan scored a good 291-run total, Australia were off to a horrendous start as their famed batting order crumbled. They were reduced to 91/7 by 18.3 overs before Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins stitched a great stand and scored a 150-plus score. Glenn Maxwell battled through cramps and back spasms to slam one of the most heroic knocks ever. The match was also witness to a heated argument between Australia's David Warner And star Afghanistan bowler Rashid Khan. The two players were teammates at Indian Premier League franchise SunRisers Hyderabad.Warner furious over Rashid Khan ! #AUSvsAFG pic.twitter.com/zWURvTgnYx— kaushik (@BeingUk7) November 7, 2023Maxwell played what can be defined as the best ODI knock all all time, helping Australia bounce back from 91/7 to chase down the target of 292 and beat Afghanistan by seven wickets, sealing a spot in the semi-finals."It was hot while fielding today, I have not done a lot of exercise in the heat, it got a hold on me today. I wanted to stay back and get some movement (on my legs). Not too much (when asked about plans at 92/7), just stick to the batting plans as much as possible, for me, still be positive, still look to play my shots, that LBW, it was going just above (the stumps), probably that made me be more proactive. A hint of swing and nip (off the surface), as it happens here under lights, they bowled beautifully to exploit that."It would have been nice if it was a chanceless knock, but I had my chances, to make the most of it tonight was something I can be proud of. Amazing, after the first two games, people were quick to write us off. The belief was always there (as a team), after today, it would have gone a bit higher," said Maxwell in the post-match presentation.Topics mentioned in this article [ad_2] Source link

#713 HAT-TRICK of HAT-TRICKs Champion Nadal outclasses Thiem to grab his 18th slam and HISTORIC 12th French open; He is beyond LEGEND in clay; Thiem gave his heartout in beating Djokovic in SF but was out of gas in finals; Barty becomes first Australian to win French open since Margaret Court in 1973; Dhawan’s fine century and smart bowling by Bhuvi-Chahal helps India beat AUstralia in style; England regain winning momentum by beating Bangladesh; NZ beat Bangladesh too and more..:-)
Australia vs WI on paper was a cracking contest and it in reality it turned out that way too. WI pacers reduced Australia to 38-4. Cottrell especially was on fire. Smith and Stonis then consolidated innings for Australia before Holder dismissed the later. Australia 79-5. Smith played very cautiously. He found able partner in Carey as they took Australia par 100. Russell dismissed Carey against the run of play. Australia 147-6. WI had chance to dismiss Australia for under 200. But Coulter De Nile had completely other ideas. He hit 60 ball 92 which had 4 sixes and 8 fours. That and 73 by Smith took Australia to a commanding 288. Both players were dropped which made WI  feel more frustrated. There was huge drama in 2nd innings. Gayle was dismissed twice in an over by umpire. Gayle reviewed both and was declared not out. It was poor umpiring. Starc later dismissed Gayle for 21. WI 31-2. The ball before he was dismissed, Starc had bowled a huge noball which went unnoticed by umpire. Had it been given, the ball which Gayle was dismissed would have been a free hit. Poor then gave WI innings some impetus with his 36 ball 50. Hope was playing with composure. Zampa dismissed Pooran against the run of play. WI 99-3. Hetmyer and Hope then took WI past 100. It looked like they would take WI past 150 too but a silly runout cost Hetmyer. WI 149-4. Hope and Holder gave WI great hope of winning but wickets fell at key intervals. Russell was batting as if 40 was needed of 15 balls !! He played reckless shot to get out for 16. WI just needed 73 from 67 at that stage. Braithwaite did the same as well. 37 was needed from 28 when he hit a poor shot. Holder was dismissed soon after. Starc 5 fer helped Australia win the match by 15 runs. WI lost the match which they should have won with ease. They cant ODI match at T20 speed.
Lanka vs Pak match was washed out as they shared a point each. Massive 121 ball 153 by Roy and fifties by Bairstow and Butler pushed England target to 386. Though Shakib scored a good century , Bangladesh lost by 106 runs. Neesham 5-fer helped NZ dismiss Afghanistan for just 172.  Williamson’s 79 helped NZ beat Afghanistan by 7 wickets with close to 18 overs to spare.
