Istanbul Ch D R1: Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan/John-Patrick Smith [1] def. Marius Copil/Victor Vlad Cornea 7-6(13), 7-6(8) Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 ATP Challenger Livestream (via website)
After all, it might have boiled down to how they handled the pressure points, either on serve or on return. Jeevan/JP had more chances to break (6) thanks to their point construction, but both pairs ended up could only break once in the second set thanks to their winners. However, the service games determined it all, to some extent, in the tie-breaker.
Service game-wise, Copil/V.V. Cornea scored 6 more aces than JP/Jeevan. Interestingly, while both pairs had 80% first serves winning percentage, Copil/V.V. Cornea took more risks with 6 double faults (including the match-ending double fault) even if they won 9% more points from the second serves. As vulnerable as JP/Jeevan’s second serves looked, they were often manageable through the rallies, which also helped them through the pressure points.
In the second round, JP/Jeevan will face Altug Celikbilek/Cem Ilkel, who simultaneously defeated Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha/Divij Sharan 6-7(1), 7-5, [10-7] in a similarly classic encounter. This could be a fun clash, where every element counts, including how they handled the pace to their rallies. Should be interesting to see how everything turned out!

Of Trials- Part 3/3 (Ask)
Platonic Yandere Vampire
Previous Part
Story Chapter list
┉┈◈◉◈┈┉
Tumblr media
The courtroom smelled of polished wood and old paper and ink. It was a grand place, decorated intricately with carvings in the wood. Each wall told the story of great pioneers, from the Original Sire to, the great Vlad, without forgetting the lady Carmilla,
The judges all looked different from the second – the first seat was surprisingly empty – to the last, the ninth. Some of them, he recognized, like Madame Rossignol, and he wondered why such a woman was ever voted to be part of the council for the next 18 years. There were three men and five women. He took note of two elderly-looking people, a man and a woman, with graying hair. It wasn't every day that he saw vampires turned at such an old age.
For his part, Dorian sat poised on the defendant's seat, looking up at the members. It wouldn't do to appear unruly on such a night, so he had taken great care to look presentable.
"Dorian de Beauvoir," called the first judge to stand up, the man who looked old with a gray beard. Despite his late stage of life, his burgundy eyes remained vibrant, contrasting with his dark skin. "You have been accused of the siring of an immortal child, a crime that, as you must already know, is punishable by death." There were whispers, but he held his head high. "We ask you now; how do you plead?"
"Not guilty," he answered, portraying no hesitation. There were even more whispers, and he himself was astounded by his own ability to remain calm.
"Very well," nodded the man, "I, Marius Thorn, member of the vampiric council, therefore announce the beginning of this session." He regained his seat.
On the fourth seat to his left, Madame Rossignol rose. She cleared her throat, then frowned at him. There was at least one person on his side, it seemed. He did not particularly like the woman, but the support wasn't unwelcome.
The atmosphere grew tense as the other judges exchanged glances. Dorian’s mind raced, but he kept his exterior composed. He knew that any sign of weakness could be detrimental. The charges were severe, and he needed to maintain his dignity.
Madame Rossignol's voice rang clear and authoritative. "We must remember that each accused is entitled to a fair trial. Dorian de Beauvoir stands before us, claiming innocence. We owe it to our laws and traditions to hear him out fully."
“Duke, when did you first come in contact with the young (Y/n)?” the interrogator asked, her voice slicing through the tense silence of the courtroom.
“Autumn of 1856," Dorian responded, his tone measured. "I am unsure of the specific date."
"And her parents?" she pressed, her gaze unwavering.
"Dead," he replied, his voice devoid of remorse. He believed firmly that it had to be done; they were links to her life that needed severing.
The interrogator raised an eyebrow, clearly sensing there was more to the story. "Before or after your encounter with her?" she asked, her tone sharper.
"After." His responses were succinct, unsure how his admissions would be received.
She narrowed her eyes and pursed her lips. "Were you responsible for it?”
He hesitated for a moment before acquiescing, "I was," he finally admitted.
Most in the courtroom remained stoic, but a few whispered amongst themselves in disapproval, viewing his actions as a significant risk to their status of secrecy. Their concern was not for the mortals, but for the potential exposure his actions could bring to their kind.
He glanced up at the spectators' seats, something he had avoided since the trial began. His gaze first fell upon Elizabetta, the vile woman seated in a prime spot with a perfect view of the proceedings. When their eyes met, she waved at him mockingly. His eyes narrowed, and he quickly looked away.
Finding Killian was not difficult; he sat at the very front, his brows furrowed and lips pursed. Dorian scanned the area around him, searching for his daughter. His eyes landed on his partner again, silently conveying a clear message: 'Where is my daughter?' Killian didn't respond, averting his gaze, causing Dorian to grip his seat in frustration.
"Duke, I believe you were asked a question," Madame Rossignol's voice cut through his thoughts, bringing his attention back to her. He quickly apologized. "When did the decision to turn the young girl first come to mind?"
