Love Bites: Romantic Operatic Fuckery
Yep, this again lol.
The vampire coerces the werewolf into going to see a bit of Mozart. Sort of.
As a reminder: Vampires. Werewolves. They do what those creatures do.
____________________
“I listened to some of this,” Marrok says.  “I thought Mozart was all about some funny and happy shit. This ain’t that.”
“Did you believe that I would not take you to something worthy of your ears?” Lucian gestures to the curtained stage. “This is ‘Don Giovanni,’ one of Mozart's most grand achievements.”
“Hmn, okay.”  Marrok scratches the space beneath his chin with a curved nail.  “What’s it about?”
Lucian smiles, the tips of his fangs showing.  “Promiscuity, infidelity, and murder.”
“Huh.”  Marrok sits back in his seat, dark hair spilling over one shoulder.  “That actually sounds . . . good.”
“It is more than ‘good.’ It is magnificent.”
Much like his companion on this fine evening.  Marrok is dressed in unrelenting black, a combination of his own design with a jacquard vest beneath a more modern tailcoat with strategically placed metal studs that is more “goth rock” than it is operatic formal attire.  But Lucian has no complaints.  The mere fact that the werewolf is wearing a coat of sorts is nearly unheard of, a concession that he has made purely for Lucian’s sake.
The sentiment has not gone unnoticed.
He nudges Marrok’s thigh with his own, lays his hand upon it with a squeeze. “Have I told you, mon cher, that you look lethal and divine?”
“You have.”  Marrok leans in close enough to run the utmost tip of his tongue along the shell of Lucian’s ear.  “But you can say it again.”
“Rapscallion,” Lucian says.
Marrok flashes him a smile that showcases both sets of canines. “Don't fuck with me or you'll be watching my face instead of the stage while I devour you.”
“Right here? Amongst all of these mortal gazes?” Lucian feigns a gasp, one hand upon his heart. “Why, I am scandalized!”
“Yeah,” Marrok rumbles. “Just like this.”
Massive hands cup Lucian's face and Marrok kisses him with brief, but passionate fervor.
“Well,” Lucian murmurs against his mouth.  “Scandalous, indeed.”
The lights dim and the overture begins and Lucian is grateful for the change in lighting.  Why must mortals have the interior of everything bright as the midday sun?  Infuriating, to say the least.  At least he could manage without the sunglasses indoors.
For the most part.
The effects of his latest sunlit excursion still persist, however.  Twenty minutes into the performance, Marrok is silent and attentive to the onstage antics.  Not at all what Lucian had expected.
There is, of course, the occasional wince during a piercingly high note from the soprano or the ghastly idiocy of the assistant principal violinist, who clearly has the ear of deaf man.  Lucian himself does his fair share of teeth grinding aggravation.
“The fuck is wrong with that guy?”  Marrok’s breath is warm against his ear.  “The violin player.  I’m about to go break that screech plank over his head.”
Lucian nods. “Would it be unethical of me to drain him for such heresy?”
“No,” Marrok scoffs a laugh.  “I’d eat his heart in a fucking second.”
“Hmn.  Better perhaps to consume his fingers, non?”
Marrok chuckles. “Something like that.”
And while Lucian does his best to feign that nothing is out of the ordinary, things within his body are certainly amiss.  Particularly within his sinuses.
Now?  His immortal body is choosing this moment for such nuisances?  Honestly . . .
Lucian rifles through his inner coat pocket and cups the still-folded handkerchief in his palm for an instant before clamping it over his nose to muffle a tightly contained “Hhhuh–NKGT!”  His breath hitches and his chest heaves. “. . . IHHKGGTCH!”
Marrok's hand  lights upon his own and squeezes. “You okay?”
Lucian nods with a sniffle. “Yes, mon cher.”
He tucks the handkerchief back into his jacket as Marrok's arm settles around his shoulders.
He does, however, lean into the gesture just a touch, which elicits a dark rumble of approval from his companion.
But putting away the handkerchief so soon was not the soundest decision. A pre-incident paralysis seizes him and he stifles the sound against the back of his hand with a clenching “--NXGT!” The one that follows is near silent, but the shuddering of his shoulders is far more pronounced.
“Goddamn,” Marrok swears under his breath with such displaced frustration that Lucian chuckles.
“Tres désolée,” ¹ Lucian says. “I could not prevent it.”
“Oh, fuck off,” Marrok says, but the words hold no true irritation now.
After a good hour or so, the end of the first act signals an intermission and the werewolf clearly needs some air.
Or perhaps, something more vital.
______________________________________________________
A brisk walk around the fountain seems to cool the werewolf's near boiling need just a touch, which is, of course, amplified by the impending full moon.
“You're making it hard for me to pay attention to the damn story,” Marrok says, his fingers laced through Lucian's own.
The vampire offers him a coy smirk. “And for this, I am not sorry.”
“I'm so goddamn shocked.” Marrok rolls his eyes. “You French fuck.”
Lucian laughs, but the sound is cut short by the very thing that has been incensing his companion for much of the evening.
He  holds up a hand in a halting gesture and leans away, the other hand pressed against his against the side of his nose in deflection.
“Hhih-iiih. . . ! HiihIESSCHHUh! –UhhISSCH! Hhk. . . ISSSCH–iiUUH!”
The way his shoulders heave and shudder in such a horrid betrayal of decorum is mortifying, but not nearly as much as the fact that he has misplaced his handkerchief. Which, of course, had forced this ghastly display of indecency in the first place.
But Marrok has come to his rescue, pressing a clean fold of cotton into his palm.
“Ah, such keen foresight you have,” he says, his voice softened and a bit breathless from the covert indiscretions of his body. “Mon dieu, that came upon me with such suddenness.”
“Yeah.” Marrok's voice is a low, penetrative bass. “Yeah, it did.” He grabs the edge of Lucian's coat and pulls him into a claiming embrace. “I kinda feel like I should say something to you.”
