Sevika's tastes

Sevika is an old lady and she just wants to be left alone. She likes to look good but when it comes to clothes, Miss thing just doesn’t care that much. She always has practicality in mind. So, no dresses, nothing flowy, has to have natural fabrics so that her skin can breathe, and she requires that things are comfortable. Her shoes are always made for hardware with a strong sole and often reinforced. In the modern world, I see her working in metal working (specifically welding), so she has to have clothes that are multipurpose. Though, if she was forced to wear anything really nice, it would be a simple well-cut blazer and a button down with jeans or slacks that conform to her legs nicely. She prefers earthy colors, nothing too flashy. I think she’d really appreciate a nice dark green, or perhaps brown. I also feel that she would enjoy a nice flannel regularly.

With food, I’m afraid her palette is as unrefined as her clothing choices. She genuinely does not care what she eats, though she really likes chicken- loves hot wings, spicy food is her love. But, her comfort food will always be the food native to what part of India her family is from. I don’t think she’s the best cook, but she has a few family recipes that she knows so well (aloo gobi, chai, samosa, tikka masala, saag paneer). And, I think that on nights where she’s feeling really sad or lonely she always craves those foods. She’d love to cook with or for her partner, it’d be the best way to get to know her honestly. Because it allows for her to show vulnerability through actions and without words. She loves to take care of people and I think in modern times she’d mother her friends just a bit, always making sure they’re eating well, drinking their water, and sleeping right (if not she’ll give them some chai). She doesn’t eat beef or dark meats in general, and she isn’t the biggest fan of seafood or turkey. So, she sticks with her chicken and her paneer. She’ll eat tofu but it needs to be in curry or something similar.

This woman would love 80s hair metal, music is something that I genuinely believe she’d love so much. She’d play drums as a teenager, dead set on becoming the drummer of the next Metallica. She’d also love the old school heavy metal bands, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Pantera. She’d love them all. I think she’d like some old school 90s rap too, but none of the new-age mumble rap that’s going on. She wouldn’t really like Taylor Swift’s music, just because it didn’t vibe with her, but she respected Taylor’s ability to get a bag. She has had a huge crush on Adele ever since she heard the album 25 when it came out. She liked some of her music, but thought Adele was drop dead gorgeous and all mature and soulful and shit, hit her in the feels and made her whipped for this woman she didn’t even know.

For movies she loves shitty 80s slasher horror, nothing that makes her think. She’d sit back in her old recliner in her pajamas and house slippers whilst watching Slumber Party Massacre for the third time, and then put on Golden Girls because she feels that Dorothy Zbornak is her spirit animal. She likes a good sitcom too and a ridiculous drama (she loves Desperate Housewives), she likes the camp, the over the top acting and dumb plots, it makes her laugh and feel care free in a way she hasn’t been in a long time. She just wants to curl up with her pets (she would have many) and watch teen-based tv shows that revolve around crime or secrets (Pretty Little Liars, Riverdale, Vampire Diaries, even Buffy etc.). She likes how bad they are, but she gets so invested it’s ridiculous.

For personal scents she’d like more woody, alluring scents that are also kind of sweet. Think Amber by Rag n’ Bone (it smells so good), she doesn’t spray much, just a spritz, it wafts around her just slightly, just enough for women to fall at her feet. Her individual smell wouldn't be overpowering but it would definitely be clear. It’s grounding and soothing. Her sweat stinks though, every time she comes back from the gym, she goes straight to the showers because her own dogs don’t want to come near her b.o.

In general, Sevika is an old woman who couldn’t give less of a shit. She wants to be left alone with her life and her people and chill. Which is why, I feel like she isn’t that opinionated on much unless it’s boundaries or causes she cares about. She just doesn’t have the energy to be bothered with trivial things like which movie to choose for the night, or which restaurant to go to. She is tired and all she wants to do is eat good food with her partner and her pets in a little cottage in the middle of nowhere. She doesn’t like neighbors and she doesn’t like people in her business. She doesn’t need a perfect life, just one that’s hers.

Last book: good fucking lord i finally finished my 62 hour audiobook of Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson and then offered one of my friends who reads them also a ride to go and hang out with another friend who lives an hour away so they could be trapped in the car with me as we debriefed the book. bc good fucking lord. but i just started The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James and I'm still working my way through The Chill by Scott Carson.

