Jo Ellis, a helicopter pilot in the Virginia Army National Guard, filed a lawsuit Wednesday against right-wing influencer Matt Wallace, saying he “concocted a destructive and irresponsible defamation campaign” when he falsely identified her as the pilot in a deadly crash in January. The lawsuit from Ellis, who is transgender, seeks monetary damages from Wallace for spreading a lie to his millions of followers that Ellis was flying the Black Hawk helicopter that collided with a passenger jet above the Potomac River in January, killing all 67 people aboard both aircrafts. “In the wake of this horrible tragedy, [Wallace] decided to exploit this devastation for clicks and money,” the lawsuit said, accusing him of capitalizing on the right-wing outrage fueled by President Donald Trump’s blaming of diversity, equity and inclusion hiring practices for the crash. “[A] transgender Black Hawk pilot seemed like the perfect target,” the lawsuit asserts, saying he went on to make several transphobic attacks on her. Wallace “used his prominent X platform to monetize a false narrative that [Ellis] was not only one of the Army pilots involved in the mid-air collision, but also that she engaged in ‘another trans terror attack’ and intentionally caused the mid-air collision due to her ’depression’ and ‘Gender Dysphoria,’” the lawsuit, which was filed in U.S. District Court in Colorado, states. Ellis’ lawsuit was filed on her behalf by the Equality Legal Action Fund, which is made up largely of volunteer lawyers representing LGBTQ+ people in defamation and harassment lawsuits.

Are musicians even allowed to surprise us after achieving their big successes. Well, some do that. I mean, check Faith No More. They followed up their mainstream breakthrough with Angel Dust and … I do understand why the label had some problems, but let us be honest – they did remain within their wheelhouse in a way. I'm not disparaging them, I think they remain one of the more intriguing alternative rock bands, but the members of the group are braver outside the brand of Faith No More. Then again, they do stretch their style more than a majority of their peers and, yes, them bringing all of their lunacy into Faith No More might be too much. However, they could still try to, because the group was rarely settled into a sound.

This took me a long time to make! I created map showing the path of destruction of Hurricane Helene with an overlay of the 2020 election results… The storm seemed to almost methodically miss the bluest parts of those crucial swing states, while simultaneously ravaging the red parts. What a crazy coincidence! There were a few notable exceptions, like Ashville (which is about 60% blue), but besides that, the larger blue cities seemed to almost all get “lucky” together. If I was a conspiracy theorist, I might assume that this is a big part of the reason why Biden and Kamala are still prioritizing aid to illegals over aid to citizens impacted by the storm. I would also wonder if it was all be design.

Wallace AND Marjorie Taylor Greene apparently believe that Biden's government is so technologically advanced that they can manufacture a hurricane and "guide" it to swerve and miss "blue" regions in certain states, while hitting mostly the "red" regions.

Just like they assumed the Democrats could manipulate the 2020 election in Republican districts, under a Republican president, to somehow make it look like Biden won--while somehow mysteriously choosing not to change the votes of anyone down ballot. 🙄

The GOP penchant for illogical conspiracy theories that don't take into account what is actually scientifically possible is adding to the nation's stockpile of ignorant beliefs.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) pushed an unhinged conspiracy theory about Hurricane Helene on Thursday as a large swath of the southeastern U.S. still struggles to recover from the storm’s devastating floods, with residents desperately searching for missing loved ones and mourning the 215 people killed.

“Yes, they can control the weather,” Greene wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, Thursday evening. “It’s ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can’t be done.”

To be quite honest, I have noticed that many players who had their share of these fluke successes actually persevere more often than one would have possibly assumed. Spin Doctors, for instance, also shock me by still going on. I mean, look, every musician that had some surprising hits can still sell some venues. Of course, they cannot get those they had during their successes, yet they can get smaller ones. However, they also need to show they continue to record. However, one thing must be mentioned – the platters of those with fluke hits in their pasts rarely hit an acclaim they could've deserved. I mean, the consequent by Spin Doctors might not reach their heyday, though they're fine. Then again, how many of those who dismiss them followed their career after their chartclimbers?