“What something?” Lucian arches an eyebrow.
“Whatever it is that humans say to each other. They still say it, right?”
He laughs at the absurdity of the thought, as does his companion.
“Indeed, they do.” Lucian smirks as he meets the werewolf’s stare. “But that would be nonsensical, non? Blessing the damned.”
“But. . .'' Lucian drags a nail along the most delicate skin of Marrok's neck near the base of his throat. “You may say it to me, if it pleases you.”
“Nah, it's weird.” Marrok's claws sink into the shoulder of his coat. “Gonna do this instead.”
Marrok cups Lucian's face between his massive palms and imparts a growling kiss unto his lips.
“I'm wanna eat your fucking face,” Marrok murmurs against his mouth.
“Mmn, and here I believed your kind to be far more partial to the heart.”  Lucian nips at his lower lip and Marrok’s growl becomes increasingly more wolf and less human.
The werewolf pulls back enough to showcase just how gleaming yellow his eyes have become, a tiny beading of blood upon his bottom lip.  And the ears.  Marrok never had bothered to hide those.  Decidedly pointed. And of course, the canines.
What a magnificent, intimidating beast.  Remarkable in both mind and body.  Truly lethal, yet with the capability for chivalry and decorum.
Lucian slides a hand over Marrok's cheek, nails skimming the skin with the most delicate of touches.
“Je t’aime,” ² he murmurs.
Marrok cocks his head, ensnaring the fingers in his own.  “Yeah?” He pulls Lucian into a tight cinch of an embrace, pressing his forehead to that of his companion.  “You're mine.”  The kiss that follows is breath-stealing in its claim. “Say it.”
Lucian’s voice is like warm velvet, softened by the wind. “I belong to only you.” He brushes a kiss over the hollow of Marrok's throat where the skin is visible and enticing through the cover of his scarf. “Only. To you.”
Amber eyes flash back to bright yellow. “Je t'aime aussi.” ³
For once, the werewolf's accent is near perfection.
“Ooh.” Lucian shivers, taken aback, a hand upon his chest. “You have been practicing, non?”
“Maybe.” Marrok tucks a loose strand of pale golden hair behind Lucian's ear. “Wanna skip the second half of this and go for a hunt instead?”
“Such a romantic,” Lucian says.
But he concedes to the change in plans nonetheless.

Legacy Post - The Knightwolf AU: Timeline
TLDR: shin and marrok grew up together but got separated for 10 years and are a couple during ahsoka. He comes back after the dusting. They have a redemption arc and settle down somewhere with a tooka to heal.
Notes: At the start of Ahsoka (9ABY), Marrok is 29 and Shin is 27.
>14 BBY
Shin and Marrok both grew up poor on a planet in the outer rim. They got lucky and found or stole or made the money to send Marrok off world to an imperial academy. The plan was that, once he had graduated and made enough money, he would come back for her and their families.
He got picked up by the inquisitor program, but his family was told he was killed in some sort of accident. Everyone was devastated, but life had to go on.
1 BBY - 3 ABY
Baylan found Shin at 17 and she went to train with him. She sent portions of what they earned as mercenaries home to her and Marrok’s families when she could.
4 ABY
Marrok ran into Baylan and Shin after being seriously injured while fleeing the fall of the empire. He stayed with them for about a week or two until he was healed. It had been almost 10 years, so he and Shin didn’t recognize each other.
Stuff happened. Marrok left to go do his own thing but bumped into them a few more times. He started working as a mercenary.
He and Shin weren’t quite close friends, but they would check up on each other every so often over the next year or so. Something felt.. familiar about the other. But they didn’t know how to explain it and never brought it up.
If Baylan and Shin were not already working for Morgan Elsbeth full time, they begin doing so during this year. They still took other jobs, but she always had work for them and she always paid the best.
5 ABY
Marrok was looking for work and Baylan introduced him to Morgan.
After a trial period, Morgan had Marrok sign a contract with some very fine print. She used some sort of Force power to make him “resistant to death” and to strengthen him physically. (He had chronic pain due to nerve damage from that injury.) In return, he would “serve her.” He quickly learned that meant literal headaches if he deliberately disobeyed her, but he didn’t find out what “resistant to death” meant until later.
Morgan did not reveal that she was a nightsister until Ahsoka. Marrok had no idea how she did what she did and his research afterwards wasn’t turning up much.
Marrok and Shin’s skill sets complimented each other’s, and they were frequently assigned on missions together. They became close friends.
They obtained a space Wii. Shin was very competitive when it came to Mario Kart
Time passed. There was a late night “let’s talk about our pasts” bonding session, and they finally realized who the other was. There was a lot of crying. They were basically attached at the hip for a while afterwards.
6 ABY
They fell in love at some point in the first half of the year. It was absolutely adorable.
Shin had a near death experience and Marrok promised her forever if she’d just stay alive. She got better and they had a conversation about it. They agreed they were officially together. (They were basically already partners anyway, but the experience prompted them to actually talk about it instead of just vibing)
Marrok died for the first time. They were on a mission and something went wrong, but he woke up a few hours later at Morgan’s home base. Huh. Guess that’s what “death resistant” meant.
7 ABY
Morgan and Marrok got into a disagreement and she held the fact that his life was in her hands over his head. Marrok and Shin started quietly trying to figure out how to break his enchantment without permanently killing him.
I’m calling it an enchantment here for simplicity’s sake. They don’t know what to call it because they don’t even know what it is.
Marrok began to notice that his body was a tad less corporeal than it should’ve been. He started dropping things occasionally. Every once in a while, Shin’s hair would fall through his fingers unless he was thinking about it.