Last movie: it would've been the batman begins movie, i watched 2 and 3 on the plane (3 bc of glen powell and then figured i should watch 2 and 1)

Last TV show: I am watching Silo right now, mid-way thru season 2 and trying to find time to finish it

Twisted Teas

I don’t know a lot about tea, only that I usually like it iced and sweet, a casualty of growing up in the south. But I’ve been wanting to learn more about it, especially blends. I found this cool website, Adagio Teas, that have a bunch of fan made fandom blends for a ton of different books, movies, video games, and tv shows (#notsponsored). 1. definitely mixed. brad is actually my best friend. the copaganda is once again becoming morally unconscionable for me (it was a major factor in me dropping the show before and I’m really remembering why right now). eddie is losing it in a super fun way (buying a house in El Paso??????) which is awesome, but they made him have his two most important conversations of the season with 1) a hot priest and 2) brad hotshots which is really annoying to me. because all I want in the world is for him to have more FRIENDS!!!!!!! but buck is about to go absolutely apeshit in 8b so I guess that’s cool. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THEY ARE TRYING TO GET MY GIRL AGAIN!!!!!! has maddie han not suffered enough. I mean I’m excited for a maddie storyline but this will be like the third time she is kidnapped/held hostage. like can we think of something new for my girl PLEASEEEEE

2. well okay so. cute throuple absolutely. the boys are both in love with the girl (Avery) and have kissed/hooked up w her separately but they also definitely have their own super weird thing going on. the nurse dude reached for both of their hands (to hold for comfort) when he was sick and scared and also grabbed both of their hands and the three of them walked down the aisle at a (fake) wedding holding hands. ALSO they all had a threesome and the guys weren’t shown doing anything together before the network tv cut to black (actually cut to suicide hotline. separate issue.), but it was a really consequential thing and the girl brought up being in a throuple after and they were both interested (even though they both ended up saying no) and it was HEAVILY implied that the threesome was like. mutual between all three of them. and the boys generally have a lot of weird tension but also have their own close relationship separate from avery. oh and there was also this insane metaphor involving tikka masala potato chips. basically the boys have yet to address their feelings for each other textually but the subtext is very much leaning that way. When Max was a kid, his dad’s favorite knife bigger than his tiny forearm, he’d told him the most important thing about their job. It was simple, really. “Do not get attached. Whatever personal feelings or remorse you have gets thrown out the window. Do your job, and deal with the rest later.”

Since that day, Max had tagged along on his dad’s appointments until he was considered old enough to start taking appointments. When he was 9. He still remembers it; some angry ex-wife who’d asked Max and his dad to kill her cheating, deadbeat ex-husband. His dad had let him fire the fatal shot that ended up killing him. Quick and dirty.

He’d had nightmares about it until he was 13. The blood splatter against the wall. The way his dad had patted his back with a triumphant smile, lips curling into something sinister as he flashed his pearly whites at Max.

At 18, he’d learned all he’d needed to know. How to properly clean a toilet. How to make coffee. And how to hide a dead body.

Max stares at his target from the rooftop of some run down apartment that’s infested with rats. It stunk strongly of mold and decay, and if Max hadn’t developed such a strong stomach from seeing and smelling brain matter since the tender age of 11, he’d probably throw up.

He finishes the last of his chocolate croissant, licking the crumbs off his fingers as he looks down the scope on his rifle, zooming in a little on the man’s ugly, screwed up face as he came. Max tamps down a laugh. If only he knew what was coming.

That’s the thing about assassinating people. They usually never know what’s coming for them. One day they’re having their morning coffee, and the next they’re dead. Simple as that. It used to tear Max up inside, all those years ago, but he’s learned how to manage it, he thinks. You see something enough and it becomes normal.

He shoots next to the man’s head, narrowly avoiding his ear. The bullet grazes it, if his screams of shock are any indication. The man does exactly what Max wants him to do. He runs out of the house screaming.

“Got you,” Max whispers to himself, looking down the scope once more. Everything slows down, his back muscles tensing, his breath becoming shallow as he fires one last shot, right into his chest.

The man stops. His eyes glaze over, and he falls to his knees with a deafening crack. Max smiles, triumphant.

As he packs his things up, he wonders whether he should order Thai or Indian for dinner. He thinks about the stacks of various food menus resting in his kitchen drawer, sticking together like one happy, symbiotic machine, and settles on Indian. He’s been craving chicken tikka masala.

He sighs as he gets into his beat up, sun damaged ‘95 Honda Civic, turning on his favorite Dutch radio station. He listens to the familiar songs from his childhood while driving to his apartment, aching for his bed.

