the character graveyard — a creator's lament
a wall of snow keeps you hidden, it's true.
my hands tainted. I buried you all myself.
some of you live, just barely, breathing through a straw in your graves. an illusion of existence.
some of you never had the chance. your lives extinguished before you could fully form.
massacre.
your god has not forsaken you, I plead.
though I am god and she is merciless. by circumstance, not design.
I come to acknowledge you. you forgotten ones, the ones I hid, the ones who died by my hand and the ones who fizzled from existence before I could reach them. I gather you here today. to recognise you. mourn you. immortalise you.
I raise my chalice to each of you.
here's to the faceless ones. the ones I never named. the ones who had nothing but a name. a vibe. a role. a disembodied something. you hadn't enough love or care. I'm sorry.
here's to the fleeting ones. ones who existed in passing. to assist another's narrative. to enhance the world.

It brings us together: Memorial run honours Monctons fallen Mounties
The daughter of Cst. Douglas Larche got the annual Three Fathers Memorial Run off to an emotional start Sunday by singing the national anthem.
Hundreds of participants joined the Larche family in the rain at Moncton’s Riverfront Park to honour their late father and husband and to remember RCMP constables Fabrice Gevaudan and Dave Ross as well.
The three fathers were shot and killed in Moncton on June 4, 2014.
Nadine Larche, deeply moved by her daughter’s performance, spoke about the significance of the day after the run.
“The girls were nine, eight and four when we first started in 2014 and now they're 18, 17 and 13. To see them grow up over the years, to be here every year, it's such a special moment for all of us,” said Larche. “It gives us a place to be on Father's Day. It brings us together. It's something to do on Father's Day which is a hard day for us.”
Retired RCMP Cst. Christy Elliott said after the tragedy, people in the community wondered what they could do to support the families of the three fallen Mounties and how to get together as a community to support the families.
"A lot of people in the running community said, ‘Let's put a run together.’ So just a few days after June 4, we came together as a group and decided to put together a run on Father's Day really to give the wives and families of our three fallen members something to do on Father's Day. Somewhere to go and feel supported by the community,” said Elliott.
Mia Larche said it’s a big day for her family.
“I just really love to come here on Father's Day. It's a little bit of a hard day,” said Mia Larche. “It's really heavy this year that I knew him the same amount of time I was alive actually, because I was nine when it happened. It's really nice to see the whole community come together and support us and support each other.”
Sgt. Mathieu Roy and his wife Cst. Karine Denis-Godin of the Codiac Regional RCMP bring their children every year.
“The three fathers were friends of ours and it affected us greatly and it's our way of remembering them,” said Roy.
Denis-Godin said they were both there on June 4.
“After, we saw the whole community come toge
ther. It's an annual thing for us and it's important for us to come as a community to remember the boys,” said Denis-Godin.
The SkyHawks parachute team was supposed to m
ake a jump during Sunday’s run, but the poor weather kept that from happening.
The team did attend however, and paid their respects at the riverfront memorial honouring Larce, Ross and Gevaudan.
Some members of the CF Snowbirds team participated in the run.
Snowbirds spokesperson Cpt. Gabriel Ferris said the RCMP is like a close family to them.
“We understand what is to lose a member in the action of duty. It's important for us to show solidarity with the run this morning and participate,” said Ferris.
Some of the CF Snowbirds team participated in the run, as did members of the Codiac Regional RCMP, some of whom served with the three fathers.
Funds raised for the run and from sponsors go to scholarships for the six high schools in the Greater Moncton area served by the Codiac RCMP.