They finally had enough money to help their families move. Marrok wasn’t ready to see them yet, so Shin went alone. He gave her a pre-recorded message to give to his mom. It let her know he was alive, he didn’t chose to fake his death or to leave, he wasn’t ready to come home or explain what happened, he was safe now, and he still loved her and his dad. (and also that they owed Shin’s parents whatever they’d jokingly bet on them getting together someday when they were younger)
Marrok had a whole angst train when it came to his family. He’d done awful things, but Shin had too so he wasn’t ashamed around her. But them? He’d left. He hadn’t come back. He’d grown up to be someone he was sure his parents would hate. It was one of the things he’d had to bury in order to sleep at night. The inquisitor program had messed him up real hard, and his life with his family felt a whole other world away.
Shin and Marrok had gathered a list of Force traditions whose depictions were similar to whatever Marrok remembered Morgan doing.
The outlook wasn’t great. Most of the cultures that practiced these traditions had disappeared or been destroyed in the last 30 years. Primary research would be difficult.
Nightsisters were on the list. They were hoping that wasn’t them because what little info they could find was old and contradictory. Much like irl info on nightsisters 🤠 (give me the secrets cowboy hat man 😫)
8 ABY
They were getting desperate enough to start taking turns snooping around Morgan’s spaces. Research was still going slowly. They did figure out that Marrok’s soul was connected to one of Morgan’s crystals though.
They ended up at a point where they knew that Morgan knew that they wanted to break the enchantment. She kept the crystal poorly hidden. It would’ve been easy to steal but they didn’t know what to do with it or if Morgan could cancel the enchantment—and kill Marrok—from a distance. Shin swore she was taunting them.
Marrok died a second time and came back visibly transparent. Almost everything phased through him now unless he was wearing it. He didn’t seem to need to eat or sleep anymore. He started wearing his armor almost full time because it was easier for him to concentrate on making it interact with stuff than himself.
It was becoming obvious that Marrok didn’t have a lot of lives left. They’d been trying to break his enchantment for almost 2 years and had made little progress. Marrok still had some hope, but was preparing himself to say goodbye. Shin was absolutely in denial. They were going to figure it out. They had to.
Morgan had them busier than ever. They started having less and less time to devote to researching his enchantment. They didn’t know it yet, but the latter stages of the plan to bring back Thrawn were now in motion
9 ABY
Ahsoka captured Morgan and Shin and Baylan went on the mission to free her.
Episodes 1-4 of Ahsoka happened.
Morgan was having the time of her life being all cryptic and mysterious. Marrok wanted a nap. Baylan was glad they made bank working for her, because listening to her antagonize his daughter Shin at every opportunity would not have been worth it otherwise. Shin was fuming that after all this time Morgan just casually admitted what type of magic she uses and started performing it in front of them. They could have spent the last 2 years looking into nightsisters, maybe found an excuse to slip away to dathomir, but nooo they were breaking into academic libraries and playing nice with village elders to hear old wive’s tales.
When Ahsoka cut his armor in half, Marrok disappeared into a cloud of smoke. This hadn’t happened before. Shin was shocked but didn’t have any time to think about it because she was busy with Sabine. He didn’t show up for a while, and once the adrenaline wore off Shin thought he was well and truly dead. He came back as barely more than a shadow. It was a rough night. [Link to post]
Marrok wasn’t able to make himself show up super consistently and she hadn’t learned how to recognize his new force signature yet. The first few weeks after ep 4 were really angsty.
Post Episode 6
At the time of writing this, episodes 6 and on have not yet aired. I’ve got some ideas for what happens post canon, though I may eventually develop an alternate timeline that better fits what happens in the show.
Marrok embraces his ghost era and pokes around Morgan’s stuff whenever she’s gone. He finds a few key bits of information that become important later.
Marrok and Shin have redemption arcs. Shin apologizes to Sabine for stabbing her. And choking her. And taking her prisoner. It’s super awkward but Sabine appreciates it.
Ezra and Sabine settle down together on Lothal, and absolutely no one is surprised when they’re married before the year is out.
Shin and Marrok do eventually find a way to safely fix his enchantment.
Ezra and Marrok become total bros, but Sabine and Shin are still working through their issues with each other. They agree not to actually try to kill each other anymore, but they still end up fighting in a space-Dennys parking lot like once a month for a while.
The “everything all at once” era begins.
slaps the roof of the metaphorical knightwolf car: “these two can fit so much trauma in them” 🤠
for real though, nothing bad happens to them in this time. They’re just safe and stable for the first time.. ever. So now it’s time to process all that, and even with good professional help that’s going to be messy.
Also Marrok is dealing with chronic pain again now that his body isn’t magically buffed, which is never a good time. He’s in and out of surgery a lot for the first year or two.
Marrok brings home a completely black tooka. Shin is 100% that person who doesn’t want a pet but turns into a cat mom after 2 weeks.
It takes a few years, but Marrok is able to go visit his family. Explaining who he is now and where he’s been is a whole process but it eventually ends well.

I have to shout into the void real quick lol
Yes, I know that I can just rewatch the episodes on D+, but like...... I like edits and clips on YouTube, soo......... why are there SO MANY clips/edits of the Sabine v Shin woods fight where Shin's stance change is ABSOLUTELY FORGOTTEN????
All of them go from Shin looking in shock that Ahsoka killed Marrok, and then they just automatically go to the "you will regret this decision" line?????
Like
WHY ARE YOU SLEEPING ON HER BODY LANGUAGE? lol
Just like how I pointed out Sabine's body language right before that fight starts is one of my favorite things, Shin's stance when re-engaging Sabine after seeing Marrok die is IMPORTANT.
In that moment, Shin changes her approach to that fight. She's shaken not just because of the Nightsister magick, but because she HAS NOW SEEN AHSOKA'S POWER. And if that's how the Master is, then there may be something about the apprentice that she is underestimating, too.
Shin fights Sabine like a cat smacking a around their favorite toy lol she plays with her- especially since she already knows she beat her before.
But in this moment, her threat perception CHANGES. She now takes Sabine more seriously. She may even be... afraid.