Max lives in a shoebox. He has to, though. He can’t live in a nice, expensive apartment while killing people for a living. It just doesn’t make sense. He has to stay under the radar.

So he lives in a shoebox with no heating and no central air, with loud neighbors and two stray cats that love to visit him on the fire escape. He tells everyone that he works a regular job; a security guard for some high end law firm; and pays his taxes like a good citizen. He’s golden. No one has to know that he’s been killing random people since he was a child, and that sometimes he wakes up in a panic because of it. He was mostly okay.

Max runs through the rest of his day in a haze. He says hi to his neighbors, smiling in a way he hopes is believable. He runs through the motions of calling his favorite restaurant to order his food, hoping that his voice sounds normal, and not fuzzy and distant like it does in his head.

He finishes the last of his food while watching some stupid reality TV show that was in the recommended section of the previous apartment owner’s Netflix account. She’d never logged out on the TV she’d left behind, and since Max didn’t want to risk getting found out by something as stupid as a Netflix account, he used it to his advantage.

He let himself sink into the leather of his couch, listening to the contestants argue about who to kick off the island until he fell asleep. Sometimes he likes to pretend that those people were really there with him, that it wasn’t just him and his own parasitic thoughts.

if you're in the mood for a romance movie

1. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge: it's as old as me and still running in a theatre after all these years. it's literally that movie. the biggest reason he's called the king of romance and there wasn't even a kissing scene in this. hasn't aged. beautiful soundtrack. and the infamous mustard field

2. My Name is Khan: 14th feb 2010, 3pm show in a single screen theatre and i had the time of my life watching my first srk movie in "talkies". i was so happy i was gonna cry finally in a theatre and wept i did. he was so fucking good in this kajol's comeback directed by karan johar. lots of tears. and some more. 9/11 background but it's a love story still. he should have won the national award and that jury will end up in hell someday :)

3. Veer-Zaara: romeo and juliet's tragedy is nothing compared to veer-zaara's. the songs the music the acting the actors the director the writer everything was just so good. a lot of people don't know this but eye acting was actually invented by shah rukh khan

4. Dil to Pagal Hai: a musical about a musical the soundtrack slayyyyed then it slayyyys now. underrated on current tumblr but i think i am starting to prefer that because DTPH is mine. i never had a crush on shahrukh but if any character of his ever came close it was from this movie. one of his sexiest characters imo. did i mention the songs were way too good.

5. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham: shahrukh really cries like children do. who knew weeping can have range. great songs great cast. kajol in orange. srk in see-through shirts. it's actually a family drama but it's fun also his mother in the movie has a superpower.

6. Om Shanti Om: no bollywood movie has ever bollywooded the way OSO did. love friendship reincarnation hero heroine villain nepotism revenge action comedy great music (and one more thing but that's a huge spoiler) it really just had everything. one of the finest masala movies ever made. it's tumblr's favourite as it should be. also this movie is how i learnt san francisco rhymes with disco

if you're in the mood for thrillers

7. Baazigar: the directors were having trouble finding the lead actor because nobody wanted to take the risk then srk told the producer that nobody can play this role as good as he can and he became the first actor in the history of filmfare to win the best actor award after playing a negative role. a cult classic.

8. Darr: it's the 90s it's the hero heroine villain era when the audiences think the people who play villains are bad people irl and dislike them. sunny deol an already established "hero" is the hero of the movie and srk is the villain a scary stalker and what happened was that the audiences really loved him instead. (my sister got scared of him enough that she started crying in the theatre and my parents had to leave mid-movie a wuss). something that couldn't have been achieved by just anyone except the future king of bollywood. oh lots of switzerland. also the legendary director of the movie kinda adopted srk and started casting him in every movie of his afterwards.

Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa: i was younger than 4 srk wasn't my favourite "hero" yet but his character from this movie was my first blorbo. my murderous rage awakened for him. the first character i ever related to was also from this movie. gangster uncle 🤜🏾🤛🏾 me. srk was so baby (he was like 28) there was also ra ra rasputin in this. srk loves this movie so do i.

The West Wing is a TV show about a fictional Presidential administration. In this particular episode, they have finally managed to secure the nomination of their preferred candidate to the Supreme Court.

This was a multi-episode struggle, so understandably everyone is pretty pleased, and they are having a bit of a party in The West Wing (ooh, it’s the name of the show!).