a couple little details for this fic:
the specific town in cape cod where c!clingy live is wellfleet! here’s a few images to get the feel of the area (all from google since i don’t have any pics personallyđŸ„Č)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
as i mentioned in the fic, c!tommy takes up painting as a hobby :D kind of just a thing i threw in there as an idea i had that interested me, but also because how prevalent paintings are in the cape– you walk into any little shop and you’ll probably find those small paintings LOL. i imagined tommy’s style to be similar to artist christine mathieu 👍👍
so about nantucket; i actually went there for the first time months ago, and i absolutely loved it TWO GIRLS WERE BLASTING & SINGING ALONG TO RED WINE SUPERNOVA IN THEIR CAR !!!!! anyways if you’re staying in cape cod and go to nantucket for the day or a few days, chances are you’ll be taking the ferry from either harwich or hyannis. went with the harwich one here since that’s closer to wellfleet!
really really loved writing this (even if i probably could’ve finished it much sooner lmao) and i’m glad it was an opportunity to yap about both cape cod & c!clingyđŸ«¶đŸ«¶
It was on days like that when he wondered when he’d finally stop being surprised that things could, in fact, just be good for once. No ulterior motive, no fingers crossed behind anybody’s back, no strings attached in any way. Something just good for the sake of being good.
“That just feels impossible, doesn’t it?” Tommy muttered to himself, huffing out a halfhearted laugh.
—
or, c!tommy reflects on his new life in cape cod with c!tubbo. (for the your cubito your culture 2024 event!!)

In the present context, economic consequences [of the lockdown] on food are expected from two mechanisms. The first and most dangerous one is for all households losing their source of income. With little savings, those households who belong to the poorest segments of society are the first affected by the situation, among which the daily-wage earners, and more especially urban migrants, who are often left without any resource or even shelter. A second expected effect will affect all segments of society: the chain of food supply may not sustain itself. Some shopkeepers fear to open their shops, and street hawkers are not allowed to sell their stock. [link] Mobility has been severely hampered and hence food procurement is disrupted. On the production side, the lack of mobility of agricultural labourers endangers the harvest. Therefore difficulties in the supply of provisions may create food shortages and already increase food prices, against which the government now intervenes to set up price caps on necessary items. Locarno70
Tumblr media
Locarno is a dream territory for every cinephile. Not only does the festival have two key competitions revolving around the present and the future, the iconic leopard is always keeping a watchful eye on the past. Yet, the past in cinema is never passé but rather a treasure map, and so we will follow our new Canadian contributor Justine Smith as she reads this map for us...
In 1946, the inaugural Locarno Film Festival was launched at the Grand Hotel with a screening of Giacomo Gentilomo's film O SOLE MIO from that same year. Since its earliest days, Locarno has devoted itself to a risky and political cinema, preferring to highlight new filmmakers from new regions than to reaffirm the status quo. Part of that legacy has been the celebration of filmmakers of the past through their retrospectives, as they have highlighted lost, forgotten, and under-appreciated directors.
For the 2017 edition of the festival, also the 70th anniversary of Locarno, the festival focused its main retrospective programming on French filmmaker Jacques Tourneur curated by Roberto Turigliatto and Rinaldo Censi. As always, the festival similarly paid homage to notable figures in front of and behind the camera, including Jean-Marie Straub, Mathieu Kassovitz, Michel Merkt, and JosĂ© Luis Alcaine. In celebration of the festival’s 70th year, the organizers also took the opportunity to look back at some of the highlights of the past seventy years – devoting the Histoire(s) du cinĂ©ma: Locarno70 sidebar to Locarno’s history of discovering new voices.
As one of Europe’s major film festivals, Locarno stands out by focusing its programming on emerging and political filmmakers. Beyond the grandeur of the Piazza Grande, where Hollywood films and crowd-pleasing auteurs wow audiences, the selection is systematically challenging and boundary-pushing. The way these retrospectives function within the wider confines of the festival’s identity is worth a closer examination. While the Tourneur line-up, which is rich and spans an often overlooked career, needs special attention, perhaps the most interesting retrospective of the 2017 edition of Locarno is the focus on the festival’s own history. Indeed, as one of the three oldest film festivals in Europe, Locarno occupies a unique space to reflect and redefine its signature identity. But how exactly do they do that?