Which makes the Force slap more interesting, because Shin realizes that she feared her for no reason lol
ITS TOO GOOD GUYS, COME ONNNNN lol

ive just been thinking about it so here are my initial thoughts
fucking marrok man. like wtf. i was legitimately excited for this guy, even though he kinda seemed like a one-note character, i was so excited to see what being an inquisitor was like after the empire was defeated, like it's almost a reversal of order 66 and now the hunters become the hunted. and if filoni has proven one thing, it's that making one-note characters more complex is kind of his specialty. but i GUESS NOT
the ahsoka-baylan duel...it was just not enjoyable for me. my interpretation is that they were trying for something similar to what obi-wan and maul did on tatooine in rebels, where they used lightsaber stances as non-verbal communication. in rebels it was obi-wan assuming his prequels/cw pose, then his original trilogy pose, then the pose that qui-gon used when maul killed him. maul thought he could use the same attack he did when he killed qui-gon, and his immediate defeat shows how obi-wan has thought about that day for years and years, and how he's always learning from his past, whereas maul only thinks about his past as a source of anger and motivation for revenge. in ahsoka they might have been using the stances to sort of gauge each other's knowledge of the jedi traditions, and i appreciate the different uses of this heavy reliance on star wars lore, but the payoff doesn't seem so satisfying. ahsoka dismisses talking about her past (and tbf, why wouldnt she, like this guy is trying to start another galaxy wide war) so we don't really get anything out of it all *SO FAR* i really hope the relationship between her and baylan evolves and this lightsaber thing becomes more important, but on the surface right now it just felt like another sorta boring lightsaber fight. but i would absolutely love to hear other people's thoughts on this and ill probably edit this once more people have seen it and posted about it
also where's zeb. we saw him in the mandalorian, we know he's there. where are you hiding him. we know he knows paul sun-hyung lee (i forgot his characters name). he would absolutely have come with hera. also morai
im usually a pretty conservative shipper, like i don't really care about ships (as long as they're ethical lmao) i just don't really engage with that part of fandom. i could get behind luke and ezra being together, there's some cool sun and moon imagery there and they sort of have contrasting stories, as @hashtagloveloses said once. zeb and kallus i don't mind either. but barrissoka is my everything. it is the one ship that i want to see SOOO BADLY FUCCCKK PLEASE DAVE YOU SAID YOU HAVE PLANS FOR BARRISS LIKE TEN YEARS AGO PLEASEE
but yeah shin and sabine would be pretty cool too, there's definitely a lot of tension there and even though we don't know much about her (i really want to learn more) it would be cool to see shin have someone truly care about her, not be her boss or anything, and have sabine learn to lean more into honesty expressing her affection, since she's always been really stoic and i think shin would need that sincerity in a relationship
and i already mentioned anakin in another post but fuck im so happy to see hayden chritsensen again man. even if his story is lackluster (which oh my god i hope it's not) im so happy to see him again ❤️
i also really hope anakin brings up some character development/exploration for ahsoka cause like. what has she been doing. this is probably the biggest problem i have with this show so far, or at least second biggest lmao. i like that they're taking time to explore different characters and relationships in the universe, but i really want to see ahsoka get more time to shine. when put in a leadership position, she's always been a little more serious (character development from that one time she led a while squad to their deaths cause she was careless), like when she was with the younglings when they got their kyber crystals, but that doesn't mean she's invincible/unfeeling. she has lots of feelings about anakin and obi-wan and ezra and sabine, and i really want to see them!! when she said it's better to destroy the map and lose ezra than let thrawn return and start a war, i want to see her struggle with that like sabine does because she misses ezra too! i get that she didn't want to talk about anakin with baylan but let her talk about him with someone else! hopefully her world between worlds experience will help with that. some of the most solid development we've seen with her so far is being upset by how much she's let people down, ie anakin, sabine. and baylan tries to play into that to make her feel bad. i feel like that certainly will be explored more but fuck. it's about time.
i also want to see her relationship with the jedi more fully explored. i had always assumed that, while she was deeply affected by order 66, she didn't regret her decision to leave the jedi order. i thought that barriss had shown her some of the problems with it, and that her supporting the siege of mandalore showed that she was able to pursue what she thought was important, not the jedi order who were being heavily controlled by the senate and the politics of the time. but she seems to feel guilty about the fact that she's not a jedi? that she somehow let them down by not confirming to a system she no longer believed in? idk if i just made that up in my head cause i like to think of it that way and that my hradcanon is interfering with my enjoyment of this show lmao, someone please tell me if it is
another big problem i have with the show so far is how much it relies on the audience being invested in these stories to supply dramatic weight. and i don't mean in the way that it doesn't explain who sabine, ahsoka, hera, jacen, etc. are, this is obviously a show specifically for cw and rebels fans and im all the way here for it. i mean theres very little substance here, it feels like mostly biding time until ezra and thrawn show up. like we're 4 episodes in and we've seen some relationship development for ahsoka and sabine, a bit of hinting at a backstory for baylan, and...a lot of good guy v bad guy race for the special map, which just isn't very enthralling cause we know someone's gonna get to thrawn and ezra, we all saw lars mikkelson in the trailer. what i really want to see developed is his response to him being seen as a sort of messiah that will bring the empire back. or why baylan is so certain thrawn will start another war, or still be loyal to the empire at all with their power, and therefore political value to the chiss, as well as palpatine, who was sort of keeping him in line, gone. i want something substantial out of these stories were invested in, not just fodder for "ooh who are we gonna see next?"
also how much you wanna bet that ahsoka uses the world between worlds to get to thrawn. like its lines and shit appear in the credits so it's probably important
but yeah that's about all im thinking about right now hopefully next episode is crazy, cause it sure is shaping up to be a doozy

So, let’s stop real quick and assume Marrok is actually Starkiller. Okay.
Then, why TF is he taking orders from Shin? He was FUCKING DARTH VADER’S apprentice! And, who TF is Shin even? She’s a padawan to Baylan. You’re telling me that FUCKING DARTH VADER’S apprentice is being ordered around by a padawan? ….Really?
