maria hill’s character backstory is so devastating, i will never forgive mcu for never exploring it.

first of all, maria hill was born in chicago on a bitterly cold night. as maria entered the world, her mother died while giving birth to her, leaving maria to grow up with an abusive father who blamed her for his wife’s death. because of that, maria grew up to be a self-sufficient, self-preserved and independent woman who later joined the army. she was later recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. due to her exceptional skillset.

invincible iron man (2008)

during one of maria’s first S.H.I.E.L.D. missions she inadvertently caused the death to a fellow angent which overwhelmed her to the point of arranging her own assassination. nick fury recognized the internal struggle and resolved to help her by erasing maria’s memories of the mission, granting her a fresh start. ever since then, maria ascended the ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D very quickly, earning the title of commander and ultimately of the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Getting deep into the x men fandom means seeing ships I don't agree with, so I don't interact, seeing posts that mischaraterizes one of the deepest charaters possible, so I don't interact, Seeing people actively say things that are blatantly wrong, so I don't interact.

Getting a large following is also kind of frustrating (Im not complaining I love you guys!) But I've had to block 2 people already today because they keep leaving rude replies to my comments on OTHER peoples posts or purposly come to my blog to tell me that how I view a charater is wrong. Had someone tell me that the stuff that happens in MY au is dumb because "that would never happen" like yeah bud. The writers at Marvel are too much of cowards for it to happen, hence why i'm here.

So my thing is... if im chosing not to interact with all of this- why is it still on my feed?

I feel like the more I ignore it the more I see and I do not wish to be the type to block someone simply because they make one post about a ship that personally isn't my cup of tea.

Also- I think Im starting to see the different sides of extremes, especially when it comes to one specifc charater.

I have seen dozens of lovely stories, lovely rants, lovely head canons about this man-

But something that feels weird (to me at least) is people who are 45+ yelling at people who aren't even 18 that their story/headcanons are trash because they've "been enjoying Logan for 40+ years" as if this gives them any right to tell a 17 year old that they shouldnt write a charater how they see them.

It's also weird to me that there seems to be two sides.

Logan IS an animal and that's perfectly okay.

Or

Logan ISN'T an animal, and everyone who headcanons him as animalistic is fetishizing his mutation and are insulting him.

I get not liking a certain trope, but sir, that person is young enough to be your child. You have to accept that we all grew up with different versions of each charater. I Personally didn't grow up with any and get the luxury of indulging in all sorts of media all at once- therefore getting to see him from multiple sides and pictures.

I completely understand if you grew up with the original series and are upset to see that kids are headcanoning your stone cold angst biker man as wearing bow clips and 'making biscuits' on a pillow while watching gilmore girl with his boyfriend, and wearing pink fluffy hello kitty pants and a tight shirt that says "Milk"

I completely understand if you grew up with the movies and see him as a sexy gruff hot buff man and you love to write lots and lots of steamy x reader about him.

Do you know what I don't understand? Fighting over a charater when different timelines have been canon since the 80s. The Time Variance Authority (TVA) first appeared in Thor #372 (October 1986) which means ALL of your logans are the correct logan. Just not all the same.

Do I think Wolverine Orgins Logan would wear pink hello kitty pants? Nah.

Do I know that Deadpool and wolverine Logan is a whole different universe then Orgins Logan? Yes.

That's why people tag different logans and different aus. So what is all the fuss about?? What happened to the more the merrier?

Theres so many different versions of comic book logan, too, so don't even go there.

Feel free to ask my personal opinions but as far as I stand I could never be foolish enough to seriously go into someone elses post and genuinely be upset at them for how they perceive a charater. I get second hand embaressment when ever I see ANYONE doing it.

re:different interpretations of a particular character across media. Not the same anon but I think an accessible point of comparison is in comics especially Marvel or DC where different characters are regularly reimagined and can sometimes vastly differ depending on the writer and story that writer wants to tell. Like the Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie is vastly different from how she was originally conceived (and even from movie to movie depending on who’s directing). And they’re both different than how she is in the animated Harley Quinn Show or who’s writing her in the comics. They’re allowed to act differently because they’re operating in different roles for different purposes. Transformers has basically always functioned like this too. The Harley in B:TAS isn’t going to act like the one in the Harley Quinn show because it would be out of character for that version of her, the same way you wouldn’t expect Starscream from Transformers Animated to act like the one in Prime. Not to say these shows don’t have their issues, but I just bring it up to express that continuity wise it’s more about maintaining internal consistency within the story and the following through if you set something up to be payed off eventually then adhering to strict rules for a specific character.