Comprising of eleven films, this profile on the festival’s history crosses over five decades and spans four continents. The selection of just eleven titles, as a means of exploring and reflecting on 70 years seems like an astronomical task, and in doing so, the festival seeks to establish its legacy on its own terms. As Carlo Chatrian, the festival’s Artistic Director, explains in the programme notes, “Locarno has always been a place for breaking with the past or turning the present upside down.” The final selection of Histoire(s) du cinĂ©ma: Locarno70 films includes Marco Ferreri and Isidoro M. Ferry's THE LITTLE APARTMENT / EL PISITO (1958), Éric Rohmer's THE SIGN OF LEO / LE SIGNE DU LION (1962), Adolfas Mekas's HALLELUJAH THE HILLS (1963), RaĂșl Ruiz's THREE SAD TIGERS / TRES TRISTES TIGRES (1968), Chadi Abdel Salam's THE NIGHT OF COUNTING THE YEARS / AL-MOMIA (1969), Villi Hermann's SAN GOTTARDO (1977), Aleksandr Sokurov's THE LONELY VOICE OF MAN / ODINOKIY GOLOS CHELOVEKA (1987), Catherine Breillat's 36 FILLETTE (1988), Michael Haneke's THE SEVENTH CONTINENT / DER SIEBENTE KONTINENT (1989), Todd Haynes' POISON (1991), Alina Marazzi's FOR ONE MORE HOUR WITH YOU / UN'ORA SOLA TI VORREI (2002).
There is something almost teasing about this statement, which feels post-modern in its unfixed view of time and identity. The past and the present do not exist in a fixed reality but are malleable as they shift and change through new perspectives and experiences. This reflection on the past highlights integral moments from film history, like the French New Wave and the rise of American independent cinema. More importantly, though, this selection of films opens up a conversation between past and present, reflecting on the nature of time itself.
For example, in 1969, RaĂșl Ruiz’s TRES TRISTE TIGRE was in competition at Locarno and won the Pardo d'oro prize. This film was the filmmaker's first feature and examined the underground world of Chile during the 1960s. Groundbreaking during its release, in 1989 Caryn James reflected on this debut, as a retrospective of Ruiz’s work was mounted in New York City, saying, “the film's restless hand-held camera movement and its hemmed-in atmosphere of Santiago's small-time underworld seemed as fresh when it appeared in Latin America as the New Wave had in France a decade before.” Perhaps no title from Locarno70's retrospective has a more interesting conversation with the present, as it is the only film whose director took part in this year’s competition, with THE WANDERING SOAP OPERA / LA TELENOVELA ERRANTE (1990/2017). This should raise eyebrows of those who are aware that Ruiz died in 2011 – in fact, the film was shot all the way back in 1990. It is only recently that Ruiz’s long-time editor and wife, Valeria Sarmiento, assembled the film for its Locarno world premiere.
While it is not unusual that previously unfinished films are released posthumously at major festivals, it is almost unheard of that they should run in major competition, in particular for a festival that prides itself on the showcasing cinema of the future. This decision is iconoclastic and challenging to audiences, and likely the jury as well. While after all the film did not walk away with an award, it garnered well-earned praise. The feature, which is inspired by soap operas, tackles the Chilean identity right at the edge of a transitionary moment – just one year before Pinochet has been ousted from office. The film is broken up into seven days, seven different parts with their own contained narrative (even if some are more theme-driven). Among the best ones are those that poke fun at radical politics, such as one where two activists in a car are shot by two activists, who are shot by two activists, who are shot by two activists, etc. Though generally appealing, THE WANDERING SOAP OPERA would certainly attract a niche audience in that Chilean viewers will walk away with a greater understanding and appreciation of the film’s nuances and allusions that an average viewer with only a basic knowledge of Chilean politics and culture.