And, never mind that. Something like this would be huge. Why would Marrok not be the big bad? I mean, marketing is pushing Baylan and Shin and Morgan and Thrawn, but really… Marrok is FUCKING DARTH VADER’S APPRENTICE! Why would any of these other people matter? Why are they even being considered? This is about Ahsoka, Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice trying to stop Galen Marek, Darth Vader’s apprentice. None of the other shit should or would matter. At all.
Compelling? Sure. What you’re going to get? Nope.
Edit: He’s so unimportant that he’s not even connected to anyone else’s entry in the Star Wars databank. He’s literally listed right before the T6 shuttle and the HK droids (which is what he might as well be; bait for the slaughter). Keep in mind also Star Wars marketing isn’t dick teasing you that he’s someone important; clickbait news website articles are. Temper your expectations.

Here is the link I used for the lullaby (edited for Mando'a), And another thanks to Steel for helping me with translations. Also, I cannot believe I didn't post anything yesterday. I have failed you... I have failed you.
Ahsoka went to the meetup point alone, she had not told Sabine about their soon-to-be guests, or the circumstances of her departure. The Imperial shuttle set down in the clearing, when she reached out, the Togruta sensed only two being inside the ship. The ramp lowered to reveal Baylan Skoll, his arm wrapped around his apprentice, who’d shrunk into her cloak with the hood tugged over her head. The skin she could see was paler than normal, their shoulders shaking as if they were cold, tucked closer to her Master’s side than Ahsoka would have thought possible.
Shin looked smaller without all of her armor, her robes wrinkled and messy, hanging off of their shrunken frame. A mask looped around their ears, covering their nose and mouth, though Ahsoka’s montrals picked up on each wheezing breath.
Baylan’s eyes scanned their surroundings as he led Shin off of the ship, a bag slung over his shoulders, the armor Shin normally wore tied to the outside of the bag, clinking softly with each step. “Thank you for taking us,” He greeted with a dip of his head. Both of their sabers hung from each belt, and he must have sensed Ahsoka’s distrustful gaze. “Shin, give me your saber,”
“Master..?” Their voice was hoarse, thick and stuffy as they leaned further into him for support, hand unwinding from the fabric of their cloak to retrieve the saber tucked against her hip. Trembling hands passed the weapon over, though it was not taken far, clipped to Baylan’s belt beside his own. “Trust goes both ways, Lady Tano..” He reminded at the scrunching of Ahsoka’s facial markings. “We are putting ours in you,”
Relenting, Ahsoka nodded her head, arm sweeping towards her speeder parked in the brush. “Your ship will be safe here, though I suggest making sure it’s locked. The wolves can open unlocked doors,” Ahsoka warned, listening as their ramp raised and ship sealed itself.
Baylan helped Shin into the speeder, allowing the young woman to tuck into his side once more as Ahsoka shot the speeder across the thirty minute trip back to the two small buildings that made up their home. A pre-fab building had been erected near Sabine and Ezra’s tower. A mop of orange and red hair was leaning over the railing, though Ahsoka could feel the Apprentice’s eyes on her as she pulled up.
By the time the speeder pulled to a stop, Sabine was leaning against stacked crates nearby, arms crossed over her chest with confusion pulling at her face. “I’ve picked up some guests for a few days,” Ahsoka greeted as she slid out of the speeder, head turning back to Shin and Baylan as he helped Shin out of the back of the speeder.
“Woah, what happened to her?” Sabine pushed off her spot, closing the distance between herself and Ahsoka as Baylan approached.
“Mynock fever, it seems they’ve picked it up on our travels,” Baylan informed the jedi as Shin finally raised her eyes from the dirt.
“Jeez, Shin,” Sabine offered a crooked smile in greeting. “Never got vaccinated for Mynock fever?”
Shin blinked slowly. “Vaccinated?” Their brows furrowed in confusion, and they glanced towards Baylan, who seemed as equally confused by the other Jedi at their response.
Realization crossed Baylan’s face, his hand raising to press his fingers into the bridge of his nose. “Of course they never had you vaccinated on Balosar,”
“Bal-“ She hadn’t known Shin had come from Balosar, Shin had never told, and Sabine had never asked, all she really knew of the planet was how few humans could survive long periods without a large sum of creds to keep supplying oxygen.
Ahsoka’s hand on her own stopped her from questioning further, it wasn’t their place to question yet. “It would be wise to get it handled in the city once they are well again,”
“I’m right here,” Shin rasped over the conversations around her, arms hanging to the side before falling with a smack to her sides. The blonde’s weight shifted unsteadily, though before Baylan could reach to steady her, Sabine was taking a large stride forward, allowing the blonde to grab onto her arm, sliding her other arm around them.
Offering a sheepish smile, Sabine let Shin lean into her. Truly, they didn’t care who was holding them up, or even if they fell… the Lothal dirt seemed pretty comfy, Sabine would know, they should ask…
“Hey, I’m gonna take her inside?” Sabine broke apart the quiet conversation between the Masters, nodding her head towards the tower. Baylan eyed her with something protective that both warmed her heart and put her on edge. She was no fool, she’d seen the holo of him killing the rebellion leaders to free Morgan, getting on his bad side (outside of his… bad side; the side that made them enemies) was not something she wanted to test out.
Shin didn’t seem to care about who was leading her away from the group, and Sabine was grateful to not have the usual homicidal comments sent her way in front of Baylan and Ahsoka. In fact, the Gray Jedi didn’t even seem to realize or care that she was moving, feet dragging through the dirt as Sabine led the way.
“Jeesh, Kurs’kaded, you’re in rough shape,” Sabine commented as she guided the woman into the tower, brushing their hood off their head as the door slid shut so she could press the back of her hand to their burning forehead. Their roots were a startling mess of brown, that she absolutely was not expecting to see from the blonde.