Yes! I think that's what I was kinda getting at myself (I feel like I lost my point in the post and the subject maybe, because now I'm rereading it and it's more of op saying "he's within his character to act this way!" And that's ok! 100%) but yes anon this is kinda what I was getting at.

Esspcially since I used to be a very big Marvel fan, these characters have seen so many variants of each other. Even in uts own media, Loki being a great example both in and out of comic, in the mcu and his own show.

There are Loki variants, they all kinda uobokd these "Loki like" traits, however they are their OWN person ,their OWN Loki. With different stories, roles, personalities that make them unquie but still inherently Loki.

I feel this way with Starscream and his Variants. As you said TFa and TFP are , both Starscreams but they are very different. They share the deviousness, cunning, and backstabbing nature. They both are kiss asses who won't hesitate to kill you if he sees an opening. But put them in a room they are so different in how they go about things.

I feel Tfa is way more stubborn and head strong, wanting to be cunning but also lieo LEMME KILL THIS BITCH IM SO DONE BEING SUBTLE- while TFP is way more prone to cowarding away from things. It fits both their narratives and their responses to their own Megatron. Because TFA Megs is NOTHING like TFP in the slightest.

Same as G1 and Sky bound Starscream. Look the same, BUT ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING THE SAME. Sjosjdjdd who have a smol silly villian for giggles to literally murderous psychopath. Lol

I think that is my problem with TF:ES and Armada going into the rest of the trilogy. Is the Obvious want to step away from these inherently Starscream characterization, and IMMEDIATELY backpedleing.

You can not, set up this character to lead into an arc, to address these issues and then. Not only abandon it. But use a poor excuse of exposition, to say "Well Starscream does what he does." When in the VERY SAME SHOW, you have SHOWN his actions to contradict that very explanation.

No it is not in Earthspark Starscream's character to do and be bad because that 1. Wasn't established to be the case and 2. The episode of his introduction was literally based off of "Starscream is as selfish as they come" and SHOWING that statement to be FALSE by saving Hashtag.

I get the perspective that , Starscream can and should be allowed to be evil/bad as he has always been. You're allowed to enjoy that ! You're allowed to enjoy him that ! I do in his variants even if I make not like the media he come that time (looks at Sky bound) but I can appricate it.

However, it is also allowed to want more than this copy paste character for him. Because he is allowed to be different for each story, esspcially if the story sets him up that way.

I think as the reader/audience the biggest problem, with not just Transformers, but things like Marvel/DC, anything adjacent that has reoccurring characters of different variants to just. Is to have the expectation that they MUST abide by these characters "rules". And that to break them, is to some how destroy the character. People are allowed to want more for a character in a franchise that is not afraid to change up their characters. For better or even somtimes for worse, not everything will go well (Bayverse COUGH) but its a different take. And there is a reason some ppl prefer these things that are not aligned with the norm. because its different.

Yes Starscream can be evil, and that's ok. But wanting some change ina a franchise where these characters have seen so many changes in design, character, personality and backstroy. It is also vaild to want to see Starscream take into those changes and commit to them. He doesn't have to be a super ubber sweetheart, but it be nice for him to be a lil better and be able to come around like other cons do.

Silver Age Magneto is an abusive coward

Silver Age Magneto was not just a coward, but a straight up fascist. He abused all his terrified underlings, but his treatment of Wanda especially was vile. In this panel he's abandoning his Brotherhood (and the country of Santo Marco) to death by nuke, but fortunately Quicksilver defuses it. You'd think this would be a moral event horizon, but it has been handled in various ways over the years, mostly overlooked and overshadowed by more recent sins.