"A few weeks after our first meeting,” he replied after clearing his throat, though his eyes continued to wander, searching for his child.
"How old was she at that time?"
"Eleven years old," he answered. Noting their outrage, he added, "I did not plan to turn her until her twelfth birthday."
"And when did you turn her?"
"A week after her birthday," he stated plainly.
Madame Rossignol leaned forward, her eyes boring into his. "And that, even while knowing the risks of turning a child," she said, her tone heavy with accusation.
"She was twelve," he reasoned with a scoff, defiance in his voice.
Another woman stepped forward to stand beside Madame Rossignol. "Be that as it may, the law against immortal children takes many factors into account: their age at the time of turning as well as their own self-control." She glanced around at the onlookers. "I am sure you all remember the case of Maxim Penryhouse."
Everyone did, of course. The boy and his sire had created such chaos within their society, leading to years of suppressing rumors and whispers about vampires in the country. Maxim had been deemed an immortal child despite being turned at fifteen. Both he and his sire had their daylight rings removed and were left to burn under the sun's unforgiving glare.
"She can control herself," Dorian hissed through gritted teeth, desperation creeping into his voice.
The second woman looked expectantly at Madame Rossignol. She bit her lip, her brows furrowing into a soft frown. “It is neither true nor false," she declared, her power to recognize lies revealing the uncertainty of his statement. This ability was precisely why she held her seat on the council.
Dorian drew in a deep breath, his hands clenching and unclenching. "By the gods," he whispered to himself, feeling the weight of his uncertainty. Even he was unsure of his own answer now, and he suddenly felt awfully foolish.
The courtroom seemed to close in around him as he grappled with his own doubts. His gaze flickered back to the spectators, finding Killian once more. His partner’s face was stony, unreadable, offering no comfort or reassurance. The silence was oppressive, broken only by the faint murmurs of the audience.
Madame Rossignol's voice cut through the tension. "Dorian, the council needs assurance that the child you turned can indeed control herself. Her actions, should they go unchecked, could expose us all."
He nodded, swallowing hard. "I understand. She is different, though. She has a strength of will that is rare. I have faith in her."
The younger judge with piercing green eyes spoke again, skepticism clear in his tone. "Faith is not enough. We need evidence. We need proof that she will not be a threat to our secrecy. Bring the girl in."
Then, the door swung open to reveal (Y/n). His child hesitated to step forward, but beside her stood a man whose very presence commanded respect, a testament to the centuries he had witnessed. His skin was a golden tan, and his ebony black hair fell in waves.
His gaze was sharp, dark eyes seemingly aware of everything happening around him. This was a man who could not be caught off guard, having seen it all. Their eyes locked, and Dorian sucked in a sharp breath. Mikhail smiled at him, his sharp white fangs gleaming in the candlelight.
Dorian stood, driven by a sudden urge to pry (Y/n) away from Mikhail, to scream at him, attack him, or worse—but he was promptly ordered to settle down again. With great difficulty, he complied, feeling utterly powerless. If his sire dared to harm her, though, Dorian would not hesitate to pounce.
Mikhail rested a hand on (Y/n)'s shoulder and crouched down to whisper something in her ear. (Y/n) nodded with a small frown. Mikhail straightened, looked at the council members, and nodded in turn.
"Very well," Madame Rossignol said, "let the human in."
This time, a door opposite the one (Y/n) had entered through opened. A young maiden, who could not have been older than twenty, was forced in, shoved by two vampires. She struggled and pleaded for her life as she was thrown at (Y/n)'s feet.
"What is this?" Dorian demanded, his voice tight with fear and anger.
"A test. To assess her self-control."
He knew what this entailed: one sip of the human’s blood, and (Y/n) would sign both their death sentences.
(Y/n) did not react to the human trashing and weeping, demonstrating her remarkable ability to control herself. She wasn't a rabid animal ready to pounce on anyone, obviously. Her restraint, however, was only the beginning of the ordeal.
When the mere sight of the mortal failed to incite her, the woman was slashed, a shallow cut on her neck causing blood to pool on the floor. "Please!" she cried out, desperately clutching her neck in a futile attempt to stop the blood flow. "I don't want to die! Have mercy!" Yet he was certain his child was not listening; the sweet scent of the blood was probably more enticing to her at this moment. She wasn't one to care about the pleas of her victims.
"(Y/n)..." he whispered, his voice barely audible, as he saw her eyes turn red and her canines grow. He witnessed the fierce battle within her as she fought to restrain herself, to resist giving in to her primal instincts.
She approached the woman slowly, and he blanched, hoping—no, praying—that she would turn away, that she wouldn't seal her own fate and—
She put both hands over her mouth, clenched her eyes shut, and turned her head away. He leaned back in his seat, exhaling a breath of relief, as he heard the onlookers whisper amongst themselves.
(Y/n) was led out of the courtroom by the same man who had escorted her in. Once again, he whispered something in her ear and flashed Dorian a grin. The tension in the room was palpable, but for now, she had resisted.