“How long have you been laid on your ass like this?” Sabine questioned as she settled them into her bed, pulling their cloak away only to replace it around her shoulders with the softest blanket she had.
“Weeks,” They sunk into the mattress and the familiar warmth and smells as Sabine fretted about to cover them up in blankets.
Sabine paused, brows furrowing as she turned to stare at the blonde. “We fought last week-“ She settled herself on the edge of the bed and a look of mock hurt crossed her face. “Wait, is that why I beat you?” A smile flickered across their lips from under the mask as Shin nodded.
“I mean, as much as I liked handing you your own ass, it’s less fun knowing it took you being sick for it to happen,”
“I could have beaten you, if I wanted,” Shin leaned back into the headboard, eyes fluttering shut as she burrowed into the blankets.
“Mhmm, get some rest, copikla,”
Defaulting to what she knew best, Shin obeyed the gentle command, drifting off into a feverish sleep.
Two sets of footsteps ascended the steps until the door was sliding open again. Ahsoka and Baylan both stepped into the tower to see Sabine working over a portable hot plate on the table, the beginnings of a pot of pog soup brought to a boil inside. “Shh,” The Mandalorian warned, gesturing to the sleeping ball of murder curled up in the corner of the room.
“Wait, is her hair brown?” Ahsoka’s eyes narrowed at the tops of Shin’s head, glancing towards the hair care and weapons expert.
“Yeah, she does the same thing I do,” Sabine pointed out quietly as she added spices to the pot. “Actually,” Her attention turned to Baylan. “They said you help her take care of it,” The civility was weird, for Sabine, though this was not her first experience being friendly with an enemy (considering the woman that had tried to murder her was snoring quietly in her bed), and she could at least play nice so long as it was returned.
“Yes, every few weeks,” He and Ahsoka lowered themselves into the open chairs in sync, the Togruta focused more on the conversation of human hair than anything else. “Although I hadn’t wanted to do the latest treatment until she was feeling better,”
Sabine nodded along, pleased with his answer as she settled into the open chair between the two older force-sensitives. “So, what’s all this about Balosar? That’s the core world they turned into a trash heap, right?”
Baylan scratched a hand through his beard in thought, debating on what he should provide about his Apprentice’s upcoming. “I can only offer some of the details, the rest you will need to ask her yourself.”
Sabine planted her elbows on the table and leaned in. “Spill,” A smile twitched at her lips, and she could see Ahsoka’s shoulders moving in silent laughter in her peripherals.
The older man only looked confused for a moment, though he did not bother to question their amusement. “As you know, a force sensitive child in the galaxy after the Jedi Purge was a danger, they would reach into their abilities and cause havoc, which oftentimes would lead to Imperial… intervention,” The Mercenary stroked his beard, lips pressing into a line as he pondered the piece they would have played in Shin’s life if he hadn’t shown up, how different she would be from the woman he raised and how similar she would instead have been with Marrok.
“I picked up on her fledgling presence and requested that Imperial presence in the area to clear until I could investigate. She’d been using the force to help her survive, which had only gone so far on a toxic planet unfit for humans, and an overpopulation rate that made the most basic of tasks nearly impossible. The healthcare on Balosar only extends to their corporate elite, the most she received was a used oxygen tank every handful of cycles.” His hands folded onto the table as he looked to his sleeping Padawan fondly.
“When I retrieved her, no one had inquired on my intentions, though I was stopped and… forced to buy out her employment with one of the Line Supervisors for the company that had hired her. Of course, when we were back on my ship, we had been more focused on the pressing ailments than that of routine vaccinations,”
“Wait, doesn’t Balosar export Death Sticks?” Sabine’s nose crinkled. “They hired a kid for their shit?” Anger rose in her blood, boiling like the soup in the center of the table.
“Sabine, mind your feelings,” Ahsoka called, her hand resting on Sabine’s arm, gesturing with her eyes to the shifting body in the nest of blankets, the spark of her anger causing unrest in their state.
“Right, yeah, calm,” Sabine huffed as she dropped back into her seat. “She didn’t deserve that,”
“She didn’t- doesn’t” Baylan corrected with a nod of his head, eyes warm as he glanced between the apprentices, through his shared bond with Shin, he’d been able to feel the spark of another bond that they had cherished just as dearly. Shin’s reaction to Sabine’s feelings even in her state of feverish sleep directed him to the other that his Padawan had felt dearly about (though he never would have guessed anyone else, it was nice to have the force confirm it).
“Shin has come a long way from Balosar, though many of her habits have stuck onto her, I am afraid that my own teachings in survival may have even reinforced some of their more unhealthy mechanisms, which is why I had sought you out, Lady Wren.”
“You have sparked something in my Apprentice that I had not known was possible for her to safely experience, it has been fortuitist in her training and connection with the force.”
Sabine relaxed at the words, a fond smile flickering at her lips as she fought off the feeling of smugness that settled into her chest.
“Shin has been helping Sabine as well,” Ahsoka pointed out, waving her hand towards the portable hotplate to turn down the heat with the force. “Both with her connection to the force, and her saber training,”
“Shin has been looking for a fight with a lightsaber user for some time, it’s a wonder they haven’t killed each other, but she spoke highly about Sabine’s aptitude, she believes you would be more comfortable in form three, or perhaps, adapting your culture into how you learn.”
“Wait, Shin talks to you about me?”
“All the time,” His chest rumbled with a soft chuckle as the Mandalorian’s cheeks turned red and she looked down, a smile tugging at her lips fondly.
Ahsoka’s facial marking raised, shooting a knowing smirk towards Baylan to convey that likewise, Sabine talked about Shin more often than she even realized.
“Okay, before I get embarrassed any more-“ Sabine started, rising to her feet to shuffle through the cabinets along the wall. Mentally, she patted herself on the back for cleaning up the clutter before their surprise guests had arrived.
Four bowls were set out, the serving spoon passed to Ahsoka to fill each bowl while she rummaged through the cabinets for the caf pods. “ ‘soka, the pods okay for tea?”
