Movie Redo: Fixing Marvel's Thunderbolts*
Marvel's Thunderbolts* recently came out with a stellar trailer, watching some of our favorite MCU anti-heroes going through the motions while uncovering a mystery and becoming a team.
While many have praised the trailer for its style, action and tone, I have had some problems with the movie from the beginning. For one, the group Thunderbolts* tends to be villains pretending to be heroes as opposed to morally gray characters.
The movie tackles the spirit of this by having several characters fill in classic roles of the MCU Avengers: Yelena as Black Widow, U.S. Agent as Captain America, etc. But this stops at about half the team.
For example, we have three different variations of Captain America. Each are not Steve Rogers, morally gray super soldiers. The main difference is their range of comedic quips.
We also have two different variations of (basically) Black Widow.
This makes the lineup a bit stale power wise, and makes most of the lineup side Black Widow and Captain America characters.
While it makes entering the film easier, this doesn't give us the same feeling of "assembling" characters from the MCU like the Avengers did. The characters should come from many different projects as opposed to 2.
Finally, the team is made up of 7/8 white people. So in so many ways, this movie is suffering from a lack of diversity.
My goal is to liven up the team with characters across the MCU, villains and antiheroes alike. I'd like this team to:
Fill roles of the classic Avengers
Have a wide range of abilities
Reward long time MCU fans for watching along
Lets get started with an obvious question:
Who Stays & Who Goes?
While this group is full of some great MCU characters, too many unfortunately are redundant.
We will be saving 4 Characters, starting with:
1. Yelena Belova - White Widow (Black Widow / Hawkeye)
One of the smartest moves made by this movie is having Yelena be the lead. I love Florence Pugh, and one thing that can differentiate this team from The Avengers is having White Widow be the leader.
She is the clear and funnest Black Widow stand-in, so I will be choosing her over Taskmaster.
2. John Walker - U.S. Agent (Falcon & The Winter Soldier)
Of the Captain America knock offs, U.S. Agent is by far the most interesting.
No hate to Red Guardian's jokes or Winter Soldier's angst, but having a sad, broken not as good Captain America who is not a good man but a perfect soldier, there's so many ways you can go with it. He can be a traitor to the group, the eventual villain or just the guy who thinks he's the leader.
He is also the character we've seen least of the 3, and deserves his time on the big screen.
3. Ava Starr - Ghost (Ant-Man & The Wasp)
One of the most underrated characters in the MCU, Ghost was a highlight for me in the Ant-Man trilogy. With a tragic backstory, skills to match the Winter Soldier and an actual interesting power, I'm really excited to see where they go with this character.
Plus I love her new suit.
4. Bob - The Sentry (Thunderbolts*)
Lewis Pullman is playing "Bob" who is most likely Robert Reynolds AKA The Sentry, a Superman like superhero who struggles with memory loss, and has the power of "a million suns".
Due to the S in the trailer and his general confusion, Sentry will likely join the team, and his archenemy The Void will may even be the main antagonist.
As a powerful longhaired hero, he fills the role of a Thor for our Avengers, which is a definite need.
The mystery behind Bob as well as the inclusion of a new Superman like character is very fun. I do think a need for every MCU movie is an addition of a new interesting character, so Bob must stay.
Now that we have our 4 stays, let's make some fun additions.
5. Agent Dex Poindexter - Bullseye (Daredevil Season 3)
Agent Poindexter fills a couple of significant roles from the Avengers and from the Thunderbolts* who we took off the list.
Like Taskmaster, Bullseye is an assassin, who worked for a puppet master who is still very much alive and around in the MCU. But unlike many of the other killers on this list, he enjoys killing. As the teams resident sociopath, he can be the devil on their shoulder, egging the team on to go further than they have before.
He also nicely fills the teams role as their Hawkeye. The both have perfect aim, have taken on new identities to commit atrocities, and started off as law men.
It also gives all viewers great homework, because everyone should watch Daredevil.