The next hour was a blur to him as he awaited their decision. Fairness was not a word in vampires’ vocabulary and this test, Dorian knew, was more for theatrics than anything. It was for them a small, yet entertaining performance that wasn’t likely to change their mind had they already deemed him guilty in their cold, unbeating hearts.
Mikhael sat on the only empty seat reserved for the council. He supposed he should have expected him to have this seat, Dorian thought bitterly. Why him of all people?
He had to wait hours before the sentencing finally came. As the last member of the council advanced to announce their decision, Dorian stood rigidly unable to think of anything other than the next words that would come out of his mouth.
The burly man shuffled papers in his calloused hands and cleared his throat before speaking in a gruff voice. He rambled on about the evidence, summarizing the entire session as if they hadn't all been present. But finally, the words Dorian had been anxiously awaiting were directed at him: "Dorian de Beauvoir, this court has found you not guilty of the siring of an immortal child."
Relief washed over him like a tidal wave, and he nearly collapsed, pulling his face into his hands and sighing deeply. Dorian had never imagined he would feel this light again.
"This is preposterous!" cried out someone in front of the spectators box. It was Elizabetta who had risen to protest, "She is clearly–"
"This council has made its decision," warned the first council member, "Are you questioning it?"
"That child, as well as her sire should be -".
"Elizabetta," snapped Mikhael, and Dorian couldn't help but flinch at the authority in his voice. "Your opinion on the matter is neither here nor there."
He watched as Elizabetta quietly sat down, shooting Dorian a bitter look. He instinctively wanted to listen, or just make himself as small as possible because, while these words weren’t directed at him, he felt as much like a scolded child as she did.
⊱ ────── {⋆☾⋆} ────── ⊰
As he left the room, he soon came across Killian. He smiled and held him in a tight embrace, resting his face on the crook of his neck. Killian smelled of spices and wood. Stepping back, Dorian asked, "Where is she?"
"Outside, that's what they told me," Killian answered, and they walked together towards the entrance.
Opening the door, Dorian's eyes scanned the entry hall until he spotted her. (Y/n) was engaged in conversation with his sire. Dorian quickened his pace until he reached them.
She turned around at the sound of his footsteps, giving him a bright smile. But on the corner of her mouth, he noticed blood, and her eyes were red.
"You're here!" she cried out happily, though she didn't move away from his sire, who was also smiling.
"We are," replied Killian, stepping forward with a handkerchief to wipe the red liquid off her mouth. "When did you feed?"
"Just recently," she chirped. "Mr. Mikhael told me I could have the screaming lady after the trial."
His sire pinched (Y/n)'s cheeks affectionately and remarked, "What a sweetheart she is." Then he looked up at Dorian. "You chose her very well, Dorian."
"Get away from her," Dorian ground out hatefully. Killian shot him a surprised look.
The older vampire raised both hands mockingly. "I do not wish her any harm, Dorian."
Killian leaned in to whisper in Dorian's ear, " (Y/n) and I will be waiting outside."
He left promptly without waiting for a response, clearly uninterested in being part of any quarrel between Dorian and his sire. Was Killian even aware that this was the blond’s sire? Now that he thought of it, he had never mentioned him to the other as he had always wished to squash any memory of the older vampire.
Dorian watched them depart but reluctantly remained behind.
"A lovely little family you have," commented his sire casually.
"You do not get to do that,” seethed the blond.
He lifted an eyebrow. "Pray tell, what do I ‘not get' to do?"
"You may not just waltz in. This is my family, you may not come into contact with them."
Mikhael stared at him, and Dorian found himself unable to hold his gaze. "I... apologize for Elizabetta's actions," Mikhael said after a moment. "I can assure you that she prepared this entire thing without my consent."
He hummed thoughtfully, processing Mikhael's words. "So she is indeed yours."
"Younger than you. She is good and took to our way of existence very quickly. Though not as quickly as you," Mikhael acknowledged.
Dorian's eyes narrowed as bitterness settled within him. "Of course. This must be why you left me to fend for myself the same night you turned me."
"You turned out so well," justified the older one, “mature and independant– more than your sister would ever be." Dorian scoffed, "I am serious. It had not been an easy decision, but I did it nonetheless, despite my instincts telling me to come back. You were the first vampire I sired and to now see you with your own little fledgling is heartwarming.”
"You would do well to remember this sight as it is one you will never gaze upon again," Dorian stepped forward, pointing a finger accusingly. "I know what you are trying to do. You’re attempting to get close to our girl so you can approach all of us and play happy little coven as if nothing happened. I will not allow that."
"Dorian..." Mikhael whispered, his eyes narrowing in response.
"NO! YOU LOST ANY CHANCES OF THAT THE NIGHT YOU LEFT ME—THE NIGHT YOU MADE ME FEAST ON MY OWN PARENTS' BODIES BEFORE VANISHING INTO THE NIGHT!" Dorian's voice echoed through the hall, drawing the attention of everyone present—judging him, questioning him, and perhaps even scoffing at him. But he paid them no mind.
