The Reluctant Princess

Based on The Reluctant Bride 1866 by Auguste Toulmouche✨ a friend of mine suggested this prompt, and really popped off with this concept. The saddest part sleeping beauty is when her godmother‘s take her to the castle and prepare her to be a princess. They try to reassure her but she has just been stripped of her identity and agency. She never wanted to be a princess. So I have Flora, giving her a reassuring kiss on the forehead, Fauna imagining out loud what it would be like to be a princess, and Merryweather is the only one who actually sees Briar Rose’s sorrows and inner turmoil. I also added another master copy as a tapestry, (an illustration of Maleficent by Eyvind Earle) and it hangs quite literally over Aurora and adds an extra layer of foreboding.🖤 I stayed up till four in the morning working on this.🤠😂 It took me 13 hours total to finish it.

Vogue’s December 2008 issue had a Photo Editorial inspired by Romeo and Juliet and it reminded me so much of Romantic Leon that I had to do a mastercopy of the piece with Claire and Leon 💕 Also my wrist hurts because I took 49 hours on this with breaks 😭😭

Devlog 04/08/2024 - Perzine

Remember how I said I'd work on the magical girl zine? So...I ended up making a perzine instead.

It's about how sometimes I feel like my tastes are a tad too childish and that makes me feel a bit silly. In the end I always reach the same conclusion: I like what I like and what other's think shouldn't matter. However these feelings don't stop existing entirely, so I made a little zine about it.

The picture doesn't look super great, the lighting here is kinda crap, but this is the mastercopy. I'll scan this and finish the files some other day, but I'll put it on itch for anyone that wants to print their own.