Chris Claremont used his being turned into a baby in Defenders as an argument before the ICC that he'd been 'returned to a state of grace' - effectively a new person. In many ways he was, with his Silver Age cackling generic supervillainy replaced with a deeply traumatized man who will do anything to avoid another Holocaust. He goes wayyy too far, of course, but he does realise that.

None of this addresses his abuse of his on and off again children, Wanda and Pietro. That has been more their characterisation than his, likely because they were handled by different editorial offices. Magneto has existed in a state of Schrödinger's abuser where his kids are concerned - some writers ignore it entirely and some centre it as the eternal conflict. I liked how his Silver Age character was handled in Resurrection of Magneto, but with the amount of retcons and the decades since, it feels like it both did and didn't happen.

Mags has turned over a new leaf. In Scarlet Witch (2024) he's incredibly cruel to Pietro, and in Avengers #21 he and Wanda are very close, pointedly referring to each other as father and daughter. Human beings are contradictory, especially fictional ones with dozens of writers involved, but it seems to me that ignoring the abuse happened is a bit of a cop out. I think his epiphany and mission to be a better man should start with an earnest litigation of his original sin. Wanda has decided she does want him in her life and Pietro decided he doesn't, but it's never directly mentioned (or if it was, I missed it.)

I think it should be, but similar to Wanda's long time sexist and ableist treatment, Marvel comics doesn't seem equipped to handle it.

(I was an active writer for marvel between civil war and infinity war, but i deleted that old blog and all my stuff with it in an impulse decision like three years ago. Now marvel stopped being cowards and let some witches kiss and for some reason that inspired me so much i have to write fanfic again.

I’m including Natasha.), American Horror Story (mostly the girlies/mostly Sarah Paulson characters with a pinch of Misty Day), anything I might be into at the moment (I started playing baldurs gate, i might throw a blurb from that in here and there!)

I‘m excited to be back to this! I haven’t been writing for over two years and I missed it. No real plans yet, I might start looking for prompts and dialogue starters, and I have a few WIPs I‘m gonna get to work on. Love y’all, see you out there!

Oh Agatha binding Jen was insulting on so many levels. Sasheer and Kathryn were AMAZING but the writing was pathetic. It really bothers me that Jen is a total afterthought, like Alice, gives me very White vibes off that writers room - Alice didn't get any exploration or depth until her trial and then she's dead but you can't criticise it because the whole point is that it's unfair and you're a meanie if you point out racist media patterns just like we're just bitter d*kes for pointing out the lesbophobia and misogyny. Jen though, lmao wow they really did just fucking forget her in the end like there is not even superficial closure she just flies off and Billy and Agatha don't even mention her again. And the binding- it's like they wrote it wanting a cool twist to drive home Agatha being a villain but were chickenshit about the racist implications and no "it's in Agatha's character to deflect" isn't an excuse because where's the writers discussing any of this shit in interviews? Cowards. Jen being bound by a white woman who she thought she was forming a coven with and learning to trust should've been a moment that got so much more than it did, look at Sasheer's face and she is doing all of the work to convey the horror and hurt and rage because the writing did fuck all to recognise a Black woman's pain. And it doesn't even make sense, why the hell would Agatha ever help a man abainst a witch? Why would she need money when shes at best been existing on the fringes of society and has no compunctions about stealing things? And Agatha already knew how long Jen had been bound, she has history with Jen thwt includes some other mess, she knew Jen was a midwife and considered her work important, how the fuck wouldn't she know it was her? It's so stupid. It does a disservice to both characters because casting Agatha as a racist misogynist woman which is what the last 2 episodes djd runs against her characterisation and the supposed themes of the show and the writing and fans won't grapple with it, and Jen's journey is completely glossed over and practically rewritten. We aren't going to see her deal with the trauma of this, she barely got five minutes on screen processing this horrific violent betrayal before she was conveniently zipped away, and her reclaiming her power was incredible acting but taking it back from Agatha stole some if the wind out of it - Alice and Lilia got to own their moments, they needed to believe in themselves, Jen's moment was building to that for 7 episodes and then oh actually it was Agatha who won't take the moment seriously (no shade to Kathryn, you could see how present she was for Sasheer) and Jen was really magicless the whole time.

oh!! Oh!!! We going there with the racial implications of being bound by a white woman 😭😭😭 as a person of color I hear you and understand how it looks. I think one interviewer brought it up to Jac. About how powerful that moment was of her reclaiming her power in that way. Pretty sure she said something along the lines of: "The scene wasn't written that way but she let Sasheer do her thing." Don't quote me on that but if someone finds it lemme know. I also read somewhere that Jennifer Kale will definitely be in more marvel projects because her cousin is ghost rider. So we shall see how that unfolds.