It took him some time to collect his thoughts and calm himself once again and, when he did, his gaze hardened. "I will now step away. We will say our goodbyes and go our separate ways," Dorian declared firmly, leaving no room for argument. "Am I clear?"
He looked as though he might argue, but then he smiled and chuckled, disregarding the curious onlookers just as Dorian did. "I see myself in you. Even now, I do not regret turning you," he sighed. "Good evening to you, Dorian."
His hands trembled, and words failed to come out as he sent a final gaze and curt nod toward his sire. Turning on his heels, he left swiftly.
Arriving at their carriage where Killian and (Y/n) were already waiting, he collapsed into Killian's arms, using him as his lifeline. Dorian didn't care about (Y/n) seeing his tears at that moment; he just needed comfort.
"What is...” Killian began, concerned.
"We must go, Killian," Dorian interrupted, his voice cracking. “Let the three of us leave Britain behind."

Ikevamp - napoleon's sequel - chap 1 ~ 10
What happened so far
Chapter 1 - 5
We had a lot of lovely-dovey moments with Napoleon in this first part of his sequel.
We had the chance to see a bit of jealous Napoleon when Arthur and the others were teasing them at the mansion and when Vlad gave a bouquet of flowers to MC. Napoleon bought another one just for her ahaha
If you unlocked the key to his heart in chapter 2 you'll get his POV about the flower episode and how he loves to do mundane errands with MC.
Tumblr media
He is really romantic and peaceful in the first chapters. He seems happy with the life he has now.
In chapter 3 he gave a ring to MC as a symbol of his vow to always be with her. Napoleon also invited her to visit Corsica, his hometown.
No idea when he was planning to take MC there, but in chapter 4 we can feel that he will have to postpone that trip.
MC and Napoleon notice Gav (yes, our little and lovely Gav is in napoleon's route once again <3) helping some people in town. The young boy let them know he wants to help the local community from now on. So he created the citizen's watch.
Not long after that, Gav introduces Marius and some other boys in their twenties to Napoleon. He says these boys also want to join their watch to help locals.
Napoleon hesitates to teach these new guys fencing, but he eventually gives in. He even invites Jean to help him.
Tumblr media
Chapters 6 - 10
Napoleon realizes his students are taking too much of his time. He wants to spoil MC and also spend some quality time with her.
They go to an exhibition and everything is going well when a mysterious man approaches Napoleon. MC was not close at that moment. She was buying some gifts for the mansion residents.
Basically, the random guy said that Napoleon's existence was a mistake. And that he and the other shouldn't be alive. He also points out that Napoleon will ruin the world. He doesn't say a word to MC about that encounter.
A few days later, Comte's friend hires Napoleon as a security at his party.
And yes, Comte was excited to think about the possibility of buying dresses for MC, as she is also attending the ball as Comte's guest.
Tumblr media
At the party, a dude called Thénardier wanted to talk to Napoleon. He wanted to hire him as a bodyguard. This guy even said he could hire the citizen's watch as his army and Napoleon could be their commander. Napoleon refused.
After Napoleon refused the offer, the Duke, who was holding the party, allowed Napoleon to take a break to dance with MC!!
Let me just vent here that when we had to make a choice, the correct answer was not to kiss him T_T
Tumblr media
Several days passed, and Marius and his group got into a fight with some nobles. Napoleon and MC luckily were in town and Gav called them to help. When they got there Marius and some other boys were injured. The nobles attacked them claiming that the citizen's watch was a nuisance and working class should shut up and do their job. Otherwise, they could fire those civilizans who worked in their family's factory.
The situation escalated quickly after that and Paris is no longer the same. Marius and the others want to send a message to those rich boys who attacked them. They even asked for Napoleon's cooperation, but Napoleon rejected their offer. He also said he didn't teach them how to fight to assault people.
That same night, Comte gathered everyone to warn them to not get involved in the recent events and to be careful.
Then, Sebastian points out that there is something wrong.
Tumblr media
Vlad, Faust and Charles are also in that meeting and Vlad says that maybe someone is changing things slowly and that may have affected the present.
After that, we see Napoleon in the garret pondering his next moves. He feels guilty that because of him those boys are using what they learned to assault others. MC noticed that he was acting weird lately, so she went there to reassure him she was always going to be by his side.
Another thing that is bothering Napoleon is that random dude who said his existence in this world was a problem. He still doesn't know who he is and how he can find him.
Oh, and at this point, everyone in the mansion says that Napoleon is a human again after all those events in act 1. Don't ask me why he is not a demi-vampire. It doesn't make sense to me, but Napoleon has no bloodlust so far.

A petty pet peeve about the Interview with the vampire TV series... the justification of dead naming out of spite.
