Dieser gefiel ihm dann auch so ausnehmend gut, dass er ihn tags darauf wiederholen wollte. Dieses Mal aber bewegte sich die Schlange nicht mehr so behände wie tags zuvor, sondern bewegte sich nur langsam und leicht schwankend vorwärts, weshalb der Froschkönig sie fragte: »Warum gehst du heute so schläfrig deines Weges?« »Weil ich matt und schwach bin«, erwiderte die Schlange, »vor so vielem Hunger.« »Dem ist doch leicht abzuhelfen«, sagte der Froschkönig, »verspeise doch einige Frösche!« Das lies sich die Schlange nicht zweimal sagen und befolgte ungesäumt den Rat des Froschkönigs. Und es dauerte nicht lange, bis dass der Teich von allen Fröschen leer war. Der Froschkönig verschwand zuletzt im Magen der Schlange.
