The Original Masters of the Universe Commercial
How did I not know this existed until now? I saw the documentary on the making of the line, I have a coffee table book on the toys' creation, and yet I just learned about this today!

I remember the PR push for this, and then it just...vanished. I really really wanted one to go with my Totally Hair Barbie.
I've known for a long time that he reads early 90s gay, but I didn't realize WHY. OMG. What a fucking wonderful gay disaster.
Although, Min, my sympathies that your friends stopped you. That is a tragedy.

ok this is “earring magic ken” who was introduced in 1992 (and discontinued shortly thereafter)
basically mattel had done a survey and discovered that girls didn’t think ken was “cool” enough
SO someone had the bright idea to research coolness by sending people to raves which, at the time, were mostly hosted & attended by gay men. so they went to these raves and took notes on what the fashions were and finally landed on this outfit, mesh shirt & all
this doll became the best selling ken doll in history, mostly because gay men bought it in droves. (many of them said his necklace was supposed to be a cockring) but mattel and a number of parents weren’t very amused and discontinued the doll

Yes yes us exactly this!!!
As someone who is and has always been incredibly intelligent (super genuis levels💕💗🌸🧚‍♀️💖😻😀🥰😍) and incredibly feminine and pink AND POSITIVE it's exciting and a bit surreal to have representation and recognition !!!!! 💖 😻💕💗🌸🧚‍♀️😍🥰😀
I hope it's really amazing
Barbie is THE EMPOWERING FEMININE INTELLIGENT ROLE MODEL 🎀💖💅🏻 🕶
She always has been
I've actually academically written this about this too - I just realised hehe - she's always been the best 💕💖💕💗💕🎀💅🏻🌸🧚‍♀️💖👌🏻 🥰💖💗😻💕💕💕💅🏻
She is part of my dna because she is a VALIDATING ROLE MODEL of what I already am and love
The CELEBRATION, RECOGNITION, ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND UPLIFTING OF THE FEMINININE AND FEMININITY IS FEMINISM
Not the denial and suppression of it.
thus obviously also applies to and is disney princesses but were talking about Barbie right now and she very rarely gets this type of media attention or recognition
her tagline has literally always been YOU CAN BE ANYTHING 💖🧚‍♀️🌸💅🏻🎀💕💗😻🥰😍😀👧🏻🎀💕🌸🧚‍♀️💖💅🏻💗😻💕
Empowering validating role model for all little girls and all of female-kind - YES
Zzzzz
Xxxx
{I don't really want to mention it because I find it so incredibly offensive and it offended and upset me greatly as a child- and still does - when I saw it - but the Simpson's championed FAKE FEMINISM THROUGH LISA in the Mattell episode. They had barbie and the Matell company do and support things like have a pull string with bullshit such as "let's make cookies so the boys will like us" but that has literally NEVER BERN BARBIE, WHAT HER CULTURAL ROLE IS OR WHAT SHE HAS DONE AND REPRESENTED EVER and it was intentionally destructive defamation of feminine power, identity and real acknowledgement, recognition and validation in the one place that it was popular and positive and powerful, and had a place in our culture - with Barbie.
Barbie , and girls, contrary to self entitled self congratulatory misogynists beleif, ARE NOT THINKING ABOUT AND NOT CONCERNED WITH BOYS.
WE DONT CARE. WE DON'T THINK ABOUT YOU. WE NEVER HAVE. THAT'S JUST IN MEDIA THAT YOU WRITE FOR YOURSELVES BUT IT'S NEVER BEEN TRUE.
Our identity and life is not "thinking about boys" bullshit. It never has been.
We've got infinite things we like and infinite things we do and infinite things we enjoy that have nothing to do with you. They're not for you. They're just for us
Leave us alone
So don't anyone try to tell me that "oh but the Simpson's I'd actually intelligent " - no, it's not. For your low and uncritical mind intellect level maybe, but in academic circles - and general common sense - it's Obviously Not.