It doesn't happen to any trans person but I'm still not comfortable with the casual taunting via dead naming in the Interview with the vampire TV series. Daniel does it to Armand with the name he was likely given as a slave, against his will, Arun. In the novel The Vampire Armand his birth name was Andrei but Armand has emotional distress tied to this name because of the unhappy memory of being enslaved. In the TV show Interview with the vampire Santiago is a chosen name of a vampire, who as a mortal, was named Francis. Obviously there's pain attached to the name Francis, or the trauma of being turned into a vampire, besides the reasons Louis gives when taunting the character. When you deliberately hurt someone with a previous name they do not feel a fond connection to, this is deliberate dead naming. And it's not okay, no matter who you are doing it to. It's true the show never did this to a trans character but in the novels, even with their enemies, the vampires always respected chosen / true names. Many Anne Rice vampires are not using their names from their mortal births. Pandora, Armand, Marius de Romanus (de Romanus just means "from Rome." That's not his birth surname), Quin (Birth name: Tarquin), Magnus (Latin for Magnificent or Greatest. There's no way that was his birth name). They used these names for centuries. These are the names they most heavily associate with themselves. These ARE their true names. Taunting based on dead names is petty, cruel, and immature. (And don't get me started on the show's version of Louis going on about Santiago's penis size. Stay classy, Louis.) In the 1985 Fright Night movie, sequel, comic books, and new novel series the character Peter Vincent is a has-been horror actor who took on the name of his most popular character, the vampire hunter Peter Vincent (Named for actors Peter Cushing and Vincent Price). You never learn his birth name in the movies because it doesn't matter. By the end of the first movie Peter Vincent has grown as a person, he has over-come his fears and become the hero he always pretended to be. "I am Peter Vincent, the great vampire killer!" It becomes his true name. This was understood in 1985. Even when the vampire was taunting him, he never stooped so low as to use Peter Vincent's birth name.
Even when we go old school with vampire literature Carmilla had three or four aliases all with the same letters scrambled. Marcilla, Mircalla, Carmilla... (And Carla in the movie The House that dripped blood). The historic Vlad the Impaler (not an actual vampire... as far as we know...) was cousins with house Bassarab. He blamed his cousins, and uncles, for the assassination of his father and older brother. Vlad's surname is not Țepeș. That's a title his enemies gave him posthumously. It's just "Impaler." That's all it means. Vlad (Vladislaus) the III of Wallachia chose a patronymic surname for himself. Dracula (Various spellings such as Drakulya) which meant "Son of The Dragon." His father went by Dracul (dragon) for his membership to The Order of the Dragon. His chosen name WAS his official name. A lot of people mistakenly think Țepeș is the surname and Dracula is the nickname. No. It's the other way around. And none called him Țepeș "Impaler" to his face. Dracula was his name and he was proud of that name. The reason Interview with the vampire the TV series bothers me with the repeated taunting via dead naming is two reasons. 1. No Anne Rice character in the books would stoop so low. Do they forget Anne isn't Anne Rice's birth name? Her birth name was Howard O'brien. Anne Rice understood, from her own experience, that a chosen name can be your true name. She chose the name Anne when she was five-years-old. And she took the name Rice when she married her husband, Stan Rice, the poet. 2. The lowbrow attack of dead naming suggests that it's okay to hurt someone by deliberately dead naming so long as the person "had it coming." / "deserved it." I know vampires don't teach morality but the show even had Daniel do it as a mortal and no one called anyone out for it as being wrong or untrue. The simple fact that they never do this in the books and with good reason (see the author's chosen name, from age five, so not just for writing purposes) makes it more jarring and crass when it's done in the show.

❝ what are we doing here ? ❞
-------------------------------------
Vlad would have thought it was obvious but clearly not. He diverted his gaze from the city below them, turning to his companion who, to his everlasting surprise, was older than him. It was still a somewhat novel situation for him.
"It is a beautiful city with such a blending of cultures and one you should not have dismissed so quickly. There are even people here who still call themselves Romans."
Based on the movements of the Ottomans and their designs on the city, Constantinople was destined to fall at some point but Vlad did not imagine that would be any time soon. It would be better for Marius to be able to enjoy the city properly and thoroughly before it fell. It was the nature of the world, of cities and empires even fashions. All would fall in the end.

December 13: Winter
“Rosie, will you help me build a snowman?” Jacqueline asked, hurrying over to her older sister.
“Yes, of course.” Rose said, smiling at her younger sister.
“Louis, let's build a snow fort, eh?” Judas said, grinning mischievously at his younger brother.
“To attack Rose from?” Louis asked, knowing his older brother all too well.
“But of course.”
Louis thought for a moment, then shrugged. “Okay.”
“Excellent!”
While the boys began to gather snow to build the foundation of their fort, the girls worked to build the base of their snowman. Rose made the snowballs that would in turn be the body and head, then helped Jacqueline stack them.
“It’s so nice to see the children having fun.” Colette remarked, coming to sit on the bench next to her husband.
“Indeed.” Marius said, nodding his head in agreement. “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Rose willingly participate in winter activities such as these.”
Colette smiled. “She’s been much happier since she married Vlad.”
“You flatter me, Lady Colette.” Vlad said, appearing behind the couple.