6. Aaron Davis - The Prowler (Spider-Man Homecoming / Across the Spider-Verse)
The Spider side of the MCU has very much stayed in its place due to Sony. One character who has appeared in both Sony and Marvel, portrayed by the same actor I might add, is Aaron Davis.
Aaron Davis first appeared in Spider-Man Homecoming, and if we believe him to portray the same character in Across the Spider-Verse, has evolved into his role as Prowler now.
Prowler with his tech, claws, skills, and general goofy vibe, could fill the role of a Black Panther or Spider-Man for our group, and much like Spider-Man, be the ground level criminal entering this world of Assassins and Gods.
You can also view him as more of a thief than anything else. Like Aladdin or Star-Lord, fitting him into this team but definitely bringing a different perspective as opposed to Bullseye.
I see Prowler as a secondary lead character, one who has Yelena's back over some of the others, and hopefully makes it out of this mission alive.
7. Titania (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law)
Where there are Avengers, there is need for muscle.
Titania is one the secondary villains from Marvel's She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, notably played by Good Place actress Jameela Jamil.
Titania fills the role of a Hulk / Captain Marvel to the group as our resident strong woman, but also takes up Red Guardians role as comedic relief.
As a social media influencer and fashion icon, she'll bring a very different energy than our other two heroines. She also has the tendency to back whoever to keep herself alive, meaning she may team up with the worst of our titular team if there is a coup.
Plus I'd like her to dawn her wrestler outfit.
8. Justin Hammer - MACH-1 (Iron Man 2)
With many of the Avengers roles filled, all we need is left is a billionaire genius playboy.
Since his debut in Iron Man 2, Sam Rockwell fans have been clamoring for the actor to return as Justin Hammer. While we have inklings of him in All Hail to to King & What If, having Justin as comedic relief and the teams resident tech expert can add a different flavor to the team.
While Justin Hammer doesn't have an alter ego in the comics, he could take on the role of Titanium Man like he does in the animated show, Iron Man Armored Adventures.
My only gripe is the name is a little too close to Titania, so I recommend he takes on the name Mach-1, the alter ego of the Beetle when he joined the Thunderbolts.
While he is not The Beetle, he is still a villain pretending to be a hero, and several have taken on the name of Mach-1, so I think it'll be fine.
With just a few notable changes, my MCU team is now complete.
We now have heroes and villains from across the MCU, all with unique skills, powers, tools and motivations.
And once they all suit up...
They'll make one hell of a team.
Thank you so much for reading! Please consider following, and check out my socials and other sites here! And let me know: Who do you think should be on the Thunderbolts*?

SUMMARY
You've always seen the world a bit differently than others. It was like your magic power. And maybe that was why only you could see the lights that night. The big, astronomical explosion of lights that rained down to earth in colors you had never known to have existed until now. Little did you know about a divine destiny beyond your wildest dreams, and seven angelic beings brought down from heaven to guide you.
Apparently, the world is ending, and they're convinced that you're the one to save it. All you have to do, is figure out how.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Seoul was extraordinarily cold for an early-spring night.
A bitter sort of chill, one that called for sweaters, hats and for some, a warm coat. The perfect type of night to stay in doors, safe and cozy, curling up on the couch with a steaming cup of tea. A great book in hand, or perhaps a Netflix session to start off a weekend binge.
At least, that appealed to some people.
For others, it was never too cold to live it up--throw on a cute fit and assemble the squad. No matter how low the temperature dropped, the active city at no time neglected a vibrant nightlife. Neon lights illuminated the ground, bleeding saturated colors, and the black pavement glittered as club-goers and bar-hoppers bustled from place to place.
Just as those whom braved the weather, stilettos clacking and hair done-up, someone else had been promised a good time that night.
The time of his life.
One of grandeur and refinement, at the top of the classiest hotel. Where old money mingled with new money, striking deals as they utilized charisma like a weapon--guns loaded, waiting for the right moment to strike. Not ever really enjoying the company of each other, though feigning pleasantries for the sake of the game. The salacious game of shameless business, be it for power, money or love.
