Gillian Anderson Helped Create Scully's Season 8 Theme
Tumblr media
“Anderson wanted to include "The Sky Is Broken", a song from Moby's 1999 album Play in the episode, as she felt that the song's lyrics "fit with [the] idea that was unfolding for the script".[17] Anderson crafted the first shot after the opening credits, which involved Scully getting ready while water dripped from a sink, to create a "continuation of sound, rhythmic sound", because it was important to the show's musical aspect.[18] Anderson and series composer Mark Snow worked together in post-production; after filming, she sent Snow several CDs of music and asked him for compositions that were similar in style and feel.[19] A certain melody that the two worked on later became "Scully's Theme", which was not broadcast until the eighth season episode "Within".[20]

Songs in the Key of X: Music from and Inspired by The X-Files is available on vinyl for the first time for $40 via Enjoy the Ride Records. The 1996 compilation is executive produced by The X-Files creator Chris Carter.
In addition Mark Snow's iconic The X-Files theme, it features songs from Rob Zombie & Alice Cooper, Foo Fighters, Danzig, Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, R.E.M., Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, and more.
The 2xLP album is pressed on three color variants, each limited to 1,000: "Little Green Men" clear with neon green & black splatter; "Cigarette Smoke" clear with white smoke; and "Oil" black. It's housed in a gatefold jacket.

Movie #10 of 2024: The X Files
I've been watching the series on Hulu and they remastered it for widescreen t.v.'s and some of the framing is hilarious when they block the actors super close together in the center of the screen.
The first three seasons are fantastic. My favorite episode is probably "Squeeze" which includes snap crackling pop dialog from Mulder like, "Is there anyway I can get it off my fingers quickly without betraying my cool exterior?" [shakes hand wildy]
My other favorite aspect of the early seasons includes on location shooting in Vancouver so nearly every episode they're in a forest. This dynamic led to magnificent storytelling decisions facilitated by editing such as Mulder knocking on Scully's door and handing her a ticket because they've got to get on a plane to leave D.C. and fly to Washington state. Smash cut to Mulder and Scully in a 1994 Ford Taurus driving INTO DANGER (a forest). Because something bad and scary happened there (forest bad)!
Oh yeah, they also made this dumb movie at some point in between seasons. Duchovny and Anderson exude tiredness as they over and under emote their way through this oddly paced nothingburger of a movie that serves as a way to kill the one cool old english guy and doesn't make a whole lotta sense continuity wise. And then they've gotta get right back to work on the next season. It's fine.

When we’re forced to accept what seems unacceptable...
[Sarah Chauncey]
Not only at rock bottom but this loss... I never expected so... suddenly. But as with everything else that life has thrown my way, it changes in an instant.
I’m here but I’m not. I feel stuck between two worlds. If I come around, it’s distraction. If not, the anguish is ready to swallow me up.
I do have angels all around me, at my side. Even though it seems so lonely where I’m at.

I felt the love, the strength of your light. Hand to heart, you have no idea how grateful, humbled I am to receive it, to be seen and I thank you with my whole soul.
I love you. Thank you.
I will be in and out, if anything.