I just wanted to say that in that post about deadpool and wolverine’s queerness, you are like 1000% in the right. Normally I don’t feel this strongly about stuff but anyone who thinks that Disney seriously and earnestly “delivered” on deadpool (and wolverine?) being queer is delusional

I mean, I love the movie. I’ve seen it twice and giggled my way through it both times. Obviously I enjoy the queer aspect of their relationship. But what you said about being able to be critical of your favorite media is important. The fact that people are arguing that there are no issues with the gay jokes in d&w but ACTUALLY it’s all indicative of a genuinely made film about two queer men is like actually SO crazy

Thank you, yes! The movie is absolutely amazing in the fact it's funny and well written. And yes I like the gay jokes, they're cheeky and enjoyable. But I think they'd be more enjoyable if any amount of Wade's (and also Logan's) queerness was taken seriously. Even just a little seriously.

I think the part that annoyed me about the movie most was Wade breaking up with Vanessa. Yeah it works for the movie and his character development. But at the same time I can't help but assume the reasoning for it was so queer people could go "hey they're both single, maybe just maybe Deadpool and Wolverine will get together?" No they won't this is Disney. He'll probably be back together with Vanessa eventually (even if it's not immediately).

Like I said on the comments of the post you're referring to; saying this is good queer rep is just an excuse so Disney (and Marvel) doesn't have to actually try to make good representation. The MCU has had many issues like this before. The single Loki bisexual conversation only for them to chicken out on the mlm ship they were hinting at in S2 promotions. Loki also being labeled as genderfluid in promo stuff just for him to be referred to as a male Loki and such. Characters who are canonically bisexual in the comics like Starlord showing absolutely zero hints to their queerness. Eternals is the only real representation I can think of, but it felt very one note and boring. Like that whole movie.

In conclusion Deadpool is a great movie but my biggest gripe is just that the queer aspect is not taking seriously. As much as I love the Honda Odyssey scene, it would be cool if it wasn't just a weird mix of coding/bait. Queer coding is still a great writing tool. Using metaphors for queerness in fantasy can be fun. But the reason queer coding existed in the first place is because you weren't allowed to show any queer people on screen. But times have changed! You can show it, but Disney are cowards. The movie is also queerbaity as they set up things like Vanessa's break up only to start them almost back up again with Logan himself telling Wade to go for the girl. Not to mention all the promotional posters like Deadpool and Wolverine as Beauty And The Beast. Disneyland Deadpool is also being VERY heavy on the gay jokes, which makes me feel like they KNOW who their main target audience was gonna be with this movie, but they still need to cater to the movie dudebros as well. Maybe one day guys, maybe.

It's important to be critical of even your favorite media. If you weren't then it could never improve. Let your voices be heard! And to the people who think movies don't deserve such debate; why do you think that? So many people say that so they don't have to discuss representation in media but then turn around and rant about the comic accuracy. Also what do you think happens in a writers room? Criticism is important in media even to professionals. A movie is a group effort, many people had different ideas that eventually came together and made Deadpool 3. They also probably had many ideas that were shut down and not put in Deadpool 3 for various reasons. Some most likely being criticisms.

Ok I'm done ranting now. Deadpool 3, great movie, one of my favorites. But it would have benefited not only itself by being true to Wade and Logan letting them be their authentic queer selves; But it also would have benefited the queer community.