Rose’s parents turned around in surprise, as they had not heard him approach, and Vlad smiled politely.
“There we are, Jackie.” Rose said, placing the last of the rocks in the snow to finish off the snowman’s face.
“Yay!” Jacqueline cheered, then hugged her sister. “Thank you, Rosie!”
Rose smiled and placed a hand on her sister’s back. “Of course.”
“Let’s build a snow-woman next!” Jacqueline said, and knelt down to begin making the base of the next one.
“Alright.”
As Rose knelt down next to her sister, Judas threw a well-aimed snowball, and laughed loudly when it hit her square in the back. “Bullseye!”
“JUDAS!”
“That was très magnifique, no?” Judas said, looking down at Louis, who was hiding behind the wall of the fort.
“Sure, but was it worth it?”
A snowball hit Judas square in the chest as he opened his mouth to answer his brother, and he grinned almost devilishly. “Most definitely.”
Louis looked mildly concerned by his brother’s devil-may-care attitude, but handed him another snowball anyway.
“Fore!” Judas called, and launched the snowball at his sister with a strong swing of his arm.
“Judas, you shit!” Rose yelled, while Jacqueline laughed. “I just bought this coat!”
“Let’s hit them back, Rosie!” Jacqueline suggested, scooping up some snow.
“Yes, let’s.” Rose said, now grinning almost evilly.
“Uh-oh…” Louis murmured, then ducked back behind the wall. “You’ve really done it now, Jude.”
“Oh, mon petit frère, this is only the beginning.” Judas said, packing snow into a ball.
“Why do you do this?” Louis sighed, also making his own snowball.
“Do what?”
“Piss off our sister.”
Judas grinned. “Because it’s fun.”
“Fun for you, maybe.”
“Oh, come now, dear Louis. Don’t tell me you’re not having fun.”
“Not yet, I’m not.”
“Here.” Judas said, handing Louis the already-formed snowball. “Hit Jackie instead.”
“No way.”
“Fine.” Judas shrugged, and took the snowball back. “But don’t come crying to me when she pummels you.”
“She’s not going to pummel me.” Louis said, and Judas snorted. “She’s not!”
“Whatever helps you sleep at night, little brother.”
Louis opened his mouth to retort, but found it full of snow instead. Across the way, Jacqueline was cheering, and Rose was laughing.
“Told you.” Judas said, and threw one back at his sisters. It hit Rose in the face, and she angrily wiped it away with a gloved hand. “Louis.”
“What?”
“Duck now.”
“What?”
A larger snowball than the others sailed through the air, and knocked Louis to the ground, while Judas merely sighed.
Rose, who had not thrown the snowball, turned to look behind her, and almost laughed when she saw her husband beginning to make another unusually large snowball. “Darling, what are you doing?”
“Making a snowball.”
“So it would seem.” Rose said, smiling in amusement. “But why the large size?”
“Well, I’m not going to be able to do any damage with those absurdly small ones.”
Rose opened her mouth to say that it wasn’t about causing damage, but Jacqueline spoke up before she could say anything.
“Hit Judas next!” Jacqueline said, and Vlad grinned.
“My dear child, it would be my pleasure.”
Judas, who had now noticed that his brother-in-law had joined the girls, immediately knelt down behind the fort. “We are in trouble.”
“Oh, you think?” Louis said sarcastically, wiping off his front.
“I don’t think. I know.”
“Well, you’re the one that got us into this mess, so how do you suggest we get out of it?”
Judas thought for a moment, then shrugged. “Run?”
“Really? That’s your solution?”
“Do you have a better one?”
“No, I was hoping you did!”
Judas snorted. “You think too highly of me, dear brother.”
“Clearly!”
Vlad’s snowball sailed through the air at that moment, and knocked down half the fort’s wall, which resulted in the two brothers getting covered in snow.
“We won, we won!” Jacqueline cheered, and Rose laughed.
“Who says it’s over?” Vlad said, now making a more normal-sized snowball.
“Are you going to wreck the rest of the fort?” Rose asked, grinning in amusement.
“I am indeed.”
“In that case, let me help.”
“I’ll make the ammunition!” Jacqueline declared, and pulled a pile of snow in to make multiple snowballs out of.
“I think you’re a bad influence on her.” Rose remarked, watching as Vlad threw another snowball at the fort.
“I hardly see how learning new vocabulary is a bad thing.”
Rose gave him a look. “ ‘Ammution’, darling?”
Vlad shrugged as his snowball hit Judas in the face. “It’ll be useful someday.”
Rose laughed dryly. “God, I hope not. My mother will lose her mind otherwise.”
“Okay, on the count of three, we’ll charge.” Judas said, and Louis looked at him as if he were crazy.
“You said ‘run’!”
“Yes, but I didn’t say which direction.”
“Judas!”
“Move it or lose it, little brother!” Judas said, leaping to his feet and taking off in the direction of his sisters.