Among the other filmmakers who were featured in both the retrospective and this year’s programming is Todd Haynes. He returned to the festival with WONDERSTRUCK (2017), a film that has already earned mixed praises at other festivals, yet his first feature, POISON, was screened to an almost packed house at the newly revamped GranRex and presented by the filmmaker. Todd Haynes’ introduction of his full-length debut articulated how our relationships with films can be transformed by time. Made in 1991, POISON was a tryptic exploration of homosexuality at the height of the AIDS crisis. Inspired by the poetry of Jean Genet, the film examines through three different narratives about a sense of loss within the gay community in the face of violence and disease. The director's reflection on his own debut was centered as much on the experience of loss he now associates with the film, as with the production itself.
Before the screening, Haynes listed the many collaborators who died since the film’s production, including his long-time editor James Lyons. POISON is, in many ways, an angry film addressing the gay community’s culpability in violence against each other, as well as the disastrous implication of AIDS. That rage has not been dispelled in a rewatching of the film, if anything, is heightened by the sheer scope the AIDS crisis has had on young, gay men. Within the scope of a current political climate, where a renewed AIDS crisis has hit areas of the United States such as Indiana, the film has continued and horrified resonance in our modern-day.
Still, not all the Histoire(s) du cinĂ©ma picks had such overt connections from the past to the present. In fact, one film felt so out of time that it seems a small miracle it was even made at all. Restored several years ago, THE NIGHT OF COUNTING THE YEARS is considered the greatest Egyptian film of all time but is still rarely screened, so of the many discoveries of this year’s festival, this may be among the brightest. Set in 1881, the film reflects on the true incidents of an isolated Egyptian tribe who have relied for centuries on a cache of Pharaohic mummies to make their fortune. After the death of a family patriarch, members of the tribe become greedy, selling off more than they should, and drawing attention to the authorities.
THE NIGHT OF COUNTING THE YEARS examines the cost of identity, tackling the question of what it means to be Egyptian in the modern world. The film feels infused by the dusty desert air, the characters and their homes coated in the past, their past, that they are willing to sell off to the highest bidder. With bright infusions of color, such as fuchsia flower petals laid upon a gravesite, the film has a mythical atmosphere: one in which the living can return from the dead. Looking towards the past, the lack of canonical power of THE NIGHT OF COUNTING THE YEARS is a reflection on the westernized perspective of great art. Cinema of the Middle East and Africa is often relegated to a second-class status as the values and questions addressing cultures and people unlike the European powers, have been deemed, consciously or not, as less worthy. While the vast majority of Locarno’s retrospective on its history has maintained a Western point of view, the presence of THE NIGHT OF COUNTING THE YEARS justifies apprehensions and questions related to the cinematic canon, which privileges certain voices and points of view over others.
One of the greatest joys of a festival like Locarno is that it is a place not only for discovery but doubt. In my two experiences at the festival, debates over merit are quickly overturned in favor of debate over the politics of cinema. The retrospectives, in particular, can serve as an important measure for current dominant perspective on film history and how we conceive important and new cinema.
If you are a film industry professional, you can watch films from Locarno FF on Festival Scope.

Bac Nord streaming film français 2021 Complet VF
Bac Nord Regarder Film - https://bac-nord-vf.blogspot.com/

The all-new fragrances are a homage to the brand’s iconic past while also building a connection with the younger generation. It is about embracing all types of beauty and showing that anyone can ‘Make the Cover’ not just the traditional archetypes, all it takes is confidence and self-esteem.
The brand’s future is built on its legendary past, while also embracing this new modern attitude. To help bring this global campaign to life Sid Lee Paris worked with British director and photographer Nadia Lee Cohen, who has worked on music video clips for A$AP Rocky and Kali Uchis, to deliver a 1-min film and several print images. Her creations showcase the legacy of the Playboy brand while highlighting the new attitude, style and inclusiveness of Make the Cover fragrances.
Shot in LA, Cohen brings her signature style to the film, giving it a retro feel, while the spot’s diverse cast illustrates inhibition, seduction, rebellion, and exploration that drive self-expression. Primarily featuring non-actors and personalities from a wide-range of industries such as Richie Shazam, Erik Bragg, Sara Cummings and Victoria Jancke, the film delivers an authentic feeling, free from conventions that shows off a diverse group, all united by the attitude it takes to ‘Make the Cover’.