And tonight, many had gathered to play. Dressed in the finest attire, their sparkling bodies circled and flirted, sipping on champagne with painted lips and fake smiles. Dazzling, beautiful people, fat with riches, Botox and high societal respect. The creme-de-la-creme.
How ignorant they were.
How oblivious.
Such egocentric, vapid humans, so self involved that they'd hardly noticed the absence of the man whom they came for in the first place.
This was his night. His party. Recognition for all the sweat and tears he'd spilled vying for a spot within their good graces. Validation, that his professional enslavement was all gearing for a brighter future. Oh, the butts he kissed, the demands he dealt with.
The sacrifices he made.
He should be drunk as fuck, enjoying the food, befriending the one percent, charming some women and busting out his sick dance moves. His time had come. He'd finally made it.
So why?
Why, instead, did Jung Hoseok find the tops of his leather-shoed feet dangled off the hotel roof, dangerously toying with a fatal descent?
More importantly, why did he look so...
broken?
Tears streaming, wet and snotty, the tall, elegant man appeared as if the seams to his existence had torn apart. Like his insides were barely contained, spilling from all sides, as he clutched his rib cage desperately. Sniffing, chocking down sobs.
The icy winds whipped violently, staining his skin with raw, pink stripes and the coattails of his black Armani tux flapped like flags at mast.
'Ding' A chime alerted from his suit pocket.
Hoseok's weight teetered unsteadily, grimacing, the sound clearly distraught him. "You've won!" He thought, "Just leave me alone!"
'Ding, ding' It chimed again. Determined.
Hoseok swallowed thickly.
Fishing around in his tux, the man pulled out his phone and looked down at the Kakao Talk ID that popped up on the screen. JustYourPrince had sent him a new attachment. His heart dropped, anxious as he opened it, eyes swiping the image with speed. A strangled groan ripped from his throat.
It was a picture of a blind-folded woman. She was tied up and gagged with a gun pointed at her temple. Her long, black locks abnormally messed, and it had been clear by her bloodied lip that she'd put up a fight. Tears of recognition welled in Hoseok's eyes.
'Tick, tock.' The message below spelled out.
An anguished look distorted delicate features, as Hoseok threw his head to the sky, searching for a sign, praying that God had a sick sense of humor. This wasn't really happening. This couldn't actually be happening.
Not to him.
Not to her.
'Ding'
'Ding'
'Ding'
"I can't take it anymore! Ok? I'll do it! I'll do it, I said! So please, just stop!"
The man didn't want to jump.
He had to jump.
That is to say, there didn't seem to be an alternative option. If Hoseok didn't do what they'd asked, she was going to pay the price for it.
'Friday at midnight. If you don't do it by then, she'll suffer the consequences of your actions, Mr. Jung.' That's what they told him.
It was Friday.
Time was running out.
Looking down, the man's stomach lurched. Woozy from the vertigo, he blinked through the blur, palms sweaty, nails digging, as he gauged the height of the drop. Must be at least twenty stories. The hundreds of bodies below resembled dots amidst the glow of building lights. For a moment, he envied those dots. So insignificant--free to exist in peace, camouflaged by the vastness of society.
'Dong--' 'Dong--' rang the clock-tower bells a few blocks over, a final countdown initiating.
11:59 p.m.
A singular tear dripped off his nose and fell to the streets below. Hoseok sucked in a breath as he watched it vanish from sight, holding in air then relinquishing it all at once. Trembling.
Anticipating.
Wondering, how everything spun so far out of control? It wasn't supposed to be like this. The man's life was in mere adolescence, opportunities just started knocking at his door. He'd worked so hard fortoo long, only to at last receive his reward--and now that reward was being snatched from his grasp. Cruelly. Evilly. The sweet taste of success, drowned by the bitterness of his misfortune.