“Shit!” Rose swore, and grabbed a snowball from Jacqueline. The snow did nothing to deter her brother, even when she threw several of the snowballs in succession, and soon he wasn’t more than a mere few feet away. “Judas, no!”
“Judas, yes.” Judas grinned, and tackled his sister to the ground, while Louis threw a snowball at Jacqueline, who laughed and threw one back.
“Get off me!” Rose exclaimed, but Judas merely shoved snow down the back of her coat. “JUDAS, YOU SHIT! THAT’S FUCKING COLD!”
Judas laughed loudly at his sister’s outrage, but quickly got to his feet when she moved to grab the back of his coat. “If you want revenge, you’ll have to catch me first!”
“OH, I’LL CATCH YOU!” Rose shouted, and scrambled to her feet almost as quickly as he did, but paused to dust off her outfit before starting after him.
“Wow, Rose sure can run.” Louis remarked, blinking at the sight of his older sister chasing their brother.
“Indeed.” Vlad said, and knelt down to straighten out Jacqueline’s hat, since it had become somewhat askew during the snowball fight.
Louis pursed his lips, then held his hand out to his sister. “I’m going inside for some hot chocolate, Jackie. Do you want to come with me?”
Jacqueline thought for a moment, then shook her head. “I want to watch Rosie chase Judas!”
Louis snorted, then withdrew his hand. “Suit yourself.” He turned to walk back towards the house, but stopped before he took a step forward. On second thought… “You know what? I think I will stay.”
Vlad smiled at the two children, who were now watching their elder siblings with interest. “Perhaps I shall make you two the hot chocolate, then, and bring it back out.”
“Yes, please!” Jacqueline said, taking a seat in the snow.
“If you don’t mind.” Louis said, also taking a seat on the ground.
“Not at all.” Vlad said, and then departed with a quick bow. As he walked back to the house, he observed the family with a somewhat affectionate and appreciative eye. Colette and Marius were seated on a nearby bench, their heads resting against each other, and their watchful eyes on their children. Rose and Judas were still running around, but he guessed one of them would soon catch the other. His money was on Rose, though he knew that he was incredibly biased due to the fact that she was his wife. “May the best sibling win.” Vlad mused in amusement, then shifted his gaze to the two younger siblings. They were sitting quietly together by Jacqueline’s snowman, and watching their older siblings run around as if they were the younger ones.
Vlad had not had a winter like this in a long time, and he could say with some certainty that he would likely not have one like it again, because nothing ever remained the same — not even clear constants like family and its dynamics. Still, it was nice to be able to witness such a serene moment in time — even if said serene moment contained a bit of chaos.
It was then that Judas caught Rose, and they fell into the snow with some bickering and a bit of laughter. Rose was clearly over her outrage, though she still gave him a shove as they got to their feet.
“Well done, my dear brother-in-law.” Vlad mused, smiling to himself.
“Children! Time to go inside!” Colette called, and all four of her children began to head towards the house. Louis and Jacqueline ran, while Rose and Judas walked, and somehow the gaits suited everyone perfectly.
“It is a good winter.” Vlad remarked, holding the door open for his mother-in-law.
Colette smiled. “It is indeed.”
“There won’t be another one like it.” Vlad remarked, a somewhat faraway look in his eye.
Despite her only having lived about forty-odd years, Colette seemed to know how he felt, and what he meant. Still, she placed a hand on his back, and offered him a small smile. “No, there won’t.”

“ i am sorry for what happened to you. ” murmurou, num pequeno suspiro, tentando estudar a face alheia. se perguntava, diariamente, onde havia errado e permitido que se afastassem assim. “ e marius também sente, embora seja um merda para demonstrar qualquer emoção. e para fazer qualquer coisa, na real. ”

📸 🎥 ATP Challenger Livestream (via website)
The second set turned out to be a little more dramatic than the first, with an anticlimactic ending to all the epic moments of the match. The set started with the net game becoming an ultimate test for JP/Jeevan, with a working volley saving one of their break points only for JP’s failed volley handing Copil/V.V. Cornea the break. Somehow, they held until 3-2, but JP/Jeevan had ideas through Jeevan’s working backhands, with a return ace to secure the deciding point and the same winner to close the rally to level the match 3-3.
Eventually, it took 6 consecutive holds to get into another classic tie-breaker. Initially, JP/Jeevan had the moment in control thanks to their working volleys, dominated the flow until Copil/V.V. Cornea started to figure it out. V.V. Cornea came up with a forehand winner to minimize the gap, and his swift forehand return resulted in one of the notable parts of their match-point saves after holding their serves, causing the tie-breaker to go into further distance. Somehow, another match point save occurred thanks to Copil’s forehand pass to Jeevan’s volley, but it was not enough because Copil’s failed forehand right at the latest match point resulted in JP/Jeevan’s converted match point, taking the second set 7-6(8) to secure their spot in the quarterfinals.