Evolution (2015)
Tumblr media
Directed by Lucile HadĆŸihalilović
Screenplay by Lucile HadĆŸihalilović and Alante Kavaite
Music by ZacarĂas M. de la Riva
Country: France, Spain, Belgium
Running Time: 81 minutes
CAST
Max Brebant as Nicolas
Roxane Duran as Stella
Julie-Marie Parmentier as Mother
Nissim Renard as Frank
Mathieu Goldfeld as Victor
Pablo-NoĂ© Étienne as Lucas
Tumblr media
Here’s a movie which nicely illustrates the difference between an artist and a mere lump of flesh like myself. Both Lucile HadĆŸihalilović and I have had our appendix out, but while I merely read The Brothers Sisters, and talked blissed out crap thanks to the morphine, Lucile HadĆŸihalilović was inspired to make this weird beauty of a movie. Admittedly Lucile HadĆŸihalilović’s appendectomy was during her childhood when the imagination is at its most ravenous, and mine was in early middle-age when imagination seems far too much like hard work; but, still, Lucile HadĆŸihalilović has fashioned a memory into this serenely paced, multifaceted gem of a nightmare and, me? I’ve written this crap. Game, set and match to Lucile HadĆŸihalilović. Evolution is the business, in short.
Tumblr media
Evolution is slow, and fittingly so is Evolution. It leisurely reveals its secrets to both the audience and its protagonist, Nicolas (Max Brebant), alike. There is a crucial difference though; Nicolas is a child and the viewer (in all probability) isn’t. For Nicolas the fact that the world he inhabits is composed of mystery upon mystery is something to be unthinkingly accepted; for children the world is mystery. As is the world of adults; but adults live in denial of this fact while children just swim with it. But Nicolas’ world is not the normal world and so ultimately he is driven to seek answers. Answers which will not care that he is a child, and so will not temper their truths accordingly. Evolution is slow but Nicolas’ personal evolution will be far faster than he might like.
Tumblr media
It all starts off sedately enough, Nicolas and Mother (Julie-Marie Parmentier) live in a dull village, probably in the Mediterranean; swimming, sleeping and eating an unappetising grey mush. The village is inhabited by Mothers and sickly children. It is a soporifically lulling life; a life lived in silent, whitewashed houses. There is barely any furniture and there are no fathers; there are no men at all. And precious little affection. The catalyst for Nicolas’ change comes when he finds the corpse of a child on the seabed, with a red starfish affixed to the body. His Mother dives down and returns only with the starfish, claiming there was no child.  But at night she brings the body ashore and all the Mothers gather round it. Occasionally Nicolas and his ailing friends are taken to a decaying hospital where they are operated upon and observed by the detached female staff. At night these nurses gather to impassively watch videos of Cesarean sections. One nurse, Stella (Roxane Duran), is drawn to Nicolas through his curious sketches of things that don’t exist on the island: a car, a Ferris wheel, a giraffe, etc. The slow accumulation of secrets threatens to suffocate Nicolas and he scrabbles for answers and ultimately perhaps, with Stella’s aid, escape.
Tumblr media
Beautifully shot and paced to enrage the attention deficient, Evolution is a wondrous glimpse into a world of dark marvels. Minutes of screen time are spent gazing at the undulating fronds of sea life, the ripple and swell of seawater, of blank faces hypnotised by the cathode ray; of things, in short, taken for granted as simple, but which reveal a hypnotic complexity under prolonged exposure. Everything in Evolution looks simple, but none of it is. Much like the world. Evolution is creepy, puzzling and immaculately conceived. Evolution successfully makes you feel like a child again; lost, fearful and helpless. But, crucially, not hopeless. No, not hopeless.