It wasn't fair.
It wasn't fair at all, but Hoseok couldn't let her suffer. Not for something that was his responsibility in the first place. He refused to allow another person he loved foot his bill, because the last time, it had ended badly. No one was meant to get hurt, but a dangerous game had been played--against an even more formidable foe. One whom he'd sorely miscalculated, and that had been his first grave mistake.
'Dong--'
His second was his naivety.
'Dong--'
His third was his negligence.
'Dong--'
Maybe this was karma--
'Dong--'
--reaping what he sowed.
'Dong--'
As the last bell tolled, Hoseok shut his eyes tight, collecting his wits. Carefully, he turned his back from the ledge, unwilling to witness full force his death to the ground beneath. He'd rather face the sky, instead. That way, he'd be less afraid.
The wind shoved at his chest, demanding and hostile, as if it'd grown impatient, reminding the man of the urgency.
'At midnight.' It whispered.'Tick, tok.'
Hoseok told the wind to kindly, fuck off.
Let him go on his own terms.
Let him go with dignity.
Composed.
Mind clear.
Deep breath.
And then he went, tipping himself over the ledge.
Air rushed his descending person, as gravity dragged him down. Faster and faster, the feeling unlike any he'd experienced before. Adrenaline juiced through his veins like a drug, blood pumping at a frightening speed. It was almost... exciting--fun even, if not for the end Hoseok knew awaited him.
Soon, he would be nothing more than a splattered lump on concrete. An eyesore for pedestrians, and a burden for the poor soul tasked with scrapping his guts off the sidewalk. It'd be quick, though, he was thankful for that.
At least this way, he could free himself.
Free them both.
The thought brought him some comfort.
Then, out of nowhere, a blinding light intrigued Hoseok's eyes to open. He gasped, enthralled by what he saw. Beautiful and terrifying all at once, the indescribable hues of colors gave chase to his falling form. Illuminated beams extended out, weaving and streaking the stratosphere like arms to catch him before he hit the ground below.
Stretching out as far as he could, Hoseok yearned to touch it, curious to learn its texture. Time seemed to slow. Dark hair kissed his cheeks gently, fluttering, as he wondered what something so pretty even felt like? Was it cold? Or did it burn? Sting? Tingle? Drench?
Since he was going to die regardless, it'd be nice to die knowing something like that. Maybe then, the idea of his life cut short wouldn't be so bad, so tragic.
Maybe then, he'd have some hope.
As though his request had been heard, the light sped faster, until suddenly his fingertips grazed the surface. Sizzling. An electrifying current blew through his veins, hot and freezing all at the same time. Flesh quivering, pleasured by the exotic sensation, Hoseok's lips parted in a blissful grin.
Because now he knew.
He knew everything.
Completely at peace and with an accepting look in his eye, the man gave himself over to the light. Permitting his body to be consumed within its glow, before he came crashing down on the sidewalk beneath.
The midnight bell concluded, marking the arrival of a new day. 0:00 a.m.

Do we know anything about the historical context that allowed Venice to come up with something like the Arsenal? Most accounts kind of treat it as this de Novo idea to mass produce ships, but I feel like history never actually works like that, and Carthaginians were doing that 1,500 years earlier. Were there trends going on elsewhere in Europe and the Mediterranean world that contributed to this industrial breakthrough? Do we know anything about the specific administrators who had to plan this seeming quantum leap in production out? Did a bunch of folks immediately see what the Venetians were doing and copy it? If not, why?
I'm going to take a slightly broader take on this question: the assembly line is not an invention, it's a discovery. So it's not about who did it first, because you have lots of cases of independent discoveries happening in wildly disparate times and places.
I remember quite vividly a talk given by Professor Anthony Barbieri-Low when he first arrived at UCSB, where he argued that the assembly line was first discovered in China...during the Bronze Age. As early as the Shang and Zhou dynasties around 1000 BCE, we have evidence of assembly line techniques being used in the production of bronze and pottery, because the pieces were inscribed on the bottom with indications of which worker did which parts of the process and which quality inspector signed off on the piece as good enough for sale - so that if the thing broke, officials could figure out exactly who to blame for shoddy work.