In Big match of the weekend, India faced Australia in Oval. India won the toss and chose to bat. Rohit and Dhawan started cautiously before opening up. They saw off Starc’s first spell. Post that they attacked Stoinis and Zampa. They took India to 100 by end of 19th over. Both scored fifties. Against the run of play, Coulter-Nile dismissed Rohit for 57. India 127-1. Dhawan was in his zone by now. He was creaming some beautiful boundaries. Virat took time to get going. Dhawan was making up for it. They had 93 run stand before Dhawan was dismissed for a brilliant 117. This was his 6th century in ICC tournament and 3rd in ICC world cup. He always steps up in ICC tournaments. India sent Hardik ahead. He was dropped by Carey of first ball. He made Australia pay as he made 27 ball 48 which had 3 sixes and 4 fours. They had 81 run stand. Dhoni and Virat then went wild. Dhoni hit 27 of 14 balls which included six and a four of Starc. Some late hitting Rahul took India to 352. This was highest score by any team against Australia in world cup. Highest total chased in world cup has been 327 by Ireland. Australia had luck early on as Warner played on but bails didn’t come off. Finch was looking good but runs came very slowly as India bowled right lengths. Only 28 came of first 9 overs. They needed a big over. Pandya gave one with some poor bowling. 19 runs of 10th over. Against the run of play, Finch was runout by brilliant throw by Jadhav. Australia 61-1. Warner was just 21 from 43 balls at this stage. Smith started well and it helped Warner gain some momentum. He and Smith took Australia to 100. Warner scored 50 of 77 balls. Australia were placed at 105-1 by 21st over. Jadhav’s 16 run over gave Australia momentum. Australia 121-1 in 23 overs. Australia made move on from here. Runs started coming off freely. India were struggling to take wicket. India needed some magic. Virat’s goto bowler in middle overs has been Chahal. He dismissed Warner for 56. He scored that of 84 balls. That gave India some breather. Australia 133-2. When run rate was just par 5, Australia should have sent Maxwell in but Khawaja came in.  Though these 2 had another 50 stand, it took 59 balls to reach there. Virat was playing his cards well. He completed Pandya’s spell in the meantime so that Australia will have the pressure to go at Bhuvi-Bumrah combo later. Australia required 166 of last 90 balls. They needed a big over. Khawaja hit Kuldeep for a six and a four to put some pressure on Virat. He hit 14 runs of 36th over.  Khawaja made room to hit Bumrah but played onto stumps. Australia 202-3. Maxwell came hit a boundary of first ball he faced. He showed intent which was missing in Australian innings till this points. Australia needed 146 runs of last 78 balls. They needed few big overs. Maxwell hit another boundary of 3rd  and 4th ball ball he faced. He raced to 21 runs of 9 balls. Australia needed 118 runs of 66 balls. India needed wickets badly. Bhuvi trapped Smith plumb in front with a slower delivery for 69. Australia 238-4.  Stoinis joined Maxwell.  2 balls later, Bhuvi castled Stoinis with an in cutter. Australia 238-5. Australia needed 115 runs of 60 balls.  Virat had kept 2 overs of Chahal for Maxwell. He dismissed Maxwell when the Australian star tried to slog. He was trying to hit almost every ball like Russell did. Slow innings by Warner and Smith had started having an impact. Australia needed 106 runs of last 9 overs with only 4 wickets left.  It came down to 97 of last 8 overs. Carey hit a few lusty blows of Chahal’s final over. 14 came of that over.  Pandya bowled 44th  over. He gave away 9 runs. Australia needed 75 from last 6 overs. Bumrah and Bhuvi had 3 each. Carey had raced to 31 of 14 balls. He hit a boundary of 2nd ball of Bumrah’s over. He was keeping Australia well within grasp of winning it. He had to bat till the end though. Bumrah dismissed Coulter with a slower delivery. Australia 283-7. Australia needed 70 of last 5 overs. Carey stood between India and a fine victory. Though Carey made world cup’s fastest fifty (of 25 balls), India won by 36 runs . Bhuvi and Chahal have been India’s best bowlers today. India had last beaten Australia in world cup league game was in 1987 in Delhi. India had made 289 then and won by 56 runs.
In 39th match of their career, Nadal took early 3-1 lead over Federer. Swiss champion broke back immediately with some aggressive brand of tennis. But Nadal broke back immediately Nadal won the set 6-3. Federer took early 2-0 lead in 2nd set. But Nadal levelled back again and went onto win the set 6—4. That took the gas of Nadal as he won final set 6-2 with ease. He has beaten Federer for the first time since 2014 Australian open SF. In other SF, Djokovic was undone by huge breeze and blistering playing conditions. He couldn’t time the ball well. He lost the first set 6-2. Thiem had chance to break early in 2nd set but Djokovic held his nerve. He later took 3-1 lead when rain stopped play. Post resumption, he won the 2nd set 6-3. Thiem took 4-2 lead in 3rd set before Serbian great broke back. Thiem single handed backhand helped him control the ball better in breezy conditions. Djokovic struggled with double handed backhand in this breeze conditions. Thiem broke Djokovic again to win the 3rd set 7-5. It looked like Thiem would win in 4 sets but Djokovic levelled the match by winning it 7-5. Thiem took 4-1 lead in final set but Djokovic broke back to level the match. It looked like he would take control and win the match but Thiem broke Djokovic in 12th game to win the set 7-5 and the match. This has been great to see Thiem hold his nerve on big stage. He has reached SF twice and finals twice in last 4 years. Can he go one up and beat Nadal in finals? That would definitely  be start of new era !! In finals, Thiem started off brilliantly. He even unsettled Nadal’s serves to move ahead 3-2. Nadal fought back like a champion to level the set and won next 3 games to win it. In 7th game, Thiem had his chances but Nadal held nerve in a 100 odd minute game. That took steam of Thiem. He was tired after playing long SF. He kept his nerve in 2nd set. He could find any inroads in Nadal’s serve early on but his serve game was getting better. In 12th game, Thiem showed class in breaking Nadal. Match was on. Thiem had to start 3rd set well but he won only 1 of first 13 points as Nadal took double break. He zoomed ahead to win it 6-1. He won first 2 games of 4th set too.  Thiem had chance to break back in 3rd game but Nadal showed his class once again. That was literally end of Thiem’s resistance.  Nadal had break points in 4th game to make it 4-0 but Thiem finally found some touch back to hold serve. Nadal eventually won it 6-1. This was Nadal’s 18th slam and 12th French open. He has completed hat-trick of hat-tricks in French open (won 3 times French open consecutively 3 times ). What a legend !!! In sport , facing Nadal in French open in best of 5 sets should the most difficult hurdle to cross.  If there is a record which might never be broken, Nadal’s tally of 12 wins in French open could be at the top of the list.  If there is one player who deserves to win a slam in current gen it is Thiem in French open. He has been exceptional this week and should augur well for the future.  In ladies finals, Australia’s Barty outclassed Vondrousova 6-1 6-3 to win maiden slam. She became first Australian winner in French open since Maragret Court in 1973.