“Yes, thank you,” The Togruta answered as she poured each serving, moving to the counters to grab silverware for each bowl.
“Baylan? Tea, caf, water? Might have some flavor pods too,” Sabine called over her shoulder, just loud enough to not disturb Shin’s sleep yet.
“Water is alright, thank you,” The man’s head dipped in thanks, taking the bowl Ahsoka slid over to him in much of the same manner.
Drinks were passed around as the three settled in, Shin’s bowl set aside and covered to keep warm, giving her a few more moments of restful sleep as the three ate in peace and general quiet.
Sabine was the first to finish, offering a lopsided smile at the fond shake of Ahsoka’s head. “I’m gonna go wake her up,” She declared, uncovering the bowl and grabbing another glass to fill with water before making her way to the small bed in the corner.
Sabine settled the bowl and cup on the nightstand, laying her hand out on Shin’s leg to offer a small shake. “Kurs’kaded,” Her voice was quiet, the running water from the sink across the home as Baylan and Ahsoka did dishes, keeping her soft words between them.
Shin groaned in discontent, though her body leaned closer to the warmth offered by Sabine’s hand. “Come on, I made pog soup,” She bartered, lips pulling into a smile when the woman’s eyelids began to flutter open.
“What the krif is a pog?” Shin rasped as she freed her face from the blanket nest. The mask she’d been wearing had been pulled off from her shifting around in their sleep, allowing Sabine to study chapped lips and each labored breath they managed through their mouth.
“It’s a kind of soup, Mandalorian thing, but it’s good, and you need as much liquid as possible, or you’re gonna dry up. And then you’ll die,” She exaggerated with a smile that widened with her victory in the form of Shin’s eyes rolling.
Helping Shin sit up better and piling pillows at their back, the Mandalorian grabbed the bowl from the table. When Shin started trying to free their arms from her burrito, the other woman shook her head and raised a spoonful of soup to their lips. “It’s not the first time, you know,”
Shin looked like they were going to argue that point, but with both of their masters less than twenty feet away, commenting on their prior experiences having followed being fucked ‘stupid’, didn’t necessarily seem like the wisest option. Instead, they parted their lips and allowed Sabine to feed her.
It was slow work, making sure that she could handle the broth, and then the various vegetables and chunks of meat she’d added for Ahsoka’s sake.
Once the bowl was mostly empty, Shin adjusted herself to lean forward, forehead pressing against Sabine’s bicep as the woman wrapped an arm around her. “This happen a lot of the time?” She whispered gently, her head turning to press her lips to a burning forehead.
Shin nodded her head slowly, a quiet grumble meeting her question as she shifted enough to get one arm free of the blankets, reaching to fist into the fabric of Sabine’s shirt.
“Your Master’s acting like this is the first time he’s noticed,” Her voice dropped lower, barely even a whisper in Shin’s ear as she glanced at the man who was sitting and engaged in quiet conversation with Ahsoka once more.
“ ‘hid it,” They managed, voice muffled by Sabine’s arm. “took other jobs, away,” there was something in her voice that was thick with dissatisfaction and self-loathing, something Sabine was intimately familiar with.
“This is the first time you haven’t been able to go somewhere else,” Sabine realized out loud, though the blonde nodded her head as if asked a question. “We’ll get you what you need before you go, should look into everything else you missed out on too, you know?”
Shin didn’t answer, hand twisting further in Sabine’s shirt as her weight shifted to try and find comfort while still touching her moon.
“Alright, scooch over,” The woman kicked off her boots before sliding into the rest of the small space, though it was quickly cleared by Shin practically laying themselves on top of her the moment Sabine had settled.
By the time Sabine was comfortable, Shin’s breaths had already slowed to an easy slumber, her face relaxed enough that the hard lines around their eyes could soften. Encircling her arms around their waist, Sabine settled in, she mouthed her goodbyes to the two Masters as Ahsoka guided an only mildly hesitant Baylan out of the tower. Nix was let back into the room, finding himself a spot on Shin’s back where he curled up and purred loudly against her.
There was an overwhelming loneliness, choking like a vice grip around her throat, a heavy fog that sat heavy in her lungs, and the strike of fear that ignited the blood in her veins.
Baylan, where’s Baylan? Where am I? Where do I go from here? What should I do?
Sabine’s nose twitched in her sleep as her nightmares shifted with an overpowering sense. Ezra, Kanan, Ketsu, and Mandalore were replaced by faces she could not see, crowded city streets and the sour tang of acidic air and ash. Cartons of death sticks and spice were passed between hands, death hung around each street corner; Sabine became aware of the feeling of bodies at her feet, all faceless, but being trampled by the moving streets. Her legs looked small, and certainly not her own, or any that could belong to a human woman in her late twenties, they looked like those of a small child.
She could see the back of Baylan Skoll’s head, though, and she knew she needed to get to him as each breath grew harder to take in but he wouldn’t stop! “Master!” She was calling above the roar of the street, though her voice came out weak and broken, the poisonous atmosphere was taking its toll-
Sabine startled awake as the body pressed into her delved into a fit of gasping coughs, each breath a struggle as her lungs wheezed. “Shin,” Sabine called, consciousness finding her quickly as her adrenaline started pumping.
“Kurs’kaded,” She called again, reaching to press guide their hands up and uncurl them from her side, rolling the blonde onto her back so her lungs could properly expand as she sucked in each breath. When her eyes snapped open, they were full of tears that fell hot down her face, like a river of lava on Sullust.
There was a brief moment of hesitance in the gray apprentice, the force thrumming between them before they were pressing their face harder into Sabine’s shoulder, nails pressing past the material of her shirt and into the soft flesh underneath, grounding themself to the living, breathing person in her grasp.