Over the years I have found that actors who are great friends for real life have the best chemistry onscreen. You can't manufacture that kind of chemistry. It's just natural. The physicality. The effortless comfortability they have around each other. The fire chemistry. These couples are James Lafferty and Bethany Joy Lenz from One Tree Hill who were great friends for real and are still close to this day. They've been to many comic cons and the chemistry is still on full display at these events (Nathan and Haley), Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes from Dawson's Creek dated for real life and remained friends even after breakup. Josh said that Katie was his closest friend on set (Pacey and Joey), Jaleel White and Kellie Shanygne Williams from Family Matters were friends onset and Kellie recently said how she had a crush on Jaleel. They recently were reunited in an interview and their chemistry is still fire (Steve and Laura), Tom Welling and Erica Durance from Smallville were great friends. I love to hear Tom talk about Erica because there's clearly so much respect and love between them. They really loved to work with each other (Clark and Lois), Kennedy McMann and Alex Saxon from Nancy Drew are great friends. I don't know much else about their relationship. I just know that Kennedy has said they are close friends and also Kennedy is a big supporter of the Nace ship. I've also heard of little improvs and story ideas that they came up with for Nace so they clearly are very simpatico (Nancy and Ace), Erin Moran and Scott Baio from Happy Days dated on and off through the years (Chachi and Joanie), Rachel Brosnahan and Luke Kirby from The Marvelous Mrs Maisel are amazing friends. And this is another situation of two actors who really support each other and have a huge amount of respect for each other (Midge and Lenny) what all these couples have in common is that they are friends and/or romantically involved. One or both of the actors in each ship are major supporters or shippers of their characters together, they all have had amazing chemistry all through the years even after the shows ended, they all respect each other as actors and each other's talents, they all have fire chemistry that remained strong through the entire run of the shows, and insane physicality where they are so comfortable with each other and and great at adding little physical intimacies to their fictional relationships.

Some chemistry you can sort of manufacture. You can create the long looks, the stolen glances, the yearning, the jealousy. But then there's the upper echelon of TV couples that just have it all. They have all these things but the chemistry endures past the yearning stage 💖

Then there are some couples who maybe weren't overly close. They either hated each other or just got along but weren't super close and those couples mostly have that manufactured chemistry and I'm not saying that it doesn't take talent to do that. It takes acting talent and some of it is genuine. Also this chemistry is not bad. I love the long looks and the stolen glances but these types of couples need long ass slowburns because some of that naturally goes away when they get together like the yearning and stolen glances for instance. They don't have those crutches to fall back on and all they have is that little bit of genuine chemistry. I do wanna clarify that I have always hated when writers make couples on and off unnecessarily. Give them the slowburn but keep them together once they get together you cowards lol

There are other couples with insane chemistry who are close for real life but I had to end this post sometime but they exist and those are special ships to be sure! 💗

With the episodes of Secret Invasion that Daisy is rumoured to be in drawing nearer… my crippling anxiety about how her potential return (if she returns) is going to pan out is getting worse, so imma state all the things I NEED to happen if she does come back, otherwise… I don’t know if I want her to (after all, her ending on AOS will forever be solid in my eyes too…)

One, this one is a given, but she NEEDS to be played by Chloe Bennet. There’s no ifs, ands or buts about it. Chloe IS Daisy, and vice versa. If it’s anyone except Chloe, we. don’t. want. it.

Two, I desperately like at least some original writers/showrunners/producers/whatever from AOS to be directly involved with whatever project she’s in (Secret Invasion, etc), so that we have people who already KNOW and CARE for Daisy advocating for her character- and so there’s much less of a chance for her character to be “ruined” (my BIGGEST fear). Jed and Maurissa PLS don’t let them butcher her I beg I BEGGG 🙏🏻

Three, I don’t want her backstory erased. Absolutely not. That is another dealbreaker for me. Daisy’s family is what helped make her who she is, and I cannot imagine a world where she doesn’t have them. ;-; This includes making her a mutant. I… NO. Being an Inhuman ALSO makes her who she is, and is such an integral part of her character. I cannot imagine this being erased.

Four, sorta to add on to three, I would actually die HAPPY if we also saw characters like Sousa and Kora again (give us more Dousy, you COWARDS, I once again BEG), and even if they’re not in it, I need them at least mentioned (and that they’re all well and good too). Same as the rest of the team.

That is it I think, sorry for the long-ish post, just needed it off my chest because I don’t see almost anyone else seeming to care about this. ;-; As I’ve mentioned before, I’m simply TERRIFIED they’re gonna do this wrong.