Everyone is spread around different rooms, chatting and drinking and revelling in their political success, but whispers of an upcoming event start drawing them all together.

As viewers, we are led to wonder what this could possibly be — is she going to impersonate a Jackal? Is it code for something even more outrageous? Why are they all so excited and converging on her like they’re about to witness something as scandalously titillating as The Entertainment from Infinite Jest?

No, instead we see her lip-syncing with almost zero energy to The Jackal, by Ronny Jordan feat. Dana Bryant.

If this had been on Ru Paul’s Drag Race the Internet would have broken from the sheer lack of slay. Cries of ‘Noooo, Queen!’, would abound. The level of charisma is almost purposefully non-existent, but all the other characters are losing their minds over it.

‘Don’t talk to me during the Jackal’, says Toby, sanctifying the experience further.

Usually, when a piece of media teases something as monumentally mind-blowing as The Jackal, they don’t show it to you. They instead show restraint and maintain the mystery, because whatever they could show would never be able to live up to the hype they have built for it.

There is a reason that Infinite Jest never tells us what happens in The Entertainment (a film so engrossing that anyone who watches it dies of addictive bliss), or that Gavin and Stacey never explicates what happened on the Fishing Trip (an ill-fated excursion into a storm).

Trying to explain them removes the intrigue — when these things exist in the realm of speculation they are far more compelling.

The Jackal demonstrates why it is sometimes best to go against the ‘show, don’t tell’ maxim of storytelling.

Onto the episode, which was between Cardiff and St Andrews.

Here’s your first starter for ten.

Buffet-Mogel kicks things off with a rapid buzz of the Count of Monte Cristo, winning a bonus set on island-based animals. They are perhaps harshly penalised for saying Tasman devil instead of Tasmanian devil.

Rosas extends St Andrews’ lead with Gibraltar, before Tarsala gets Cardiff off the mark with masala. She stumbles a little over the word, as if realising in the moment how similar it is to her own name when Tilling announces her.

Gilbert closes the gap further with the picture starter, and gives Cardiff the lead with Japan on the next buzzer question.

Holm extends this with Rossini, and the Welsh side are on a roll now. Boyling becomes the fourth member of their team to take a starter with Gamma.

Skerrett wins the music bonuses for St Andrews with mahjong on the replacement starter. They don’t know any of them, and Rajan chides them as if listening to any music not from this era makes them culturally vacuous.

Capell goes for the obvious guess of The Turner Prize on a question about an art prize won by someone British, winning St Andrews a bonus set on countries which have a different starting letter in English and German.

They dilly-dally a little on the second of these, prompting Rajan to say, ‘Hurry up and give yourselves a chance of a high score.’ However, at this point, they are a mere 15 points behind, with more than 5 minutes left in the episode, and indeed they took the lead on the very next question.

They don’t hold it for long though, because Holm and Cardiff tied them with base on the following starter, before Tarsala stole the lead with Inuit.

Skerrett managed to bring St Andrews back level, but Cardiff didn’t give them another opening, claiming the last three starters and romping to a misleadingly comfortable win.

St Andrews will most likely return as a high-scoring loser as Rajan had encouraged, as all three losing teams from the final three episodes would need to beat their score to push them out.

Cardiff enter the second round as a very well-rounded team, their eleven starters being almost equally distributed among all four team members.

Last Movie/TV Show: I've been going through Doctor Who with my spouse! We put a pause on it to play through BG3, and because it's the part of the show where my interest flagged (I am... not a fan of Eleven and Clara's dynamic). I think the last episode we watched was "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS," which actually might be my favourite with Clara so far. I do think it suffered from the thing Moffat does where character bonds are changed off-screen, because it was only her third episode, maybe, and it felt like we were meant to assume she was around longer.

Sweet/Spicy/Savory: It really depends on my mood, but savoury is probably my favourite. I'm not a huge fan of cakes and sweets, either.

Current Obsession: Judging from the state of my queue it's BG3. I'm really enjoying it, which I'm relieved about b/c I was a little afraid that the part of the fandom made up of ex-DA fans would sour my opinion of the game itself. Oh, I don’t know. I think anon hate is so pathetic that I don’t even make note of it. Even antis needing to be nasty about a ship or interest I have amuse me more than anything else. Anon asks demanding that I post or demanding to know when I’m posting something can be pressuring and rude. It can make me feel like I’m not doing enough or that I’m failing readers, so probably one of those. Those can actually hurt.