Bank Employee - Diape Seck - Sentenced - Fraud
Tumblr media
Former Bank Employee Diape Seck Sentenced to Three Years in Federal Prison for Fraudulently Opening Bank Accounts as Part of a Larger Bank Fraud Scheme Targeting Churches and Religious Organizations. Accepted Cash Bribes to Open the Accounts From Co-Conspirators Engaged in Check Fraud and Rental Car Fraud Schemes Greenbelt, MD (STL.News) U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang today sentenced Diape Seck, age 29, of Rockville, Maryland, to three years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for his role in a bank fraud scheme in which he and his co-conspirators obtained or attempted to obtain almost $2 million by fraud, including the theft of checks from the mail of churches and religious institutions.  Judge Chuang also ordered Seck to pay restitution in the amount of $1,708,446.49 and to forfeit $114,647.50.  A federal jury convicted Seck on February 24, 2023. The sentence was announced by Erek L. Barron, United States Attorney for the District of Maryland; Postal Inspector in Charge Damon E. Wood of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service - Washington Division; Special Agent in Charge James C. Harris of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Baltimore; Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey D. Pittano of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Office of Inspector General (FDIC-OIG); Chief Marcus Jones of the Montgomery County Police Department; Chief Terry Sult of the Cary, North Carolina, Police Department; and Sheriff Dusty Rhoades of the Williamson County, Tennessee, Sheriff's Office. According to the evidence presented at his eight-day trial, from at least January 2019 to January 2020, Seck, a customer service representative with Bank A, conspired with Mateus Vaduva, Marius Vaduva, Vlad Baceanu, Nicolae Gindac, Florin Vaduva, Marian Unguru, Daniel Velcu, Vali Unguru, and others to commit bank fraud.  Specifically, the evidence showed that Seck fraudulently opened bank accounts in fake identities in exchange for cash bribes.  Co-conspirators engaged in fraud that included fraud involving rental cars and the deposit of checks stolen from the incoming and outgoing mail of churches and other religious institutions into the fraudulently opened bank accounts.  The co-conspirators then withdrew the funds and spent the fraudulently obtained proceeds. As detailed in the trial evidence, Diape Seck facilitated the opening of hundreds of bank accounts at Bank A for his co-conspirators, who used purported foreign identities, often but not universally Romanian, to fraudulently open bank accounts with him at Bank A, as well as bank accounts at other victim financial institutions.  Seck opened accounts for co-conspirators without their presence in the bank, without verifying identity information, and opened accounts for co-conspirators who opened multiple accounts at a time under different identities.  To conceal his improper activities, Seck opened accounts for the co-conspirators at the same time, he conducted legitimate bank activities.  The co-conspirators paid Seck up to $500 in cash in exchange for each of the fraudulent bank accounts he opened. According to court documents and witness testimony, Seck violated numerous bank policies in opening approximately 412 checking accounts in a one-year period from approximately January 2, 2019, through January 3, 2020, relying predominantly on purported Romanian passports and driver's license information.  Checks payable to and written from churches and other religious institutions from around the country were deposited into many of the 412 checking accounts, which were not opened in the names of the churches. The co-conspirators fraudulently negotiated the stolen checks by depositing them into the victim's bank accounts, including the fraudulent accounts opened by Seck at Bank A, often by way of automated teller machine (ATM) transactions.  After depositing the stolen checks into the bank accounts, the conspirators made cash withdrawals from ATMs and purchases using debit cards associated with the bank accounts.  Co-conspirators also used fraudulently obtained debit cards to rent cars which they used and then failed to return, resulting in charges by the rental car companies, which had to be "written off" by Bank A. According to court documents, co-conspirators deposited at least approximately $780,064.04 in stolen checks into the accounts Seck personally opened on their behalf, and the bank had to write off at least approximately $921,590.50 from the co-conspirators' rental car fraud in the accounts Seck opened for them. Co-conspirators Vlad Baceanu, age 38; Marian Unguru, age 36; and Vali Unguru, age 20, all of Baltimore, Maryland, previously pled guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and wire fraud.  Mateus Vaduva, age 29, of Baltimore, was sentenced to five years in federal prison and ordered to pay restitution of $1,320,885.84; Nicolae Gindac, age 52, of Dania Beach, Florida, was sentenced to 54 months in federal prison and ordered to pay restitution of $1,096,660.11; Florin Vaduva, age 31, of Dania Beach, Florida was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison and ordered to pay restitution of $1,096,660.11; Marius Vaduva, age 28, of Baltimore was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison and ordered to pay restitution of $1,334,230.84; and Daniel Velcu, age 43, of Baltimore was sentenced to 34 months in federal prison and ordered to pay restitution of $1,313,499.79 after they previously pled guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and wire fraud. United States Attorney Erek L. Barron commended the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, HSI, the FDIC Office of Inspector General, the Montgomery County Police Department, the Cary (North Carolina) Police Department, and the Williamson County (Tennessee) Sheriff's Office for their work in the investigation.  Mr. Barron thanked Assistant U.S. Attorneys Elizabeth Wright and Darren Gardner, who prosecuted the case.