So it's not that Venice was the first to ever adopt the idea of assembly line manufacture of ships, but rather that they did it more consistently and devoted more resources to it than anyone else, and iteratively improved on the techniques to get production times down to a single day per galley.
The Arsenal of Venice was an enormous complex, roughly 15% of Venice's landmass, surrounded by a two-mile long defensive wall, and employing some 16,000 people. In addition to standardized pre-fabricated parts, the Arsenal also emphasized division of labor with workshops devoted to producing everything a warship might need in-house - rope, rigging, masts, planking, sails, nails, guns, etc. Organizing these supply chains, what we might call vertical integration, was an incredible logistical feat in and of itself.
In terms of technology, the Arsenal pioneered frame-first (as opposed to hull-first) construction, a moving assembly line whereby galleys were floated down a canal to different stages of the production process, new forms of firearms, and new kinds of ships llike the galleass and galleon. Galileo was a major consultant to the Arsenal at the height of its power.
In addition to the technical advancements, all of this required a lot of money - roughly 10% of the Republic's entire budget - and what made Venice truly unique was its ability to devote those kind of resources on a regular basis at a time when even powerful empires like the Ottomans and the Spanish were still using the yo-yoing methods of medieval fleet construction.

Trick or treat!
Treat! I am so sorry this is late, anon, but I am hope this sneak peak of sort of Halloween inspired Silverflint fic I didn't finish in time for Halloween lmao. This is set between S3 and 4, their happiest time.
I tried to do some actual historical research for this, but I couldn't find any good weaknesses for vampires I could use so I just rolled with crucifixes, even though I don't think that was a thing until Dracula.
But anyhow, hopefully I'll finish this soon. Sorry for any typos. Hope ya all enjoy!
"Mr Davis scrambled from the hold, utterly terrified, and out onto the deck. There, hanging from the mast, were the leaders of the mutiny. There came another loud bang--" Silver stomped down with his good leg, rather pleased at how half the men around him jumped. He caught sight of Flint, smirking at him from the quarterdeck, leaning over the rail. The rest of the men all stood or sat assembled around the chair and table where their quartermaster regaled them with his second ghost story of the night.
"Lightning filled the sky, and that was when Davis noticed it - written in blood on the sails were the words," he raised his voice a little to accentuate the message, his tone dark: "Death to Mutineers and Traitors!
"Mr Davis didn't dare tempt fate after that, not that he'd seen the power of whatever supernatural thing had taken hold of his ship. He was sure it was Captain Creedy's ghost, returning to take out his wrath on the crew who'd robbed him of his chance to see his sick wife in their greed. So, he ran for the nearest launch and, packing what rations he could, he set fire to the ship, and got away as fast as possible aboard his launch. He told me he drifted for two days before he was picked up by another merchant. And he was also certain that Captain Creedy's ghost continues to haunt the sea to this day, searching for his vengeance, and intent on killing all mutineers he finds."
Silver leans back in his chair now, his eyes meeting Flint's again, and now he caught the captain's frown there.
"Now, is this story even true or was Mr Davis just some miserable fuck who'd been paid a little extra coin by the merchant captain to keep the rest of us too scared to stand up to him? I think that's a more likely explanation, if I'm being honest."
He downed the rest of the rum on the table beside him. "Well, I think that's enough for now. I hope none of you idiots will be having nightmares tonight. And if you do, I suppose it's a good thing I'm not peddling gossip anymore." That got the laugh he desired, so he heaved himself up and made for the quarterdeck. The crew parted for him, wandering away to either make for their berths or return to whatever duties were required of them. They should reach Maroon island by the morning, so the men were all quite eager to be off the ship.