WOMEN’S HISTORY † JEHANNE DE DAMMARTIN (c. 1220 – 16 March 1279)
Jehanne de Dammartin was the eldest of the four daughters of Simon de Dammartin, comte d’Aumale and Marie, comtesse de Ponthieu, daughter of Guillaume IV de Ponthieu and Alix de France, comtesse du Vexin. Her parents’ marriage had been arranged by Philippe II de France as Simon was the younger brother of Philippe’s childhood friend, Renaud de Dammartin, who had also abducted Ide, comtesse de Boulogne with the king’s consent. In 1214, however, her father and uncle had abandoned Philippe to ally themselves with John I of England where they fought against him at the Battle of Bouvines. After the defeat of John’s army, Renaud was imprisoned and Simon was exiled. After Philippe’s death, Simon was allowed to return by Louis VIII under the condition that he not enter Ponthieu or negotiate the marriage of his daughters without royal permission. Nevertheless, in 1234, Simon secretly negotiated that Jehanne would marry Henry III of England, the eldest son of John Lackland and Isabelle d’AngoulĂȘme. Louis VIII’s widow, Blanca de Castilla, who was acting as regent in the time of her son, Louis IX, caught word of this plan and told Simon that he would be stripped of all his lands if he allowed the marriage of Jehanne to Henry and petitioned the Pope to block the marriage on the grounds of consanguinity. Henry agreed to abandon the plan and instead married AlienĂČr de Provença. Meanwhile, it was instead arranged that Jehanne would marry Fernando III de Castilla, the son of Blanca’s sister, Berenguela de Castilla and widower of Elisabeth von Schwaben. Jehanne and Fernando married in October of 1237 and they had four sons, two of whom died young, and a daughter. Little is known about Jehanne’s tenure as queen of Castilla and Leon other than that she accompanied Fernando during his siege of Seville in 1248. Her mother, Marie, died in 1251 and Jehanne succeeded her as the comtesse de Ponthieu. Fernando died 30 May 1252 and was succeeded by his eldest surviving son by his first wife, Alfonso X. Before his death, Fernando had asserted a claim to Gascony as the great-grandson of Eleanor of England and Alfonso also retained that claim. In the end, the matter was resolved when it was arranged that Jehanne’s only daughter, Leonor de Castilla, would marry Henry III’s eldest son and heir, the future Edward I, on 1 November 1254. Jehanne had a tense relationship with her stepson, Alfonso, and allied with another stepson, Enrique, which led to Jehanne and her eldest son, Fernando, leaving Spain entirely to take up residence in Ponthieu. At some point before 9 February 1261, Jehanne remarried to Jehan de Nesle, seigneur de Falvy. Her cousin, Mathilde de Dammartin, died in January 1259 with her two children having pre-deceased her, so the title of comtesse d’Aumale passed to Jehanne. Jehanne also asserted a claim to Boulogne, but that instead went to Adelheid van Brabant, daughter of Hendrik I van Brabant and Mathilde de Boulogne, the younger of the two daughters of Mathieu d’Alsace and Marie Ire de Boulogne. Jehanne’s rule as comtesse de Ponthieu was marked mostly by lavish spending and little attention to her political duties. Between 1274 and 1278, she looked after her granddaughter, Joan of Acre.
Jehanne died 16 March 1279 and disputes arose. Her daughter, Leonor and grandson, Jehan de Ponthieu, both claimed Aumale and Ponthieu, but in the end, Aumale passed to Jehan while Leonor got Ponthieu. Leonor and her husband, Edward I, were more attentive to their duties than Jehanne was and were quick to pay off the numerous debts she’d accrued. After Leonor’s death, Ponthieu passed to only surviving son, Edward II, and then his son, Edward III, but was confiscated in 1336 by Philippe VI de France due to Edward’s sheltering of Robert III d’Artois, which was one of the many factors leading to the Hundred Years’ War. As for Jehan de Ponthieu, he went on to die at the Battle of the Golden Spurs in 1302. His granddaughter, Blanche d’Aumale, married Jehan III d’Harcourt, and her great-granddaughter, Marie d’Harcourt, was the mother of Ferry II de VaudĂ©mont, the husband of Yolande d’Anjou.