Somehow, the grip Shin had on Sabine was strong enough to rival the fear in her veins when she’d woken up, though she didn’t dare offer any less pressure returned as she hugged the blonde closer. “I’m right here, ner Kurs’kaded,”
Sabine knew enough now about their connection that the emotions that were pressing in on her own heart were not her own. She also knew that she was entirely inexperienced in sending feelings not influenced by the ones being pushed on her, echoing back the panic and pain that was expelled out to her as all she could do was press Shin’s head close and hope that the heavy thumping of her heart would be enough to help.
The overwhelming fear starting to fade, Sabine finally no longer had an irrational fear of Baylan leaving her (despite her own issues regarding the prior abandonment of her own Master), and she could breathe again.
“Tuu Tattuine t’ad vod tranir drala or tra. Bal hokaad’la’vhekad buurenaar iviinir dos ori’suumpir, nyac tusken, demagolka, ra’beroya runar vurel alaror gebbar. Sa’munit sa ni olar taylor gar morut’yc bal novor ni.”
Sabine’s voice was soft, throat still thick with the force of the emotions projected onto her from the blonde that was using her as a lifeline. The lullaby was one Hera had sung to her once, when she’d been in a position much like Shin’s; feverish and scared. She only learned it after Jacen’s birth, and had recited it to the screaming infant only a handful of times, but the promises were etched into her heart either way.
“Let Naboo’s cerulean ceiling form a canopy o’er your head, as her bright, sparkling waters flow through lovely landscapes green, while sweet shaaks frolic ‘cross the plains. They won’t disturb your beds, so you may sleep peacefully in pleasant pastoral scenes.”
Nix, who had been brushed aside some time during the night, was rubbing his face into Shin’s arm, his weight settled half on the small mattress and half on Sabine’s hip. Hir purring broke the space between each breath, and eased some of the tension in the gray apprentice
Shin’s shoulders started to ease, her breathing quieting, and her fingers loosening from their crescent shaped indents placed deep in Sabine’s abdomen. When Shin’s fingers released from her stomach and started to brush through the soft fur along Nix’s spine, calm finally settled over both women. “Hey,” Sabine started, offering a lopsided when half-lidded, silvery blue pools met her own again.
“Hi,” They rasped, shifting under the blankets to lay more on the mattress than to weigh down the Mandalorian below her. “Are you okay?”
“Me? Di’kutt,” The woman smiled warmly as she shook her head. “Those were some feelings,” She decided, sure that telling Shin that being suffocated emotionally and in her sleep like that wasn’t pleasant, wouldn’t bring a smile to her kurs’kaded’be face like the thought on injuring her in a fight would.
Shifting to sit up and hissing at the dig of claws into her hip at her movement, Sabine sat up, leaning back against the small headboard and allowing Shin to wordlessly obey the silently invitation into her lap. Their head tucked into her shoulder once more as they settled to straddle her lap, legs sliding to hook under Sabine’s own as they relaxed into the woman again.
“Like you, I have to work on my shielding,” Shin grumbled into Sabine’s shoulder as the Mandalorian’s hand started to brush out her hair, running brown and blonde locks across her fingers with a soft hum.
“Not with me,” The flash of their eyes on her had Sabine rushing to continue. “You don’t have to shield yourself from me, what you’re feeling, I want to feel it,” A sleepy kiss was pressed into their cheek. “I want to feel you, all of you; whether it’s through your lightsaber in my stomach, or when you kick my ass sparring, when you come and I get to experience it through your side- absolutely divine experience, by the way,- and when your feelings get too much, I want to share that with you, I just… want you, in sickness and in health,”
Shin’s mouth gaped, opening and closing for a moment before she pitched forward, arms wrapping around her moon’s neck. They weren’t sure how to respond, not verbally at least. It seemed Sabine got what she wanted, however, because she pulled back enough to catch Shin’s gaze. “I’m not fucking you while you’re sick, cyar’ika.”
They grumbled in mild disappointment, though a smile twitched at her lips. Their head ducked back against her shoulder and Sabine settled them back down. When teeth dug into her shoulder, the Mandalorian only exaggerated a sigh and brought her hand back to Shin’s hair to card back through the messy strands.

When morning came, Shin’s fever had broken, and she’d even had enough energy to help Sabine cook breakfast. Which ended with a counter on fire, an angry Nix, and Baylan taking over for his disaster of a daughter.
It took Shin another three days to get into Capital City and receive the vaccinations she’d missed. During that time, Shin worked on getting back into fighting shape and getting her hair fixed, Sabine was only pretending to be hurt when the Wolf wouldn’t let her bleach it, though, Baylan did a good job for a man who’d never dyed his own hair.
Sabine’s fingers were intwined with Shin’s as they made their way downstairs. Shin and Baylan’s gear was already packed back into the speeder, Ahsoka leaned against the side of the vehicle, laughing with Baylan about an old memory they shared. Sabine could hear the name ‘Anakin’ on her lips, and while her curiosity piked, she kept quiet as they approached.
“Hey, Geezers, get a move on,” She called, making a show out of rolling her eyes as Ahsoka stood.
“Geezers, can you believe that?” Ahsoka remarked, a smile on her lips as she pushed off the side of the speeder. “Padawans these days,”
“Alright, Snips,” Baylan remarked with a hearty laugh, earning a look of mock anger from the relaxed Togruta.
“Hey, don’t forget, I will gut you,”
“Ah, don’t worry about it,” Sabine stepped back in when Shin’s energy pulsed with a wave of protectiveness. “ ‘soka’s all bark, no bite,”
“Well,” The woman’s hand reached for the thin strap of fabric of Sabine’s muscle shirt to reveal the bruised and bitten skin along her collarbone and throat. “My padawan seems to be taking all the bite with her, these days,”
“It’s like poetry, then,” Baylan joked, hands clasping together at his waist as Shin slipped away from Sabine to join at his side.
“Hey, poetry is good,” Sabine shrugged her shoulders. “It’s an art,”
Mand’alor the Ultimate was a poet, after all and Sabine was proficient at walking the way of the Mand’alor, ever since she took her creed.