Flint's lips were still turned downward when Silver moved up to stand beside him. "If you're going to start complaining, I'd much rather hear it now," he said, though he cannot quite keep the playfulness from his tone.
"I was wondering how you intended to deal with having a ship full of men who are out of their minds with fear of Captain Creedy's ghost," Flint's tone was also playful, though John could tell he was also being serious.
"Have you ever considered having just a little more faith in them? And I did try to tell them it wasn't true."
All at once, one of the men--Mr Morrisey, Silver recognized him as a new recruit--came scrambling over nervously.
"Mr Silver, sir, sorry, but uh. Me and some o' the lads was wondering about ways we might ward off the ghost tonight, should he come calling."
Silver caught Flint's knowing smirk from over Morrisey's shoulder. Smug bastard.
He hesitated, just long enough for Flint to step up. "A wooden crucifix, affixed above your hammocks, should be good enough," the captain said.
Morrisey cast a surprised look at Flint, then met his quartermaster's gaze. Silver gave him a nod. "And try not to spread your worry around about this to the men," he added, "the captain's suggestion should keep any supernatural entities at bay, so no need to worry the others about it."
"Aye," Morrisey nodded, turning the walking away, his step more sure now.
Silver turned to look at Flint, who gave him a little smile now. "You were saying?"
Silver neatly side-stepped the question with, instead asking: "Crucifixes, captain? I thought those were meant to ward off vampires."
"It reassured him, didn't it?" Flint turned and began to walk toward his cabin, glancing back, clearly making sure Silver was following.
John fell into step beside him, able to move a little better on his iron leg because he'd been sitting for the past couple of hours. And because Flint and Madi both mother henned over him so much now he was forced to take care of himself, lest he incur either of their wrath.
"You seemed to enjoy the story," Silver said, following Flint into his cabin--their cabin? Perhaps it was now. "I saw that look on your face."
Flint glanced back at him, and Silver thought maybe he could spot the flush that crept from his cheeks down his neck.
And ah, so that's how it would be. A thrill went through him at the thought, and pushed the door closed behind him, bolting it seconds before Flint shoved him right back against the wooden surface, kissing him hard.

The Engines of the Cronk & Harwick Railway
This is a continuation of a previous post in which I gave a basic overview of my rather silly headcanon for the Cronk & Harwick Railway (or as they're frequently refered to The Old Crooked and Horrible), a railway which is briefly mentioned in the IOS Book and appears on a few RWS maps.
This post is about the fleet of engines which run this obscure, backwater, and largely illegal railway.
No.1 - Queen Anne:
The C&H’s first engine has been through several changes over the years. She was originally built as a box tank for the Sodor and Mainland Railway. When first acquired by the C&H in 1900 she was given the name ‘Queen Anne’ by the line's owner. She was immediately set to work, despite being in poor condition from her previous working life on the S&M, but managed to keep going without any major repairs for about 10 years. By 1910 however, she was completely worn out. Instead of sending her off to an actual railway workshop however, the C&H decided they could do the necessary repairs in-house. While she was being repaired, the railway also took the opportunity to make some modifications, and Queen Anne emerged with a set of trailing wheels as well as a cab. It is, however, made of wood, and is said to leak so much that crews wonder why the railway even bothered.
During World War II Queen Anne was stored in an abandoned mineshaft along with the rest of the C&H’s fleet. After the war, she emerged from the mine with yet another change to her design. Her old box tank had completely rusted through and had been replaced with a more conventional saddle tank crudely bolted in its place. Where the railway got this saddle tank from is unknown, though Crovan’s Gate Works reported sometime during the war that one of their spare tanks for NWR number 6 ‘Percy’ had gone missing. There was an interesting continuation of this mystery a few years after the war, when the NWR’s Chief Engineer walked into the works one morning to find a rusty old box tank tucked amongst Percy’s spare parts. Needless to say, Percy was not at all happy about the suggestion, but the big engines laughed about it for a whole week!
Below is a sketch of Queen Anne in her post war form:
No.2 - Surprise:
By 1909 Queen Anne was quickly becoming worn out, and would shortly be going for overhaul in 1910. Another engine was needed quickly. The owner of the C&H had an idea. Taking inspiration from the Coffee Pots then being built for the TK&ELR, he decided to build his own engine right there in Harwick.
Salvaging a vertical boiler from an old riverboat, as well as several parts from various unknown sources (given this guy's track record this engine is almost certainly at least 90% stolen), he assembled a rather unusual engine. The engine was named ‘Surprise’ as in, it’s a surprise whenever he’s actually functioning properly! From the start Surprise was beset with mechanical and steaming issues, but the need for another engine saw him put to work anyway, and within a year a rather unorthodox workaround had been found for his reliability issues. A mast and sail was fitted as an alternative means of propulsion! Amazingly this worked, and Surprise has kept this addition ever since, using his steam for shunting and for starting heavy trains, and then gliding along the line by sail.
This is not always ideal, especially along the ballaswein branch which operates as a tramway for much of its length. Many a motorist and pedestrians have been forced to swerve or leap out of the way at the last second, as a train under power of sail has crept silently up behind them with little warning until it is nearly too late (Huh… I guess the name ‘Surprise’ is quite fitting in that regard as well)!
Below is a sketch of Surprise:
Railmotor No.1 Units A&B - Chitty and Bang:
The C&H has provided a passenger service since the switch to steam power in 1900, when a handful of old S&M 4 wheeled coaches had accompanied the purchase of Queen Anne. This had never really been satisfactory however. The coaches were by all accounts already falling apart before they had even arrived, and the C&H had a reputation of sparing every expense when it came to the upkeep of… well, pretty much everything. Nothing was done about the matter however, for several years, despite repeated requests, complaints, riots and death threats from passengers.
At last, after the rotting coaches and their bare board seats gave passengers one too many splinters where the sun don’t shine, the passengers rallied together, demanding the railway provide a better service for their paying customers!
So one late night break-in to a scrapyard later the C&H had acquired a pair of broken old buses, which they soon set about converting into railmotors as their newest passenger stock. As an additional modification they were also fitted with roof-top storage racks for carrying a light amount of goods and supplies.
The brother and sister pair of railmotors were named ‘Chitty’ and ‘Bang’, and they are… admittedly not much of an improvement over the old carriages… in fact in some ways they’re kind of a downgrade… but at least the seats have cushions now, and coupled back-to-back (as neither has a reverse gear) Chitty and Bang continue to be the mainstay of the C&H’s passenger service.
Below is a sketch of Chitty and Bang:
And that's all for now. As you can see, the C&H's fleet is a rather unusual bunch, in keeping with the ramshackle nature of the railway as a whole. But just as every ship needs a good crew to stay afloat, so to does a railway need a good fleet of engines, so I guess The Old Crooked and Horrible must be doing something right to still be around!

What are Types of Combined bearings?
KAVITSU Bearings combined bearings are engineered to meet the specific technical demands of forklifts and mast manufacturers, ensuring optimal performance in these applications. Additionally, they excel in providing linear motion in various other types of equipment.
The design of KAVITSU combined bearings effectively distributes external loads into their constituent components, achieving superior load resolution. These bearings feature a unique configuration that enables seamless sharing of radial and axial loads, maintaining balance and stability during operation. By combining main and axial bearings, they efficiently handle both radial and axial loads, promoting smooth linear motion devoid of sliding friction.
This innovative design not only ensures smooth operation but also reduces wear and tear on supports and channels, resulting in significant power savings. Additionally, it effectively dampens vibration levels, leading to a quieter operational environment.
This system extends the lifespan of the bearings and the profile by minimizing the specific pressure between the bearing and the beam.
The assembly of the bearing is straightforward. A plate or shaft can be directly welded onto the soft axle of the bearing, and the welded bearing can then be inserted into the beam, making it ready for immediate use.
All rolling components are crafted from alloy steel and undergo proper heat treatment to achieve the standard bearing hardness (60 HRC). The bearing comprises an inner race, outer race, center pin, welding bolt, and radial ring.
Filled with lifelong lubricating grease and equipped with rubber sealing, the bearing is protected from leakage, dust, and other foreign particles. Special greasing arrangements are made for applications where environmental conditions are exceptionally harsh.
The bearings are produced in two distinct series: LIGHT and HEAVY.
LIGHT series bearings feature outer diameters ranging from 52mm to 150mm, ideal for integration into channels or I-sections as per requirements. For heavy-duty applications, larger outer diameters, ranging from 165mm to 309mm, are utilized with heavy channels or I-sections.
These bearings find widespread application in a variety of equipment such as pallet stackers, pallet lifters, telescopic forks, lift masts, tool changer systems for heavy molds in plastic molding machines, diverse die-changing systems, lift systems, eccentric lifting tables, robot tracks, multi-axis units, heavy load linear systems, pallet in-feeding stations, and fast picks.
Combined bearings, a specialized type of bearing, amalgamate two types of rolling elements, typically ball bearings and cylindrical roller bearings, into a single unit. They are engineered to accommodate both radial and axial loads simultaneously, making them particularly suitable for applications where space constraints and heavy load requirements are prevalent. Within the LIGHT series, two main variants of combined bearings exist:
Both variants of the LIGHT series combined bearings boast compact designs, high load-carrying capacities, and efficient performance. They are offered in a range of sizes and configurations to precisely match the diverse needs of various applications.
How Does a Slew Ring Bearing Work?
Slew ring bearings consist of inner and outer rings with a rolling element (ball or roller) interface between them. They allow rotational movement by supporting radial, axial, and moment loads simultaneously. The rings facilitate smooth rotation, ensuring the transfer of loads from the equipment to the bearing, and subsequently to the mounting structure.
The key to their functionality lies in the design, precision assembly, and choice of materials, enabling these bearings to handle substantial loads while maintaining their structural integrity and rotational capabilities.

Knowing Your Machine- A Guide to Essential Parts of the Forklift
Forklifts are the workhorses of warehouses and industrial settings, essential for lifting and transporting heavy loads. But, for those new to operating a forklift, the different parts of the forklift and their functions can seem overwhelming. This guide will break down the essential components of a forklift, empowering you to understand your machine and operate it safely and efficiently.
The Chassis
The chassis, also known as the frame, is the foundation of the forklift transport. It houses the engine (in internal combustion models) or electric motor (battery-powered models) and provides a sturdy base for all other components. The front wheels of the forklift are steerable, allowing for manoeuvring in tight spaces.
The Mast
The mast is the vertical assembly at the front of the forklift that raises and lowers the forks. It typically consists of two or more interlocking channels that slide against each other, extending and retracting through a hydraulic lifting system. The mast height determines the maximum lifting capacity of the forklift.
The Carriage
The carriage is the horizontal platform attached to the top of the mast that holds the forks. It allows the forks to be tilted forward and backward, a crucial function for safe lifting, lowering, and maneuvering of pallets. The tilt mechanism is controlled by the operator using a hydraulic lever.
The Forks
The forks are the steel extensions at the front of the carriage that physically interface with the pallet or load. They come in various lengths and widths depending on the type of forklift and the intended use. Some forklifts can also be equipped with specialized attachments in place of forks, such as clamps or buckets, to handle specific loads.
The Counterweight
The counterweight is a heavy mass located at the back of the forklift. It serves as a crucial balance for the weight of the lifted load in the front. Without the counterweight, the forklift would tip forward when carrying a heavy load. The weight of the counterweight is carefully calibrated to match the lifting capacity of the forklift.
Understanding the essential parts of a forklift empowers you to operate it with confidence and prioritize safety. Remember, proper training and certification are crucial before operating a forklift.
